I have a Passion v10 in my SGS Vibrant.
My problem rigth now it is the GPS. I have my GPS ON and i got signal in Google maps, but only in this app. If i try my GPS app (NDrive) it say NO GPS, if i try a test with GPS Test i have GPS ON but i dont have any signal, if i test with AngryGPS i have a time out (same as NO GPS )
These are my settings with AngryGPS:
Test mode: S/W Test
Operation Mode: MSBased
Start mode: Hot start
XTRA: ON
GPS Logging: ON
Time out(s): 225
Accuracy: 50
Server FQDN: Custom Config
Server: supl.google.com
Server port: 7276
Server type: UMTS SLP
SUPL Secure socket: OFF
AGPS Mode: SUPL
SSL Type: VerSing
Can i do something else?
I have the correct configuration?
Someone have problems like this?
I really appreciate any help.
Best Regards!,
Waldos.
it is probably WIFI location not GPS that's why its working in maps. To get GPS working try this:
1. download GPS Status from market
2. open it then goto Menu > Tools > Manage A-GPS State
3. Click Reset
4. Reboot
5. open GPS Status and go back to the same menu and click Download
After doing this you should immediately see about 10-14 satellites and within a few seconds get a lock. Then open maps or any other software.
hi syl0n, thx for your help.
I did what you tell me and i did not get a bigger difference. I think it is not related with the settings.
The only i can say you is that i only have access to the GPS the first seconds of the startup. If i try to open a GPS app after the first seconds i can catch any gps signal.
This is a problem with the phone?
ICS is good with GPS?
There will be a fix for this problem?
Thanks for your great support!
Best regards,
Waldos.
Edit:
Finally i got a near perfect GPS. I concluded that i have only the first minutes to start the GPS process, after that i can not get the GPS function.
If you need my steps to get the GPS, they are here.
First al all delete the GPS configuration, to make a fresh and clean signal:
Go to angryGPS and press Delete GPS Data
The we can start the configuration of the GPS with the same app (angryGPS )
General Settings
Test mode: S/W Test
Operation Mode: MSBased
Start mode: Cold start
XTRA: ON
GPS Logging: ON
Time out(s): 225
Accuracy: 50
SUPL Settings
Server FQDN: Custom Config
Server: supl.google.com
Server port: 7276
Server type: UMTS SLP
SUPL Secure socket: OFF
AGPS Mode: SUPL
SSL Type: VerSing
Then we continue the configuration with FasterFix :
You have to put your continent.
If you live in US you have to select North-America.
If you live in Spain you have to put Europe.
Finally put it on your first screen a shortcut of AngryGPS (a fast shortcut)
Now you have to shut-down your phone, go outside and start your phone.
You have the first minutes to start the GPS process, so start the AngryGPS, select Lock-on-Satellite Test, select GPS Start, and wait some minutes. When the first cycle ends (225 sec) you finally have the location of your position.
Now you can change the angryGPS configuration for a faster GPS.
Go to AngryGPS and change the next option:
Start mode: Hot start
And thats all! If you have more problems. I have a bulletproof configuration. Just Ask me.

Have you even taken the phone apart yet, and done the HW Mod yet, Its a well known fact that T-959's have ****ty contact with the GPS antenna, and as such, there is no SW configuration that will achieve any signal strong enough to make it work, until the HW mod is performed, which afterwards you will see significantly improved signal, and therefore the next step would be in deciding which SW works the best based on the flavor of ROM your using, I myself am using the script that came with V10 and am getting excellent results, with lock within 30 sec's or less and down to 13ft. But of course I did the HW MOD, I slipped some plastic under the tabs for both my GPS and WIFI to ensure excellent contact pressure, ensuring strong signals. Otherwise before I did the MOD for GPS, there wasn't hardly any signal and I was lucky to achieve lock at all!!
If you havent improved the contact pressure, you need to do that before screwing around with the SW. Otherwise your chasing your tail in circles!
Hi dseldown,
Thanks for your excellent and detail solution. I test your solution when i will not have any sinal , but for the moment i do not want to open my phone because yesterday i did some test and the GPS is near perfect. The only think i do (after all the above configuration) is reboot the phone and when the phone starts i open AngryGPS and start a Lock-on-Satellite Test, after 30 seconds i have 9~10 birds.
You have take in mind that you have to configure your phone before you GPS works.
Another note it is that not always your icon of GPS has to blink. Sometimes only appears.
Final note: I know that i have my GPS working because i have my WiFi Off and i am on only 2G.
After I did the HW fix I actually had to remove angry GPS to get good locks.
Might be a fluke.

