Hi everyone !
I am planning to buy a 7" tablet on this beginning on 2012 (HNY).
My usage for a 7" will be essentially Internet, GPS, and some Games.
Now that it has Honeycomb, i am preferring the HTC Flyer over the Acer Iconia Tab A100,
Cause the Flyer got a better design, better screen, and moar storage (despite the fact that the Acer is more powerful with the Tegra 2).
The prices for the HTC Flyer here in France are 299€ for the 16GB WIFI Only and 380-400€ for the 32GB WIFI+3G.
So my questions are :
_ Does the Flyer worth that money ?
_ Will the Flyer become obsolete soon cause of it's Single Core CPU or it stills have good time to live ?
_ Does it worth to wait for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus which is more expansive than the Flyer ?
Thank you for your answers
I am in India and a bought 3g+WiFi model for $400 ( euro 300 ) with scribe pen. In us also it was sold dirt cheap recently at bestbuy. The price in your country seems to a bit high.
Though its a very good tablet, I would say look for it for about at euro 300 for a 3g version. Then you can't go wrong.

1. around the same price as in australia...i had a wifi only tablet and it turned out to be pretty useless to me, so i 'upgraded' my 10" transformer to the 7" flyer...if you can afford the 3G version, get it
2. best purchase ever...i love it
3. all devices are obsolete within 6 months of being released
4. lol @ samsung...noooo comparison between HTC and samsung devices, i don't care what the specs say! and do you mean expAnsive, as in better, or expEnsive, as in it costs more? (doesn't matter really, my answer is still the same)

That's pricing for you in Europe, we always pay more than the rest of the world (except Australia...)
And €300 for a 3G version, I think you'd have to look second-hand, and even then I think it'll be difficult.
For the OP: I have a 16GB Wifi-only. And I was also first thinking about the Acer, but they took too long to come to market here. In the end, I just couldn't wait and shelved out a bit more (I paid a total of around €350, and that included two silicon protectors, a folder case, a screenprotector and a car charger) and I've been very happy ever since. Even with GB (which, I must admit, now that I have HC, I still like better... But for the pen-support in HC, I'd go back).
Edit:
oh and about 3G vs wifi-only: 3G is no use to me, as I don't want to pay premium for a 3G subscription or data-plan... I like my very cheap call/text subscription...

Seriously, the price is way too high.. 600 dollars is the most I'd pay for a tablet. How many here actually bought it?
If they release it internationally, I would. Sans the contract, of course. The pricing is not too far off the 32GB iPad 2 3G, but the Jetstream has the pen AND SD slot. If this ever comes out WiFi only, I'm sure to get it.
The only real problem I see is the contract pricing from AT&T. Thats way too high for a 2-year contract.

I'm seriously contemplating it...
$699 for a 32 gig tab is more than any other Android tab out there but considering it is expandable up to as large an SD card as you want to put in it... 32g more at this point and it comes with the pen right now which is an $80 accessory.... not that bad. Also when you compare it to the same size iPad2 it is actually less money by $30 and $130 less than the 64g iPad2. I already pay $50 a month for an unlimited aircard so downgrading and then pimping off my Android phone for additional airtime when not on wifi will take care of that.

I agree with you.... I had a Dell Streak 7 and an iPad WiFi + 3G 64GB. I sold both of them and got this tablet and I haven't looked back. I love it, just needs to be rooted. I was paying $25 for the 2GB iPad plan, changed it to the $35 3GB plan - service discount = $28 and change. so for a few bucks more a month it was worth it.
- Dan
It's only $50 more than the 32GB GT 10.1 LTE on VZW and AT&T's data plan is cheaper. The GT 3G I'm importing from the UK is actually more expensive. They all get pricy once you include a data connection.
Yep,despite all the hype that it was outrageously pricey, I didn't see a glaringly high difference than the iPad 2 in price, and I like the way it feels.
I would like to see it rooted and get a decent case for it, though....
Its a sweet tab. I bought it, love it. Price wasn't an issue as the jetstream has all the features I want. This is much better than the iPad
I wont pay that much for it, specially because I don't use the internal connection..
I like it but I'll wait for a wifi only version, or for att finally realize is to expensive and decrease the price..
It's funny to me so many sites, people, articles, etc...getting stuck on the price. Yes, it's expensive! It's almost the same price as the Xoom was, and the ipad 2 (depending on type and version of course).
I'm very impressed thus far with the quality of this tablet and what it offers for me. This is an extremely better buy (for the $ spent) then ipad, Xoom, Acer, etc in my opinion.

