Is it just me or is wifi on the NT abysmal? - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Problem 1. Many times, I will pick up my NT after it has been sitting idle for a number of hours, and wifi simply will not connect. I try to turn it off and back on in the settings, but it says it is unable to turn wifi off. I power cycle the device and it works again. This will happen on an almost daily basis.
Problem 2. Once wifi is working, certain websites will not load, or will load just once and wont' load again for hours. For example, I bookmarked these forums, and I check them often for updates. I wasn't having any problem at all until the last couple weeks. I'm rooted with google apps, i'm using the original browser. A few moments ago, I loaded the big list of forums. It worked fine. I clicked on THIS forum, however, and it would no longer load. I can browse the forums on my Droid Charge, my Desktop PC, my iPad and my girlfriend's iPhone 4s, so I know the website is not down, and it's a problem with the NT only. Other websites on the NT work fine. I can run the Speedtest app on the tablet with no problems. I can run wifi analyzer. This problem even occurs on Dolphin Browser.
I'm about to just do a factory restore again and give up on rooting for now. This was the same problem that made me restore a few weeks ago. The browser just becomes borked after being rooted for x amount of time.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?
Just an update: After factory restoring using it for a while, and then re-rooting, I've noticed that problem 2 has never re-occurred. I'm not certain what was happening. Very strange. I reproduced the problem over and over before posting. I even tried resetting my router and modem just in case.
Problem 1 persists. Rebooting always fixes the problem temporarily, but if the device goes to sleep for a few hours whether charging or not, it will almost always need a reboot. I always try to turn wifi off and back on, but the device is unable to disable wifi during this issue. I never noticed this problem while the device was unrooted, though I'll admit I didn't keep it stock, unrooted, very long.

I'm rooted and I don't have either of the problems you mentioned. I use the dolphin browser exclusively. I'd definitely go back to stock and then re-root.

Been rooted a week. Use Dolphin-Mini and little on no trouble. WiFi seems to reach pretty far. I sometimes need to restart if idle a while.

I have not had any issues with wifi.

It's you. I have yet to have an issue with wifi. Netflix amazon player, dolphinhd etc.. all hage worked almost flawlessly

I've experienced Problem 1, where I'll need to reboot wifi after leaving my rooted Nook idle overnight, a couple of times. But it's only happened 3 or 4 times to the dozens of nights I've left it on overnight. Otherwise, I haven't experienced Problem 2 or any other issues connecting to the internet using wifi. My Nook seems rock solid in that department.

Same Here.

I am having the same problem 1 the past two days or so. I have sideloaded amazon app store, GO Launcher EX, the Nook app manager and several sideloaded apps from the amazon store. Also running ZD Box.
I will have the wifi just go out with the same message, I turn off and back on and its fine. I figured its one of those issues that will be cleaned up with the next update.
My son has a Nook Color still on software 1.3 and he has had it once or twice.

I am having the same problem with the Nook needing to be rebooted after sitting idle. I am rooted but I don't know if this was a problem while the device was unrooted because I only had it for about a day before rooting. Could it be Go Launcher causing the problem? Because it sounds like the poster above me isn't even rooted.

I leave wifi on 24/7, but only have my NT associated with my home network and my mifi. I have not had any issues reassociating with either of my networks after sitting in my backpack all day.
Wifi so far works great for me.

I've had my NT for over a month now, and no problems with wi-fi. My wife's 1st Edition has to be rebooted and charged up to 100% to get the wi-fi to work right. I think her problem is she keeps letting the device run down to well below 50% before reconnecting to the charger. Less power- less signal strength, I guess.

There are a couple of free apps in the market that might help you. WiFi Analyzer will pick up all the nearby signals and reporrt their strength. You can walk around your premises and see how well your router is reaching various areas.
Just a thought.

