Its only been 2 weeks since I got my S3 and I am facing too many problems.
1. The touch screen was super smooth and responsive for the first week but that has changed. Its been a week since I am facing a strange problem where my S3 screen becomes sticky, causing too much friction between my fingers and the screen and making the phone unusable. I have tried cleaning the screen with a microfiber cloth. The screen becomes smooth for a minute or two after cleaning but goes back to being sticky. If I put the phone to sleep and look at the display under bright light, I can see a lot of smudges on the screen that almost look like scratches. Although, cleaning the screen with the microfiber makes the smudges and scratches go away.
2. The back case on the S3 has already got scratches even though I use it with a lot of care. I always keep the microfiber cloth below my S3 when I place it on a surface. The only time my S3 is unprotected is when it is in my pocket. I always face the screen of my S3 inwards. The insides of my pockets are made of soft cloth so I don't see how they can cause any scratches. I always thought the S3 would have a scratch resistant back cover. Something like the one on S2.
3. The battery life on my S3 is very low. I charge my phone to 100 percent and I never charge it until the battery is as low as 1 % allowing the battery to discharge completely. Even then, I find myself running for the charger every 6 - 8 hours.
I am feeling a little disappointed since I expected the S3 to be a phone with solid build quality. Has anyone face the sticky touch screen problem on any of their phones? I desperately need a solution since the touch screen is the only way I can interact with the phone.
I have no such Indies with my device.

You're the only one then. I've had my phone since 25th MAY. My LG O3D required twice charging in a day and SIII with more apps / widgets running requires charge after 24 hours on average use.

I can defintly confirm the Scratches on the back, well mine are like little tiny dots, the white on the front of the phone is clearly a different material to the back very poor.
The way i see it is the back is replaceable and i'm awaiting a case anyway, but for people not wanting to use cases the back at this rate will be black by time contracts run out!
I'm starting to have an issue when i lose all sounds until about 1min it sorts itself out, i hope this is just a bug which can be fixed and not some hardware issue!

The screen has coating wich stops grease from fingers to stay on screen. The smudges are "scratches" on the coating and thats why those go away. Once the coating is gone the gorilla glass resists scratches. For the back cover, you really can't prevent scratches on plastic. Your battery sucks as mine lasts one day always.
For someone who said that front and back are different materials. Of course those are different since the whole front is glass..

