Hi guys I read that a lot of people were not happy with the volume of their Nook Tablet. Well when I started netflix and played a movie I saw what people meant. It is pretty bad. Anyways I rooted and blocked OTA's yesterday (Very excited)! So I installed spotify (IDK why with the volume being bad lol) for sh*ts and gigs and played one of my saved songs. It was LOUD. I have no idea why but it was, and Im not exaggerating at least double the output in sound at the max. Im wondering if maybe somehow BN puts a hardware capper or blocker on the onboard sound so it cannot reach it's maximum potential? I couldn't believe how loud my music was playing and was very happy with it! I went back to Netflix and tried a movie and still got same result. Also when I play music with default music players (BN) it's really low sounding. Wondering if anyone knew about this or could possibly tell me more...maybe where I can find something that plays movies louder? Thanks for any responses!
Since I don't have any stock B&N app, so I can't tell why the volume would behave differently. But there are apps on the market that can modify the threshold for you. One came to mind is Volume+. It's pretty neat.
sweet ill check it out i appreciate it

I use Volume+ http://androidaudiohacks.com/?page_id=16
My hearing is a bit weak so I set mine to +5 (range is 0 to +15), and it works great for me. Just did multiple plane rides over the holidays and watched movies without a problem.
wow i cant thank you enough! Pandora and Netflix are louder than ever now! Im using +5 too

Hi I just got my thunderbolt on the 21st. Ever since, the volume on the back speakers are really low. Everytime I play music it sounds like its halfway. But its on full. Even on YouTube.
I've been told there's a "hearing aid" option in the settings that will drastically boost the volume of anything that comes out of the speaker. This may help you out.
Though I just looked, and it's under the "Call" settings. Seems to only affect in-call volume, but it still may be worth a try.
mine has no problem... I usually have to turn it down... might be the video you are playing... but I assure you mine is 4x louder than any other phone (iphone, evo, incredible)
people usually ask to use my phone to watch videos on break so everyone can hear it
Oh well .my Eris was louder. I'll try some other media players. Thanks
My first TBolt was so quiet I could barely hear anything too. I exchanged it and my new one is much louder.

yeah my TBolt is like twice as loud as my evo 4g was.
I remember setting the notification tone, and not listening to it, but hitting ok right away and when it went off scared the crap outta me.
Ive been searching this forum for three days, and a couple nights, but it just isn't coming together for me...
So here's the issue I'm having: most of my favorite movies are over 1g, no big deal storage wise, but I'm getting some lag issues in moboplayer. qqplayer and the other recommended players don't seem to recognize my .nomedia file on sdcard2. I'm using handbrake to convert. Have tried mp4 and h.264 and the latter seems to work the best for me on ipad and normal presets. Switched from vegan Ginger to vegan 5.1.1 with pershoots kernel, still got no love from anything other than mobo and anything over 800mb gets choppy with soft or hard decoding (soft seems to be working best btw). I did the fps tweak and am scoring around 71 in fps2d. Don't know that it would matter for movies but it couldn't hurt to try. I think that about covers it. Saw some suggestions for changing settings in handbrake but after reading them and comparing to my handebrake ui, it just didn't make sense to me. Currently running vegan 5.1.1, pershoots kernel and fps tweak. I've read where people have said they were running movies flawlessly, to what am I missing here (bet its something easy)? Help a guy out please.
Also, please don't take this wrong, but a "simply search and you will find..." response isn't necessary. Believe me when I tell you I been wearing search function out....
Gracias in advance.
SGT
Handbrake settings that work for me (no lag, no skips, no studder):
video: mpeg4
audio: AAC 160kbps
container: m4v
resolution: whatever X 1024 (to keep aspect ratio correct) if coming from greater than 1024 vertical lines, otherwise leave resolution alone and let player do the up-scaling.
Tune the file size to what whatever quality you think looks acceptable.
This is why I recommend one of the TnT based roms (for example calkulin's rom) instead of vegan for most people. With vegan, you really have to do a little tweakings of your own to get things to run smoothly.
I was using vegan before and started noticing I was spending more time than I wanted to tweaking things. Nowadays, I'm using calkulin's very fast rom. No tweakings needed.
Thanks for the quick replies. Will check out the settings again, if I still don't get it then ill check out tnt or caulkins rom
So thanks for the above responses. Jacked with the settings for an hour or 2 and couldn't get a decent copy so I switched over to caulkulins rom and the video is finally working out. Only issue I'm having is the volume is ridiculously low. Can hear okay at home with a pair of bose headphones, so its doable for now, but def wouldn't work on any type of travel with background noise, I.e. airplane... will search for a fix but any suggestion would be appreciated.