Power-saving settings to blame?
I've seen this during three weeks of using my NT. It's not a new problem.
I used an iPaq on my home wifi for years and noted that when I enabled power saving on the wifi NIC on the iPaq, it would get stupid and lose throughput completely from time to time. I'd have to cycle the connection to get it back.
Sounds familiar.
I had it happen sporadically with my NT.
Since BN did my OTA update to 1.41 a week ago, I have not seen this happen.
I don't think sideloading is the cause since I noted this very early on in using the Nook before I sideloaded it.
I believe this is an unfortunate implementation glitch with a lot of wifi NIC's and access points, and not unique to the Nook.

No problems with mine which is rooted. Wifi works great.

My grouse with the NT's wifi is that it seems to be pretty "weak" - signals that my laptop and Nokia N8 could find and connect aren't even visible on the Nook Tablet. That's rather inconvenient.

I've had the opposite experience, In basements and rooms where my phone or notebook have spotty access, the NT has held on like a champ.

This sounds more like a "my router and my NT don't play nice" which is a problem that I have had with my mothers Iphone and my own Droid 3. I changed some settings on the router and it worked for the iPhone, and setting a static IP helped my phone.
A widget to switch wifi on and off quickly is recomended, so that you can "reboot" your wireless. So to speak.
Its also possibly your device is defective? Try it with the wi-fi at work or at school and see if it has better stability.

Man, I haven't even thought about the iPAQ in years. I used to use one all the time until I bought my first smartphone. I had to Google it after you brought it up just for a quick trip down memory lane.
I have power save enabled on my NT and still am not having this problem at all; however, my battery is not getting below 75%. Are you guys maybe seeing this problem after the battery drops to a certain percentage, or is it all the time?
EDIT: I will also point out that if you look at the B&N Nook Forums, other Nook models like the Simple Touch are known to have wifi issues. I had a NST and it would absolutely refuse to get a DHCP address from my home router, so I would just connect it to my mifi when I had the odd occasion to need connectivity on it.

My NT is rooted and I have a similar problem but only with my router not not necessarily all routers. I just unplug my router and plug it back in and it reconnects with no problems. However, before I had my OTAs blocked, I got updated to 1.4.1 and the the issue was definitely fixed. However, that fix was not worth keeping the update. I am back to 1.4.0 and love my NT.

My NT has better wifi reception then my samsung Infuse.

[Q] Momentary wifi disconnects?

Can't decide if this is enough to return the phone over, so I'll ask the question to fellow XDA readers: I just bought an Atrix, and overall I absolutely love it. My only major complaint is that, every other day or so, my phone will randomly disconnect and then reconnect to wifi while I'm using it. This happens both at home and on my college's network. It's never more than a few seconds of lost coverage, but it always seems to happen while I'm actively using data. A few times, it's happened while I was on Market and it caused an app download to stall completely.
So, is this a common thing? Software or hardware? Worth getting a new phone? My local AT&T store was... less than friendly (read: shockingly rude) when I mentioned I might want to swap it out, so is it worth the pain of dealing with these guys again?
Thanks!
A few of us had that problem on release, have you downloaded the update yet? If not definitely try that first.
Here is the original thread: http://goo.gl/hCdN1
Its geared towards 5Ghz networks but still has good info.
What I think helped me the most was the removal of blank spaces from my SSID. Instead of "Wired Pirates Wireless Network", try "WiredPiratesWirelessNetwork". There are a few more good tips in that thread give it a read.
Thanks for the link! My campus wifi has the SSID "MizzouWireless", so I don't think the space is causing the issue. I'm running the latest firmware (rooted as well), and for some reason I'm still getting the issue... weird. Thankfully, it's not super-prevalent, but when it happens, it happens a lot. It also seems to be more related to certain apps than others; TweetDeck will update effortlessly, but Facebook has crashed the wifi twice.
Swapping it out = get a refurb, so I would avoid that option unless your phone is completely unusable.
From time to time I've had the wifi connection crap out too when there's an active download/upload. This is on my home network and it happens most often when I try to upload a video to youtube. I get only 1Mbps up so it can take a while to for an upload to complete.
However, for the most part downloads have been ok. I also assigned a static IP address for my phone to help keep the wifi connection. It still craps out from time to time though.
I had the same behavior with my BB 8900 and my wife's BB 9000, so I chalk it up to normal behavior for a smartphone. Our laptops maintain the wireless connection just fine. I have a work application on my laptop that issues an error message the moment the network connection is lost, so I can easily test this .