Yes search Hardware fix GPS Vibrant. There is also a youtube.
it is really really simple. The forum post says solder but what you can do is cut a tiny piece of 12 gauge (really tiny) and just put it in between contacts. I got signal lock in my basement which is retarded lucky but still happened.
Ok i will do a research about this topic.
And i put my comments in this same threat.
I have to add another note:
Yesterday and today i only have GPS signal before 2 reboots. I do not know why but i have a strong signal I hope have a better signal before do a Hardware fix.

LOL that's a good one but i've already tried it from the roof of a 52 floors building in downtown manhattan. and nothing if i tried to use the sprint telenav it tells me that the GPS signal is to low, to make sure is turned on by going to phone settings-->location settings-->Network-->GPS, that location doesnt exist on my phone. any suggestions.
Freezing cold up in there by the way!!!
I live in NYC too and was having this problem also....just put the phone in ur window with Google maps running...it took about 45mins before it calibrated and found a satellite the first time. But now it works very fast.
Also make sure under system ---> external GPS you have "GPS Program port" on Com4

try this
i live in nyc and it didnt work until i went into settings and turned off my location then it found me in like 2 seconds
I'm in NYC as well.. Chelsea area.
My XV6800 had the location setting (Start > Settings > Personal > Phone > Services > Location Setting) turned to 911 Only. I set it to Location On and GPSViewer started seeing satellites but could not get a fix. I performed a hard reset (Start > Settings > System > Clear Storage ) on the device and it got a fix in 35 seconds. Now I get a fix immediately.

the funny thing is that i hear people claiming that they have a 911 only option under location settings, i only have ON or OFF. anyways nothing is working i left it like for an hour almost drain out my battery. i havent got this GPS feature to work. any registry or someplace else to look for??
You need to download gpsinfo.exe, and run it, opening com4 at 9600. See if it shows you moving gps nmea data. If so, it's working, leave it be for awhile to get a fix. If not, you have a problem with your rom/phone/settings...

sounds like it is probably my hardware because i've tried with DCDs and unofficial Sprint rom also. i'll give a try with gpsinfo.exe with location settings on and off just in case. thanks guys, i'll post back with results.

Using GPSINFO.exe it shows me some red dots with numbers inside. that is when you start gpsinfo.exe and go to GPS INFO Tab. so what that means??
edit:it showed me some greens a couple of times.
alright so i installed gpsinfo.exe and the hardware itself seems to be working because it gives me red and green dots, but it doesnt seem to attach ot get a fix one, any suggestions?
So in the setup tab does it scroll data? if so your hardware is fine, leave it sit in a good area outdoors (or somewhere with a un-obstructed view of the sky) for about 10 minutes. It should get a fix (some of the circles in the other tab will turn blue). What are the signal levels you are getting in that tab?

ok... the setup tab does scroll data, then the gpsinfo tab shows me red and green dots with numbers inside the dots. also with bars that range from 13 to 33. 33 being the max i've seen but doesnt get a fix status.
GPS stopped locking altogether
Anybody elses GPS just stop working? Haven't been able to get any locks since yesterday even when out driving around. Only known change yesterday was installing HTC Home Plug and Customizer 0.8. Tried soft reset, manual IOTA, ##debug# and googlemaps. All no help. Any clues?