1. Never had any problems with the touch screen. Had mine for 2 weeks now, and still works as the first day i had it.
2. Yea i have one scratch already, but i probably havent taken as much care protecting the phone as i should have. Dropped it a few times, and i dont use cover (never understood the reason to buy a phone cover).
3. Not quite sure on the battery, i charge mine at work and, at home, but the few times i have tried to use it untill it hit 1-2% i think it lasted about a day with average/high use, and perhaps 1-2 days with average use. Yea its not that specific, but i'm rarely without a USB cable, so battery isent that important to me.
I'd look into getting it replaced, sounds like a faulty unit to me.
Hey guys! I'm new to xda but have been lurking for a while =) I got a SGS3 Marble White version and I can confirm I have a hairline crack around the camera "hole" after minimum use for 1 week. Do you guys think this will turn into a big problem?
From the three issues that the OP is having, I am experiencing the first one. This issue with the smudges on the screen that look like scratches. I am not sure if this is the way the phone is made with the oleophobic coating or what. But it is kinda annoying, was thinking to see if Expansys would consider this as a defect because I've only have had the phone for 2 days. But if most people that have the phone are experiencing this issue, it could be a design choice.
Thank you for all the replies.
I ran a series of tests after I created this thread and the results are as follows:-
1. I asked 10 people to use my phone without informing them about the sticky screen problem. 9/10 people said that my screen was sticky and was catching a lot of grip. The funny part is that the touch screen on my phone is super smooth at this very moment. I am sure this is only temporary and the screen will become sticky again. This happens a lot. The screen becomes sticky on its own will and comes back to being normal randomly. Does anyone think that a screen protector will solve this problem? If yes, which one are you using?
2. I have ordered the Tridea SF coating case and I am waiting for it to be delivered to me. Meanwhile, the back cover on my phone has developed tiny dots and scratches which are easily visible.
3. I have attached my battery usage screen shots with this post. Can someone analyze the battery statistics and tell me whether my battery is doing well? I ran 2 tests which are as follows : -
3a. The first test was done by turning on the phone in power-saving mode. The phone lasted for a good 17 hours on heavy usage that included web browsing and downloading through wifi, watching downloaded videos, playing games, etc. Note that I slept for 7 hours during this test so it would be safe to say that the phone lasted me for 10 hours of heavy usage on power-saving mode.
3b. The second test was done by turning off power-saving mode. The phone lasted for 7 hours on heavy usage that mostly included playing games and web browsing. I slept for an hour during this test so its safe to say that the phone lasted me for 6 hours of heavy usage with power-saving mode turned off.
I am starting to get a little irritated because of the scratches on the back cover and a screen that has mood swings. I am not even sure if my battery is doing well.
I think your hand is too dirty, or somehow it is sensitive to that coating for using it.
Definitely no touch screen issue & battery life issue for me. In-fact this new coating make me happy as it give me great finger print less on screen.
I wash my hands thoroughly before touching the phone. I wouldn't want to spoil such an expensive peace of art, would I?
Can you take a look at my battery usage screen shots and tell me if the battery is doing ok? The first pair is on power-saving mode and the next pair is without power saving mode.
always someone with problems it happens to iphones samsung lg nexus every phone got problems for some people.. This phone has been great to me so far no complaints whatsoever except for the battery at first but after few charging cycles it lasts longer now...
Just in relation to your battery charging issues. I'm no expert but I've always been led to believe that you should NEVER fully discharge new phone batteries as it damages them more than incremental charges. Something to do with the materials used in the batteries but I followed that advice with my S2 and after about a week of charging whenever was convenient, I noticed my battery life started to last longer and longer. (also because I was charging more often - but that's besides the point as I'd notice it go from 99 - 90 and then suddenly 99 - 96 in the same time frame and use patterns)
I agree with you on the battery discharging part. Li-Ion batteries should never be discharged completely. I was tempted to see my battery usage from 100 to 0.
Can someone analyze my battery stats and tell me how its doing? ;(. Also anyone think I should go for a screen protector?
You have to post the time usages too. Post your on screen time and the amount of time you're playing the game for. The S3 gets about 5 hours of on screen time. If you're playing that game for like 3 hours and using the phone for like 2, or would make sense why your battery lasts only 7 hours.
as for your screen problem, maybe you got a faulty unit.sounds like the coating wasn't put on correctly or something

Like you I also have a couple of minor marks on my screen.
I havelooked after my phone rigidly, ensuring it is not anywhere close to anything that could scratch it.
THe only time the phone wasn't in a known place is when Vodaphone did the data transfer behind closed doors on a busy sunday when I bought it. I didn't check the phone over as I had no reason to see if it could be scratched! but within 2 weeks of getting the phone I noticed these scratches albeit very small but still visible.
If you watch the corning product videos, then this phone would be ideal for use in afghanistan as a shield from mortar attacks ! but obviously not protected against pockets of new trousers and fingers !
I have called samsung and they are not too interested, they say they have no notification of manufacturing defects from taiwan (or wherever)
I can send my phone into them, and they will check it out, but not sure if all it would do for me is to be without my phone for 10 days without resolution.
Have you progressed this any further? what are you going to do about your scratches ?
hd my phone for 2 weeks, and already have a scratch on the screen..(have not dropped or anything yet) I have had 4 HTC phones in the past, and NEVER had a scratched screen.. dropped on concrete, skidded across parking lot.. no scratch.. i think this screen is not as good as HTC screens.. (PISSED)
You shouldent run youre battery empty. Thats just a myth. The old phones had those batteries. Keeping more juice makes the battery live longer.

as for battery issue....maybe u can try this "2x Battery - Battery Saver". this is the few must hv apps in my android phone. i've tried many battery saving apps. i find this is the best for me. user-friendly,easy set up great development.
Try "better battery stats" Google it. But your battery looks normal to me.
Gorilla glass can not be scratched(yes i know), but again i have really tried with mine(fully insured) and its impossible.
to OP, the sticky screen that really puzzles me.something is wrong take it back.
when does it occur?.when its hot outside, high humidity.
I heard that sometimes 4K makes the phone overheat but what about under general usage?
My Z gets quite hot after web browsing n stuff and my back panel has lifted near the camera... IDK if the Z1 had this problem or not but i dont want to suck again for a serious problem like this.

Well , what ive noticed so far is when you use the camera it heats up. Even when your just taking pictures, once you use it for a bit it heats up then tells you to close the camera app.

@ SkyS1gn - It is definitely warm, but I wouldn't say it was hot. It also cools down very quickly when you stop what you were doing.