Random Wifi Drops

I got my gTab on the original Woot deal, so I've had it a while, running Vegan 1.5.1.
The last 2 days, I've been getting random drops of Wifi. I'll be connecting and browsing, when I get a "page could not be displayed" error, and the Wifi icon disappears from the notification bar. After a brief time, it will reconnect, but then might go out again, at random.
At first, I thought it was my internet, or even my WAP. So I installed the Wifi Analyzer app, and noticed that when it drops I no longer see ANY WAPs, including those I'm not connected to. In settings it still shows Wifi on, but will switch to just "scanning".
Wifi had worked well until now. I thought it was because I had loaded the free Juice Defender app, so I disabled and then even uninstalled it, to no improvement.
Any help? Getting really bummed...
Well, it hasn't happened again in a few days, but I've been keeping my battery well charged (over 50%). I'm wondering if this is related. The last time it happened, I was around 40% battery. I'll let it run down again and see what happens.
Could there be some setting from Juice Defender that's sticking around, even though it's uninstalled?
you considered updating to vegan 7.0?
vegan-tab 7.0
also are you walking around or changing rooms while using the tablet? for me i walk around a building all day and noticed it doesn't like to jump access points. i keep the widget to turn wifi off then on on the screen when ever it acts up. can be annoying but it works, and not a hard fix to do.
Also make sure that the wifi sleep settings are set to never. I had the same issue and once I changed this setting it always stays on without any problems.
Thanks. I double checked that setting, and it is set to never.
I've had it go in and out whilst sitting still on the sofa. My wife sitting a few feet from me on Wifi with her laptop has no issues.
Would Vegan 7 help with this problem? I went with 1.5.1 because of the stability, and (I think) more apps compatibility. But I really don't know that much about the differences.
I am using VEGAn Ginger and the only issues I have found are with the camera not working great, but I do not use it so it does not bother me. I find it is a great ROM. I have the OC 1.4GHZ kernal it is has made the GTab run amazing. If you do switch to VEGAn Ginger remember to reboot as soon as it loads to the home screen, if you don't the load time can become long. I had to reflash mine as it was taking about 3 mins to load now it takes about 70 seconds.
Flash it to TNT 4.4 - should be fixing it!
I'm on TNT 4.4 and everything works great for me - start enjoying the tablet NOT just keep flashing every day TNT, Vegan, Harmony, GingerBread each has some weakness but I chose TNT 4.4 because it's based on the original/stock TNT 3588 and I'm able to run stock HomeDashBoard, News, Weather, Clock with TNT 4.4!
Remember, there is no security at all while using Android - you've been warned !
Good luck!
So it did this for a few days, then stopped. It has been working perfectly for the last few weeks, and it's definitely not battery related (I've had it down to 20% with no issues).
Then yesterday, it started again. Dropping all internet connections every minute or so, only to reconnect after a few seconds. Just enough to interrupt normal browsing.
I thought uninstalling the Juice Defender had fixed it, but it appears to be a coincidence. I also can't think of anything I've installed that should mess with the wifi.
Is this a known problem with Vegan 1.5.1? I would go to GB, I suppose, but don't want to go through the problem if it's hardware.
I may have figured it out. The problem is more frequent when I'm using the gTab downstairs. Well, we have a Cisco WET610N Wireless adapter downstairs to provide internet connectivity for our DirecTV receiver. Last week, I noticed it wasn't connected, so I reconnected it, and realized the problem recurred about the time it was started running again.
This evening, I was having problem even checking email, it was so bad. So I unplugged the WET610N, restarted the gTab, and didn't have another problem.
Assuming this holds, any ideas why this would be interfering? It doesn't bother my wife's laptop usage, nor any other device. If I have to choose, I will have the gTab connectivity...but I wish I didn't have to choose.