alright guy so just a little update, my GPS works fine but it takes like 20 to 30 minutes every time i close googlemaps or any other program that uses the GPS hardware, i have to prime it using gpsinfo.exe first like for 30 minutes and then will work.
Thanks to all you guys who helped me in this.
Hey guys,
Can you tell me if there is an "issue" with the GPS on the Alltel Touch Pro phones? These are fairly new phones and have only been out for a couple weeks so there may not be a lot of info available but it sure seems to me there are some issues here.
I'm on my 3rd phone. First phone was probably OK but since it was new and nobody in the area was familiar with it, everyone thought the speakerphone speaker was defective... turns out it just sucks but that's in a different thread. On the 2nd phone we noticed at the Alltel store the signal kept dropping out completely and then coming back. Also I dropped a call, looked at the phone and it showed no bars in a very good signal reception area. That coupled with I couldn't get the GPS to reliably work, Alltel swapped out the phone again for me thinking the GPS was defective. Well, third one might be worse!!!???
I have verified I have the 911 location settings turned ON.
I have run QuickGPS and downloaded the data.
On the 2nd phone after several days of trying it off and on and having zero success I decided to get the $9.99 monthly Alltel app. It did indicate a weak signal but eventually picked up my location. Hmm??? I then went into Google Maps and it too was seeing around 10 satellites. Why could I not get it to see any satellites for days then as soon as I paid for the monthly Alltel app it "kinda" worked??? I say "kinda" because after that being able to lock onto satellites even in an open field was very iffy. So, I took the Alltel GPS app off the phone and did a hard reset because I still couldn't consistently get any satellites. After the hard reset I tried again with Google Maps and nothing. I then downloaded GPS Test and it immediately found several satellites??? I then started up Google Maps and then it immediately started working too?!? During all this I installed TomTom Navigator 5 (own that so thought I'd try it) and it too was "iffy" if it would find any satellites but it did connect so long as I had the GPS Test program running in the background. I could live with that but even with the GPS Test program running in the background on the 2nd phone it wasn't at all consistent even outside in an open field. What I find odd though is that the GPS seems to "stick" and the GPS Test program was "unsticking" the locked up GPS... but not reliably.
Now for the 3rd phone. Get the 3rd phone this morning and immediately download Google Maps, turn on location settings, and do the Quick GPS. Do a soft reset and try out Google Maps in a parking lot. NOTHING again after over 10 minutes. CRAP! Downloaded GPS Test and now on this phone I'm only getting "GPS starting up" with one yellow bar. I can't even get GPS Test to work now but it finds the GPS and acts like it is trying to lock on to satellites. On both phones it was defaulting to 9600 baud. Seemed to not make a difference if I select 9600 or 4800... when it works it works and when it doesn't it doesn't.
This is very frustrating. It is not like the programs don't work because I've got them all to work but only sporadically. Is Alltel doing "something" to this phone and the GPS like "half assed" locking it out??? I don't know what else it could be. Could I have got two bad phones in a row? I've read were other Alltel users just download Google Maps and, bingo, works immediately for them.
Any ideas as to what I might be able to try would be greatly appreciated. I love some of the features on the phone but some of the basic items that should work (speakerphone, GPS) on an expensive phone like this don't work worth a darn
Thanks!!!
Drop the Alltel Nav plan...you don't need it. All it did was set your GPS settings to work, which you can do in the settings. Set GPS Hardware Port GPS and GPS Program Port both to none. Set Baud at 4800 and allow automatic managment. Soft Reset just in case and you should be good to go!

I only had the Alltel Nav plan for a couple of days... only got it for troubleshooting.
I had tried your settings before and both Google Maps and GPS Test could not even find the GPS. I just tried again and same results... GPS just keeps scanning for the GPS and can never find it. You have an Alltel phone?
The setting that you recommend me changing away from the default setting is the GPS Program Port... if that is set to NONE, the programs can't even find the GPS. When I change it back to COM4, the GPS is found but GPS Test sits at "GPS Starting Up" with either no satellites found or just one most of the time. I did the other day get it to work even on this new phone but then yesterday tried again for 20 minutes sitting still outside and the best I got GPS Test to show was 4 satellites... not even enough to get past the "starting up" message.
It seems like it is defective again but, man, TWO phones in a row with a bad GPS?????
So last night after replying to this thread, I was messing around with the new google maps. This morning...NOTHING works with my GPS. Perhaps the download of alltel nav (although canceled) activated the GPS on my phone for a specified time and now the sub ended. I was sold on this phone by Alltel reps because the GPS was not locked to an app.

