Hi!
Anyone use Kies in Virtualbox? I tried with Win7 guest and WinXP guest on Linux host. Didn't works any of them. If I first connect my phone to the PC then found new hardware but the MTP driver can't be installed. Kies can't handle my phone. It tells me "Connecting..." but after a timeout it fails.
In native windows everythings works fine.
The newest Kies update can't be installed because of the installer craching during downloading the update files.
Any idea?

Anyone else been having problems connecting to Kies?

Nope, worked fine for me first time. Make sure when you first install it you select Tools -> Install Driver. This will install the required USB driver on your system. It's not done automatically it seems.
Yes, Windows 7 x64. Worked on laptop no problem. Main PC. Same OS was a no go. Had a look around, it was to do with CDC driver not installing. This is related to the Samsung USB modem. Found separate Samsung USB drivers had been installed and were out of date and taking precedence over the new Kies install. Solution was to delete any thing Samsung related and start again. VoilĂ CDC installed just fine.
No problem on win 7 x64 with latest Kies .

Windows 7 x64 here too. So what does anything Samsung include? So how do I prevent the out of date drivers taking precedence?

Found the problem, Kies won't work when in debugging mode.
So I've installed Kies 2.0 on my desktop running Win7 64bit and ran it fine, but I'm currently traveling and I only have a netbook running Win7 32bit Starter edition, and Kies REFUSES to install. Every time, it comes up with 'Error 1618: another installation is in progress.' Which is absolutely untrue, since I've tried installing it immediately following a restart, and other programs have installed fine since then. I've tried giving it admin permissions, enabling compatibility modes for WinXP or Vista, and nothing works. I've tried stopping and restarting the Windows Installer Service as well. Has anyone experienced this problem?
The only reason I need Kies is for the SGS2 drivers, so I can flash with Odin. If there's another way for me to get those drivers on my computer, that would be great too
Search for Samsung USB drivers .

does kies on windows work with the tab 10.1 i just get a message saying "this version of the device cannot be updated"
i cant back it up or do anything with it
Same here... and KIES connection works on some PC's and dont on some others. I dont know why.
I installed Kies on a Windows 7 PC without any issues. My GT connects correctly when I plug it in.
Yeah im running windows 7 to
damn this kies software
kies usb connection does not work here, and trying wifi kies connection from tablet menu does not seem to do anything either. Im on win7 64 bit.
Any ideas? I can transfer files with ordinary usb connection and windows explorer, but would be nice to have kies up and running as well.
I have been attempting to connect my Galaxy Tab 10.1 to a Windows 7 (64 bit) PC and an OSX (Snow Leopard) Mac Mini to no avail.
I have downloaded every driver I could possibly find, uninstall, restart, install driver, restart and still nothing. I attempted two versions of Kies, even installing the driver through Kies. I have updated the galaxy tab using the August 5th OTA (United States) update but it still refuses to work.
Does anyone have suggestions?
Here try this: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/GT-P7510MAYXAB
It will provide download links for Kies 2.0 and the proper drivers for both mac and pc. Just click on where it says "software" right next to "manuals" on the website.

This is where I have been downloading the software + drivers.
I also tried uninstalling all AntiVirus programs. I also tried seeing if I could push to device in Eclipse, but no-go.
After spending some time with Samsung Customer Service, they decided to let me send it in for repair. They provide the shipping label (UPS), so I guess it's not that bad.
I'm using Win 7 64 bit and I can't seem to connect via Kies either, I've installed version 2 and the usb drivers and when I plug the Tab in via USB it pops up a 'usb debugging' message.
Surely this is just a software issue and shouldn't require the tab to be sent back to Samsung?
Edit:
I've just got it working, disable USB debugging did the trick. Info found here http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1/373613-galaxy-tab-10-1-cant-connect-kies.html
Any way to use Usb mass storage on a Mac? I can adb push, and use kies, but no USB mass storage.
I installed latest version of Kies in my Windows 7 Professional 64bits (UAC disabled, install was "ran as admin")
In the end of the installation process, Windows shows a balloon saying it is installing the driver for the device (note that there is no phone connected to the computer at that moment), but it fails saying that it could not find the driver for the device.
After installation finishes, I can connect the phone, open and use Kies normally, but if I go to Windows device manager, in the "Other devices" branch, it still lists an "Unknown device".
Any idea about how to solve this? I already searched the forum, but could not find anything that worked for me.
Thanks!
PS: I'm using the original USB cable from Samsung.
As long as you are able to connect and work via Kies just leave it. Just check how many people are having problem with Kies, you should consider yourself lucky that you don't have a connection problem
Regards.
Leave your phone plugged in and do a windows update. It should find the missing drivers.
You can find the drivers inside the dir where kies was installed, alternatively a copy is stored on my 4shared, link in my sig.
You can try installing the drivers and see if that helps.
Kies is a huge PITA, you may need to swap USB port and uninstall/reinstal for it to get its act together.
Thanks all who answered.
Unfortunately, Windows Update can't find any driver (already had tried that), and also asking to update the driver and setting it to search in the Kies driver directory has no effect either.