Restart your router. I guess it is router problem.

That's too bad, because I thought the cause of my problem might dovetail with yours.
I, too, have these random Wi-Fi dropouts (I can see kernel messages like, "[37511.008477] STA connect received 1", before it happens), but, I thought it was because of my screwy wireless router.
We got IPTV to the house a few weeks ago, and my ISP installed a crappy wireless router along with the connection. This router broadcasts 2 wireless SSIDs on the same channel and at the same signal-strengths (but different MAC addresses). One of the SSIDs is user-configurable. The other just can't be turned off or its settings changed. It uses the same channel as the primary, but, different (and non-modifiable) security settings.
When I saw your post, I thought we had the same problem--multiple wireless routers using the same channel and interfering with each other--but, I guess not.
Well, I'm beginning to believe that the gTab is just more sensitive to interference. Which could make sense since it smaller and has no external antenna. So your situation still might cause the issue.
I've set up another wireless router with a different setup/channel, just to see if there's any difference. So far, no disconnects, but it's too soon to tell for sure. Assuming this holds, then I'll assume it either the older router and/or interference.
I'm having doubts about my interference theory.
I looked at the timestamps of the "STA connect received 1" messages from the kernel (the number between the [ and ] is the time in seconds.microseconds since kernel boot) and I noticed that most of the time differences cluster around the 5-6 minutes mark. And, 5 minutes happens to be what my Screen timeout is set to in "Settings > Display".
I increased the timeout to 30 minutes and, so far, have had only 2 dropouts in the last 3 hours. This means that our problem might be connected to the gTablet's sleep/wakeup cycle (and debugging anything related to that subsystem is a b*tch).
Random Wi-Fi drops fixed!
I finally got tired of having my telnet connections into the gTablet drop every 5 mins, and had almost resigned myself to a few weekends of code scrutiny, when I decided to save myself some work. I checked if using different BCM4329 wlan firmware blobs would fix the problem. I decided to use the latest fw_bcm4329*.bin files from the Nvidia Tegra git source. I installed those *.bin files in /system/lib/hw/wlan/, and... my regular-like-clockwork Wi-Fi disconnects went away!

. They're the latest versions from the Code Aurora project. I don't think it's a problem using an older version, because I got a chance to look at Notion Ink Adam's wlan firmware blobs recently, and that tablet uses the older 4.218.223.1 binary blobs. That's good enough external validation for me.
See if the attached zip file also fixes your Wi-Fi disconnection problem. Install it the usual way using ClockworkMod. The zip file also saves your original files as /system/lib/hw/wlan/fw_bcm4329*.orig, so you can easily go back to them if you so choose.
Well, since I've been using this other WAP, I haven't had any problems. I can't call this "case closed" yet, since I also had good periods connecting to the old one, for whatever reason.
But...if it recurs, I'll give this a shot. Thanks!

