I am using dell streak 5 and new to this forum.
recently i learnt to flashout and install new ROM. I used gingerStreak2.4.4 by DJ_STEVE and it was wonderfull exprience to see it working faster than orignal one. But now I have problem with camera. I can click photos but when I put on the camera all i see is white screen and cannot see the objects in my screen. thought i can take photo.
PLease help anyone!!!
This is a common issue with all the Gingerbread ROMs. One of the apps you installed is not compatible with Gingerbread and thus causes the white screen. You either have to uninstall the offending app or see if the fix proposed for users of the DSC ROM (editing build.prop) works on GingerStreak.
In my case LBE Security was the offending app.
Thanks! You gave me the tip and I pulled the whole thing. The problem is solved and it works.
For novice like me.Here is what I did:
1. connect ur phone to internet via wireless
2. goto android market and install Root Browser [which is free]
3. using root browser you will be able to get into ur root files.
4.then goto /system/build.prop and searh for a line
debug.composition.type=gpu
Just change the gpu to mdp should look like below:
debug.composition.type=mdp
5. save it and reboot the phone.
It works like magic!!
In my case I chose to uninstall the offending app, because the benefits of GPU rendering outweighed the liabilities. But, I'm glad you solved the problem.

Hey can you tell me any future implications regarding the use of mdp instead of gpu. and the benifits of using gpu instead of mdp [searched for some comparison but couldnt find any]
and i see that the icon bar on top left while opening gallery, gets distroted. Any guess?
If you play games you may notice a change in performance, but that's about it. I'm curious however as to what the 407 ROM default is.
Hi Strephon,
Thanks for the info. I have observed that my phone shuts down frequently and i have to take out the battary put back and then restart. Any idea regarding this problem? This happened after I used the gingerStreak2.4.4 ROM. Initially there was no problem with the default one.
I can't help you there. I use the DSC ROM and have not encountered any of the issues you refer to, other than the white screen on the camera of course.

Hi all,
I've just registered to the forum but I've been visiting it for quite some time. I'm afraid my problem is being discussed in a thread but so far I was not able to find it.
I'm currently running CM7 J019 K007 with no reboots. Everything seems to work perfectly except for 2 things:
1. The camera is not working (not even in VGA). When I start the camera it appears to work but when I try to take a picture the image hangs and nothing happens unless I press the home button. The same applies to video.
2. I don't see the starting animation, is just a static image. And when I put a theme, even the default ones, there is no background, just a black screen.
I've tried several things to solve this and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I've done all the standard steps:
1. Flash bb
2. Wipe everything (partition, Dalvik, etc)
3. Flash ROM
4. Flash apps
5. Reboot
But still those 2 issues continue to happen. I've also tried with J017 and J018. Got them running without an issue except those 2.
Can anyone help me get this fixed?
Btw, I've also tried this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=949262
but still no solution.
Thanks for the help and sorry if it was posted somewhere else.
It is known that the camera might not be working in 2.3 roms.
Thanks aR_ChRiS,
I thought that too but in the threat that discusses CM7 it says the following:
-camera (almost done - works only on low res <=VGA)
And my camara doesn't work even at those resolutions.
Regarding the other issue, I think there must be a corrupt app package in the app zip file but the strange things are that I've downloaded it several times already and that everyone else doesn't seem to have this issue.

As J told in the thread. This release is only WLOD hunting. These have dissapeared so the coming days he will work on bug fixes and dalvik craches. He made almost a super stable CM7. Actually you can call it with this release stable but not fully functional.
On my phone my camera only work on 3mgp and video only works on low30mm.

