Best Keyboard? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What is the best keyboard for the Atrix?

SwiftKey is the best.

Nothing but love for "Smart Keyboard Pro"...

Swiftkey is great for people who use prediction. I use Thumb Keyboard for the customization and accuracy.
It really depends on how you use a keyboard. Try out any "lite" versions or free trials.

Its all preference but I use the stock ics keyboard from the market

Thumb Keyboard is the best in my opinion. Nice and accurate, as well as tons of customization.
At times when I just want to use a finger I use Swype.

For me its Touchpal Keyboard! Cause I swype & use predictive word at the same time! For this...No other app can beat Touchpal! Touchpal RocksS!!! \m/

+1 for touchpal when using a non-stock keyboard. Does a great job with swype.
Multitouch keyboard that comes stock is amazing. Does next-word prediction based on words you actually use (as opposed to SwiftKey) and is very fast an accurate. I think most people ditched it before even giving it a chance.
I would personally love to see someone rip the multitouch keyboard and put it on CM7/CM9

I'm a fan of both SwiftKey X and Thumb Keyboard. Ideally, I'd like a combination with Thumb Keyboard's layouts and themes but Swiftkey's prediction engine (which predicts the next word based on context--it's awesome).
WP7 Keyboard also gets a lot of love. I like it, but it's not as good as Thumb or SwiftKey.

Um. SwiftKey always presents me with words I use. Especially when texting a friend during Penguins hockey games. It's pretty accurate and predicting the player names.

This. SwiftKey X's prediction is fantastic--it's context-sensitive prediction is most-advertised features. Other keyboards that have been mentioned here (i.e. Thumb) unfortunately lack this feature.

swype beta with dragon dictation is awesome!!!

for me...by far the best keyboard is "better keyboard"...which got pulled from the marketplace but is available from amazon i think.
i tested out the wpm on just about every keyboard using the mytextspeed app. and for me....better keyboard came out on top. can do 40+ wpm without exerting any effort.

Any keyboard that has custom key height, because they never look good with the resolution of Atrix.

I'm currently using the go keyboard with t9. Yes real t9 almost like the dumb phones. makes texting a breeze for me. Swype sometimes irritates me and typinng on the normal keyboard is hard for me maybe because I used an iPhone before this atrix.

I use swype and thumb keyboard

I prefer SwiftKey and changing the keyboard height to the largest it can go.
It's prediction engine is the best, IMHO.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App

Swiftkey's prediction engin rocks, but I still like to switch between Smart Keyboard Pro & swiftkey

I use SwiftKey X and sometimes switch to Swype (specially while on the move)
Cheers

I wanted to followup and say that I also use the "Hacker's Keyboard" while using apps that require all keyboard characters (Connectbot, terminal emulators, etc).

Greetings,
I am suing Swiftkey and i am very happy.
Thanks
Vatis
I use Swiftkey
Still have Swype installed but it's annoying for me cause it keeps splitting words in the middle. Think this is a problem caused by the lack of MT which makes it think your finger is jumping when you slide too fast or if your thumb is too fat
I use the Default Japanese IME keyboard. I can type incredibly fast on it, few mistakes. I prefer it to the iPhone keyboard as well.
I like swype best, but to be honest it all boils down to speed. Any of the keypads are ok, just swype is very fast and accurate for me.

I like HTC_IME keypad as I like using phone keypad over QWERTY keyboard.
HTC_IME v27 from jonasl, by far the best keyboard, not as accurate as iPhones but looks way better.

this! even if u dont want to slide around, the keys are perfectly spaced unlike the OEM keyboard.
Can you just get these keboards from the market or do you need to root your phone for them to work?
I like Anysoft Keyboard, as its the only one I've found with an apostrophe on the main pad.

SmartKeyboard Pro is the best keyboard.
I've tried many others but it is my choice.

You can get some from the market, like SlideIt and Better Keyboard I believe, but HTC_IME and Swype need to be downloaded from the internet. No root required.
I use HTC_IME.

Replacement Keyboard Suggestions?

