I have searched and found all kinds of conflicting information.
What is the story with the headset buttons and the atrix?
I have a headset that worked perfectly with my nexus one even with the stock player. With the atrix the phone takes over and the buttons only work to initiate a voice command.
Some third party apps such as winamp can get the play/pause to work.
So how do you get full music control on the atrix? If the answer is a new headset then why did mine work perfectly on the nexus one.
For full music control (not to mention audio quality) it would be best to use Stereo BT headphones, not a headset. http://goo.gl/ZiTpN
Hopefully there is a better way than BT. I really don't want to charge my headset.
worst part is that you can not received call with button on headsets.
as for music control...
do a market search for 'Headset Button Controller'
I know the button worked on my Atrix using the headphones that came with my Captivate for skipping songs and pausing. I don't know if I ever used it to recieve a call though.
I use Motorola SD9 HD's and all buttons on headset work. Auto switch for calls.
May have BT headset model wrong cos I'm in bar getting drunk!

Just downloaded the app. Looks great, hope it can do half of what it looks like. Looking forward to getting home and getting my headset out of my gym bag.
Thanks!!

vingo n google voice search may interfere with the app. freeze/uninstall them if not using.
moto seems to have made the long press of button associate with voice search/commands..
Right, now this almost made me send this phone back, thats how much it annoyed me, but i decided to soldier on none-the-less. I have a pair of Sony in earphones with remote, said remote works on my Desire, with every music player ive ever used in the last 19 months, never had a problem, but for some reason they dont work with my Razr, and neither do a pair of iPod/iPhone in earphones that are kicking around the abode (the missus', not mine ), with any music player i try that i know works on my Desire.
I queried this on another forum and apparently both sets of earphones i tried are "incompatible" Is this true? are only certain earphones able to work with the Razr? And if so, does anyone know if there is a "compatible" list of earphones that work?
Could you good people just list the earphones that work for you, and maybe we could get a good list of working sets for people to be able to reference to, to make life a bit easier for all us music listen too'ers.
Any help with this would be much appreciated, and not just by me im sure.
AFAIR there is an app on the Market to assign functions to those buttons.

Try "Headset Droid" out. I haven't tested with the RAZR, but it's worked for me on every other device.
I can confirm my SGS2 in-earphones are working flawlessly on my RAZR.
As for buttons, try one of the apps for assigning the buttons to functions.
any of these work for beats?

Cheers Brian, tried it, and many others...and nothing, i think it must be a hardware issue TBH, which if Moto did on purpose, thats COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS.

ugh, seriously? Google needs to standardize the headset controls pronto - this is a problem that should NOT exist..My RAZR arrives today so I'll post later this evening (CST) if the JLab J3M's work or not.
If all else fails, there's always bluetooth (those controls are standardized, so they'll work). I personally like the Jabra Clipper (if you can still find it). Allows you to use any set of headphones you prefer with the bluetooth receiver.

Ok, so without Headset Droid installed, my JLab's did not work - at all. Not even pause worked.
I installed Headset Droid and configured it as such:
General Settings ->
Double Click Delay: 250ms
Click and hold delay: 450ms
Target Media Player: Music
Ignore Simulated Clicks: NOT checked
Button Actions -> Play/Pause button actions ->
Single Click: Play/Pause + answer call/end call
Double Click: Next Track + decline call/mute mic
Triple Click: Next Track + repeat caller
Quadruple Click: Next Track
Click and Hold: Volume reset and rise
Double click and hold: rewind
triple click and hold: fast forward
These settings work acceptably with the stock music app (and I'm sure they'll work for any 3rd party app as well, just change the target media player setting).
Remember: Headset Droid will not work if on the main screen it doesn't say "service is activated". Headset droid should automatically start once it detects the use of headset controls.
You can try to tweak it for better response (mine's not perfect) by clicking on "headset monitor" and testing to see how your headset button presses are being interpreted by the system. You may need to change delays or other settings to get it just right for your tastes (i'm not 100% happy with mine yet either).
This is the only solution I have..but it's certainly better than buying a new headset that will most likely sound like..well..awful. Once it's set right, you never have to touch it again, it really is a silent app - if you like it, throw some cash the developer's way (as I have).
is there something like this for the razr