As for animations they are off by default go to settings/display/animations then choose. The daufault boot screen is supposed to be a static image, that's the way its meant to be. You can change it if you have root explorer if you put this http://db.tt/X8BJiAb in either data/local/temp or or go to system/media and cut the file bootanimation.zip and paste to your SD card and then move the downloaded one to system/media. Don't unzip the file in either way. I think J said he was hoping to get the camera working soon but can only be done after Sony releases their 2.3. Hopefully this info shall help you out

Ok then, my bad with the animations since I thought the opening screen at boot was animated as it was in 6.something.
In any case, the mayor problem was the camera. I mean, I'm ok with not having 8Mb pictures, or only with 3Mb. But I'm not able to take pictures at all.
Anyway, I decided to go back to FreeX10 until something else comes along.
Thank you all for the help though
Oh my goodness, a new thread, I hate doing this but I haven't had any luck...
So here's the deal, my Streak's camera only shows greyscale on the screen while I am taking pictures or shooting video....
Once taken, the color is there in the photo or pic in the gallery or whatever app I open to view the photo or watch the video.
Honestly I have no idea when this could've started because since the Streak's camera is not the best in the world, I don't use it much, but I do occasionally use it to recognize a business or scan a document to send it to someone or something else to that effect.
What I have done lately to the phone is flashed the 354 baseband and dsp1 files to the phone. So logically I tried to flash to where I was before that, the 351 files, and had no luck with that, so I went back to the 354 files.
I have tried to look for some setting that I may have left in black and white or greyscale but haven't found anything that I may have done to cause this, doesn't mean it's not my fault, but I could definitely do with some ideas.
Thanks guys for any suggestions.
Worst case scenario I'd do a fresh flash of StreakDroid....oops, forgot to mention I was running StreakDroid 1.9
I would try to get the camera.apk file from 1.9.0 (unzip the zip, then system, then app, then camera.apk (I think)) and try installing that after uninstalling your camera app. If that doesn't work then it's a little far out to fix. You can always try a factory reset and reflash if that doesn't work.

Well I tried got rid of the camera apk with Root Explorer but then it wouldn't let me reinstall it.
Well then I try to adb push the app but then got uid errors so I said the heck with it and did a fresh flash of StreakDroid

Did this fix the problem?
I just noticed this for the first time, myself. I did a factory reset/re-flash of 1.9.0 a few days ago, and I suspect that's when this started.

Yeah, I dunno what I may have done to prompt the behavior, I'm sure I made some adjustment or installed something that affected it.
So I just started from scratch and flashed StreakDroid anew....
Each time I flash I do somethin in the order of things different and each time it gets smoother and smoother

I ran into this problem as well as another person. They discovered that it was LBE. Once I uninstalled LBE, the color issues were fine.
Did you have LBE installed?

Well I don't have the problem now that I flashed StreakDroid again but I sure wanna know what LBE is... forgive me for being dense but for the life of me I can't make out what that stands for sgood
Not sure what it stands for but its an app I found on xda and does permissions based blocking of apps. Kind of like iptables
Some people were having the same issue at streak.modaco.com and some found LBE Privacy Guard to be the issue and one person said Chainfire3D may be an issue.
In the SimpleStreak rom thread some users were attributing this to having stagefright installed. I do not use stagefright and have no idea what it is, just passing on the observation.