Touchpad wifi issue

(Posting here as i cant post in the wifi thread in the dev forum)
Last week I tried Bricked ROM with the 0.4 and 0.35 kernel and wifi was bad. Once it went I had to do all sorts of things to get it back up and it used to go many times a day.
I'm on ClassicNerd 0.1.0 now and it is much better. I'll lose connectivity maybe once a day but can get it back usually straightaway by turning wifi off and back on.
With both roms i did ACMEUninstall, webos doctor and multiple wipes of data, cache and system.
Sent from my Touchpad using Tapatalk
I've resorted to never resetting my touchpad. lol.lame I know but when it works it stays fine .....only until I reset.
sucks
Had a similar issue when my ISP upgraded my router to a virgin super hub ( its a re branded netgear one ) my solution was to disable the router function and connect my old belkin n600 play and now my wifi works and never disconnects even on the 5Ghz mode.
In my case I don't think it was a router issue. Both ROMs were used with the same router/channel as well as at the local Starbucks. BrickedROM had the problems I mentioned above with both routers and similarly ClassicNerd is pretty much problem-free with the same two routers.
It seemed that for whatever reason the WiFi would go to 'sleep' even though the OS thought it was working. So I would get the WiFi signal icon but it would never go blue or show any activity whatsoever. Once it had gone to 'sleep' though, it wasn't straightforward how to wake it up. Sometimes it needed some 'rest' so I was turning it off and back on after a few minutes, other times it would persist even after rebooting. I would even forget the network, turn it off, reboot, etc and repeating a few times but I never found a pattern that would work consistently! Very-very frustrating experience!
You talking about the bricked rom from feb02? I am currently running that (upgraded from cm7) with v0.35 kernal and don't seem to have any issues at all. Just a silly question, but can you connect in webOS

WiFi Issues

So, I've only had my LGOG for a day and a half and I am having issues connecting with WiFi. At first it worked fine but when I left the coverage area and return a few hours later it would not connect. Tried turning off the WiFi but it kept turning itself back on. I reboot the phone and it works fine as soon as it boots up it connects the WiFi no problem. It is my work WiFi and I had no issues connecting to it from either my iPad nor my HTC One X that will soon find it's way to eBay thanks to this beautiful LGOG. If no one else is having issues, I will call AT&T and have them switch it out. I just wish there was an easy way to back up everything, I mean my home screens and app locations exc. It takes so long to set everything back up the way I find most useful.
WiFi on my device has been excellent.

The Wifi performance of this device is unbelievable. I get the best speeds I have ever seen with any device including PCs. It's either a faulty device or maybe your work has strange security settings?
I had this same problem with my LGOG and my home wireless network. It just would sit and try to connect until I rebooted the phone.
That was on stock though. I have not had any more problems with it after flashing the base rom.
My work has standard WPA settings and it was connected fine yesterday. I left again during lunch and when I came back, same problem and had to reboot the phone. AT&T is sending me another one already and a free case. Can't be too mad about it I guess and at least the phone reboots fast.
Have you tried using the ATT smart wifi app? Fixed the exact same issue for me.

Twice My O.G. wouldn't connect to wifi networks even though it had connected to them in the past. I tried to turn it off and on and scan for the network that I am in range of and it wont show any networks it just says "not in range" when I am in range. So to remedy the situation I turned the phone off and then on. It has only done this to me twice but it's a real nuisance because both times I needed wifi. My phone is stock.
You're in a minority. This thing's wifi blows most other wifi implementations out of the water.

I wish my wifi would stop re-enabling itself. It's chewing up my home bandwidth.
I have been having this issue as of late. It seems to have developed this habit in the last week or so. At first I thought it was Time Warner trolling me but it started happening at work. Something tells me it has something to do with the stock At&T Rom putting the wi-fi radio to sleep and not being able to bring it back online. Reboot fixes it most of the time but sometimes it takes a couple attempts. I have been hesitant to mod this phone still because I would really like to see CM working well before I flash. Also my instinct tells me another possible culprit could be IPv6 on certain routers. That, however, is far less likely unless someone with a decrapified Rom has experienced this issue as it would be a cross platform issue in this case. Anyone else have any insight? Otherwise it's time to get rid of the Att rom.

Same issue here. This is my second LGOG and have been happy with both except for some minor glitches on both with the keyboard freezing up as well as with the WiFi not re-connecting after leaving the area. A restart normally fixed both problems. My first one bricked after rooting and removing all of the bloatware (the phone checks for certain apps upon booting to keep you from removing stock apps). Tried a fix but I couldn't get a Rom at that point as the phone had been out on the market for under a week. I haven't messed with it since but I may try a new Rom and be able to fix the WiFi and get rid of all the bloatware that way.
Just got this ROM running today. No more WiFi issues at all. Some minor ui bugs I am OK with.