Well, after screwing around yesterday like I did, I decided to just let it set in my garage (with many sky lights) this morning for a few hours with the GPS Test program running and looking for satellites. NOTHING. Did a soft reset, went outside, started up the GPS Test program and within 5 seconds was locked on to 10 satellites!?!?! I could swear I've done soft resets before and it did no good. Will try a soft reset again if it quits working on me. Also, I'm inside the house now in a room with ZERO windows and it is still seeing 7 satellites. I suspect there is an issue with GPS on this phone but because it seems very "flaky" I'd think a software update may be able to fix it... hope so anyway!
You might want to try a soft reset and see if that works for ya?
I also talked to a smart phone expert guy and he said it doesn't hurt to do the Quick GPS DAILY. He has found that on many phones running a program like this daily helps the phone to connect much quicker. FWIW, I didn't run it today and after the reset it connected in seconds. LOL
Ok, so I tried running Quick GPS and I get an error "Connection Failed". Perhaps this is somehow related to the GPS issue? I will keep trying throughout the day.

I only ever got that when my 911 location setting was turned OFF when I first got the phone. Turned that on and it worked no problem. Also, of course, you have to be able to get your data connection established. With a data connection and your location settings ON, I don't know why you'd have a problem.
GPS no worky right for me......
Finally someone with a thread for this issue! I too am having the exact same problem. The GPS is very "flaky" at best.... I have had it work sporadically at best in the car and will drop it for no reason and the pick it right back up and then go out for good. I dont really understand what to do, it is all quite a mystery. I have manipulated the settings back and forth trying diffent things to no avail. I hope there is an update soon that straightens this out. It annoys me becasue my old titan got signal in about 10 seconds, 10 satellites, indoors, in any part of my house.... just a bit frustrating. Hopefully we get a fix soon.
Thanks for any advice on this!

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
This was driving me nuts! Now not only does quickGPS work, so does google maps I remember now changing that setting last night. Who knew?

After messing with this a bit more, I think there is definitely an issue with the Alltel version of this phone and the GPS. It seems that if I can't get it to work, it WILL work after I do a soft reset. What triggers the "need" to do a soft reset I have not yet figured out. But, I do know that I saw a friend who just got a Sprint HTC Touch Pro and had no idea about the GPS. I downloaded Google Maps on their phone and in less than 5 seconds the GPS was working like a charm.
Looks like the Alltel GPS works but is very sporadic at best and, for whatever reason, requires a soft reset damn near each time you want to use it. Hoping for a real "fix" for this soon!
and how do i change the 911 location settings
The 911 settings are located in the settings for the phone. START->SETTINGS->PHONE then click the Services tab and it is under the Location Setting.

Ok here is something that may be contributing to my problem. So i have double and triple checked the my location check and looked at the option which has always read "on". the strange thin is that the icon on the phone dialer screen shows my location feature is set to off. I have gone back to check the location setting and verified it was on. So i selected off then back on and then the icon reflected it was "on". I have tried soft resets after doing this and it goes right back to the way it was before I force it on. I am now hinking this is what is contributing to the flaky response of the gps. just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.....

Which icon are you talking about? I looked through the online pdf manual and could find no icon that indicated this setting was on or off
Also, while a soft reset sometimes works for this, it doesn't all the time. What has saved me time in this, though, is that I've learned that if it doesn't connect in under a minute, it ain't going to. Mine either works pretty much right away or doesn't work at all. It does seem to help to start up GPS Test first but that doesn't always work either.
After reading a bit more about this on other forums, it doesn't look to be related specifically to the Alltel version like I originally assumed. A number of people with other carriers are also experiencing "flaky" operation of the HTC Touch Pro GPS. The very sad part about this is that, apparently, HTC refuses to acknowledge a problem exists.
Would be nice to know if this is a software/driver issue or hardware issue. If a hardware issue then I'll be stuck using an external receiver most likely. Software, I can hold out hope that somebody will get it figured out!
the icon i am referring to is on you phone dialer. it is a circle that resembles a set of crosshairs. when the location feature is on, you will see the crosshairs. when the setting is off the crosshairs have a diagonal line through them. i am using my phone to send this so i cant attach any pictures right now. the icon is right next to the back arrow at the top of the dialer where the number you dial is shown.
update... spent 30 minutes with alltel smartphone support and they had no solution other than saying they would send this to the group that reports issues to htc to work on a solution. they did offer me to return it but i like this phone too much. i am
sure we will figure it out soon enough.

