Helllo, i have an S2 from Virgin Mobile in the UK, i rooted it a while ago, but i have noticed that when a video has finished playing, the phone freezes and i have to press the middle button several times to bring it back to desktop. Even then, the video.apk is still frozen and i eventually get a message from the system asking to force close it.
The versions i have on the phone at the moment is:-
Androis version 2.3.4
Baseband Version I9100XXKI1
Kernal Version 2.6.35.7-I9100XXKI4-CL575468
Build XWKI4
So my question is:- which is the latest Rom for this phone, and which bits do i actually need?

Connect to KIES for latest updates .
You have KI4 so it is probably the latest .Virgin can tell you .
You can try factory reset back up data first .

Oh ok, i was under the impression that once you had updated via Odin, Lies would no longer recognise the version.
I was also under the impression that there was a 2.3.5 over on the developers forum which appeared to be newer than 2.3.4?
Was i incorrect?

Probably /but not 100% .

latest rom i presumed you asked for Virgin rom as per post title .
2.3.6 is the latest from stock roms thread follow instructions .
CPW csc covers Virgin network .
Stock Roms .and csc

Hi All
I rooted my handset but then decided there isnt much out there at the moment for me in terms of custom ROMS so i restored a stock rom. I am now seeing a message "This version of the device cannot be updated" in Kies. Has anyone any idea how to fix this? Im running the latest Kies
Thanks
Kies updates product /firmware codes that match whats on the server . Requires your phone provider to have uploaded newer firmware than you have .
If you put a Samsung rom on the phone = no matching product/firmware codes .
Your Kies upgrade path is now closed ..

How so? this is now the third time I've seen you post this. Surely this only applies if you have flashed a custom rom. not stock.I flashed mine to KE1 via odin, but updated to KE2 through Kies. So what am I missing? Are you talking about the 'missing DLL' error? I did have that on my desktop, but kies worked fine on my laptop.
What is the easiest way to get back on track with Kies? Would flashing an older official firmware work?

you need to follow the debrand guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
basically you need to set the CSC to XEU in order to update via KIES

Third time more like three hundred .
Kies updates branded firmware via product codes hardware id and firmware id .
Hundreds if not tens of thousand who have installed Samsung so called stock firmware through Odin have received the no upgrade message from Kies .
Thats why Spoof FW was invented otherwise no need for it .
Its also why Kies has never given me an upgrade path since flashing stock rom via Odin .
Now i know one or two on SGS have managed to upgrade after stock rom but most are reporting no upgrade ( well you anyway ) .
Personally if some one is going to do something that may affect their warranty or change the update path or whatever i would rather tell them than not .
Stock rom Ke2 and i will test yet again via Kies when KE3 is out .
SGS2 bought sold SGS 1 running stock firmware No repeat no upgrade path through Kies until flashed original O2 rom and thats like two weeks ago .

Only Updated via Kies
Hi,
Only had my phone a week and have not done anything custom with it, it has updated twice through Kies in 1 week per request from Kies itself, today I go into Kies and it also says :
"This Version of the Device cannot be Updated"
Current Firmware Version DA:KE2/PHONE:KDJ/CSC:KD1(XEU)
Why has Kies had no problem two times in the last week and is now saying this, has something gone wrong in the phone ?
Yesteray it just said the Latest Firmware was Installed ?

It cannot be updated to a firmware that does not yet exist .
You have latest firmware therefore it cannot be upgraded .

I get this message to now on KE2 (O2 firmware) before I upgraded the message used to always Current and Latest firmware. I def think its a Kies problem.
Cheers Guy's
Was just yesterday it said ;
Latest Firmware Version DA:KE2/PHONE:KDJ/CSC:KD1(XEU)
Current Firmware Version DA:KE2/PHONE:KDJ/CSC:KD1(XEU)
and today the Latest Firmware Version is replaced with that error message, so assumed that there must be another update out but now the phone will not update it ?

It's giving that message because the firmware (KE2) has been removed. Your phone has a version of FW higher than Kies knows about hence it tells you it cannot be updated, wouldn't make sense otherwise. Once Samsung release a new FW I expect it to return to normal.

