Hey guys. Ive had my rezound working great since launch but I have just run into a very odd issue. Every time I receive a MMS, handcent and messaging both freeze up and become very unresponsive and I cant type a text if I manage to get into a thread. This is all fixed by a reboot but its annoying that I have to reboot every time I want to text after getting an MMS. Dont want to hard reset or I would have done that already. Anybody else have this issue?

I had that same issue with handcent at times, instead of rebooting just go into manage applications and clear data in handcent. That seems to fix it for me and doesn't take as long as a hard reboot.
yeah, handcent is full of bugs and problems. it's just gotten worse with each update, wouldn't surprise me if it were the cause. i like how handcent looks more so (because you can do non-bubble convos, and have their contact pic next to every single text), but for the most part, GO SMS is better. i never have that problem with go

Hi guys.! i saw that when i open a sms's topic in my phone, after the load of all sms, i notice that the scrolling up or down is very stuttered and slow...so, there is a method or registry tweak that speed up this scrolling operation.?
i have the same problem , like whenever i go to my sd card it takes so long to scroll down it like freezes up for a second
Just delete some of them. I noticed that when I get around 75-100 messages from one person that when I reply back there is like a 5 second delay for when I can start typing. Deleting the messages works for me.

He's right. I've read that this is the HTC Messaging Client flaw and there's nothing can be done except for changing your default messaging client. Yeah, sometimes the lag is so bad I can hardly type.

But XDA-dev can write an application that can solve this problem.? or try to fix it in any mode.? (es. with registry modification) i think that this is a bad problem... I found here a post where a developer added an encription page for the message client, but nobody do an application that solve this stupid lag. I hope that there will a solution soon..in the other side, the HTC support doesn't do nothing for this. And for a phone as HD2 is a big bug (i think so). Any suggestions.?
I got this text message upon someone leaving a voice message earlier today.
//ANDROID:xxxxxxxxxx has sent you a Sprint Voice Message. Call 408-970-0000 to listen. MMSN,15f50fe30,2986,V69EhxxlPpO//CM
Anyone else having this issue, and if so, what resolved it, if anything?
I also can't seem to get into my notification options when I call into my voice mail either. Not sure if that's common or not though.

Someone left me a message this morning, it worked perfect. I would force stop it, clear data from the app, update your data profile then reboot and see if it works.
I gave it a shot, but it didn't seem to work. When I call the number texted to me, it just asks if I'm on a voice SMS enabled phone, but doesn't give me any messages.
I tried the suggestion on the help page through the VVM app, to compose a message longer than 15 sec and send it to [email protected]. Haven't had an occasion yet to test it again, but once I do, I'll update this with another reply.
Strange though. Through many different phone activations over the years, this is the only time this happened. Really hope I don't need to do a hard reset. If I do, I hope it works. Not like I can nandroid or anything. lol

Still a no go... Can't figure it out. ; ;
Gonna call Sprint and see what their take is on it. Will report back.
i am actually having the same EXACT problem!! i have tried for force stop and clearing everything... still getting the same message!! and the VM never shows up in the VVM app!! Thanks for any help!!
I guess that's the only other thing I can think of is a hard reset. If that doesn't work I'm guessing it's something on Sprint's side would have to call in for tech support. I know when you boot up for the first time VM tries to provision itself and will say Voicemail provisioned successfully once data services are active.
Well... Just got off the phone with support. I had a very determined girl trying to help me out. Went through a whole bunch of stuff, but nothing helped so far.
Her and I both googled it, and found 2 things:
1. People switching to a phone that doesn't have VVM capability receive these messages.
2. They are command messages to tell VVM to download each new message when they come in.
Can't figure out why the messages are skipping the VVM app and going straight to SMS though.
I think I'm gonna try a hard reset later and see if that does it. Hope it does, because I spent some time getting everything the way I wanted it. lol
Anyone think of a good backup app that'll help cut down on the restoring my stuff time? ^^;
ADDITION: The version of my VVM is T.5.1.0.62 Is this the one everyone else has also? Asking just to cover as many bases as possible.
Had the the same problem called sprint after about 45 min of trying different things i had to hard reset and they reprovisioned and now it works perfect.

Hard Reset did it. It was A LOT more painless than I thought it'd be though. That backup and restore thing from google really helped out a lot in getting all my apps back. ^^
Also make sure you do not have Handcent's "disable stock messaging app" setting on. When it disables the stock app, the stock app can't get the 9016 incoming VVM messages before Handcent does and will cause this.

You're welcome. I doubt it but maybe the Hancent team can find a work around for this. It seems to me that if you disable it it's disabled but maybe they can block all incoming from the stock app except 9016, kind of like a reverse black list (actually they call those white lists don't they?, lol). I'd like to see that happen, but we'll see what the Hancent crew comes up with. I know others have said that other sms apps can do this or something like that, but I like Hancent better than all the others.
Anyways, glad I could help.
My issue's back again. Did have that setting on though, so I'll restart and see if that does the trick. ^^;