So I'm pretty much pissed off at the stock HTC keyboard, and Swype doesn't work for me, so I'm wondering what keyboard is worth installing to replace.
I've tried Swiftkey and Smart Keyboard, but they both have problems with double letters when typing fast.
What keyboards are you all using with your 3VO?
Im using Smart keyboard pro and I have problems with it not responding sometimes. I need a better keyboard also. I can't stand the htc one.
if you don't dig swype (and it is an acquired taste I'll admit) I would then recommend swift....
...don't dig swift? Well, almost every other keyboard out there (that isn't trying be either be "swype2" or super unique) will be the same (at best) or worst.
Do swift...have it learn from your txts....srsly, how does that not work for you?
got the old ginge keyboard, seems to be ok.. space bar is a little small..
I was leaning towards the GB stock keyboard, just need to find a modified apk for one with the smilie key. I miss that from my rooted EVO.
I'll probably give into Swift, just was curious what everyone else uses.
Check out hackers keyboard. Its pretty cool.

I downloaded the Swift Beta from the marketplace, seems pretty good, no issues so far with double letters.
I really dig thumb keyboard 4.
The ability to split the keyboard while in landscape so Tue keys are closer to the sides has actually made me want to type in landscape.

I really really miss the GB keyboard. I tried the apk I had from the Evo as well as the one from the market, both not sized for our screens(too small). I'm surprised no update either
Hackers has an ass load of options. I like you can change the overall size it takes up on the screen.
Though I have the full version of SwiftKey, I find the SwiftKey x beta works best for me.

I'm loving flex t9. it's way better than swype imo. plus I got it free from Amazon app a day. I would have bought otherwise. you can trace, write, or voice command it.

the more it learns the better it works.....make sure to let it learn periodically....or make it....also only pick the language modules you need...trust me....I thought I'd shot for flexibility....pfft....more like shooting for randomization--the same applies for swype, lol.

just got swiftkey x beta, gonna give it a try. anything will be better than the crappy stock keyboard.

what keypad are you using?

getting a little annoyed with the choice of keypads, none are quite right for me. I find the majority of them the space bar is too small and im constantly hitting the full stop instead. I like the swiftkey keypad for its predictive properties but the space bar is the same size as normal. Ive tried the iphone emulator keypad which has a much better size keypad but not the predictive options. Although ive only tried the free version so far, is anyone using the paid for version and does it have better prediction? Currently im trying the perfect keypad free version and it seems a bit better, the space bar is a decent size and basically looks like the giingerbread keypad.
Annoyingly i know the perfect keypad for me, its the htc one, ive used it on 4 different phones and it was perfect but ive not seen anyone port it to the SGS2 so far?
What keypads are people using? what are their pros and cons?
Smart keyboard allows you to customize the keyboard however you'd like
[Bigger space bar in your case?]
I'm using swiftkey

I am using swiftkey X .its very very good. the text prediction is pretty good.I recommend it. the app is paid but worth every cent.
From yesterday I am using touchpal input beta (one has to sign up for beta invite) . its pretty neat too. Its a combination of swype like gestures+ predictive text. worth a try.
Im also using swift key x, i love it! its amazing, it has so many features like it can even go through your sms/emails to "learn" how you type i.e. all your slang automatically. Worth the money imo.
yes ive got swiftkey x too, its prediction seems to eb the best there is, i just find the space bar too small, if i could have swiftkey with the size of space bar that the iphone emulator keypad has it would be perfect
Hackers keyboard (from XDA). Much better than the stock keyboard.
"Keyboard from Android 2.3" is my favorite. I use the "+" paid version. Same as stock gingerbread keyboard, only it's more customizable.

SwiftKey x is great, i only wish we could edit the theme, remove the SwiftKey button and question mark button and make the spacebar bigger and it would be perfect, anyone know a way todo that?

Swiftkey x with the HTC keyboards UI and the ability to edit the layout would make my perfect keyboard!
For some reason the HTC keyboard has a less responsive spacebar and worse autocorrect it is nice though!

Best & "Lightest" Keyboard?