Seems like, as usual, At&T bloat ware is the culprit. I experienced the same on my Aria and Inspire. Hope this helps and good luck.
Also I had the keyboard problem but that went away when I switched to the Android default keyboard. One of the other reasons I decided to root was because rather than freezing, the Android default keyboard started typing then the auto correct broke and stopped displaying the words unless you touched the area you were typing in. It really bugged me when it started doing it right after I factory reset. Weird huh?

LG Optimus G Wi-Fi Receiver Disconnect Issue
Funny...I've had some weird home wi-fi issues on two of these.
To explain, I bought mine in December, stock OS of course, and immediately noticed it turning off my wi-fi every time I tried switching between the two home wi-fi SSIDs I created when I upgraded to DD-WRT. This also occurred outside my house, but stopped shortly after the nearly-immediate Android OS upgrade came over (and forced me to install it, I might also note; I'd read the thing was just more AT&T bloatware, but two or three boots later, apparently I got no choice, and it auto-installed).
The good news was, somehow, this 'update' somehow stopped the thing from turning the wi-fi off when I switched between IDs (my base router has a 5G 2nd network which I wanna use when I'm around it, but DD-WRT won't support, as far as expanding it--thusly, I have another 2.4GHz signal I use and relay out around my yard).
That bad news is, though, that I screwed up the phone with the Root Toolbox (Lite) by merely fiddling with their bootanim settings on that original phone. And I mean bricked it, solid.
I'd never bricked any phone, so this ticked me off. Luckily, I was still within 2 days of my 30-Day Best Buy in-store replacement warranty, so I took it back, they fiddled too, and gave up on it.
Hence, my 2nd phone...which now, even after the system update direct from AT&T, still turns off my wi-fi every time I try switching to that 2nd SSID, so I'm left wondering if it was even the same update; I don't think I did anything else, and can't see it as a settings issue, because it did it right out of the box, and the first one stopped after the only system update before I got a chance to even figure ANY user settings out, much less any network ones.
So, now I'm 'going shopping' for 'some PlayStore app' that will skip this B.S. and automatically connect to the strongest home wi-fi signal (within reason--sometimes they're equally strong), without obnoxiously turning off my wi-fi receiver as I look at it.
This kind of malarky could spoil some phones for some people, but I'll struggle along due to the speedy quad-core in it [sigh...wah!].
I guess I'm a big baby, seeing as how I don't write one iota of code, but my personal haughty view is that any dedicated wi-fi devices should have better wi-fi connection than any Windows OS made...and, so far, this'n doesN'T!
What a dumb thing to let happen in such a potentially awesome phone...[AT&T!!!]
This might work or not but can't hurt to try. Apparently some people in the new snowleopard JB thread was having similar issues and for a few, changing the security from WPA2 to WEP worked. Although mines been good and fine on WPA2 but worth a try.
Using wep in 2013 is beyond retarded.

