[Q] CWM questions - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

So there are 2 options in CWM recovery, namely 'install zip from sdcard' and 'apply zip/update from sdcard'. Whats the difference? Isn't both options considered flashing? I was tempted alot of times to use the 'apply zip/update from sdcard' option. But I wouldn't want my Ace to turn into a portable paperweight. So can anyone tell me what's the difference? Thanks in advance. Peace out!

Is the same.
Install zip: you can choose any zip file.
Update zip: use update.zip file.
Ps. Sorry my short answer, i dont speak english

Just to add clarification:
The apply update option in CWM will automatically look for a file named update.zip on the root of your SD Card, then flash it automatically.
I don't, however, recommend you renaming a flashable .zip file to update.zip just because it'll be more convenient; I'm not aware of the consequences, but my Linux experience tells me that a lot of **** can stuff up if you try to modify files related to the system.

I remembered I used the apply update option WRONGLY and got a bootloop. Had to reflash everything and I didn't make any backup thanks to the 2 of you

Rom Manager / CWR Zip File Question

I have searched with no luck. Any help would be great. Question, Why would I have Rom's and zip files I can see in Rom manager but can't in CWR and vice versa? I looked through my memory on the phone to see if they were possibly being saved to different folders but didn't see that is the case. I may just be dumb...
Thanks guys

Are you talking about in Rom Manager when you choose "Install ROM From SD Card" or "Download ROM"? If you choose install from sd card it will be the same in Rom Manager and Recovery.
Looking in the correct folder? If you download from rom manager something it will be under clockwork folder then download folder. Also make sure you dont choose install update.zip and manually choose zip to install.
Ok i found them. There are a lot more files in my downloads folder than my clockwork file. I'm a dumb ass. Thanks

I tried approximately 22 times to install from multiple sources but the zip file is just not showing up!!!!! Can someone please help or give a step by step guide? I really want this ROM on my phone
You need to expand the rar file you've downloaded to extract the zip inside. Place that zip on your external then it should show

Here, i made the zip for you http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HFFEYG2Y. Just download boot into recovery and you should see it.
The reason your phone couldn't find it before is because it was in a RAR format and when in CWM only ZIPS are recognized for installing

I've seen this type of download before and it says the zip itself (named boot) is a .img and when I put it into the SD it shows up as a very small (4,000 KB) zip file. it doesn't show up in CWM.
Did you try repacking it as zip?

Flashing few CWM zips at once?

I was wondering if there is such way. Every time I flash a new rom I have my few mods I wish to install.
Is it possible to multi-select ZIP files in recovery and then it'll flash them all one after the other?
Also, how can I tell if I can just copy the zip content into the appropriate location in my rom.zip, or I it requires some other changes as well?

Twrp recovery is the only recovery that allows you to do that. A very nice feature imho.

i updated my phone to jelly bean .
im gonna need the files for jelly bean XXME1 (german) i8160p NFC brah'???
First some infos about rooting. For rooting you only need a superuser app and its binary. In most of the time it is SuperSU. Here is a introfuction for I8160 witch works perfect. It should also work on I8160P because for rooting you only need the superuser.
Download the file here: rooting File
How to :
1. Download the zip and place it on your SD Card.
PS : SD Card is a must.
2. Reboot to the stock recovery.
3. Select install update from external storage.
4. Select the root.zip file.
5. Voila
Enjoy your rooted JB.
Hope i could help you

TWRP can copy error logs to your sdcard. If you do so, you can see the exact error in your zip files.
My guess is that your zip files were re-compressed using some 3rd party software like WinZip/WinRAR, or maybe the build-in Windows zip compressor. Hence these are probably missing something in the zip file-header that TWRP is looking for.
I faced a similar issue when I used the WindowsXP built in zip compressor. I would advice you to unzip your files, and re-zip them using Info-Zip.
http://www.info-zip.org/
I was able to flash my zip files after I re-compressed them using the command line zip tools from Info-Zip.