Just downgraded to I9100XWKE1_I9100XXKDJ_I9100XEUKD1 using ODIN and Kies now says this is the "current version". Looks like this is the way back to kies updates if anyone wants this.
All sorted again, today KIES is reporting ;
PDA:KE7: PHONE:KE4: CSC:KD1 (XEU)
a big jump from ;
PDA:KE2: PHONE:KDJ: CSC:KD1 (XEU)
This version of device canot be updated
Current firmware version : PDA:KD9 / PHONE:KD9 / CSC:KD9 (XEO)
:/ I bought phone before 2 days wtf is that ?
I have the same no update possible - its stock untouched.
My details are: PDA:KE1 / PHONE:KD5 / CSC:KD3 (DRE)
May be its because they pulled all updates until the new one is out (hope so)?
Hello guys
PauloJ5 can you send me your KE1/KD5/kd3 firmware?? pls
That's a problem™ of Kies. Change the Product Code to a valid one (see your box for that) from all X in Registry Editor. It worked for me.
Regards.

now it shows : this version of firmware cannot be upgraded.
PS: my phone is untouchted(never flashed never rooted)

I've read the forums, but couldn't find an answer that I could understand, so I apologize in advance for my question.
I'm in the USA and purchased my SGS2 from overseas a few months ago. For now I would like to stay with a stock ROM, at least until there is a CM7 release.
My current info:
PDA: KF3
Phone : KE7
CSC: KD1 (XEU)
I plug the phone into Kies every once in a while, but I haven't gotten an update in quite some time. So, a couple question:
What region or company phone do I have? I'm guessing it is an unbranded UK phone.
Do I just keep waiting? I can read lots of confusing info about using Odin to load frankenstein roms.
I'm asking because the wifi on my phone does not seem to work well, and I've read that 2.3.4 roms have a fix.
Thanks in advance.

Correct XEU = UK

YES
I can read lots of confusing info about using Odin to load frankenstein roms.
Unofficial path your choice may void warranty .
I'm asking because the wifi on my phone does not seem to work well, and I've read that 2.3.4 roms have a fix.
No fix as no WiFi problem though 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 modems may well work better /
KH3 2.3.4 modem stronger WiFi signal for some .

Yes, UK version.
If you want to upgrade through Kies you wont have to wait long as it seems that new XEU version KI4 will be out soon.

Its now probable that no further 2.3.4 updates will be issued by providers .
They will get the 2.3.5 release soon and in time release the update to Kies .

Why can't I update firmware through Kies. Everytime I check it says "This is the latest firmware". It seems everyone else has had the option to update with kies for a while now, so why not me? Im on vodafone uk.
Current firmware:
Gingerbread 2.3.3
PDA:KG2
PHONE:KG1
CSC:KE2 (VOD)
Thanks

Garbage some have updated some phone providers have not updated and probably will skip 2.3.4 as 2.3.5 is rolling out .

You need to ask Vodafone or take phone to Vodafone service centre see if they have an update .Vodaphone update the firmware and push it to Kies server .

Mostly but not always it all depends upon the phone supplier .
Thats why most XDA members go down the unofficial route and many are running KI3/8 2.3.5 .

Thanks JJEgan for your help.
As I got a vodafone branded sgs2 (locked with vodafone) would flashing XWKI8 or XXKI3 from Intratech's rom page be ok?
I read somewhere you should only flash unlocked phones.
I currently have my phone rooted with unsecure BUKG2 stock kernel, other than that its untouched from purchase.
hi i am currently, according to Kies, using the latest version available to me on my Galaxy S2 (i9100) which is unlocked and i bought from the carphone warehouse.
The fimware I am using is 2.3.4 and my Kernel is 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI4-CL575468
PDA:KI4 / PHONE:KI1 / CSC: KH1 (CPW)
however i know that this isn't the latest official release for the UK. I have researched numerous threads and i have tried changing me CSC using #*272*IMEI# however i am locked to CPW. So i then did more research and have found that i need to debrand my galaxy s2 from CPW to XEU to get the latest generic unlocked UK firmware. Can someone please tell me how to do this without using #*272*IMEI# because that doesn't work?
Your phone is unlocked but you want to unlock it ???
CPW is about the best CSC for the UK as it covers more networks ..
You will not get an update via KIES by changing your CSC ..
You can update and debrand by flashing a stock rom from the stock rom thread but you will may lose the KIES update path from then on.
Stock Roms .and csc

yes but if i remain on CPW i will stay on android 2.3.4 where as if i switch to XEU i get the latest updates since it is the most generic UK firmware? and surely if i change my CSC then Kies will offer me an update to 2.3.6