Ahh... I see that now and amazingly enough, mine has a line through it. I'll check that next time I can get the GPS to work and see if it changes.
Like you, I really like the phone but it greatly aggravates me that something so expensive doesn't work, as designed, out of the box.
I have had 3 alltel TP phones and all of them once 911 and location was set to on and quick gps was run once then they always got instant locks of 10 satellites. On my mogul the best i would ever get would be 4-6 satellites. Google & Live search use the intermediate driver with default settings with no lag and Iguidance (which is the best voiceprompt gps software) works with no lag when using Franson GPS gate as a virtual com port for the GPS driver.

If you go to your phone dialer, is there a "line" through the crosshair/circle icon?
I haven't been able to get a lock for couple days now. Bummer. I'm going to call Alltel tech support again and see what they say.
Ok, after not even beeing able to get more than a couple satellites being shown in GPS Test which means nothing more than a GPS Starting message, I decided to call tech support to see if they had documented any other issues with the phone since I last contacted them. I was told there are NO known issues with the Touch Pro (not even the problem with the speakerphone or the previously reported GPS issues).
After talking with tech support and they guy telling me that they get a number of calls for "other" GPS software programs but not too many for the Alltel Navagation program that they offer, he told me he can't help me with the other programs and I should contact their vendors. I tried to explain to him that one was a simple GPS Test program and the other was Google Maps but he kept saying that they don't really have problems with "their" GPS subscription program.
Being basically fed up and figuring it was worth the $10 to continue to troubleshoot this problem, I downloaded the Alltel Navagation program again. And guess what... IT WORKED. Guess what else... when I had the Alltel Navagation program working, GPS Test and Google Maps work fine too and I'm even inside a large building right now!!!
Does anybody have any "inside" on what is going on here? I know a number of Alltel people say the GPS on their Touch Pro works just fine using something like Google Maps. On mine, it "sometimes" works. I find it VERY odd that on my last Touch Pro phone I NEVER got even a single satellite to show until I downloaded the Alltel pay program. Now, with this phone, after struggling with it a bit I can "sometimes" get it to work but haven't been able to for a couple days, even after numerous soft resets but now, immediately after activating and running the Alltel program, my GPS starting working just peachy and even inside a large building!?!? I've got a full 5 bars in the Alltel GPS program inside. WHAT GIVES???
I'm going to pay for this Alltel program for a few days and see if I can consistently get a lock. If so, I'd sure like to know why the phone's GPS magically gets "better" so long as you pay for their service

I just went outside and launched Gpsgate/Iguidance and had 10 sattelites instantly, it has been at least a week since I have drove and used the GPS, but I use it all the time with no problems or lag. Inside I almost instantly get 6-7 sats. using Google maps or livesearch without GPS gate, only the MS intermediate driver I get instant locks as well. I ran quick GPS once about a month ago on this unit.
Please Help!!!
I love this ROM, but I cannot get good GPS quality with it. I know most people have no issue with this, but my GPS on my phone has always been finicky. I updated to Build 13 and Build 13 R2...and neither one allows my GPS to work. My GPS worked (although not really well) with all the other builds.
Here is the wierd part, when I travel out of my hometown (sarasota, FL) my GPS has always worked better. I work in Ocala and with Build 13 my GPS worked the other day, but not when I got home. I tried with the tweaks listed below and I tried before installing any tweaks, no luck...
I installed these tweaks:
GPS Registry - Alltel: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/attachment...0&d=1237009140 (direct d/l link FYI)
Turbo_GPS_Settings: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=496800
Any help would be great, because GPS is my favorite feature on this phone.
**edit: I am using Google Maps**

