Because it's ROOTED, has great devs building stable ROMs, and killer KERNELS!!!! Seriously, side by side, the Nexus is that much faster....
Don't get me wrong, I love the Prime and I'm not sending it back, but keep up the spam campaign for an unlocked bootloader.

No, because it has good software running on it. Besides that the Prime runs still HC oposing to Nexus' ICS, the Prime's HC build is just crap. It's not well optimized at all. Even some Tegra 2 devices with HC are faster.

Are you serious that asus actually encrypted the bootloader on this? It doesn't even have 3G and isn't tied to a carrier. I can understand locking it but encrypting it is stupid. I always thought the carriers wanted these devices locked down. Every day I am seeing new reasons not to get this...
Yep 128 bitAES encryption! It's crazy
We have nvflash for Tegra 3 but the then found out the bootloader is encrypted
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk
LOL! No ****. they encrypted the boot loader!?
Wow.. Asus seems to be hitting a high-note with their perpetual **** ups.
Asus moved oficial facebook fan page to http://www.facebook.com/asus.n.america?sk=wall
Lets spam this... I dont want my TF Prime if bootloader still be locked...
Wysłane z mojego Transformer Prime TF201 za pomocą Tapatalk
Curious,
Besides protecting ASUS from warrantying hacked devices, is there an end user benefit of an encrypted bootloader. Like more data security for the tablet user, say in a public WIFI... or is there no relation between the two.. and no end user benefit...?
Thanks
The easiest way to get them to unlock the bootloader is to get everyone on here to return their primes, if they get hundreds of returns just because of a locked boot loader I have a feeling they will unlock it pretty fast.
I have to say it would be pretty cool if we got a ton of people to return their primes on the same day and announce to Asus that we are returning them because of the locked boot loader.

I can see why we want to customize the kernel and flash a custom rom on some tablets/phones, but I don't see the need to do it on this device. It the most solid stock build of a rom that I have seen. It has power customization in the navbar (what we like from many custom roms) and it has great batterylife. It is stock Honeycomb (soon ICS) with ASUS customizations that don't slow it down. Also rooting has nothing to do with the kernel, because every locked/encrypted device has it (except for this), because we are waiting for ICS before going away from the OTA path. Anyways, I will still support the kernel unlock since it is kind of silly to be locked (since it isn't with a wireless carrier).
Yeeaaaaaahhhhhh! We gonna drop twitter bombs on asus till they cave in!!!

So I just returned my prime to best buy because of some minor problems. If they had one to exchange I probably wouldn't be making this post. But now that they aren't really in stock anywhere I may just wait for the iPad 3. Now I'm really not trying to troll or anything but do you guys think I should wait? Or just tell me I'm being stupid and should come to my senses.
After using an Android tablet and then going back to an iPad 2, I hated how limited it felt in comparison.

You're being stupid and should come to your senses.
Considering you said you returned it for minor issues, I wouldn't get another one.

But then he will need to wait another 4-6 months.. I don't think he is going to do that if he is considering an iPad 3 which comes out earlier anyway.

Exactly. There is no comparison between Android tablet and iPad. One is for grown ups, while other is for kids who do not know any better or for people who think that getting "BT Transfer" in latest OS update is the latest feature in mobile world

There should be quite a few 1080p tabs to choose from in the coming months.
Ive got a Prime also and far from impressed main issue for me is poor wifi which is useless for my intended use of travelling.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk
how about you act like an adult and make a decision?
i'm getting really tired of this "living by comittee" lifestyle that people are starting to adopt.
purchasing something as frivalous as a tablet comes down to a very unique (to the purchaser/user) set of critera as to what they should buy and what they consider value for their dollar.
if there were still any hidden mysteries as to what this particular tablet brings (in both the good and bad) to the table, i would be more compassionate towards the question of the OP, but the pros and cons of this tablet have been discussed ad nauseam on this forum, if one cannot make up their mind at this point on their own by reading, then no one can help them.

