Having an issue with the Go launcher Power Control Widget (that thing that lets you set wifi on/off, and 3 brightness levels).
It works perfect, until I turn my tablet all the way off. When I turn back on the tablet, it becomes a grey bar that says, "problem loading widget".
I can delete that from the home screen then put a new one on there and it will work until I do a complete power off.
If I go just into sleep mode it will work just fine.
My nook is rooted, but even before root when I put go launcher on there it was doing the same thing.
Any work around, or some other app/widget I can download that has wifi/brightness level adjustments?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20085658&postcount=15
Go launcher has some manner of permissions issue that causes widgets to fail to properly reload on boot (not wake from sleep). This procedure takes care of the problem. The only recommendation I have is to use the root management feature in ES File Explorer, rather than Root Explorer, since ES is a free app.
Didn't seem to work, but thanks for finding that link. I tried searching, but couldnt come up with anything.
Not a big deal, but was worth asking.

I'm currently using launcher pro plus and while I'm aware that there is no shortcut support (unless you are using froyo) I had read that it was possible to switch the dock functions by first setting their gesture, then opening a different launcher and editing a file with root explorer then rebooting.
Every time I do this, launcher pro still edits the file (located in /data/data/come.fede.launcher/shared_prefs). If anyone knows of a different way to do this, or if I am just missing something I'd like to know.
Also, I have been working on an application for a while that was a hybrid of google gesture search and the gestures in dolphin browser, I finally got the app to be able to map not only application openings but functions like volume up and down and back and menu.
A) is there a way to give this app a perma-soft key similar to the one in dolphin
B) is there a way to make the notification bar disappear when this app is running, so that in all other apps the notification bar is also gone.
C) I'd actually prefer to a softkey a long home press to open it up...maybe...or the option to pick. I cant for the life of me make the nook respond to a long n click...and I dont really wanna remap the volume buttons.
I am considering just mapping a button from soft keys to the app as of now, and then try to make it not so bandaided...but hell doing anything on the autonook is just kinda lame.
There was a suggestion a while back to install launcher pro on an android phone and set it up accordingly. Afterward, back your launcher pro settings. Launcher pro will back up to sd card and you can transfer to the nook

I actually did everything suggested in that thread, and the only thing that came close to working was pulling it from my phone, but even that resets after a reboot...my ONLY thought is that it may have something to do with the kernel I'm running...maybe...maybe?
I recently rooted my TB and installed the latest CM7 ROM. The only thing that bugs me about the ROM is that when I unlock it after being idle for a few minutes, it always returns to the last app or email or whatever was open before it locked. I would like it to always return to the Home Screen, or Desktop each time it is unlocked. So far, I have not been able to find any setting to make this happen. I was hoping someone might be able to give me a hand with it.
Thanks,
Mark
you could always just download "No Lock" from the market & just use the power on/off button to turn the screen on/off. then you wouldn't have to bother with the lock screen at all. i use that no matter if i'm on sense or aosp. always hated the lockscreen b.s.
Go into cm settings, lockscreen, style options, custom starter app. Set that to be the launcher of your default. Adw is the current defaulted launcher unless you have installed another 3rd party.

You can disable the lockscreen in the cm tablet tweaks settings. No need for 3rd party app.
Thanks for the replies guys. I was hoping to keep the unlock screen appearance the same, without adding more options. I like things to look clean and minimal. However, if it's not possible, then I'll just have to deal with it the way it is.
Thanks,
Mark
Did you ever find a solution?
I too am used to returning to the home screen when I turn my phone on, not the last app I used. Seems like it would be a simple setting...
Steve
every time I try to install an app it pulls up the apk handler asking me how I want to install it...no problem right? Well, now it's repetitively opening it probably 300x/minutes and closing it...won't allow me to select to install it at all...
This wouldn't be that big of a problem except that I have Thumb Keyboard installed and I can't type until I reinstall thumb keyboard b/c of the rebooting/power glitch of thumb keyboard not sticking.
I can't hit the home button because when I try to it asks which home to default to (I JUST installed ADWEx launcher and then my tablet auto-rebooted on its own after I tried to change the wallpaper)...It gets stuck in the same loop cycle that the installation process gets stuck in...except this time it's with the default home launcher.
Any ideas?
Try the failed boot restore. Interrupt the boot, ten times, and it will do a complete system restore.