i wanted one but just picked up a Transformer a few minutes ago for $390 @ Best Buy. I couldn't justify the extra 300 when i could get another Transformer for almost the difference.
Jetstream
Bought, love it....not worried about the price.
Have been an IPAD user since it came out....love it but really cant do anything with it except surf the web and look at some photos.
The Jetstream is expensive but when I looked at the 64gb Ipad @ we were in the same ballpark and it lack many of the features I wanted.
PLUS, it's just like my phone. Not sure if anyone has really mentioned this advantage but it's very familiar to my rooted inspire running RC mix Kingdom 3d...
I love knowing how to use the thing out of the box...
Now, I just need to figure out how to get on my VPN at work!
You can get the Jetstream for $549 with a 2 year contract!
I ordered mine last week from AT&T. When you order the 3Gig LTE Data plan with a 2 year commitment you get the Jetstream for $549.00 before tax.

That is nice hut how you did it because I was seeing to order it online without contract and it says the prices mentioned before and it even obligate you to get a data plan?
Does the means that I could get it no contract for $699? If so, i am in.
I already bought an HTC Flyer earlier this year, which is $499 for a 16 GB, 7" tablet, plus $80 for the pen. I'm quite happy with it. If not for already owning the Flyer, I would seriously consider the Jetstream. But I'm not sure if I would get the data plan, or buy it at full retail price (and use it as a WiFi-only device).
Obviously, what you feel about the price depends a whole lot on your financial situation and personal budget. For me, spending a couple extra hundred bucks for something I really want is reasonable. I have a personal soft spot for HTC devices. For me, devices made by other manufacturers really tend to not compare to HTC's build quality. For that, I would happily pay extra. That's the philosophy I had when buying the Flyer. There are plenty of cheaper 7" tablets around. But its not necessarily a good "value" if you save some money on a tablet, but don't really like the device you bought. But of course, a lot of this depends on personal preferences, as well.
And yes, I don't even own this device, but I'm still poking around this subforum out of envy!
Hey guys I'm seriously considering purchasing it but I live in India but that can be taken care of as the US mail forwarding service I use also has a BuyForMe sub-service where they buy the product for me... but in this case since at&t requires a SSN for the compulsory cancel-anytime data plan with the no-contract offering of this tablet, I'm having a tough time getting my hands on this awesome-elegant HTC
tab. So my questions are-
1) Will the developer community at any point in time work on getting it SIM unlocked? Or is it better to wait for a version that will not be bound to AT&T?
2) If any of my dear fellow members will be so kind so as help me somehow (read: above) with getting my hands on this beauty? Can you use a friends' SSN to buy a thing for yourself?

Honestly I didnt find a fair reason to spend $350 more for the htc, plusethe GT is lighterand thin.

Nice to be an american with AT&T LTE dataplan! In russia this thing will cost at least 2000$ (after a couple of weeks of sales) and will be available in 4-6 months...
If anyone can help me with a little explanation, on how to actually buy it without dataplan (since no commitment also includes some kind of plan) and registration, i would really appreciate.
Several things this device lacks at the moment - SIM unlock, voice calls capability and S-OFF...
Give it a.little time Grayhardt.