Which? Tell me. It will really take some time before they are actually available in the stores. And if you want some quality tablet you would not want to go with Acer. Lenovo is overpriced. Samsung, Asus, Apple are the one's who make the best tablets in my eyes.
And no, I don't had any of those WiFi/GPS/BT issue's with my Prime so I also put Asus there because with my tablet it was very solid build, had a good feel etc. etc. Same for the TF101.
I had to return mine to best buy because it was stuck in the ICS rebooting loop. I just ordered another one today from office dept. If ICS and wifi work and there are no screen issues I'm keeping it.

Absolutely correct. There is definitely a reason business, major medical institutions, educational institutions and the U.S. military have contracts in place with Apple.

Somehow I doubt a lot would regret waiting the few months for one that does get addressed properly compared to the one that doesn't due to its design.
I dont care if you return it,keep it or get something else. Im sick of dumb posts like this cluttering up the forum.

I have an iPad 2 and I don't mind the lack of customization to be honest. I kinda like the feel of ios.
So I received my Transformer Prime today and am having wifi issues (very poor connection strength). Also, I have a group of very bright pixels on the screen.
I know there is a new Transformer tablet in the works that has significantly better specs...so I'd be best to wait. In the meantime, I found a mint TF101 with docking keyboard for $350. Everything checks out and it seems like a great package for the price. This coupled with ICS arriving in two weeks for the TF101 makes it a reasonable decision to return the defective Prime and get this original TF101 w/keyboard.
Is this a good move? I've never owned the original Transformer and hope that it is plenty fast to play flash content. Anyone care to offer a POV on this decision?
I plan on getting the newer Transformer in Q2 when it's rumored to release.

I have both and the OG TP is pretty damn laggy even with a 1.65 OC.
That + the random reboots and freezes makes in a no go for me.
I did it and am happy with my decision. Wifi is crazy strong and the device is plenty fast.
Wake me up when the new Transformer is released. The Prime isn't ready for prime time IMO.

Starting to see a lot more sites giving the prime the recognition it deserves, seems to be holding up fairly well compared to the pad which shall not be named.
Personally i love my prime and its ease of customization.

Yeah for sure. Also once these new socs come out and fall short of their performance and or their power goals then prime or infinity will really take off.
The funny thing is it won't really matter who has higher performance as much as who has more optimized software. Nvidia should definitely be trying to gain as much ground as possible when it comes to getting optimized software.

True.
I would think Nvidia should know more about the need to optimize more than just about anyone considering their history/track record with video chipsets and drivers.

I would go with Samsung and their Note tablet if you can wait they seem to have their products running pretty good (Galaxy S3) with their hardware and software, and they have good development here for their devices. I wish the Samsung Note Tablet with their CPU and hardware was out when I was deciding what to spend my $650 on.
I would wait before purchasing an Asus tablet again and see if they can fix their I/O performance problems if I were you. The Prime, Nexus 7, TF700, yeah they look nice but looks can be very deceiving as we know (Example= Prime).
IF Asus ever gets the I/O problems fixed then the TF700 or the Nexus 7 could be good choices. I wouldn't buy anything from Asus (Tablets) until you see if they can fix their current issues because if they cant fix the Primes performance they wont fix the TF700 of Nexus 7.
As an owner of the Prime I feel we were basically beta testers for the TF700. I refuse to recommend any Asus tablets after being used as a beta tester they got me once but not going to happen again. The bad part is I had to pay $650 to be beta tester!
Tablets are suppose to be a fun enjoyable experience not as frustrating as its been with the prime, we keep hearing they got an update coming out that's going to fix all the issues, but every time we get an update it does not deliver!

I doubt it. the rear camera was cut out to save on costs. Even without rear camera, its a great deal.
There is a slight chance that down the road, once manufacturing costs drop for this device, they "Might" release a revised version with rear cam. I doubt it though. never say never though

I would wait to see what Samsung is bringing next. If Samsung's next top tier tab comes with a Exynos 5250 it will be far superior to any Tegra powered device. But for $200 a Nexus 7 would be a great buy even if you end iPhone getting a 10" down the road. I bought a GTab 2 7" and think I like the size better than 10".