Any other options outside of this?
I was able to send zeam launcher via downloading from market.android.com
That enabled me to get to the AppMenu where I could change my keyboard to the stock keyboard...
I now have a keyboard back up and working.
What I don't have? I cannot install any apps or set a default home. Do you think this has something to do with the Nook Home replacement app that I had downloaded?
Update:
I guess to add a description...
So I can't open any menus that don't already have default applications...when I try to, they keep popping up over and over and over again.
I can never select anything when the popups are going on. I can double-tap nook home and it takes me back to the stock home. I installed
Nook Color Apps Manager via market.android.com (it has push install so I didn't have to worry about choosing a package installer)
I uninstalled ADW Ex, the Nook Home Launcher Replacement for rebinding the Nook key, Go Launcher Ex, and Zeam.
Next Update:
After uninstalling Dolphin and Firefox nightlies, it took me back to default Browser. I was then able to reboot the NT. My problem of not being able to select on a screen that didn't have a default app already disappeared.
However, after redownloading the HomeCatcher.apk, I was unable to rebind the double tap to my launcher of choice.
A reboot and a fresh download of HomeCatcher.apk has it working again.
Everything is pretty much back up and running at this point.
Final Update
Everything is back up and working. I hope this thread is helpful to someone at some point if they struggle with this same problem.
I'm posting updates as I go in case anyone encounters this same problem...maybe what I am doing will help you fix the issue without having to do an entire factory reset:S
I've been using nova launcher for months and finally uninstalled the stock S launcher. Today, I went to put my phone into ultra power saving mode and now I cannot exit it. If I get a notification, I can switch to that app and get into system settings, but I cannot exit ultra power saving mode. Without a notification, I can't even turn the screen off. The home button does nothing (no launcher) and the UPSM toggle is missing from the notification window.
So, my question is- does anyone have the stock APK for the Samsung launcher -OR- know an ADB command or some other way to get out of UPSM?
You didn't say whether you looked at the full quick settings palette or just the selected tiles subset? You should find the power saving tile on the full palette. Also does the phone exit UPSM when you fully charge the phone battery?
If that doesn't work, then just download the firmware for your phone and you can extract the stock launcher with winrar.

There are no settings tiles. After I get a notification, I can pull down the notification screen (not before) and hit the gear to get the settings page. In there, there's only wifi, bluetooth, airplane mode, mobile networks, location, sound, and brightness. There's no way to get rid of UPSM.
Fully charging it didn't work. Fully discharging it didn't work. Wiping cache and dalvik didn't work.
Can you provide a link to the file in question? I'm not entirely clear on your terminology. I thought the firmware was just for the radio and such while the rom had the program files?

Have you rebooted? Usually does it for me.
I tried taking the battery out, restoring my SYSTEM backup from a few months ago, upgrading to a newer version of the stock rom, and nothing works.
Everything I've tried ends up with the phone going back into UPSM with no way to leave it.

If you are using TWRP there is a file manager under advanced. Use that to navigate to the /system/app directory and rename "Emergency" apk to have .back appended to the end after the .apk. This will "hide" it from the system and should disable it. Btw the name of the apk has Emergency in it i don't recall the exact name of it though.

No we can't. And the reason that we can't is that you didn't provide any details about your phone. The firmware is different for every model of S5 and carrier. We don't know if you have a 900T, 900F, 900A or some other S5 version. We can't see your phone and can do little unless you provide extensive details.
Simply go to a firmware site like sammobile, click on firmware and enter the model number of your phone. Or do a search of this forum. Then use the Odin program to write that firmware (factory software) to your phone.
.
I'm having the same issue on a Verizon S5. Under /system in twrp I don't see anything. Tried chmod but didn't help. Any suggestions?
Apps Drawer
Same thing happened to me. Mine was stuck in between normal and Ultra. I was able to go to my apps drawer, clicked on the gear/settings, found Power then disabled Ultra Power Saving mode there.
I had same issue and I SOLVED it.
No disable option in the notification drawer. Gear 'setting' option (in the notification drawer) only display few setting options (no disable ultra saving mode).
I solve the issue by holding down the HOME button to trigger Google NOW app. In the search bar of Google NOW app, I clicked the microphone button and said "OPEN SETTINGS". This will open the full version of setting window. If you scroll down, you will see the 'POWER SAVING MODE', click it and you will see the disable "ULTRA POWER SAVING MODE" option.
It's a unusual way but it worked.
I also faced the same issue while running Action Launcher 3. Google Now wasn't working for me, so the way I solved it is:
- press and hold the menu button (capacitive button on the left) and select "Manage Apps"
- from the three dots on the top right corner select "Reset app preferences"
- reboot
- pressing the home button showed up "TouchWiz Home", which then allowed me to select "Disable Ultra Power Savings mode"
-done
HTH
I have they same problem with S5 LTE+ on Android 4.4.4. (I hate this ****ing bad Samsung Software!!!!) The above two posts unfortunatly don't work for me because Google Now is not working and Home Button does nothing.
I will try to launch settings due adb if I find a PC to do this (Unfortunatly I'm on holiday at the moment)
Were you able to figure this out? Facing the same issue on my friends phone. Can't believe Samsung would takeover the phone like this.