This device is definitely worth every penny even at those prices.
Pretty sure Best Buy should have dropped them down to compete with the Nook and Kindle even though this Tablet is soo much better.
I'm glad I upgraded from the Original Nook Color.

This wonderful tablet is a victim of marketing.
Dual core craze is all the rage. I opted to pay 50$ more over the nook tab because I know the 1.5 single core provided a lot of competition for anything you want on a tablet...
This tablet is a hidden gem and it is a shame to see it discontinued. I had to jump through hoops for mine though.
RIP Flyer. This tablet is the only tablet that plays Yoo Ninja without lag.
Their are many Android tablets but their is only one HTC Flyer. Don't despair HTC is going to release a tegra 3 based tablet with the HTC Scribe tech in it

Pardon my ignorance here but "discontinued" does not mean that HTC has officially dropped support for the tablet? It only means that Best Buy is not selling it anymore?
I think it's because T-Mobile and Sprint are selling their Versions of this Tablet. I I got the one from Sprint (HTC EVO View 4G), and waiting for my E-Bat purchase to get here. I Got it for $274 and Free Shipping. I Should have it by Sat. WorstBuy ONLY cares about the Apple products and 10" Android Tablets.
I also think once the Nook Tablet and Kindle Fire came out they decided against ANOTHER 7" Device. Plus the still sell the Playbook (which I Have too). The HTC EVO View just got Honeycomb as well within the last couple of days.
Can't US citizens still buy it from european stores that ship to the US anyway?
I didn't realize it was discontinued, I guess that explains the $299 price I saw at BBY today. I am on the fence between the Flyer vs Nook Tablet. I know dual-core vs single core and honestly what I want is a well rounded tablet that can web, game, read .pdf magazines etc.
So IS the Flyer still worth the money, I ask that not because its discontinued, but because I want the honest opinions.
The best part of my BBY visit was the employee telling a customer that the iPad has the easiest OS to use and he was looking at the kindle fire. I spoke up, gave my .02 since I have owned about 9 phones this year including (1) BBOS 7, (1) WP7, (1) iOS and about (7) Android phones, so yeah I prefer Android but had to check out the other parts of the OS world.

Buy the HTC Flyer it performs like a Champ. I can honestly say it one of the beast pieces of technology I have bought in a long time. Also get the scribe pen if you can it is a great addition.
The discontinuation is worldwide. Currys/PC World here in the UK (like BestBuy) reduced their stock for the 32GB Wi-Fi to £199 ($320) here & are mostly sold out, Three the mobile network are giving you it for £99 ($160) with 15GB of data for £20 ($32) a month while T-Mobile UK are giving it away for free for £20 ($32) a month for 2GB of data...
I went back to BBY and none of the local stores actually have them, the one store did have a display model which he agreed was stupid if they don't have any to sell.
I wouldn't mind a 32GB UK version if I could get one, so now that I ready the US version has a microsd slot, where exactly is it. The BBY employee was clueless about it. Do any BBY stores have these still?
I tried to look for one but I couldn't find one. Should of pick one up when I had a chance. Oh well.

eBay seems to be the only place to find them now. Unless of course you pop over to www.mobilecityonline.com they have a 32GB 3G/WiFi model for 394.99, it's an open box return but still not bad.
The WiFi only model is still around $450+ in the few places I could find them online and for that money I can get a Asus Transformer.
Believe it or not I bought a Best Buy Flyer for 210.00 all in
One of the best online purchases Ive come across
I'm one of the lucky ones I guess
So I got a Nook Tablet.... Seems pretty useless to spend $250 on a pseudo-tablet with out the extras like camera, gps, etc. So I'm returning it and found the htc flyer to be a decent device in the same range but with the extras.
Initial reviews show the main downside was cost but I figure now it would be selling cheaper as its a bit dated. To my amazement, most htc flyers are selling 16GB used for $330+ on ebay.
By chance I decided to search for the Evo View 4G as its pretty much the same thing, just Sprint branded. Somehow they are selling 32GB for $289 Brand new and sealed with no contract?!
How is that possible?
Used 16GB - Flyer Wifi only - $330
New 32GB - Evo View Wifi with optional 4G - $289
Am I missing something? Even if you don't have Sprint or want 4G... the 32GB wifi only part is a hell of a better deal.
I feel like I'm missing something here but can't see anything. The specs are the same for everything else.
It's because there have been several sales online since the end of November that have had the EVO View priced at $230-$250 brand new with no contract. The Flyer hasn't seen sale prices that low from several places like the View. Because of that, there are more of the View out there on the secondary market at a lower price point.
happy to see a nook tablet owner in this forum even though you're returning it. I can't return mine as it was donated as a development unit.
I bought mine for $240. And then the next week it was selling for $220 somewhere else. I was like