did you check your GPS signal? I recommended checking it out three times...
I checked the GPS Watcher program if that is what you are asking...
In Startmenu, System Tools, GPS Viewer,
COM port #4, or simply COM4 4800 BAUD and hit OPEN wait 20 seconds or so until signal settles down.
Please post signal(numbers inside bars) and number of sats detected.
That software has a bug that when you do get a fix, it doesn't tell you until you switch tab back and forth.
Reason I'm asking for this is that I want to make sure your GPS unit can receive signal before messing with anything else.
Reg hacks and roms are not going to help if your GPS unit is defective, right?
here is a screenshot of GPS Viewer. This is from Ocala, Fl were my gps works fine. When I am in Sarasota, fl (hometown) the GPS viewer finds no satellites.
From the looks of the numbers, it seems like to me that either your phone is located so that sky view is obstructed with something metallic or your inside building with windows. Right?
One you posted above is when GPS is operational, so, by comparing this screenshot with the other screenshot with GPS non-functional it will greatly help out in finding what is actually wrong.
As you might have figured out already, I prefer data collection first and then action later.
This might be a redundant question, but have you gone into your phone settings to make sure that Location settings are turned on? After that make sure that AGPS is enabled.
Yes NFSFANs rom has those settings by default, but thanks.
Here is the GPSViewer when I run it at my house. I had to leave it outside on my table for about 3-4 minutes and this is the signal I recieved. There were a few more bars but by the time I picked it up and ran CapSure they were gone...
Both were taken on a clear day outside of a building that obstructs the view slightly, but not enough to have much difference.
Oops I forgot the picture, here it is:
Did this happen recently? Some satellites go offline and online periodically and you just may be happen to be in the area where signal dark occures.
or
Test with other Touch Pro phones nearby to confirm your GPS module pretty insensitive or not.
This is all I could think of, good luck.

It has been weak since I have owned the phone. It has however worked in Sarasota 90% of the time and works in Ocala all the time.
The main issue I want resolved is why my GPS worked on NFSFANs 112 Rom and before, but doesn't work on 113 R1-3
Can anyone else help with this?
Can anyone tell me if that GPS Viewer app will display MPH (as opposed to km/h).
The GPS on my TP seems weak/inaccurate as well. I had a Mogul before & the GPS on it was dead on. I have had 2 TPs; the first one was horrible @ acquiring a signal. Even after using QuickGPS, it would still take forever outside. The one I have now acquires much faster, but tracking still is not as accurate as my Mogul.
I just did a hard reset and now my GPS doesnt work. It was fine before, I have the current MR1 rom update, and all was fine before. Now it just wont find any satellites. I have all the settings right, location on, Com4, 4800baud, managed by windows... I dont know what else to do other than another hard reset. I called verizon tech support, no help there. We did try VZ navigator, and it worked.

Change your radio. Happened to me and that was the culprit.
I haven't had working GPS with any JK2 ROM. There are my settings:
Session Type: Tracking
Test Mode: SW
Operation Mode: MS based
Start Mode: Hot
GPS+: On
Dynamic Accuracy: On
Accuracy: 50
GPS Logging: Off
Server: supl.google.com
Server Port: 7276

Turned off network assist, went into lbs and couldn't get a single lock on the position test. Outdoors. Any recommendations? Tried with assist on too and cleared cache before each test.
I think its hit or miss my friend. My settings are about the same except I have standalone. The 2.1 ROMS Id have 8-10 sat locks in under 30sec.
With the 2.2 ROMS (Ive tried a few) its takes my phone about 5-6min to get 3-4 sat locks.
I hope it will progressively get better - especially when the "official" 2.2 is out. From all the GPS posts here I dont think there is any single solution.
Arrrgggghh. Definitive answer, just not the one I was hoping for. I did have working, fast GPS when I was on Bionix Final. Guess i'm going to have to wait. I'm on travel for Thanksgiving and it's really hard to find my way using google maps without an accurate idea of where I am.
buy the real gps
just bought Garmin 1300 mlt i think and its awesome was on sale for the holidays for really good deal..