CSC has nothing to do with updates .
KIES reads the firmware and hardware and vendor codes from the phone .
Two paths to updates official via KIES you wait for vendor release
Or XDA via ODIN using latest stock Samsung firmware
Third possible is to use CheckFus to download firmware or find a way to change the codes on the phone .
jje
okay well howcome if i have unlocked handset i am still on 2.3.4 when there are people in the UK with 2.3.5? (sorry i am a noob)

You have a set of codes on your phone that determine its vendor and ID etc
Kies reads those codes
O2UK xxxx O2UK 11xxxx etc etc .
Then looks for that firmware on the server if it matches it downloads if it does not match it cannot download . So unless the vendor has updated then you have no download . Its the phone vendor who updates .
CheckFus and SpoofFW are two roous that may bypass the Kies checkup .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318683&highlight=spooffw
But this is XDA Developers and we dont use KIES .
jje
okay how do i know who my phone vendor is? i think it would be easier for me to just install cyanogenmod 7.1 however i am having trouble because when i followed all the instructions, i successfully rooted my phone installed ROM manager. however when i installed clockwork recovery and rebooted my phone it loaded android recovery mode 3e and says signature verification required. i gave up after a few attempts and thought it was due to my kernel? does the kernel version affect cyanogenmod? i.e. do newer versions of CM require a newer kernel?
You have Carphone Warehouse CSC hence no updates as most carriers tend to provide the updates.
Root with CF-ROOT and use customs or just flash a different firmware newer version with uk CSC with ODIN.
Sent from the valley of the shadows....
how do i CF-Root? and cant i just change my CSC so i get the newer updates if cpw doesn't release any?
No for reasons jje already said.
CF-ROOT is in original development and has concise instructions its very simple
There are lot's if stickys too take some timeout and read up as most information there will help you regarding learning about device.
Sent from the valley of the shadows....
okay then can you answer to questions for me? does a newer kernel affect the cyanogen mod and can you tell me how to install CM7.1 using CF root seeing as it didn't work last time due to signature error?
bomskiboy said:

Do you mean can you put another kernel in CM a rom that already has a kernel
and can you tell me how to install CM7.1 using CF root seeing as it didn't work last time due to signature error
The instructions are on the first page .

First time flashing CyanogenMod 7 to the Samsung Galaxy S II, or coming from another ROM?
Root the device and install ClockworkMod Recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Perform a NANDroid backup of your current ROM.
Copy rom to internal SD card .
Format the system, data & cache partitions of your device via mounts and storage recover
Perform a factory reset.
Flash CyanogenMod.
Flash CM a second time .

first time and does whatever kernel you currently are on affect CM mod? or does CM install a new mod?
BTW 2.3.4 is the latest XEU firmware so changing to this won't make any difference to your firmware version number.

Many months ago I rooted my Galaxy, mostly for something to do, but I stupidly didn't take down any details on what baseband or kernel the phone was running initially. When the leaked versions of ICS came out I upgraded to them, hopping to the latest one as it came out.
Now that the official T-Mobile release is out I decided that it was time to change to it, to make my phone "legit" again, however this doesn't seem to be the case as in Kies I get the tell tale "Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies".
In the "About Phone" I have...
Baseband Version - I9100BVLPB
Kernel Version - 3.0.15-I9100BVLPB-CL310231 [email protected] #3
Through *#1234# I have...
PDA : I9100BVLPB
CSC : I9100TMULPC
Phone:I9100BVLPB
Is there any way for me to find out what firmware should be on my phone? I've got a sneaking suspicion that my original firmware etc may have been unbranded rather than T-Mobile. I don't remember having any "Web & walk" icon or any T-Mobile logos etc.
If I just install the stock unbranded ICS firmware via Odin does that automatically change the baseband & kernel at the same time?
Thanks for any info
Try CheckFUS.
Thanks, I gave that app a go but it wouldn't update the phone types for some reason, it would just hang while updating.
I've managed to sort it out though, turns out that I was given an unbranded phone. The stock unbranded ICS firmware allows connection with Kies. The one downfall is that it would keep crashing after updating, I had to do a format to get it to work properly.