Thanks, i hope sony taught from their fault and the Z2 wont suffer from bakpanel-lifting issue!
for the record my galaxy note (no z2 until tomorrow) gets quite warm when i use it for browsing, gaming etc....... my galaxy s before that got quite warm also..... come to think of it my sisters s4 n her fellas moto razr x get quite warm when they're fiddling with them....... i would be more concerned if i bought a new phone and it didnt heat up during use.
Having said that tho, the back lifting definately doesnt sound right, pix?
Edit, sorry thought you was talking bout a z2

Nope its an issue with the Z, idk about the Z1 or Z2 but Z2 hasnt got that plastic strap around the edge of the back like the Z1, Z2 is more like the Z, just the edge and the glass, thats why some pll see gaps...
But im 99.8% sure they fixed the glue with the Z1 and the Z2. Z's nfc springs are a little bit higher than it should be so its constantly pressing the back panel away + considering the heat = made the back panel to lift a bit around the cam area. http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/general/discussionxperia-z-glass-coming-unglued-t2304680
I've been using the z2 for about 2 weeks, I personally find that it gets warm rather quickly. However most people (especially fanboys) would just say that all phones get hot or ridiculous stuff like you can use water to cool the phone since its waterproof. The phone gets rather warm in a few minutes even when you're just browsing, messaging or meddling with the settings. Playing graphics intensive games drive the temperature up really high, to a point that it is hot to touch. I understand that the phone is packed with awesome hardwares and that huge screen in such a slim body, which are probably why temperature gets so high. But when I use the HTC M8 or Iphone 5s for similar activities, they just dont get as hot, and definitely not as fast. However as mentioned, it cools down as pretty quickly too. I feel that this is something Sony can definitely do better in.

I think "hotness" is subjectif. What is hot for you might be normal for me.
When can we speak of overheating in degrees?
Mine gets only up to 31 degree by browsing, games or camera. And not very quick too. And don't forget that iPhone hasn't got very powerful hardware. But we got just up to 23 degree in spring. Where do you live?

It does get hot very easily, thats one of the first things I noticed about this phone. But I have yet to experience any issues as a result of it, so in all I wouldnt say its really a problem you should worry about.
So I've been using the phone for about 5 days now, and I have to say it does get warm from time to time. It doesn't get uncomfortably warm/hot, but the increased temperature is noticeable and makes my hand more sweaty. It's most obvious when:
1) Charging (between 0-90%ish)
2) Some moderate use (browsing, games, etc)
Maybe it's just the metal back dispersing heat better, but so far, this is the hottest phone that I've used.
Anyone has the same experience?

It gets slightly hot but I've had hotter such as the G3.

Hell, my Nexus 5 gets somewhat warm. Not a big deal. Long as it isn't overly hot.
The only time I have noticed the phone to get "hot" was when I was using Dolphin browser to watch videos because of the flash player ability. It got hot especially in the area on the back just below the camera; not extremely hot, but definitely not warm. Other than that, the device runs somewhat warm for other intensive tasks like gaming for me.
lol, what is it about ?? any device get hot while charging or gaming...
Moto X Pure Edition got hotter than this 6P too. It's nothing to be concerned about.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Yeah my Moto pure was much hotter. 20 degrees hotter. The OPO also was slightly warmer. I think the aluminum does a good job of distributing the heat.
I've seen that it does get warm under certain conditions but it never goes higher than 101°F at its hottest point. And I think the aluminum is cool enough where it never really feels uncomfortable hot.
G4 got BLAZING hot at times
My note 4 gets warm with an extended battery lol

My 6P gets quite warm when I use Waze on the drive home after work. It's a 25 minute drive. If I keep the screen off, it doesn't get warm hardly at all. I'm feeling the heat when I leave the screen on the entire trip.
My LG G3 gets hot.
The power button on the back gets uncomfortably hot.
For me it got hot when installing all apps at once but very minimal. Unlike my nexus 5; that sucker feels like its on fire.