I would be more then happy to pick one up for $240 right now...You still got a good deal.
I also picked it up for $240 from 1saleaday on eBay. Best thing to do is keep an eye out on techbargains.com or dealnews.com or fatwallet... They usually list when these go up cheap. Amazon has the pen for $60.00.... so 32gb with pen for $300 works, it's pretty fast, honeycomb is nice but they could have provided a better option for the capacitive(sp) buttons.
Other than that, I don't want to root or play around with anything so I opted to pay $29.99 for a one time service (one week, 500mb) figure it'd be a good way to test and see if I want mobile network service too. There are pre-paid plans as low as $14.99 though.
I think a lot less people know about the View so the demand is less. There is also confusion over the name, I have purchased 2 different charging cables that said they for the HTC Evo View 4g but neither were, I guess they were for the HTC Evo 4g.
I was looking at the Nook Tablet, but once I read about the locked bootloader and started comparing it to the other 7" tablets it just wasn't worth it, for me anyways. So I noticed the HTC Flyer and felt the $299 was fair enough, but of course BBY doesn't sell it and my local stores don't have them in stock but they STILL have a display unit out. Idiots!!!!
So I went to eBay and as another member here noticed the prices for HTC Flyers were $300+ for new and I happily found an Evo View for $289 NIB and got that. Now I know that I need to root and tweak a bit (boot script to kill off the 3G/4G radios on bootup) but I would rather have the extra memory AND black color vs the BBY version.
Definitely check out the View its worth it.

I guess one could say that a lack of demand is the indirect reason for the current price difference the OP is seeing on eBay. The reason for the current price difference is all of the cheap sales that the View had during the month of December. But one would assume that the reason for the sales during the month of December was a lack of demand for the tablet through Sprint.
It's interesting that everyone keeps speculating on why such a price difference exists when there isn't any need for speculation - it's because the View was sold in several sales last month for $230-$250 brand new with no contract. The Flyer hasn't been sold that cheaply. People bought extras of the View and are turning a small profit on the secondary market at a price where the demand exists.

Yeah, but those were open box/refurbished. And the important part here is that was only one sale from one company. The View was sold by several different companies on several different dates throughout December, as I pointed out in my first post in this thread. And I'm sure there weren't many of the Flyers available in that sale. There were thousands of the View for the multiple sales it saw. If the Flyer had been available that cheaply from several sources on multiple occasions, it would definitely be going for a cheaper price than the View is right now on the secondary market.
But that was definitely a good price on the Flyer.
I had a Nook Color and I have to say I like the view better. It does have the same yellowish panel as the NC. I'm liking HC on it. HCis not perfect and has some annoyances but performance wise it does seem an improvement over GB.
If only Sprints network was better in my area.

The important part overall for those who got in on the deal? Yes.
The important part as it pertains to the answer that the OP is looking for about the current price difference between the two? No.

I'm not answering to the OP though - I'm simply answering with a direct quotation to your comment :

The Flyer hasn't been sold that cheaply. People bought extras of the View and are turning a small profit on the secondary market at a price where the demand exists.