Yep that's the one and removing it fixed my issues.
vThanks
Thankyou,
I found that a reboot fixed the problem but i also have chainfire 3D installed so I was wondering if that caused the problem as I dont use the camera very often
Hey, i have a similar issue and dont have either of those apps installed. I can across the thread below first and posted my question here:
[Q] camera and video playback in black and white.
I am a noob. Both threads appear to discuss the same issue. Should i post to this thread?
Hi all,
I was wondering whether anyone had any theories why some apps I've paid for disappear when using different ROM's / Phones.
The Apps I can use as an example, are as follows:-
1. Exchange by Touchdown Key by NitroDesk, Inc
2. RootTools by JRummy16
3. 360 Live by Juan Xavier Larrea
For example, while using Lite'ning ROM v6.0 on my SGS2, all those apps were available. But when I changed ROM's to the SensatioN ROM by Crysis, they disappeared.
Similarly, on my X10i when I upgraded to 2.3.3 they all disappeared. And because this happened without any tweaking, i.e. it was using Sony's release without ROOT'ing, I contacted Android Market Support and this was their explanation in relation to the Touchdown Key.
"Thanks for writing back. It appears in a recent update by the developer,
they changed the screen requirements of the app, it now only supports
Normal, 160 (density) screens. The specs on your device show as Normal 240
(density). So to continue using this app you will need to contact the
developer and request the 240 be added into the app."
So with that response in mind, I'm trying to figure out why there is a difference on my SGS2 when I switch between Lite'ning ROM and the SensatioN ROM.
Any thoughts? Does anyone know why I am seeing these differences between two ROM's? Is this something to do with tweaks within these ROM's and the density that Market Support is talking about above? Or the old problem of footprinting?
There's no way to definitively answer your question, unless you know the particular applications as well as the developers.
Yes, a lot of ROMs have different LCD Density values. If it is just down to LCD Density then that's a very simple fix. Try setting it back to 240 (default value) and see if the application reappear. I've never heard of apps not showing in the Market due to LCD Density though. I think you've just been fobbed off there, but I'm not 100% sure - just about 99%.
In case you don't know, to set LCD Density you need a rooted phone. Edit /system/build.prop and find the value in there. You can do this manually with something like Root Explorer (my personal choice), or there are apps that set LCD Density available on the Market, but lots of them don't persist the change for long.
Thanks for the reply mate.
Yeah, my phone(s) is rooted. I'll do a few tests with an App I saw on the market (LCDDensity for Root) and see if that makes any difference to the market content...
Funnily enough, I stumbled across this post from searching for that app in Google...

I'm surprised by that, but if that's what it does then that's what it does! Have you tried browsing for apps in the market on your PC? Obviously your PC doesn't know what your current LCD Density setting is on your phone, so it may not be relevant.
Maybe remote install from the website is the way to go.
Different ROMs are based from different builds, which can also include for which device as well.
So if the rom you are using announces itself as htc sensation, your samsung only apps goes missing in market, and vice versa!
Android market allows the developer to choose which brands/model phones they want the app to be used by.

Is that relevant though? I thought that all the ROMs for the S2 were based on the Samsung ROMs. There's certainly no HTC ROMs available for it.
Of course, the developer can put in the build.prop (I believe) whatever they want, but why would they do that?
Well, so far, as far as I can tell, the LCD Density hasn't helped....
I also cannot install "remotely" from the market website as the market website says "This item is not compatible with your device".
I've also tried this... without any success...

I found the solution to the market downloading problem! For anyone who has been having the Market Downloading issue with this ROM do the following and it should fix your issue. It fixed the issue for me and a co-worker.
To fix the market you go in manage applications:
1. Find Google frame work, clear all data and then force stop
2. Find Market.apk – then clear cache & data, then force stop.
3. Then, open ROM manager and fix permissions.
4. After the permissions have been fix, boot into Clockwork from ROM manager. And then format the Cache Partition.
5. Now reboot and test.

Hmmm... strange...
Hello,
I already put this in "Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting" but I think it's a dev subject.
So:
I'm trying to make a slim ROM starting from stock 207, without BE, sound enhancement, etc.
Using Elixir (Wakelock does not shows everything) I discovered that this apk uses a lot of CPU, it's the champion.
Then I tried to disable all bravia stuff in settings and also in build.prop (swiqi2.enable=false): no effect.
I also deleted /etc/be*. But this process continues to eat cpu all the time, when you watch a video or simply scrowls a list. It seems that it filters the whole video flow.
Last step: freezing SwiqiSettingsService. In this case, video playing becomes very very laggy (totaly unusable, using stock player or Mx gives the same result), BUT the phone becomes so much responsive.
If someone knows how to totaly wipe bravia/swiqi stuff from the phone (or want to investigate that) ... it will be a great improvment for those who don't care about this kind of "enhancement".
Thanks.
Some news:
Uninstalling GoogleBackupTransport.apk, you can also uninstall SwiqiSettingsService.apk with no lags in video playing (also need to disable the things in 1st post).
I have no idea for an explication ... but it works fine until now ...
This is more for the Cross-Development section