DUDE! Senior Members here can be a little uppity and rude...even if they're completely correct.
Glad you called out the 'behavior', and not the 'member', though...
but enough of the technicalities...I'm still looking for solutions...beyond blaming AT&T (too easy), or even the strangeness of getting into blaming some weird kind of manufacturing errors (QC at best), I'm left waiting for a substantial OS update (like, oh a better place of decimal, perhaps?), or worse, an app...anyone look at the state (and sheer number) of 'wi-fi' apps? Anybody here can guess, they number in the thousands, and a Play search for 'wi-fi' gets you astronomically different results from 'wifi', even, so I'm not sure I need to be looking at that.
Maybe it's even somehow that, with the first phone, I noticed this, and somehow added my own home network to the AT&T Smart Wi-Fi 'bloatware' that came with the phone (not the worst evil they've ever done, so far, BTW--it does exactly what I imagined should be going on in the background while you're driving around, indexing locales with free Wi-Fi for you to choose to save later...an idea I would call 'Tarzaning', if you get my drift).
I'm gonna try changing two settings in the AT&T 'Smart Wi-Fi' bloatware to 'My Spots' temporarily, at least, to see if it'll latch onto my home stuff more aggressively. I just can't wait to report back my fantastically successful findings here (right after I buy the domain name 'snarkasm.net').
Oh crap...it's already taken.
Is the AT&T smart wifi thing enabled by default? I can't remember. I thought it sounded useful so I played with it a bit but ultimately I didn't like the way it worked so I disabled it.
Still wanted some way to auto-enable/disable wifi. I didn't have anything to go on, but I picked up "Smart WiFi Toggler" which seems to work well. It uses location-based rules (based on cell signals) by default. I also use AutomateIt to turn off mobile data once wifi has been on for 1 minute, and turn on mobile data immediately when wifi disconnects. I have no idea if this saves me any battery life, but I do it anyway.

[Q] Wi-Fi issues 7" HDX

It looks like this is brought up around the net a little bit but I don't see anything here. I'm having problems where my wifi connects fine, works great and then seems to stop. It still shows it connected but it isn't receiving any data. The other issue I have is if I leave the area and come back in range, it'll reconnect but says that it isn't getting any data from the connection. A quick on/off of airport mode seems to clean it up for a little while but it does continue to cut out again.
Sorry if this is a duplicate issue on here but I didn't see it.

No issues here, are you running 13.1.1.0 or 13.1.0.2?

13.3.1.0
Been having issues like this... Doesn't totally seem to lose connection, just slows to a crawl. Other devices don't seem to have an issue when it happens

I've had it happen before, but I have a flaky DSL connection and I chalked it up to the source rather than the tablet. It seems to coincide more after tablet's gone to sleep for a while and need to re-engage WiFi.
Mine is getting worse.. Think I may return it. Loses connection all the time while everything else in the house is working

I wonder if it's the WiFi driver and the screen not updating the current WiFi status.
Sometimes if I get to a game that hides the notif bar and then go "home" again I get a WiFi -X (disconnected) icon. I then had to 'recycle' (airport mode) the connection and it works again.
Probably had something to do with sleep and re-init WiFi. JuiceDefender had a setting for this, but sideload that is gonna be a PITA.
I've never had a connection issue per say with the Wi-Fi, but I have had the issue that's going around a little where sometimes if I turn my Wi-Fi on and it's connecting the HDX will just restart. Haven't had it happen to me much, 1 maybe 2 times in owning it a couple weeks? No issues in terms of connectivity to my network when and while connecting though, on 13.3.1.0
As per the internetz.. I've set the IP to static and haven't had the same problems again... Will keep posted

I just reset the entire WiFi connection (forget the SSID, then reenter a password, which is a royal PITA as I have a VERY VERY VERY long passphrase) and that seem to have resolved it. May be a corrupted settings saved?
I haven't noticed any issues with mine. You might want to (unless you don't want to lol) factory reset the kindle if you already haven't.
I spoke too soon. had a problem with my wifi cutting out twice these last 2 days. i'm sending this thing back. not sure if i'm going to get another one. really hate fire os
I think part of the problem is Amazon chose NOT to put in any sort of a "progress bar" in most of its apps, thus makes us think the whole thing's frozen. it also hid the status bar so we can't see if it's really stuck with an app like SeePU. ARGH!
Once I was on the MayDay button doing video chat with Amazon rep when we were both surprised that the Amazon store just came alive after two data resets (from AppInfo). Apparently it was just downloading stuff in the background and gave NO indication whether it's actually doing something or not.
I was having the same issue, got a replacement device and it's working fine.
