[Q] E:Can't read misc Viewpad 7 - Viewsonic ViewPad 7 & Variants

Hi guys. I just recently rooted my Viewpad 7, flashed EUViewpad ROM, and updated A2SD to 2.7.5.3 Beta 4. My internal storage became a lot bigger. I installed my APKs and everything was fine. Until...
I woke up this morning using an APP called Sleep Android which was fantastic because it recorded my snores I got up and decided to reboot my Viewpad before I start to cook breakfast.
While cooking, I noticed that my beloved Viewpad is just going on a loop for a long time during boot animation. I pushed the reset button and the same thing happened.
I went to recovery mode and then saw the error:
E:Can't read misc (no space left on device)
Do you guys have any idea how to fix this? I can re-flashed my Viewpad using SUTL3 but that would mean I would do everything all over again. I just started to use Titanium Back Up and I haven't figured out yet how to backup all my settings with just one click (is there such a button).
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would even pray to Mama Mary for you.
PP

I think I know what has caused this. I think Titanium Backup messed everything up because after I installed it, I was unable to install any other APKs afterwards. It is possible that it may have conflicted with my A2SDGUI because A2SD reported a -125mb (that's negative 125MB) of internal storage but Titanium reports 151MB Free.
I have re-flashed Viewpad the second time and that's when I confirmed that Titanium was behind it. Hope this helps.

[Q] Gingerbread issues from woot lot.

Ok, I give (well sort of) stuck at 3 birds screen for gingerbread roms.
Need one of the better brains on this one. I'm not sure if solvable without one of the big guys having one of these troublesome woot tablets.
Story up till now.
I have a G tablet, I have had one since November 2010. (black friday sears).
On my tablet I have never had any issues installing any rom/kernel and it at least booting (ones designed for gtablet)
I impressed work with them so much that during the Woot sale a few weeks back, the university bought 11 of these tablet for other techs.
So I stepped up and decided to flash them all (since tap n tap doesn't support several things such as WPA2 enterprise).
Now on the first 2 tablets I got ahold of they would not load any gingerbread rom on this forum, not vegan experementals, not either one of the asops, nor cm7 .... etc..
But they will run TNT lite and vegan 1 5b11.....
One of the units came to me with fc issues out of the box... that one loaded and ran gingerbread just fine..... (vegan experementals + pershot kernal + gapps)
The one my step father purchased from woot runs gingerbread asop + pershot + gapps fine as well
Got to work today tried a few things on another one of these tablets and it gets stuck at the veiwsonic 3 birds screen.
So these are all the methods broken down by tablet.
Tablet 1 -
Boot to stock
Mount tablet as usb
extract CW internal to device
mount usb
Reboot recovery
Reboot CW recovery
Copy over GB Asop
Copy over gapps
Flash said above
stuck at "viewsonic" screen
Ok...
Partition memory 2048/0
mount
Copy over gb asop, gb experementals, gapps
Try all of them...
Viewsonic screen..
ok
partition
mount
Copy over vegan 5.1 5.11 and pershot kernal
flash
Bingo we have vegan tab....
Hmmm..
2nd tablet
Ok lets try this again
Boot to stock
Mount tablet as usb
extract CW internal to device
mount usb
Reboot recovery
Reboot CW recovery
Copy over GB experementals
flash
stuck at viewsonc screen
partition 2048/0
mount
copy over experementals
flash
stuck at viewsonic
copy over vegan 5.1 / 5.11
flash (no kernal this time)
bingo we have froyo .... still no gb
Tablet 3- Troubled begginings
Set time zone - Force crash here....
Copy over micro sd and extract to micro sd card
Flash CW
lets try again
Copy over asop + gapps + pershot
Bam reboot and were in---- ran perfectly.
So I go... AHHA.. Must be micro SD is the key...
Tablet 4 ---
Bring over same micro sd card with me.
Use it to install CW
Install asop +gapps+pershot
froze at "Viewsonic"
WTF....
hmmmmm
Repartiton 2048/0
stuck
repartition 4096/0
stuck
repartition 4096/32
stuck
etc...
Repartitioned 2048/0
Installed vegan 5.1 / 5.11
bingo we have a live tab....
So I really don't know what is causing this. any thoughts on any of it would be greatly appreciated.
Only thought is hardware revision.. *shrug*