Until now I didn't see any side effect, but it can make time to discover one...
I'll post my system/app list later.
An other problem is that there are dozens of posts on xda talking about system apps safe to remove with bad informations in them.
I never found a clean list wich explains each funcionalities of each system app, and more important their dependencies between them.
You can make a test using "system app remover" for example: turn off all enhancement in settings, then remove GoogleBackupTransport and Swiqi. If you have troubles you can put them back using SystemAppRemover.
Next step for me is to evaluate if Stamina is important in the way I use my phone: basically I like to use functionalities manually. If I want to sync I enable sync, if I want to use data connection I turn it on and then off, etc...
Stamina is certainly usefull for who let the phone connected all the time, but in this case I don't know.
this is what i am looking for long time. some one clarify it more?????
@sambastrakan
you made this thread when super vivid mode from z3 was not introduced yet
I had tried freezing or uninstalling swiqisettingsservice and video playback will lag :crying: until BE libs are completely removed via android tweaker 2
but since super vivid mode is ported, freezing or uninstalling swiqisettingsservice still give me enchanted color and without lag
i've tried both in movies & mx player
btw, did you notice gaming performance & ram improvement after removing such features?

Thanks for your advice. But I'm running CM11 for a few months now: no more problem!
From what I remember I had about 480Mb free RAM with my "slim" 207 fw. But I remember too that in an other attempt (clean install then uninstalling apps) the lags were back ... So GoogleBackupTransport was not the guilty .... Actually I don't know how and why I had no lags in a previous slim rom version (without swiqi). Total mystery ! And no more mystery with CM11 from MrSteve555.
Draw lines settings.apk because not much point getting the apk and remove the lines from build.prop if there still lines the wild in their configurations.
Thank you :good:
Hello,
I've been looking around for an application that tracks application installs.
Especially for malware installs.
Let me explain the situation:
I've got a smartphone with installed apks (all legal from the playstore)
After a while I am trying to find out what problems are causing some random ad popups (about dating for those who are interested) it's caused by an apk called recents.
I always delete that program. But it seems that it reinstalls itself, every now and than.
also since today I've got an shortcut on my main screen that is called coobrowser (not coolbrowser although it has the same icon image, tried to find out where it came from but I can't find an apk either)
I know some applications:
os monitor is a good one though it doesn't accomplish my needs. (I can see the connections but there it stops)
Catlog doesn't make me any wiser
I hope someone know what I'm talking about and has this kind of application in reach.
TLDR: In need of an application install tracker that monitors which applications open a port for another application install (read malware)
I have the same issue with my phone.
When I clicked app info it turned out to be called trebuchet.
What type of phone do you have?
Yes exactly that's what I get too,
Jiayu S3
That is built into their os. It is made to reinstall if it detects it is Uninstalled. It's not an app that is doing it but the OEM of the device. It is known that many of the Chinese devices do this to counter the cheap prices of the device. Your only option would be to build an aosp based rom if you can.

I've got the same phone and the same issue started to appear recently. First the "recents" app, now the "coobrowser". The orginal Trebuchet icon is gone. Not sure if this is a virus or feature from JiaYu. How to tacke this without crafting my own ROM as mentioned?

Yeah I've managed to remove recents (since this was causing random ad popups)
I've got the exact same problem. Just want to know how to track it down
I can't see any other option than installing a different ROM, because the stock one is strange regarding security. For example every reboot resets "install apk from unknown sources " to YES, which is fishy. Bye bye stock rom, I liked it at the beginning but with these issues I am forced to switch.

I've just noticed they have published the official rom for android 5.1 http://www.needrom.com/download/17-09-android-5-1-for-the-jiayu-s3/
I decided to avoid the official ROM as the problems I experienced were with the previous official ROM. I went for the "rom-xtreme-rom-tf"
So far so good, but don't you try to uninstall the Google Now app from android 5, I was unable to boot doing so.