What phone in the market doesn't get hot at all? My Oneplus One gets uncomfortable doing similar tasks, it doesn't have a fan the heat has to be dispersed somehow right!
Phone gets warm, no warmer than my M7 I had back in the day. Chalk it up to metal build.
I agree it gets pretty warm and maybe even hot, especially while using Chrome. I have only had the phone a couple days and I'll admit it does bug me how warm it gets. My OPO doesn't get this hot.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Does the N6P have the heat pipes? I didn't see any in the tear down? I think there is quite a bit of throttling as I notice the performance dropping the more I use it. In saying that, it's not that bad and as I said I've had other phones that have been much worse.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
Can we compare temps here? I downloaded CPU-Z but I'm not exactly sure where to find CPU temps. My battery temp seems to be in the 30-38C range during normal usage. Does that sound right? I'm trying to decide if my device should be getting this warm with normal use or if it's a defect. I may factory reset and choose to set up as a new device. I chose to restore my OPO settings when I originally reset and set it up. Maybe something got installed that shouldn't have been.
Agree with other posts. Any phone gets warm. CPU working its ass off. I've had much much worse.
It gets warm on the finger print button and just above it. Warm. The LG m9 gets so hot my chances of having kids is out the window
Got the phone today, liking it so far. I dont have any huge build quality issues, a little warping on backside of chin, but you really have to stare. Overall fairly minor when comparing it to how youtubers were reacting.
Now I did notice one thing when I pulled the battery portion OUT. When you have the battery and chin still connected to each other, and you hold it either by the battery itself or just the chin, do the two parts have a slightly loose shake between them where the plastic hooks meet? The battery functions/charges fine, but Im not sure if thats how all the g5 models are , or if they are supposed to sit tight together with no noticeable movement ?
Now just a heads up, I am shaking the battery/chin to feel the loose movement. I figure its just how the hooking system is designed where it cant be flush, but I just want to double check if I need to swap this unit out. Cosmetics are one thing, but Im not messing with a battery/chin that may give me more issues down the road.
It's fine. Relax and enjoy your new phone.
If it was flushed tight, you probably won't be able to remove the battery from the battery adapter.
You have no problem there.
So, long story short, my phone's battery had a sudden death. After I had it serviced by a 3rd party company, it came back with the screen somewhat damaged.
Here are some pictures for example, using the display service test:
I can't prove they did it because I simply couldn't turn the phone up until they replaced the battery. The battery might have leaked or something. They obviously didn't take the blame for it, but they also messed up the usb port so they are definitely a potential suspect. But, if they did it, what could be it? Looks like it got stained or wet or something... Definitely weird.
That kind of display issue is typically caused by a polarizer that is warped, usually caused by applying pressure to the display when it is hot. It's an all too easy thing for an inexperienced or careless repair person to do while the phone is face down on the bench, especially if they heat the entire device to loosen the seals, not just the back, or if they cool it down too quickly. It's even more common if the LCD itself is removed, but they should not have needed to do that to replace your battery. You may be able to improve it some by putting if face up, using a hair dryer to slowly heat the display a bit (not too close and moving continuously), and then letting it slowly cool down. If you have a screen saver installed, remove it first. You may be tempted to try and "work out" the warping. You are much more likely to make it worse if you try, so I don't recommend it. If you do nothing, it may slowly reduce on it's own as well.

That might be the case. I can see the patterns shift a bit when I apply pressure to the screen. What is a way to confirm this? Could I do something with polarized sunglasses or something? If that is correct, the areas affected should darken/brighten differently from the rest of the screen.
I didn't try to mess with heating the screen up. Like you said, I might make it worse and I'm already really pissed about it. But I kinda want to try anyways. Where have you seen this before? Is it possible to fix it without opening the phone?
It's more common on tablets than phones, just because of size. I've seen it on screens that have been sat on but didn't break, but heat in combination with pressure is the more typical culprit. The sun or a hot car might do it if the heat was uneven, but I've not seen that. I'm not sure how you could confirm it. Maybe some sections will darken faster as a polarizer is rotated toward perpendicular to the polarized axis of the screen. Essentially, the glue layer between the polarizer and LCD panel is thinner in some places than others, so the polarizer is on a slight angle. In those areas, there is more polarization, and you see a darkness. The only real fix is to replace the screen assembly. The steps I gave will typically just help reduce, but never fully eliminate, the issue.
Unless they did a full, written inspection of the phone before you left it for repairs and you did a full inspection before walking out with it and noted the discrepancy then (which is always a good idea), your repair person is likely to continue to claim they did not do it.
The phone wasn't like that when the battery died. For obvious reasons, the screen couldn't be inspected before the company made the repairs. So I can't say it was their fault, although I'm pretty positive that it was. The suspicion is big because they also messed up the USB port pretty good. But, again, I can't prove it. It sucks because I wanted to sell the phone, and it was in pristine condition.
