hi guys, i have this problem which i'm not sure is attributed to the hardware or defective apps.
About 1week ago, my phone speaker suddenly not working, at that point of time i was using stock KK5 with JKay settings.
I clear my cache, dalvik, not working.
Wipe all, flashed to checkrom 4, not working.
Nandroid back to KK5, flashed to newest KL3 2.3.6, not working.
Since its the festive period, don't want to leave my phone to service center, since my backup phone is a dumb phone.
I don't want to update my apps since if need flash to stock, i update for nothing. Nonetheless, i yesterday night upgrade, but speaker still not working as well.
But now when i plug in my phone to desktop, the speaker is suddenly working again, as i can hear the beep sound, and when i tried to play songs, it is working as per normal. I restart the phone, the speaker now is still working.
So therefore should i still send my phone to service center?

Honestly, that's something only you can answer. It seems the problem has fixed itself, hasn't it ? If that's the case then I don't see what the problem is
I guess the bottom line is, does that problem occur when you're running stock ? If it doesn't, then it's obviously an issue with whatever rom/kernel you were using. If it does happen with stock as well as with custom rom/kernel, then it's probably a hardware issue and me personally, I'd get it fixed. I didn't pay $500+ for a phone to have the speaker stop working after a few months. I have a "dumb" phone as a backup as well, having to use this for as long as a repair takes wouldn't be an issue for me.
Hi,
I'm using Stock rom with custom kernel. One thing to note is that by default, it is shipped with DXKI2. I updated to KJ3 and subsequently KK5 without doing a full wipe. Only cache and dalvik wipe. Along the way i did switched kernel, but i used the samsung ultimate kernel cleaning script to clear any files left by previous kernel.
It is only last week during KK5 that it suddenly go defective on me. Tried KL3 and stock kernel, does nothing to help it. It is only just now then it miraculously fixed itself.
So let say if i did go to the service center, what kind of reasons should i explain to them in order to 'fix' it?
Seriously ?? How about "the speaker is failing intermittently" ?
Back everything up to external SD, flash stock, reset the download counter with a jig, do a factory reset to get rid of any apps that might give whomever is repairing it a hint that you've rooted the phone & send it in for warranty service.
Not exactly rocket surgery :-|

Ok, noted.
For now i shall monitor for another week, if it is failing again, service center shall it be.
Thanks.
Update: I reboot, re root, still fine... but when i nandroid backup finish, clear counter using jig, no sound again....
Probably loose wiring? Service center shall it be!!!

Sounds like hardware. Return for warranty repair or replacement
If rooted;
1. Use Triangle Away to reset counter
2. Flash back to original official firmware
3. Wipe any evidence of SU apps etc and also internal sdcard

Done everything you've mentioned and returned phone to the supplier. Just wanted to know if it is a mass defect or is it just my unlucky phone.
I'll keep it simple.
I have an ATT 4.5.91 2.3.4 rooted Atrix 4g.
No custom rom, recovery, kernel, nothing.
A few hours ago, my phone rebooted and ever since, Error comes up under the Wi-Fi as caption.
Bluetooth also refuses to work.
So I simply backed up my stuff via Titanium and did a factory reset via fastboot.
Problem is, the problem is still there.
I'm panicking, what should I do?

Try wiping cache and dalvik, then flashing another compatible kernel.

Sounds like you have the very common wifi/bluetooth chip burnout. Its a hardware issue, no amount of changing radios or wiping is going to make a difference. Only option is to warranty claim it.

Ugh. My warranty was over ages ago. Think I'll go buy another phone. Thanks for the help!
For those who may be looking at this later, hitting the phone at the column under the camera temporarily activates wifi( where the chip should be, go look at ifixt teardown if you want to know exactly know where it is), although this is not reccommended.
im helping my wife. and i got the problem described below.
When making or receiving phone calls from my
s3 some strange noise starts happening and
won’t stop, resulting in me or the person I am
talking to having to hang up an make the call
again. I have tried new modem. resetting back to stock. flashed new build. reinstalling the
operating system from the built in function and am still experiencing the problem.
If you've already factory reset and flashed a fresh stock 4.1.2 rom for your country then it can only be a hardware fault.
Maybe worth trying a mega wipe script first?

already done that. viber and skype works perfect. and also the built in internet call service.
so i think it must be something else like operator(3 sweden) or something as i didnt have this issue a year ago. it started with the lastest update.
Hey everyone,
I have this problem along time already, which when I dail then I can't hear any dial tone
and when the other side answer's we can't hear each other.
I have tried so many solutions such as changing a cell company and changing modems: NEUGND1, JKUGNB2
When I'm really really lucky I am succeeding to make a call, but this situation is really annoying.
Any ideas ?
Flash the full stock firmware for your country with Odin then factory reset, if still the same then you have a hardware issue.