The Flyer was available for sale cheaper than the View (to my knowledge) end of story
How much is a used, refurbished or open box View going for then?
I'd wager that most folks wouldn't have considered a Flyer or View due to the original pricing which was a bit too high (in my estimation at least) for a 7" tablet.
I just bought a HTC Flyer for 240 on craigslist. Although I know I got lucky because most add were from 280 to 330. But I think I have the European flyer. Is there any differences?

I'm just glad I could get the Evo View for less than the HTC Flyer NIB, unopened and found great ROM's to get past the HTC Sense.
Hello guys and girls.
I was browsing today checking somethings on Amazon and I saw the Asus Transformer Prime 64 GB is almost 200$ more expensive than 1 month ago. I know Asus said they revised the Prime due Wifi, GPS, Bluetooth, 1080p screen and 3G, and it would get 100$ more expensive.
My question is: they replaced the problematic Primes from stores and replaced them by the revised ones? If yes, the only way I get the old one (I barrely use Bluetooth, 720p screen is enough for me, I will never use GPS, I have enough signal of Wifi from the places I will use it and I think my mom won't pay 20$ (it's quite expensive in my country, this price) for the tablet 3G plan (or I will be able to use my micro SIM from my phone on it?)) is by eBay?
Sorry for the confusing post.
They is no new model prime out now. The one you describe is the tf-700. A minor upgrade to current prime. It won't be out till June at the earliest. There is no "old" prime. Lol. And there is no 3gbp version out now and the tf-700 is not 3g also.
I'd say go out n get the Prime. Its still a brand new device n not even widely available yet due to such high demands of it. Its the most sought after tablet since its the most powerful, having a tegra3 and best display of any tablet out today. Its a great device. Just read the "positive transformer prime" thread in my signature.
Oh, thanks for the info. I am saying this because, in mid December, the 64 GB was 600$ on Amazon. I was browsing today and it's 800$. Some error of them? Or it's right?
I am just confused, what was reviewed and already on the market? I was looking at here almost since it's announcement, but I will only be able to buy it in March or April.
Thanks again.
The 32gb should be available everywhere online for $499 American money. The 64gb are harder to come by n those I believe are $599. I'm not sure if its available in your country et but you could always order from online. Not sure why the price hike but some places around the world its actually costs more than American version if you convert price from that country to American money. THE current Transformer Prime is available now though. That's the one you want to look for. Transformer Prime
Ah, thanks, I got it. It's impossible to buy eletronics in Brazil. a 32 GB version costs between 1000 and 1500 american dolars. Ps Vita will cost 800 american dolars, Wifi only. Taxes are way to high. Well, I think I will buy the 32 Gb version tough... How many movies and series + music + game data + Android stuff did you managed to fit in it?
Most likely what you're seeing are people who have already bought it, and are turning around and reselling it at a higher price. Once amazon gets more in stock, they should have them priced at msrp ($499/32gb $599/64gb).
how much would it go for now that i got it just curious its pretty clean no scratches just finger prints that can be wiped off is rooted but i can go back just wondering im curious

Not bad. Seems to be around 275-325 range. So basically u lost 25% right now.
Bear in mind that they are also available from PC World (UK) for £299 new
The 32Gb ones are "only" £380

Even now that we have ics no luck to sell!
Try one of the tablet selling websites like sell-my-tablet.com. You can usually get a pretty good price on these types of sites, especially if it's a tablet which doesn't fetch much interest on eBay.
sold my 32GB tablet S for 275,- euro in Holland via a dutch marketplace site.
Before I had an iPad 1 and bought about 100 apps for it, after about 4 month's of Android I still missed a lot of my old apps.
for example: Plants vs Zombie's was not official available in the dutch playstore and as I am from Holland, I'm also not able to buy apps from Amazon, for the iPad I allready bought the same app more then half a year ago...
So after a while I was only doing some web-browsing on the tablet S and was still frustrated about the strange power supply connection.
