[Q] GPS coordinates where? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, where can I find the GPS coordinates in the stock GPS app? I don't want to send anyone just read from display.

Get yourself something like Ulysse Gizmos from the Market.
Can report DMS, UTM, etc... a few different heading/bearing options as well, and updates your AGPS data each time you launch it. It works with Maps as well, so you can see where you are on the map as well as knowing your actual XYZ.

I don't recall any GPS specific app in 2.3.6 stock ROM. GPS support is implemented through google maps for example, but there's no specific app to get info from the GPS.
If you're looking for more info from your GPS you could try GPS Status

GPS Navigation Apps--Copilot, Sygic Navigation

Just wanted to report that although the new Copilot updates no longer work with the nook color (imei issues), the Sygic Navigation app (formerly Sygic Aura) now works as it no longer requires internal GPS. I used it on my Nexus S before I took the phone back and then asked them to switch devices. I now have it running on the Nook Color using the Beta 3.1 with the .32 overclocked kernel. The device code used for Sygic is generated from the sd card being used. I also still use the older Copilot apk that doesn't require imei. Copilot works well too and probably better with more up to date maps. And $5 is a better price than what Sygic Navigation costs.
Can u describe exactly how u made Aura run on your NOOK?
With version 3 I didnt have any luck.I installed app from market, I downloaded maps, but when it starts, it gets me back to homescreen.

You need to use an external GPS, enable bluetooth, and also download GPS bluetooth provider free from the market. Turn on your GPS device, enable bluetooth on the Nook Color, and then start the GPS bluetooth provider app, and finally launch Sygic Navigation. It should open now.
I'm using Bluetooth GPS and an external GPS. I also bought and loaded Sygic but, when I start Sygic, the screen goes black, you can see the arrow in the bottom tray then the app closes and returns to main screen without any explanation.
Running CM7.0.2 from sdcard. Wondering what might be the difference in that yours is working?

Is bluetooth enabled? Did you start bluetooth gps? Did you get a satellite fix? Differences between your setup and mine: I'm not running off sd card, running 3.1 beta with the .32 oc kernel. It is my guess that running CM7 off the sd card is causing the problem.

Please give me link for 3.1 beta then.
I have tried also running the app from emmc and I had also gps fix, but I always get the same situation:just back to homescreen.
Also I have read somewhere that it doesnt work with Android 2.3.3.Maybe this is the problem??

The CM7 .32 kernal beta build which you can get from the first page of the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=960537 is 2.3.4. http://kan.gd/ixm
Other Navs
Was looking through some other threads - many additional offline map apps are discussed here. Downloaded Mapdroyd - seems to work CM7. Bought Navdroyd ($7.20) which also has navigation via GPS. Downloading maps now so I'll let you know. BTW - both of these work offline.

Just took a drive around hte neighborhood - works great, good directions, fairly accurate. Using Gsat bluetooth GPS and Bluetooth GPS

It doesn't. You'll have to find an older version (.504) or try Sygic Navigation. Here is a link that may help with the former solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1051972.html

Question - I've got Sygic loaded and it FC with the older version. Opened it after reading your post (thanks) and it worked - asked for email pw etc. Then it asked for product code - ?? I think this one was bought ( might have been free - don't remember) but it came through the Android market and as such does not come with a product number ( looks like a registration number). Is this number located somewhere in a file folder?
Thanks for any help.

Maps and Navigator trouble... =\

Hi guys,
Well... I have installed recently CM7 6.5 and Kernel 18.1. I changed the kernel version (to v18) because of the big battery drain and i can't use Maps and Navigator!
I don't remember if i tried it with Kernel 18.1, but when i open these apps, they keep loading, and loading, and screen's light turns off and nothing... they don't run!
I have tested other apps, and they run normally, the trouble is in these two apps...
=\
Someone have a solution?
Obs.: I have installed street view too and i don't use 3G.
Thanks!
Nobody knows about it?
Please, someone! Help me!

id say flash back 18.1 and see if it works. maybe its a kernel problem.
if that doesnt work, try reflashing gapps

I reflashed maps application and for my surprise, the app run normally, without any problem... maps and navigator.
Well... i closed the app and when i tried it again, a problem appeared. I can see only the last map charged... if i search for any adress, it keeps charging, and charging, and the new map doesn't appear. In the navigator, the app can't find my location...
What curious case! Anybody knows what i can do to fix it?
Thanks!
Obs.: I can reflash maps several times and it works until i closed it, after sometime running the app.