Yep I've had probs, when running I've randomly called people, not sure how as there's no controls on my Panasonic sport headphones, but did have endomondo and the music player running, perhaps there was a software conflict, any one else had it?
Hi, i have AKG Q350. Control (vol + & -) and mic don't work
I have a Motorola S10-HD Bluetooth head set. Sense it is motorola, all functions work with the RAZR, to include, play, pause, skip, go back a song, and volume. With a built in mike you can also send and receive phone calls.
Being wireless, it's great for working out or what ever. I have great range with mine. Haven't had any issues with sweat or humidity.
Only draw backs, if you have a small head, it may not fit you correctly. Also, sense the 2.3.6 update, volume is very loud. I have to keep all media volumes turned all the way down most of the time. And with the Battery/receiver portion in the back, it's not very comfortable to lay on. I have to go with regular head phones when lounging on the couch.
I love them for 95% of the day though. Give them a look.
Headphone jack wiring
I had this problem as well - I tracked it down to the pinout of the jack being reversed at the tip (mic and ground reversed) - which makes iphone-compatible headsets not razr compatible.
I picked up a nice set of Seinheiser's specifically for android, and they worked without a hitch. Anything designed to work for apple though, forget it.
I am of course excluding bluetooth from this, I'm talking wired headsets only.
It's a pain. There's an adapter you can purchase - kvconnection had them the last time i looked - but it's annoying to need yet another bit of tech.
My dr dre ur beats that came with a sensation xe dont work on the razr. They do respond with the app player pro. But still not 100%

I've done a few searches but have not been able to find an answer. Does the Transformer support the play / pause button on *any* wired mic / headset combo? I've tried a set of Skullcandy FMJ and a Sansung Vibrant headset, neither of which get a response from the Transformer. Just wondering if this feature was supported on any wired mic / headset out on the market, or is it just not supported at all?
Thanks!
With the Klipsch app in the market, I've been able to use the controls on my SkullCandy earbuds on my Droid2.
Thanks for the responses, I've checked the Market and found a few headphone apps that let you configure the button. I'll have to experiment with a few...

I couldn't find any apps that would work with my headset. Let us know please if you find something.
I tried the Klipsch app without success. Haven't been able to find anything that allows mic controls to work either.
I tried 4-5 headset and went back @ my jabra dogtag (bt3030) you can stil find them via ebay for about 15-20$ and you can connect any headphone you want
Klipsch app works ok on my G2x it doesn't work on my TF101

I have the same issue on the TF101, I was hoping to be able to get at least the play/pause button to work on the TF101 but so far no luck. I have the Image S5i from Klipsch and with the app I do get more functionality from the play/pause button (+ & -- buttons still do not function though) on my LG G2x.
So I am wondering IF it is possible that TF101 is not capable of supporting button functionality from a headset. I sure hope that is NOT the case. I would really like to be able to use at least the play/pause function from my Image S5i's.
If any body knows a remedy to make it operational it would be greatly appreciated from both me and my wife.
Hi,
Does anyone know how to enable the change track buttons?! I´m using a Jabra BT3030 and it´s working fine to adjust volume in spotify but i cannot change track...
I'm using Sennheiser bluetooth headphones and didn't change any setting to be able to change track, worked out of the box, but with the default player. I know that doesn't help you a lot; does your Jabra work ok with other devices; possibly it's a Spotify problem?

Yes, i was anle to do it on iPhone and android without any problems. But i found the issue now. I´m able to change track in the built in music app but not in Spotify...so it´s a spotify issue.
As for cabled headphones, what about pressing play button twice or three times? (twice makes it next track, three times makes it previous one). If this works it might be that WP doesn't recognize the other buttons on your headset. I'm just improvising, as a matter of fact I don't know anything about this stuff.

Actually that works with cabled...will test this later with my Jabra headset...but it´s kinda anoying that i cannot use the forward and back button on the headset when using spotify. It works in the built in app so i´m sure Spotify will sort it out in future updates.
Okay,
I've done a little surface searching but thus far I haven't seen anyone else post this problem so I'm wondering if it's isolated to my device / headset.
I have 2 headsets both doing the same thing. I have the Bose MIE & iBeats.
The headsets both worked fine with my T-bolt, Razr & Rezound with the Galaxy Note 2 the headsets work however the "next & previous" track buttons are not changing tracks, it's using these buttons to control the volume. Personally I'd rather have the track control than volume anyone else experience this is it a bug or an option I'm missing?

Depends. There are apps out there that let you control the map the button presses, long hold, double tap, and triple tap.
Anyways, iBeats most likely will not work well because the i in iBeats is probably because it is made for iOS.

The iBeats actually are the beats headphones that came packaged with some HTC devices "HTC Rezound & some ONE series".
they aren't designed for iphone but I'm sure would work fine with apple products
They aren't anything technologically designed advanced just another high end pair of headphones.
Yeah, I've tried adjusting settings in the media players but it's the same results with all of them.
PowerAmp, the default player, Slacker & Pandora internet radio. PowerAmp is actually the only one that will allow the double tap of the play button to advance to the next track.

I google'd it before I posted initially and it said controltalk is only for utilization with iOS products. While it may 'work' with other android products, it may cause conflicts with Android. That is what I was saying.
I own a pair of beats and klipsch s4i. none of them are fully functional on my android device.
did you try headset button controller? or jays headset controller?