I've been trying to tell my wife that for a long time, maybe I can use this as proof, she keeps saying I'm not that smart.
But glad I could help, if I hadn't done it myself I wouldn't have known how to fix it, lol.
Use spc app to "block" the text messages but still get voicemails if using Handcent.
Just wanted to pass this on to you guys, as it has always worked for me. I had the Evo rooted with a custom AOSP rom and had used GV as voicemail then decided I wanted Sprint VVM back. When I made the switch everything seemed okay, but when someone called my phone and it went to voicemail it wouldn't let them leave one. Did some reading and finally figured out something that worked.
1. Stop the VVM process in running apps.
2. Clear the data for Voicmail under applications.
3. Dial *38 and call it as you would any other number( You should hear a few beeps and then it should automatically hangup) This has something to do with disabling call forwarding but will allow your voicemail to properly provision itself.
4. Open VVM and it should tell you that it has been provisioned successfully.
You should be good to go after this point, but if it does not tell you along the bottom of phone that it provisioned try this again but reboot before step 4. Some have also said that updating your profile and prl after doing the *38 helps.
Just thought I would share this as I read the comments about a hard reset when they aren't needed. I'm not to sure this would help with the issue described by the OP but hey its worth a shot instead of losing everything.
Confirmed: Fix Works for Epic 4G
Yep, I had Handcent Default Application enabled...clearing this resulted in Visual Voicemail back to normal.
At first i thought it was just swype, since that always acts up. Ever since I've had the phone anytime a picture is present in an sms thread, it makes the app go bonkers. It either freezes up, the keyboard flashes at epilepsy inducing speeds or the "soft" menu buttons that pop up flash as well.
I could normally make the problem go away by deleting the picture/media out of the thread manually by selection. Now it does it sometimes without any media being present. Basically if a picture is present, it either refuses to let me type or does so at turtle speeds.
I emailed HTC days after receiving the phone, but the help ticket went down the road of them trying to help me with my frustration of not being able to download .mpo files through the native gmail app, only preview.
I also took it to the sprint store where of course the phone magically started functioning properly when I tried recreating the problem for the tech (yay?), it only took a few tries to recreate the glitch, where she just did a wipe of the phone (don't remember if she did it through the recovery mode or "regular" wipe). But I shouldn't have to wipe my phone every time the stock messaging app starts acting up.
Ill try to get video of it happening tomorrow, it's 3:30am right now... Kinda late to be borrowing anyones phone for such things
Tl:dr stock messaging app acts wonky when media is present in thread
Is anyone else having this issue?
I think no one here uses stock sms app anymore. Gosms and Handcent are great replacements. Plus on gosms you can text from anyscreen, if your in the browser, your sms will pop up and you can reply from their without switching apps. Its very useful, give it a try.
I Haz 3D!
I use the stock SMS app. I like having the integration the stock SMS app has with the home screen and address book. Anyway I haven't had any of those issues the OP is having with the stock sms app. If it happens again try clearing the data for the sms app, that won't clear out your text messages.
Just tried it, data was only about 864kb anyway, problem persists. I dont have a ton of threads/messages in there clogging it up.
And I know about chomp and handcent, ive used them both. I honestly do like a lot of stock apps though, it's not from ignorance... I had a cm7 evo 4g.

I use stock without issue as well. I prefer it now over those apps. For popups I just use SMS Pop-up from the market. Problem solved.
Are We Not Phones?
We Are D3VO!
Are we not phones?!
3.DeE.V.O.!!
i too use the stock app. No issues at all here.
Im wondering if I should temp root and backup all my crap. Dont feel like individually downloading all these apps again if I take it to the store and all they do is wipe it again... If it comes to that and the issue persists, hopefully they swap it out.
My just puts all kinds of weird times on the messages like it'll be 1pm but the time stamp will be 6

Same here. And I'm not roaming. And also if I reply within the same minute the text came in my text goes above theirs in the thread, so it looks like I'm replying before they even send the text which obviously isn't the case... But regardless, I do love the stock app.
I haven't had this phone but a week and rooted it right after I got it so I don't know if this is an issue with the phone, the software, or the root process. In any case, the green notification light often doesn't light up on new emails or messages but does sometimes so it's not flat out broke. Also, sending email from gmail often results in the message in a permanent "sending" state. I did some searching and followed some suggestions such as clearing the data and cache for gmail but it's still doing it. Some send, many don't.
Has anyone seen these issues and know a fix? Thanks.
EDIT: Btw, I've only rooted and removed some bloatware. Nothing else is changed.

You probably removed something you shouldn't have. A lot of programs and functions are interdependent.

Possibly. But in that case I would expect an all or nothing response. Since both the notification and the email sending work at times I'm thinking it's a glitch or interference with something on the phone.
Hi,
Sorry if this question has been answered elsewhere, but I couldn't seem to find anything on it, and everything I did find seemed to mostly be for Froyo on much older phones... The cause might still be the same but don't know.
Anyway, I recently installed SynergyRom on my Galaxy S4, I'm also admittedly a hoarder of text messages, and have 11,000 or so text messages backed up through sms backup & restore. I kind of like having them all on my phone (yes, I've read before that sometimes restored messages cause minor issues, but I like it *shrug*). Anyway, I restored the messages to my phone, and eventually when I was texting someone, the stock messaging app got a force close, after which, all of my messages had disappeared. I didn't think much of it, restored again, and then today when I received a text the app force closed again, and all my messages disappeared again. Any thoughts?
Hopefully the answer isn't just I need to be less crazy about saving texts, but if that's really the cause, that's it.. Anyway, help/suggestions would be appreciated. T hanks!
Waiting for the answer too. I did not root my phone or anything, just the original phone from store. Sometimes the messages in message app disappear. The phone shows "there is no message", the only thing I can do is create new message. After I restart the phone, the messages come back in the message app.
I know by default in the messaging settings that there is a setting check box for "delete old messages....seems after so many message it will delete from a certain point...something like 200 messages...deletes oldest first. Go in and uncheck the box...see if that helps. Having that many texts is nuts...your a texting border...

Yea, I know about limits, and that's definitely not it.. I've heard other people say the text messages come back after you restart, but I'm not sure if that's only if you restart right away without sending more texts.. Mine didn't come back after a restart at least, but I didn't restart until much later.. Thanks for the suggestions so far though!

I konw some data recoverying program will help to restore text messages from phone directly.
Not sure about retrieving from an app.
Visit CNET you might find something useful.
Was this ever solved? I'm having this too on STock mj7