On tablet 4 I did.
I got cm7 on my woot gtab finally.
I repartitioned to 4096/256.
NVFlash
booted in to stock > plugged in to pc > usb transferred cm .8
installed cm .8
booted back to stock > usb transferred rom + gapps
boot recovery > formated boot, system, cache, data and wipe davlik cache
mount system & data
install rom then gapps
mount system ( it unmounts after rom install, cache was still mounted)
“wipe data/factory reset”
reboot
on mine- it took 30-60 secs to go from viewsonic screen to the cm boot animation and 1-2 mins it loaded up

Hmmm.... May have something on this line. Have to check it out.
Gentlemen -- and others reading this thread:
Please don't get people started re-partitioning the way you have just posted!!!???!!!
I can't pull the reason off the top of my head -- but the 2048 and 0 has been the
standard since last November. I do remember that it will foul things up.
If you want to experiment with it, fine. But if you keep posting and pushing it you
may start another round of problems for folks that don't need problems.
IMHO.

EDIT, HERE'S THE ANSWER: The 2048 figure has been set for a long time because other values
(particularly 4096) caused issues with the Market. Wouldn't allow downloads.
The second value is a cache and the the understanding is that Android doesn't use it, so
it's just a waste of space.
Android is not well-documented, but that is the wisdom behind 2048/0.

I would agree with butchconner. I am not a developer, but I am a UNIX systems administrator.
In the "old days" when RAM was hideously expensive ($7,000 for 16MB of RAM), we used a rule of thumb that swap should be 1-2.5 times the physical RAM. Disk was cheaper than RAM, hence virtual memory.
Now, memory generally exceeds requirements. I can understand why one would want not to have your swap go to flash nvram, since nvram is slow and has limited write cycles. But, letting the system swap to nvram _and_ to less swap than you have memory for just seems counter productive.
I partitioned mine to 2048/0 and it runs great.
My Archos 70 has only 256MB RAM, and I could see a benefit from 256mb - 512mb of configured swap space, as it appears memory constrained in 256MB RAM.
Hope this helps.

fine and good and all, but red hering all the same. still can't get gingerbread to work on a large majoity of the woot tablet i have come across.
That's the best I can offer. Sorry I can't help you.
Please remember that Gingerbread is not out for the
G-Tablet and what you are using is experimental.
It may not be perfect!
Good Luck.

Yea I don't think this has to do with experimental some of the bootloaders or something are fowled up on some tabs why does it work on some and not others?
My coworker and I both bought the tabs at the same time and his flash ginger no problem and mine sticks at the birds.
My Woot tablet works great, no problem with Gingerbread. I DID let it do the OTA update before I started hacking - not sure if that made a difference.

Wish that it did. I tried this on both tablet 4 and tablet 5 (last night) with no effect.
I rolled tablet 3 to stock 3588 from roebeet's recovery mod
Only thing I haven't tried is skipping CW all together and do it all from update.zip s .
May give that a shot today.
It's alive!

I skipped the repartition (left it at default), but I was actually able to boot into a Gingerbread ROM! I followed your instructions to the T.
An additional note for the NVFlash, I followed roebeet's instructions to do a restore via NVFlash, although, I did not update to 3588 (it said it was already up-to-date?): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
Thanks!
EDIT: the Tap UI version that is installed from the NVFlash I performed is 2638. I have completed the steps above again with a different ROM (CM7) and it worked like a champ again.
Do NOT partition to anything other than 2048 and 0. You WILL have market problems otherwise. If you load a Gingerbread rom and it stops at the birds you must nvflash to stock and then you will okay. I have walked about 20 people through this in the last 2 weeks and it works everytime. Something is different in the partitioning on these newer tabs and Gingerbread dont like it. It's not the bootloader and not clockwork
Yeah, I left it at 2048/0; you actually shouldn't have to repartition it with the default settings anyway. I haven't had a problem and haven't needed to repartition it when going between Gingerbread ROMs.