Best I remember, it had something to do with disabling the stock launcher and I ended up reflashing.
thug_life_inc brought me to my personal solution. I had the problem with the Google Now Launcher. And there is the possibility to go to the app info by placing an app on the home screen, but not dropping it there, but above it (you know the area where you can access app info / delete the app).
That brought me to the settings page for the google app where i could delete the standard launching options.
I had very low battery (maybe 3 or 2%) and then i activated the ultra power saving mode. After a while, the phone battery died, so I recharged it. The problem now is that I got stucked in UPSM. Everything is black and white, I have no acces at any of my apps and the settings is incomplete, I mean I don`t find the "disable UPSM" function. I also cannot factory reset the phone, same reason, I only have acces to wi-fi, bluetooth, volume, brightness and location.
Thank you!!!!

Thank you! It worked for me!
I tried multiple methods include using microphone to trigger Google Now but still nothing in Settings. The idea is trigger the Launcher Picker. here are some notes
Wish I new this sooner, wasted a whole day figuring it out. This fix is way easier
The easy fix - just open the app drawer, drag the google app to app info and drop, clear defaults , when prompted choose you service providers origional default launcher

That is not possible .. in UPSM there is no app drawer or any apps settings.
Hello,
yesterday I posted some bugs in another thread in reply to a posting aiming the Zopo Speed 7 (without plus). But this is the Zopo Speed 7 Plus forum, so I guess it's a good idea to start a new thread.
After recognizing some bugs with the ROM installed on the phone and doing the OTA-Update I decided to set up the phone completely new with the ROM 20150820-222820, that can be found on zobomobile.
After restarting the phone, some bugs seemed to be fixed:
- Small window view (round clock) in combination with the smart cover seemed to work now
- Ringtones are loud enough (for me, maybe not for other users)
- Widgets still operate after restart
Then I did some settings and after a while the Small window view starts again to misoperate. Sudden fade outs, dead screen, not wake up with Power-Button... After some hours I discovered, that the setting, to set the screen brightness depending on amient light is causing the error. If you switch this option on, closing the smart cover seemed to teel the phone: it's totally dark, switch off screen. Ok, I do not really need this option.
After a couple of reboots the widgets started to keep empty again. Grr... Changing the Launcher did not help.
But a little good news: I started Google Maps Navigation and the screen stayed on several hours. No sudden switch off anymore.
And the GPS fix is now in less than 5 seconds.
Maybe someone can find out, how to fix this annoying bug with the widgets.
Other bugs:
- if you change the default launcher with other one, at reboot the phone not save the settings of new launcher and return at default
- the notification of some apps not worked (Facebook, Whatsapp, Tapatalk, ecc.) unless you starts to the apps the first time
I will update as soon as there are others

For widget bug I found a solution but you must have a root. App which widgets you use you must transfer in the system.
With FX File Explorer (you must first install the root addon) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.fx easily transfer it any app in the system.
For example I use HD Widget https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cloudtv.hdwidgets&hl , find HD widgets directory, transfer from data -> app directory in the system -> app directory and reboot. After the boot all widgets from HD Widgets app working normally and smoothly. So I did the same for a few programs and all operating normally :good:
I suppose I do the same with Nova Launcher
From:
To:
Some have a problem with a low sound in the speaker when ringing.
The solution is very simple.
With MTK Engineering Mode https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.themonsterit.EngineerStarter&hl go to MTK Settings -> Software Testing -> Audio -> LoudSpeaker Mode and under level set to Level 6, SET SET. That's it. Now the ringer is even too loud.
In fact the sound through the speakers is enhanced, music, youtube, etc.

I fixed this by rooting and deinstalling the stock launcher with titanium backup. I am using nova launcher instead. Works smoothly.

Works :good:
But the system/app folder has to be mounted as read-write first. Default is read only.
Now I can usw my weather and calendar Widgets normally. Thanks for this solution
Moving to system/app fixes notification problem
Hi, your widget-solution even fixes the problem with apps using an service in the background to receive notifications. :good:
I know bug with the Zopo Speed 7 plus (I guess the Speed 7 also) is that some Apps do not receive notification events in the background.
On my phone neither Whatsapp nor Threema receive ANY notifications after reboot. You have to open the App and after several seconds the
app start to receive sent messages from others. Even if they where sent hours ago. That is really annoying .
After closing the App it receives messages for a little time and then it seems, the App AND its background service is killed by Android. The
killing-algorithm seems to be set to VERY VERY agressive. That's absolutely unnecessary with 3 GB of ram. On my old HTC One X plus I had
1 GB and al works like a charm.
First I got the autostart control feature of the Zopo Speed 7 Plus in mind, but no settings (Allow all, Allow Whatsapp/Threema, Deny all etc.)
did work.
Then I thought of your solution, to fix the Widget problem by moving the Apps to system/app. And voila - it works. Whatsapp and Threema
are starting after reboot and stay online all the time. Even after several hours.
But: Are Apps moved to system/app still getting updates via the Play Store?!? I could not find out.
Thanks but...
Thanks for your hint, this could be a solution for this annoying bug. But, i got some questions to do so:
- do i need root? F. e., the system/app is read only, so i think i have to root and change the settings?
- direct moving doesn't work because play store apps are not stored as apk-files, so i have to get an apk-file to move from /download to system/app?
Thanks for your reply, Thomas