I'm almost sure that it's not a hardware issue since it started to happen only when I flashed the cw11 room.. Is there any other way to check this problem?

The only way to be 100% sure is to change rom or flash to stock so that you can rule out software issue.Just make a nandroid backup of your current rom then flash back to stock you can do all that in less than 20 minutes
Hey everyone,
On one of my phone restarts some how it took more then a regular restart (the time that takes a phone to start from a new flash)
SO after couple of minutes the phone booted up clean, with everything erased! luckily for me Google saves most of the information
on the cloud so most of my stuff were restored (made me make the backups of stuff in more often time)
The weird thing is that suddenly I can make calls without any problems (what a mystery ha ?)
And now I'm afraid to make any upgrade to a newer CM snapshot version haha. (even though I can make a nano backup and try it out)
Thanks for the help !

thx man, i hope someone knows how can i solve the problem.
What had you done before you got to this issue of no cellular signal?
Did you flash a custom ROM etc..? Which version were you on before? 4.3?
What did you do after you found out about this issue? Did you by any chance flash an older version?
Because that tends to do that, atleast that's what happened to me.
I had a wrong/fake IMEI ("0049..."), which caused that I had no cell reception and couldn't use the phone to call or send/receive sms etc...
I googled a lot and I tried some of the TUT on the web, but nothing helped. Until I found a thread on the xda that said one could try to flash a newer stock ROM (don't know the exact thread).
So I went ahead and checked the version I was on...luckily it was 4.0.4
I then downloaded a newer stock ROM 4.3 for my region and flashed that using ODIN...once it passed I went to recovery: wiped cache and factory reset.
and voila...when I checked the IMEI code again, it was back to the original one.
If that doesn't help check the following thread on xda: here
I suspect he allowed the battery to run out, which corrupted the efs partition, as he says his phone was on 4.3 and didn't change anything until after the problem happened.
Flashing latest stock firmware is the first step, as suggested above, but I think the OP may have to pay for a repair. Make sure it works on 4.3 before you accept the bill.
I forgot to say, my battery got bigger before that happened, i can't fit it in my phone, is double than a normal one, i buy other battery, have this something to deal with the problem?

I was on 4.3 version, i didn't do nothing, i even not installed the root/cwm....the problem appeared from nothing...right before i change my battery. I tried with my region stock rom (4.1.2;romania) and with 4.3 stock ROM but didn't work.
Today i let the phone on a service....i told her what is the problem and i hope there's nothing to do with motherboard. Anyway, please let me know if there's something else to do while i wait 3-4 days for the answer

That's not good...bulging/expanding battery is a very bad thing and should be replaced asap.
Why it happens, is another thing...could be due to various reason such as thermal runaway or even acid leakage.
Fix that first before you move to any flashing and/or other stuff...

I already replaced it.
Fixed
Hi everybody, i finally sent the phone to service and they fixed it for 17€; everything ok, no problem occurred...i flashed stock 4.3 ROM, then CWM and SU, but....then....after one day of use, i forgot to shut down the phone and, again, removed the battery with the screen on....i connected quickly the battery and the phone started without press any button.....and then, surprise!!! Me trying to make a phone call: "Not registered to network"...fu**...but IMEI was still alright(w t f?). Third day i sent again the phone to the service and they told me that i am playing whit the soft (what man? just because i flashed CWM and SU? damn), i told them again what i do with the battery and they said is not true (now what i am supposed to do? they don't trust me) but fixed it again free..for first and last time. Now here is the question: what i need to back up in case that will happen again? It can't be fixed with a backup of IMEI/Modem file...
Go read the sticky thread in general forum.