Any chance you could walk me through it? I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong otherwise.
You can join irc but the first thing that will be asked is do you have the drivers installed and can you see the tab from a pc.

[Q] Trouble installing Urukdroid on A43

Hey fellow XDA-perusers,
I'm trying to install Urukdroid 1.0 on my Archos 43, and am having some difficulties. When I try and start (by selecting "Developer Edition" from boot menu) I get "Failed to mount rootfs /dev/mmcblk1p2 (255)"
I followed the instructions laid out at https://code.google.com/p/urukdroid/wiki/Installation and the installation as far as I can tell goes smoothly. I'm installing to the internal storage (I don't own an SD card) and am doing so by resizing my current partition. What am I doing wrong that's causing this to not work?
If you need any more info, just let me know. Thanks so much!

I've the same poblem
You had the Overclock kernel,right?
You have to reset your archos and do a clean install
this helped me
I don't have an overclock kernel yet, but I was planning on using one upon getting Urukdroid set up successfully. If nothing else shows up on this thread, I'm likely going to take your advice and back everything up, then do a factory reset followed by a clean install by overwriting the partition.
Thanks for the reply!

I'm having trouble installing urukdroid too, on an A70 8GB. Using v. 1.0 easy install advanced to internal storage, using defaults of 512 and 1GB for data. Everything goes fine until I get to the install framework part and I copy UrukDroid-install.tgz to the Archos it keeps saying to copy proper file , etc. I've re-downloaded it and tried again but no luck....
It currently has the sde and rooted version 2.1.08 (chulri's method) installed if this makes a difference. My main reason for rooting is to be able to increase app space which I can't do without Uruk, so if anyone has an idea where I'm going wrong please help!
Any ideas?
Edit:
Had to format device and reload sde then stock firmware then urukdroid installed fine. It didn't like the rooted 2.1.08 I had on there and wouldn't install. Working great now with plenty of app space!!!!
For those who read this sometime in the distant future, I am confirming the findings of others, as doing an installation by formatting instead of repartitioning worked. UrukDroid is now functioning well. Thanks to all who helped!
I am having this problem now on my A70IT 8GB.
EDIT: I've done many resets and its stil the same.

[Q] For the love of God, WHAT HAVE I DONE??!!

So I've been happily running Calkulin/Clemsyn v.5 forever and have even talked some mates through their own installations.
While doing just that over the phone, I booted into CW to better walk this guy through the steps. I took care not to "select" any of the recovery commands, I thought, and only ran "reboot system now."
After a lengthier-than-usual boot animation, my tab opened to "force close" for every app. Info shows I still have Calk/Clem and all apps still live in my app drawer.
What's my best (shortest?) way back?
You didnt do anything wrong. The force closing is a known issue. Here is what you should have done when you first got your gtab.
1 install cwm
2 partition 2048/0
3 flash rom
You missed #2.
Thanks for your response.
Actually, I had partitioned to those parameters when originally flashing the ROM (and had even RE-partitioned at a later date while troubleshooting).
For the (Google) record, I went to CWM and wiped Dalvik cache then fixed permissions. One or both of those measures got back most functionality (with a lot of application data and system preferences missing). These I restored from Titanium backup.
I'm thinking the Fix Permissions did the trick. I read somewhere if you got FCs to run that.
Fix permissions in CW fixed the force close issue for me and many other people.

Aborted install from CWM

I have been scouring these boards for hours and can't find my exact problem so I think I need to post this as a noob. I did Albert Wertz's method of rooting my Nook Tablet 16GB which he states will void the warranty. Afterwards I showed version 9.9.9 so I think it was rooted however I never saw superuser and such. I did something where the main menu bar no longer appears when pressing the n button too, annoying, I want it back too.
Anyway I booted into CWM from SD and then removed my boot SD and installed another SD with the img files on it. I have about 4 img files on it from throughout the day trying to update to CM7 and then tried a restore and just a CWM flash, every img file I select starts to perform it's update and somewhere around "extracting files" it says "installation aborted". At first I thought I had a bad memory card but both cards behave the same so I think they are good (creating 70MB partition on the CWM). I did a system restore on it and now it reports version 1.4.0 but I still get all the same errors, I'm stuck. I've spent about 9 hours of messing with this today and can’t think straight. I am going to bed and will try tomorrow, but if anyone could please tell me what I am missing I would very much appreciate it. Happy Easter ! Thanks, Mark O