Well, Swiftkey X has lost its appeal to me.
What are some of the best keyboards out there that, as odd a request as it might seem, are also light on system resources?
I just like a snappy keyboard that doesn't take two seconds to pop up or disappear, and doesn't 'stumble' when typing (no input for a sec, then all of a sudden puts in your last 3 strokes).
I don't need much in terms of theming, but the one thing I found with Swiftkey that I REALLY fell in love with was the ability to change the long key press time threshold...for example, I decreased it from like 500ms to 250ms...it makes typing for me a whole lot faster. Are there any other keyboards with that?
Thanks for your input fellas.
My swipe pops up right away. However, I HATE typing passwords or usernames with it. I know that doesn't really help, as I cna't find any keyboards I like... I can't stand swiftkey, especially with the browser, as that .com is ALWAYS in the way when I try to search. For general use, I like the stock keyboard actually... its less laggy than the froyo one was, but it still is a bit laggy...
i used for a while go keyboard, but now i'm using thumb keyboard 4 and it's highly customizable, fast no lags, perfect for my big fingers

I've been eyeing that one and think I'll check out the free demo/trial they have.
Unfortunately, Mgamerz, I kinda don't like any swype keyboards. I actually tried going back to it for a while when Swiftkey started fading and still couldn't get into it.
Thanks for the input guys.
I'm using thumb keyboard and its pretty good. Really like the portrait layout, making it soeasy to type.
It would be much better if it let me customize every single keys so I can make my own layout or keys that I use often.

Well I was mistaken, there is no demo.
But you like it? Never ran into any lag? I see a review here and there that says it lags but it was literally only like 2, and one of them was using the LG optimus (the little crappy one T-mobile has, I think)
@knjigo: You're right...I don't like swyping though. Plus, I'm actually referring not to the length of the vibration feedback, but to how long it takes for, say, when I press a letter at the top with a number mapped "under" it for the long keypress, I could actually change how long I had to wait while pressing the letter to get the number to pop up.
I like it. Using it since alien rom and now I'm using cm7. I have experienced NO lag at all on this beast.

I use FlexT9 - It works great - even in browsers and typing usernames/passwords (just type like a regular keyboard) and its a "swype" style keyboard.

Keyboard suggestions?

Any suggestions on what a good keyboard to use on my Touchpad?
I'm currently using some free one called Tablet Keyboard I think. It's ok but when in portrait view, i find it a bit tedious to keep switching between left and right half of the keyboard/screen.

Hackers keyboard is by far the best i've come accross yet.
swype (the new beta works perfectly on touchpad) or swiftkey tablet x for me

SwiftKey all the way
I've tried Smarter Keyboard, Swift Key X, GO Keyboard, and the Stock keyboard.
The predictions in Swift Key are the best I've ever seen. I bought it for my DesireHD and that worked so well. Until now I was using the Beta 3 on my TP but it's expired, so no more predictions
Now I have to buy the Tablet version because the normal one isn't quite suited for a 10" screen.
BTW, GO Keyboard is terrible. I like how minimal SwiftKey is. I don't want some stupid shortcut bar taking up room on the screen like in GO!
SwiftKey tablet is great, love the split keyboard and the predictions.
Sent from my jelly bean gnex
I've tried them all.and when you compare configuration possibilities and customization nothing beats Thumb Keyboard in any field. Swiftkey may have a little better prediction but nit enough to warrant me switching over from Thumb
Sent from my cm_tenderloin using Tapatalk 2
I'm using the stock keyboard most of the time since it has the best accuracy multi finger typing as on a physical keyboard.
Thumb Keyboard is the best I've used. (old screenshot below)
You can also check float and split keyboard. It has 4 different layout. I dont really use the prediction, so i dont know how the prediction is compared to other keyboard. But, it definitely has one of the best keyboard layout option i would say. These screenshots are two out of the 4 options.
Thank me if i helped

Swype Beta FTW! Best keyboard on the market right now. Ironically its actually not on the market... Oops, I meant play store. Swyping> letter typing. An average Swype user inputs more words per minute than a skilled conventional "button presser"