You need a WORKING DATA connection, period. You can prefetch some 10 "maps" (IIRC 10 miles diameter) in latest versions to avoid that.

Nothing helps.
It seems, GPS driver sure, that altitude MINUS 150 meters is wrong and do not return position to OS. But actualy altitude of Dead Sea ~ -400
Now I can't check this issue now
1. I'm on GB now.
2. Point, where GPS lost is about 80km from my home and I've no plans to visit it in near future.
But It already checked 2 times.

same here - more info
Having the same issues: below -168M, no GPS fix.
More info:
-Aside this issue, no other issues with the GPS – the GPS function perfectly, locks quickly etc (above -168M)
-Below -168M, the GPS continue to have good satellites viability (at least 5-9 are fully ‘green’), yet the data (location, altitude, etc are frozen).
-The above occurs with all GPS application i tried (several status / navigation apps).
-using other phones GPS (e.g. some Alcatel with 2.3.4) at the exact same locations, their GPS is o.k.
-upgrading from Android 2.3.7 to 4.0.4 did not solve the issue (both cyanogen)
-I tried the "[root] GPS Control SiRF StarIV" app – did not solve the issue
- Planning to try "GPS Aids" app - not sure exactly what it does/will it help...

Didn't try to modify the gps.conf file.
Quick search on the web, seems like most suggestions to modify the file are related to improving the performance (faster gps lock) -not resolving complete lack of locking.
Do you have a specific recommendation/idea what to change in gps.conf file for this specific problem we have? if so, can you please explain
why?
(note that here is no lock performance issue here. its simply completely stop showing position below certain height)
Well, its worth a shot? But before you do, are you using the internal gps or the bluetooth gps? If your using one, try switching to the other?

I tested a GB ROM 2.3.6. It did not loose lock if coming from a high place, bit when I was already at the dead sea and opened GPS Test, it did not lock again even with 12 satellites in view and with good signal. I believe it is the GPS chip Firmware that causing the problem, so there is no fix for it.

Google Maps only half-a offline
Google Maps does now let you download areas of the map for offline use, but you cannot initiate an route when you do not have data of some kind.
You might want to try the Copilot GPS app. It is a free teaser that lets you download maps for one region for free. US and Canada are considered one region and you have the choice of a few states grouped together, the whole US (1.2gig), Canada, or US and Canada together (1.3gig). This will give you a moving map with your current position and route highlighted. You will not get voice prompts, Automatic rerouting, and such. Those features are available in their for pay versions.
I agree with copilot. Also sygic is an awesome app, with no data connection necessary. Costs $20, but well worth it. It uses tom-tom maps that you download.

[Q] Searching for GPS no matter what ROM I try...

Hello XDA community,
Unfortunately I seem to be having a problem with my GPS, I travel a lot so this has become a pain. I have tried flashing custom ROMS but nothing seems to change. I used @Adam's method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2272066 to unlock the bootloader. If I could be guided to a solution I would appreciate it!
Maps won't lock on, with "Searching for GPS..." displaying on the bottom.
I ran Faster Fix with North America Region and nothing happened.
I also downloaded GPS Status and reset / downloaded my A-GPS Status
Try this:

go to Google services framework
clear data
Then
go to settings

click all at top slide bar
go to maps

uninstall updates
Go to location services
turn off VZW Location service or disable it all together if you have the option
Power cycle phone
update maps from android market if your phone auto updates after you reboot that's ok, my note 2 auto updated maps and my gps worked fine
That's it your GPS should be working now"

I've had the same issue. My searching for GPS lock sign would not even turn on with Jedi rom. And with cleanrom, the gps lock sign would come online but it would not lock. I tried the jellybeans rom, and finally it worked. One thing i've found different with the jellybeans rom against the others were that if you go to location settings, you can see the VZW location option, whereas for the other two it wasn't there. I don't have this option checked by the way.
Just giving you my 2 cents based on my experience. Maybe it could fix your problem if you install jellybeans rom and then follow the instructions suggested by the other guys here.
Have you tried Pimp my rom and replaced the GPS files with it?
Also you need to go in Settings, under accounts click your Google account, go to location access and make sure it is turned on for your phone. I have flashed roms before and done everything except check that and for some reason it should then on when you turn on your Location and Google search under GPS but it occasionally won't on the first lock on some roms.

It may just be an issue with Hangouts, however I would lean more toward a AOKP issue. You could download GPSTest to replace the to replace the AGPS data..... It may just be a AOSP bug with Hangouts, however this js the first I'm hearing of it.