In CWM, you need to install from .zip files. It sound like you're trying to install .img.
Thanks... I was installing .zip files, not .img. I was pretty useless last night. I used Alberts 4_5SD recovery this morn and got it rooted to 9.9.9 and I had superuser and titanium backup so all was good. I ran NWM from internal on the tablet and told it to install ROM from the SD card. I pointed to the file and told it to backup, then install the new ROM it said an error had occured when I tried this. I then booted from another SD card to go to CWM and after the white screen with the box, it went into backup and then restored the ROM, however it took me back to a unrooted version. It looked for the ROM I wanted to load but that was on the other SD card. Now I am back at square one, frustrated...
I think I might have found the problem but I am not sure. When I was doing the original CM7 update I wrote CWM to the E drive, (MyNook) so now the drive reports a total size of .99GB with 433MB free. So CWM is installed on this drive and I think that is the proplem. Is there a way to get CWM off the E drive? If I can just uninstall it, will that be sufficient enough to get the root back and then correctly install CM7? Thanks again in advance.
I guess this is turning out to be an ongoing update from me, lol... I am back to a rooted Nook Tablet with 9.9.9 So since I am a glutton for punishment I will try again tonight to do the CM7. I simply deleted the CWM file that I found in the internal memory and it seemed to not hurt anything.
This time I am planning to download Indirect’s latest "NOOK Tab Recovery Flasher.apk" directly to my Nook Tablet, (at the inlaws now and no wifi
If I understand correctly it will install CWM direct on my tablet, I am just wondering where it will end up installed? Then I downloaded the file for internal CM7 installation, the file is named "Nook-Tablet-CM7-Alpha-Final-TEAM-B-signed" I have it and nothing else on the sd card. So when I run CWM from the Nook, I point to the .zip file on the SD card. Sounds easy but after three screw ups, I am aprehensive.
If someone could please confirm that this procedure and the files I am using are compatible and should work with my 16GB Nook Tablet. Again thanks very much and I hope all have been enjoying this Easter holiday........

The steps that you have listed in this post are correct. If you do this exactly, everything should go according to plan.
Indirect's great app installs CWM to the recovery partition of your device, overwriting the B&N stock recovery. You can always go back to stock recovery if need be, though, so don't worry.
Thanks Solar.Plexus
The procedure worked as I hoped. I don't understand what went so wrong in my first attempt but the main thing is my wife doesn't look at me with THAT look anymore, since she thought I bricked her 12 hour old NT.....

Hisense Sero 7 pro Dopa 2.0 to.... any?

Sero pro 7 USA, Titanium pro, CWR Novice user I have rooted 2 devices.
I'm guessing my questions may have been answered on this forum somewhere but I don't have much luck finding specifics when searching
Thanks to help here I rooted my sero pro 7 USA. I ran the "do all" package of the DoPa6 it failed at the loading part.CWR loaded fine
Then I read I had to start at 2.0. It installed fine. Works great and LOVE the (irritating) snapshot button removal. GPS seems faster/stronger too.
After reading I realized I would prefer DoPa5. Tried it... aborted status 7. Tried a couple other ROMs . .Aborted.. Got tired of reloading went back to 2.0
I like it a lot and is much better than stock but I wish I could try some other things now that I am rooted. I read somewhere that the newer ROMS wont work with CWR they need TWRP to load. CWR is installed now (I'm guessing in a partition because I don't see it in the App drawer.)
Q:What is the problem?
Q:IF needed, How do you switch from CWR to TWRP and get rid of CWR?
Speaking of a partition, I have a little less than 2gb in the system memory and not a lot of visible things using it up. I'm guessing there is a partition somewhere that has titanium backup , CMR backup and other stuff in it. The backups for both never went to my SD card and actually I was afraid when wiping I toasted them but they were there.
Q:Is there a way to adjust the partition to suit my needs and backup Titanium and CWM to SD card by default?
Thanks.
