Hello, I'm new to this forum.
I'm currently using Jusada's ICS1 without tweaks version on my S5830. I'm unhappy with the dialer, contacts and MMS apps on the ROM. Is it possible to get the stock dialer, conatacts & MMS apps installed? tried copying the stock apks into \system\app folder & changed permissions to rw-r--r--. Lot FCs came up.
With the stock dialer I can search using the search conatacts using phone keypad, add speed dial. Stock contacts app gave more options like merging of contacts. Please help.

You can't use stock apps with cm7. Simple as, but there are plenty of dialers on the market.

AOSP or Blur
I have the AOSP MMS.apk if you this will suffice.
Is it possible to remove the Blur messaging app so I can use the stock one instead?
Yes you can. It's in system/app, can't remember the exact name of the apk though, and use Root Explorer to delete it.
Bump for later use. Sorry.
Ok I use Google Voice for my messaging. I would like to know if anyone out there can tell me how to remove the stock messaging app but, having the APK to be able to put it back at will would be EXCELLENT.
Thanx

You can use titanium backup to do both of those things. I'm not sure if incoming sms/mms still need stock or not, so make sure you back it up.
it is safe to remove mms.apk from system/ apps and messaging is safe to freeze in titanium
cool guys Thanx.
Would this be a possible solution to not using the stock messenger that is native to GB 2.3.3 as well, if you use a SMS/MMs app from the market ?

yes, i am using handcent after completely removing the stock app, sending and receiving and picture are fine
How do you fully remove the stock messaging app? I installed Handcent and I kept getting notifications from both stock and handcent even after I disabled them for the stock messaging app. There's noway to clear the defaults, if so please advise. Thanks.

Use tb. Open up the app grant it su permissions. Choose back and restore. Find the stock msg app then press on it and choose uninstall. Reboot. Or use root explore. Open the app go to system then choose apps. Mount as r/w "it will be in the top right hand corner" then find the stock msg app and long press on it and choose delete and reboot. Or rename the .apk to .bak so if you ever want it back just rename it back to .apk

I've tested some apps from this skyrocket thread and some work for our phone while others don't.

Work:
- Browser
- Calculator
- Calendar
- Clock
- Gallery
- MMS (just an app from the market but it looks good and can replace the stock MMS if you freeze it in titanium backup.) update: working perfect now after update.
- Movie Studio
Don't Work:
- Camera (the UI doesn't scale right).
- Email (massive force closes until apks are removed).

I was thinking of trying to get the dialer from an ICS rom. I tried the ex dialer from the market but I'd like the stock one back. Maybe I'll look for it tomorrow.

Thanks for this. I much prefer the stock MMS app. Additionally, I've tested the Calendar app on DAGr8's ICS alpha 2 and it works great and includes the stock widget.
Are you able to receive MMS messages with the stock MMS.apk frozen? I have not been able to. They just fail to download.

Yep. Wasn't sure what freezing in Titanium Backup was so I tried my own thing. All I did was install it from the Play Market. Then in Titanium Backup under "Backup/Restore" I long pressed on "[SMS/MMS PREFS] Messaging 4.0.3-144" (see first attached image) then clicked "Open system details...". In there I disabled Messaging (see second attached image).
Just tested MMS and was able to receive a picture text from my fiance (see third attached image for success!) Hopefully this helps.

Thanks, I use TiBu all the time.
Apparently, there's some bug where it won't receive MMS from iPhones. This would be a problem for me since my wife has an iPhone 4. It would also explain why I thought I want getting them at all since she was the one I kept asking to send me test messages.
No success with email.apk

Sorry about that. I'm new to TiBu so I figured I'd err on the side of caution and be thorough with what I did (plus I had no idea if that was how to freeze an app and there was no mention of freezing in TiBu itself). I meant no disrespect, friend

Did you also replace exchange.apk as well? You have to do both.

I am in this same situation. I can send/receive sms messages fine to and from iPhone users. I can send MMS to iPhone user without any problem, but I can not receive MMS from iPhone.
Is there any known workaround for this?
Nevermind.

Odd, I grabbed them out of a Galaxy Nexus CM9 package and installed them manually and no issues at all. I attached what I used, try them out. Make sure to replace or rename the existing Samsung versions.
Anyone has issues with the aosp mms not be able to receive mms from sprint phones? Mms sent from another att phone shows up fine but the ones from sprint phones will say fail to download.

Tried that. It just made my phone freeze, and un-freeze, and freeze again over and over. Any special trick to it?

I want to know can the messaging app (mms.apk) of MIUI be used in this ROM..because i tried MIUI GB RC2 messaging app in this ROM but it always force closes..all other apps of that ROM are working fine in this ROM too...
So i wanna know if there is a way by which it can be done...or maybe suggest other mms.apk of other ROMs which can do the following things:
1) Display that checklist of contacts for multiple sending
2) Allow to send as many contacts in one go (nice feature of MIUI)
I luv this ROM..its jst that i wanna get this sms thing to be fast and efficient

Hello,
I was wondering if I could replace Samsung's messaging app with Google's SMS/MMS app or just install Google's. I really prefere Google's one but for some reason I want to keep a Samsung-based ROM (not for Touchwiz launcher, but some apps like the Camera with no shutter lag, S-Memo which I use with my C-Pen,...)
Yes you can, but you need first remove the stock messaging app

You can pull the apk out of CM10 build.. Push it in system/app after renaming.. But keep in mind your smses will not be threaded..

Try this.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/....com.android.mms&feature=search_result#?t=W10.
I was going to use it myself but decided to stick with handcent which i've been using since GBread.
I expect you can do with this app what i done with handcent, - go into stock app - setting disable notifications, go to app manager the disable the stock message app - setup notifications on new message app and you should be good to go.
The dev also got the google calender etc too.
Hope this helps and works - let us know :good:

I extracted my MMS apk from my cm10 ROM, download it: http://db.tt/kCXioNLo
then use root explorer to copy it to system/app folder.
Then you set the right permissions (all of the first row checked and first of second row only, if in doubt check on the other apps permissions and set the same)
And the look for Semms.apk (or something like this), backup and delete it

I made a flashable cwm package for you .
It does every thing itself.
enjoy,
Thanks all ! But i've no thread in sms/mms, you have an idea ?
You will not get threaded messages in aosp messaging app.. Use the app someone posted from the market.. It is modded to be used in Stock roms

Is there really no way to have threads with the original file ? I remember when I got the Galaxy Nexus for a week, I had threads on my SMS/MMS app. With the app on Android Market I'm having issues with LightFlow and the unread count from Apex Launcher doesn't work

I'm currently on the Sprint S3, and I flashed your package. All went well, but when I tried to send a picture message, it force closed the app. When I tried to re-open the thread, it just force closes.
Btw, is there any way to get the little message icon in the lockscreen for this replacement? I miss being able to slide outward on that message icon to be presented with the latest thread.