Hey guys, girls. This is my first guide, tutorial, attempt to help another with a common Fascinate problem. This happens to be GPS. These are not my ideas, but it helped my GPS so much I just felt compelled to write this and hopefully help others. So in having saying that, full credit goes to this post - [FIX] Updated: GPS Tracking Issues (Optional FIX) For Stock Phones and other various sources. (Found Below)
Please don't hold me responsible if something goes wrong. This may or may not work for you; although, I'm confident it will work with most phone, carriers, roms, and kernels. Obviously if your custom rom has known GPS problems, this is useless. Yet it may not hurt to try.
I would suggest before you do anything make a backup of your current settings. I use ShootMe! app to take screen captures whenever I can of my before/after settings.
My phone is the Telus Samsung Fascinate 3G+ T959D. The changes worked for me on Froyo w/ stock & stock + Voodoo kernels. Also works with the recent Gingerbread 2.3.3 update, stock kernel, only changing the settings that appear in Froyo. Both were rooted, but not too sure if root is required.
I didn't install any apps, scripts, anything to get GPS working. Below I have some extra reading material I've found. It was simply reading for me, no flashing, installing, or file editing.
FROYO
1 - Disable "Use Wireless Networks" | Settings > Location & Security
2 - Enable "Use GPS satellites" | Optional: "Use sensor aiding" (I do use it)
3 - Dial *#*#3214789650#*#* | Stock Dialer usually works best with codes. Menu will auto popup on last '*' input. Entering AGPS Settings is a little different on GB.
[NOTE] If above code don't work, another is *#*#1472365#*#* (2.1?) If you still have problems try entering the code with a single *# - i.e. *#3214789650#* various apps, Root Tools being one, gives access to Angry GPS/A-GPS settings.
4 - Enter "Application Settings" | Did you make a backup??
---| Session Type: Tracking
---| Test Mode: S/W Test
---| Operation Mode: MS-BASED
---| Start Mode: Hot Start
---| GPS Plus: ON
---| Dynamic Accuracy: ON
---| Accuracy: 50M
---| GPS Logging: OFF
Now back out to the previous screen.
5 - Enter "SUPL Settings" | About that backup??
---| Server FQDN Type: Custom Config
---| Server: supl.google.com
---| Server Port: 7276
---| SUPL Secure Socket: OFF
---| AGPS Mode: SUPL
6 - Back out to previous screen, and then continue backing out to close and save the settings.
7 - Power Off Completely. (Until you feel the short vibe)
8 - Turn on phone.
9 - Get a clear line of sight to sky.
10 - Enable "Use Wireless Networks" | Settings > Location & Security
11 - Enter Angry GPS Settings again.
12 - Press "Delete GPS Data"
13 - Press "Get Position Test" | Let your phone sit for about 5 min. without touching anything. Let it lock on too 8+ satellites. Once it does, simply back out and the settings will save.

GINGERBREAD
1 - Disable "Use Wireless Networks" | Settings > Location & Security
2 - Enable "Use GPS satellites" | Optional: "Use sensor aiding" (I do use it)
3 - Dial *#*#3214789650#*#* | Stock Dialer usually works best with codes.
[NOTE] When I enter the above code in GB default dialer it brings me to the "Location & Security" settings screen from Step 1. I fluked into this, to get into the Angry GPS settings you need to Double Press the 'back' button. As if you're double-clicking your mouse button.
4 - Enter "Settings" | Then enter "General Settings"
---| Test Mode: S/W Test
---| Operation Mode: MSBASED
---| Start Mode: Hot Start
---| GPS Plus: ON
---| GPS Logging: OFF
---| Time Out(s): 255
---| Accuracy: 50M
Now back to the previous screen.
5 - Enter "SUPL Settings" |
---| Server FQDN Type: Custom Config
---| Server: supl.google.com
---| Server Port: 7276
---| Server Type: UMTS SLP
---| SUPL Secure Socket: OFF
---| AGPS Mode: SUPL
---| SSL Type: VerSign
6 - Back out to previous screen, and then continue backing out to close and save the settings.
7 - Power Off Completely. (Until you feel the short vibe)
8 - Turn on phone.
9 - Get a clear line of sight to sky.
10 - Enable "Use Wireless Networks" | Settings > Location & Security
11 - Enter Angry GPS Settings again.
12 - Press "Delete GPS Data"
13 - Press "TTFF Test" | Press "Start GPS" Let your phone sit for about 5 min. without touching anything. It will lock on to a few satellites, stop, count to 60 and do the same thing over. I let it do this about 10 times. Press "Stop GPS" and Back out to save.

