Visible "Pixel Grid" - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

If I hold my Prime under a bright light, I can see evenly spaced out lines of dots. They're evenly spaced out in both the horizontal and vertical directions. I see them on dark/black backgrounds, and I even see them when the screen is off. As I said, it's only visible under a bright light and on black backgrounds. Does anyone know what this is, and do others see it as well? Another way to describe it is that it likes like there are tiny glitter speckles evenly spaced apart from each other.

This is the actual touch-"part" of the screen. Nothing to worry about.

its the capacitive touch grid

duno if this is what u can see but it maybe the grid inside the touch screen. i have seen something that sounds similar before on my nexus one and concluded that this is what it must be.

Aaaah. Thanks guys! I've been inspecting it carefully since so many people have random complaints, and this is something I've never noticed on another device before. I think you're right that it's the touch screen. Thanks! So far, loving the Prime.

I had this on my HD2, but not on my Sensation. Not sure why some devices show it and some don't.

Found three bright lights on screen today!

I haven't realized this before until I bring up a new document from polaris app. I then noticed three bright pixels on my screen far brighter than rest of the screen.
I called Asus and they said if they can't fix the issue then I can choose to receive a refurbish or new prime.
Guys check your screen.

Are you telling me to check something that I have to look at every time I use it? Really?
I had this on my second one. But mine was more of a bright spot rather than a pixel. It varied in intensity whether my prime was plugged in or not. If it was plugged in it was way brighter.

Sh*t happens. RMA it. Least they are offering you a new prime! Thats good.
I'm pretty sure what your seeing are dead pixels. I have 2 currently on mine. For me it doesn't reveal itself under dark colors. But light colors seems to bring it out. When I rebooted and when the ASUS screen popped up I examined the screen real hard and noticed that those same pixels were actually dead. Which explains why I couldn't see it under black background. The Asus loading screen is black but it has backlight lit up to were I can see those dead spots. I don't know just my own findings. Could be completely different.
Edit: Mine was also a bright spot. Made more defined when under lighter backgrounds. Like I said. When under the boot screen look at it again maybe have to adjust it in an angle and you will see that it appears to be a dead pixel where that same bright light is.

That is better description. The spots are under half inch each.

I'm saying to check if your screen has defects, that is all.

I have one of these also. It's only visible on white backgrounds and even then it's not a big deal. It's bottom left when my Prime is in the correct landscape orientation.

[Q] Does SuperAMOLED emit a very faint glow (uniform) when in complete dark?

It is a common belief that SAMOLED has no backlight, which is true. However, the screen IS powered and hence there is SOME energy that generates a teeny tiny amount of light.
This can be checked by using the *#0*# and doing the Vibration test where the screen goes totally black.
I'm talking about a VERY VERY faint and very uniform glow from the screen.
Try waving it in front of your face if you don't see it.
Report back.
Hi,
Yes. Even I have noticed this when I am using the cell in night and in a completely dark room. I am not sure about the SGS 1'S screen, but in the S2 I have seen a very faint glow which is present in the backs even when there are other elements colors present on the screen. It's my opinion that there is some amount of backlight that is being used for the black.

Both the i9000 and i9100 have a faint glow when nothing is being shown on the screen
I havent seen any glow just how "teeny tiny" are we talking about here?? If you keep reasonable distance from the screen then it is perfectly black. Watching a video with black bars in a completely dark room the blacks are literally indistinguishable from the bezel.
so far i had 3 galaxy sII devices the last one was the white color
all of them had the same thing ur talking about in complete darkness
Yes both the i9000 and the i9100 I own have this, you can also spot it while just turning on the phone before the boot screen, but I only notice while in a dark room or at night.
The faint glow is there because the pixels do not totally power down when displaying black. The screen is designed this way to give better response rate. No one wants a screen that ghosts isn't it

You only see it on a fully black screen. As soon as there is anything on the screen your eyes compensate for the light and you lose sight of the black. Try it as the OP suggested and you'll see it.

Okay so we are talking fully black screen.
So while watching videos, playing games or having a black wallpaper(with obvious widgets or icons on top) the eyes would perceive it as pure black as I have experienced.
So for all practical purposes the contrast is infinite. OP you shouldnt worry about some glow on a fully black screen. I can tell you for sure that even in totally dark room lets say you are in the ICS app drawer you will not be able to see any glow between the icons, it would seem like the icons are flying in the air. The magic of SAMOLED.
Yes, there is a faint glow. But its only noticeable when you're in a completely dark room and your screen is showing only black.
However that does not in any way mean that SAMOLED+ doesn't have perfect blacks.
The glow is there only because the pixels aren't actually powered off (at least that's what I think)
The contrast ratio is still infinity.
The OP made this thread to prove a point, just checked and YES there is a faint glow in complete darkness.

anyone else have this

When im sitting in a darkish room with no
lights on in the room if i pull down the status bar or looking at dark pictures i can notice 2 black lines? Anyone else have this?you have to look kinda close and move the phone round abit tho to see it
Anyone?
What you mean black lines down the sides? Cos I see nothing else and they normal.
I see about 3 small spots which are darker than others but they are only small, i do however know people who own s3's which suffer from a problem similar to the one you describe, but they both decided it want worth a return (yes two of my friends with the same problem what are the chances?)
I guess you mean the irregularities in the screen on black background in low-lit conditions.
Depending on how prominent they are, it's considered normal for AMOLOED screens and similar effects can be seen on all AMOLED-devices.
My best guess is that some LED ranges get a tad too little power on minimum brightness when displaying very dark content so that they really stay dark while the others give a very faint flow.
(Such flaws and differences in the screen are one of the reasons why AMOLED can't go really dark like LCD's can)
I was just about to post this aswell. When I'm using the phone and there's a black background, I see a couple of extra dark dashes on the screen
Is there a fault with the screen?

[Q] Dark tiny lines on white background

Just bought my S3 and i can see some dark/grey tiny lines (almost like dirt) on white/grey backgrounds. Is this normal? You dont even have to look that hard to spot it.
In chrome i can see it very good. And in the grey image before play store opens fully.
Anyone who can please tell me what this is?

Any pics? I doubt if a screenshot will show these lines.
Hmm... Dont have any pics no. They will not show up on screenshot.
You can compare the marks with some kind of bad printer ink marks on a white paper (tiny tiny and very faint)...
I think i have the same i ssue, but is only visible on greys tones. Not in whites.

Yeah it's worst in grey tones... and in whites when in low background light. When backlight is in full the lines almost disapears in white tones.
Could this be a pentile issue?
Well if I am thinking about same thing they look likr "uneven" color (darker and lighter lines) had them on S1 but never noticed em om S3 yet

There are present on all SuperAmoled screens.more or less. It's not a faulty unit.

I don't have it. Not one bit. And I'm a nitpicker about screens. I think pentile looks bad in the first place, so imperfections are not tolerable.

Bluish hue around edges of screen

Anyone else have a bluish hue around the edges of their 7" kindle HDX screen? It's more visible on white or light colors. It's like maybe 2 to 3 mms and then it fades to the correct color. I think I remember my HTC flyer tab having something similar but I only had that for a day before I returned it. It's real visible when reading a all white document. Just want to make sure it's normal or I have a bad screen or something before exchange period is over.

It's normal, is the way Quantum Dot display technology works. Basically it uses blue LEDs to produce superior colour reproduction.
There's a whole thread about it on here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2493235&highlight=blue