I've read that elsewhere as well, but mine went in the completely opposite direction. I dunno. Still looking for a solution

Wish it was that easy. It only seems to be happening when playing movies. Web browsing/flash volume is fine. Makes me wonder if its something with the encoding...still searching...
So turns out its something with moboplayer. I dled rockplayer light and the volume was fine but I really didn't want to pay 10 dollars for a media play so I checked out soul player and everything is working nicely so far. Unfortantely, the ui isnt as nice on soul as it is on mobo/rockplayer, but my video is great and my volume is decent. Only thing is I have to set the volume prior to entering the player. And if I mess with the volume while in the player then it immediately returns to barely audible. Oh well, at least its working...
Use RockPlayer. I'm on vegan 5.1.1 and regularly watch videos that are around 3gigs and never have the slightest stutter in frame rate, or audio

I'm on VEGAn 5.1.1 and my volume is to low too. I tried to watch a movie on the plane and gave up on it, and I had headphones. I think it's my tab. I can't explain it otherwise. It was low from day one.
Ive been using my Rezound to play music through my car stereo via the AUX input and it had been doing well until now....
I just went shopping and started listening to music & the mid's/high's sounded kind of washed out and there was practically no bass coming from any of my subs. I double-checked the settings on the phone as well as on my deck but everything seemed normal.
I decided to plug in my old mp3 player to see if it still did the same thing... but no, music is playing just fine with the mp3 player. So, I plugged the phone back in and it got all fu**ed up again. I tried rebooting and its still doing the same thing.
damn you HTC and Dre!!!...
I had something similar happen the other day and found out that I didn't have the headphones plugged into the jack all the way so the contacts weren't fully connected. Might be worth checking just in case.
humorous response.
its being "weird" even with headphones now. well, now when I exchange it I can bring up the dead pixel and the audio issue. I guess I just got a bad unit.
i thought you were exhcanging this phone weeks ago and hated it or soemthing? lol

well was going to exchange it after the dead pixel yeah... my 30 days with Best Buy Mobile isn't up till the 17th so just figured i'd wait until then & get a fresh new phone again.
and no I don't hate it(how can I when its the best currently available). I'm just anxiously awaiting root as I can't stand phones stock(want to be able to add/remove whatever I want, complete customization).
I still don't know what happened to the Beats on mine... really bizarre that while Beats is enabled its doing that through AUX and headphones. I did use one of those automated temp roots recently though and noticed it gave me some random FC's. the battery died this morning though and seems to have gone back to 'normal'.
p.s. I've actually been using the camera like crazy(especially the panoramas). very disappointed about GN's 5MP.
*UPDATE*: I decided to try again today and Beats is still messed up... So, I then tried POWERAMP and music is playing normally through that... as is the Digitally Imported app. So whatever is wrong is just with Beats. (force stop, clear data & reboot haven't fixed it either)
Is anyone else having anything weird happen just to the Beats Music app?
When you did temp root, you didn't freeze music enhancer did you?
Did you try a factory reset??
It makes sense that PowerAmp works as beats doesn't work at all with that app.
I have PA installed also because I have a $400 pair of Ultimate Ears earbuds that I can easily make sound exactly like the beats sound, but I need the EQ settings from PA to do it.

no i did not.. but am thinking about temp rooting again & removing the app, then powering down to get out of temp root & have it auto load the app back again. i will try that later on.
Hi,
I have just switched from an iPhone 4 to SGSIII. When going to sleep I like to listen to tune in radio. The only problem I am finding is that on the lowest volume notch using the volume keys is still too loud for me.
Is there anyway to lower this further?
I totally second this.. I am coming from an age old HTC G1, and i loved how i could have it SO quiet, that i could hold the phone up to my ear at night (the speaker phone side, not the talking side) and hear it just fine but a person laying next to me in bed couldn't tell i was listening to anything.. but with the Gs3 its so loud even at the lowest setting possible that at 4-5 feet away you can hear it.
Not to mention the text alert sound is too loud when I have it at the lowest setting.. On the G1 i could turn it down to the lowest setting and it was quiet enough that if you listened for it you could hear it in a quiet room, but if you weren't listening for it you'd miss it. wish the Gs3 had a little finer tuning on the quieter end
I do that too a lot and the only solution I found so far (sgs2) is to use apps like PlayerPro/PowerAmp for mp3s and XiiaLive for internet radios because they have internal volume control on top of androids one. Gets the volume so low that even at night with in-ear-canal headphones I can barely hear the audio. Not that I do that but still, it's nice to have control of the volume so much.

Poweramp is the only solution I have found but I really like Tunein and that does not have any control. There must be a simple system wide solution. My device is rooted so are there any options?

I'm resurrecting this old thread. I too would love to be able to turn down the volume to as low of a setting as I want. I don't understand why the phone manufacturers don't simply provide that capability!
There is another post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565559 on a technique for the HTC One. I haven't tried it on the S4 yet.

Hi
I have just bought the Parrot Ziks, (gosh are they expensive :s)
However i have noticed that the bluetooth functions take a very long time to take affect.
For example, when I pause the music it what feels like a long time to actually pause the music.
Is there a way of speeding it up from the phone?
**EDIT**
btw. I'm using PowerAmp
Sorry I can't give you an answer yet!!. I ordered mine today. Can you give any comments on the headphones as a whole? Particularly sojnd quality, the weight and comfort. Thanks.
And they were expensive!! A birthday present so I got lucky.
the headphones themselves are awesome. the sound quality is superb and they feel very comfortable..
even after hours of listening my ears don't hurt, which is my problem with on-ears headphones.
battery life lasts me about 12h which is more than enough to get me through 3 days of listening (way to work and back)
i hope you'll find them as good as I do..
have fun

So I got my pair of Ziks yesterday. Truly amazing headphones. I can honestly say that the sensors are working great for me and the reaction time for pausing, skipping songs, volume up and down are virtually instantaneous for me.
It did take 30 seconds for them to connect to my phone. Which was a while compared to the first time which was like 2 seconds.
All in all.. I am beyond satisfied and with the purchase. Viper sound mod and all the studio irs settings just make these sound even better!!
Btw.. Thanks for the feedback!!