That's it, hopefully you’ll have the success I'm having with GPS. As for testing, I use Co-Pilot, Google Maps, and Google Navigation. With any of the 3 apps I can disable "Use Wireless Networks" and enable "Airplane Mode" and GPS works the same. I do find that Google Maps likes the "Use wireless Networks" enabled. I really like Co-Pilot the most, and set to use the phones "Text-to-Speech" rather
than the ones the app can download. Using the phones TTS will announce street names while navigating.
Some Extra reading material, if you want to know what the settings mean. It mainly applies to Froyo. When I got GB I just tailored the Froyo settings to GB and it worked the same.
---->To Anyone Having GPS Issues
---->How to Fix Galaxy S GPS
I hope it works for you guys, like I said it most likely will work on other phones/carriers/roms. Just make that backup, and before diving in head first, do some reading.
Have a nice day!

Wow! This made a HUGE difference for my Telus Samsung Fascinate 3G+ SGH-T959D (2.3.3).
I used to have such a hard time getting locks, especially in the evening (I don't know if it was a coincidence or not), but now so far with the tweak, I get 4 to 8 locks in 10-15 seconds, that's awesome! Yesterday it even went up to 10 locks, I had never seen that before!
For those interested, I was able to do the tweak without root.
Thanks a buch Maniac!
Can this be used on the MIUI ROMs? I can't seem to get that dialer code working for me.

Try the app called SGS Tools.. it might get you into the GPS. There was another app I had that had a button "Angry GPS".. but for the life of me I can't remember the name of it.
Bottom line, the settings you are looking to make these changes are called Angry GPS.

Hope this helps everyone.

You're welcome. I agree... these minor tweaks made such a huge difference on GPS.. I coudn't believe it, all telus had to do was the same, or samsung, and these problems wouldn't exist.

I'm running the Community Froyo KangBang-whatever-it's-called ROM (the 2.1 one) - can't get into this menu at all. Any insight? My GPS has been flaky as hell recently. Once it locks, it loses signal frequently.
I might have some help for those who can't get into the Angry GPS settings. The gps.conf file, located /system/etc/gps.conf
This is what I have in my file...keep in mind.. I'm stock gingerbread... this should work for froyo.. if anyone is using a froyo based rom.. maybe they can confirm there gps.conf is layed out the same.
NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_3=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com
SUPL_PORT=7276
The NTP_SERVER, and 3 XTRA_SERVER(s) were already there... the only thing that was added as a result of my changes is the SUPL_HOST/PORT listings and settings.
I would suggest you guys only add the following 2 lines to the bottom of what you already have in gps.conf using root explorer, I like ES File Explorer for editing files cause it has its own built in txt editor. Maybe you can play around with changing your NTP servers.. these work awsome for me.
SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com
SUPL_PORT=7276
In having said this, the main setting I found that helped the most is SSL for the SUPL server... which is an ON/OFF setting in Angry GPS. I will keep digging and see if I can find which file holds that toggle.
Perhaps you guys can try this and I'll see what else I can find.
Maniac
PS.... BACKUP YOUR ORIG gps.conf.. or copy the text.. anything.

When I did get a lock, I had the same problem with GPS before I found these settings.
Guys I haven't had the time to do more digging on the config files for Angry GPS.. just start 1st yr in college... I'm doing a programming course, and I love it so far.
Who knows.. in a little while I might reach the status of "Developer" on this site... I sure hope too... cause I got awsome ideas for apps.

Hey MrManiacNF,
I was wondering if you had any suggestions;
My GPS still gets faster fixes then before your tweak, but there is a really strange behavior now. I have a app that tells me how many fix I currently have (GPS Monitor) and extremely often, while using the GPS with Google Navigation, the fixes will drop to 0, and stay like this for some time. Then they will come back, and so forth. The thing is, I dont remember it doing that before, and its very frustrating because I lose my location and get lost lol
I just wanted to know if there was some settings I could change for the fixes to not drop all the time, or any idea that you might have.
Maybe some cautiousness, I have been trying this yesterday and ended up doing a nandroid restore because after setting AngryGPS settings every time gps was being accessed phone switched off instantly (i9001)... no matter even after setting AngryGPS settings back to original still the same. Every acces to gps results in switching off my phone (not even power down but instanst off)
