WiFi refuses to turn on... - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Seriously I really hate to be a complainer, and start another one of these threads. But I have no choice....got my Prime today from BB and well everything else works fine.....except the WiFi won't turn on....after a few mins of it "turning on" it says "error"....
Did several wipes and factory reset...nothing
Called ASUS and he tells me do everything I already did....
I also downloaded lastest firmware off of ASUS site and updated...still nothing....
I think they forgot my antennas...lol
Help please! And thanks.....

Nothing huh?
Ok.....

That sucks. RMA it and complain like crazy until they give you free stuff. Tell them its unacceptable especially after having to wait so long to get it.

Well that's insightful...except it was like this out the box...

Have you tried resetting the wifi router or trying a different wifi location? Wifi can have compatibility problems when mixing wifi specifications. Also routers sometime assign an IP without the device properly connecting and then not releasing it properly.
I have this problem with my Nexus One every now and again. Reboot the router usually fixes it. I also had a Windows Mobile phone in the dark ages of my life that only connected to 1 or 2 of the 10 different wifi spots I would hit.
Other than that sounds like an RMA is in your future.

Ok let me be clearer....the WiFi on the Prime won't turn on...not connect...it just won't turn on...which means it doesn't get as far as connecting...

That stinks =(
Will BT turn on? And have you tried getting a GPS lock? Just some additional things to mention when and if you RMA.

Bluetooth works fine.....don't really care about GPS...with WiFi it'll work....

Can you explain "won't turn on"? Because when I would have this happen on other Android Devices there was not much feedback between turning on or connecting. You basically would check the box and nothing would happen. I would have to use a log monitor, 3rd party app or login to the router to get more information on the process.
Of course, the Prime is my first Honeycomb device, so maybe it gives more feedback then I am used too.
If it definitely is not actually coming on then it is certainly defective and you should return it or RMA. I would recommend returning because you deserve a new device and not a repaired one. Also its unlikely a retailer would check for any rooting.

Try draining the battery till its turns off by itself then charge for a couple of ours and see it loads the driver

Did the Wifi ever work? Mine was set up automatically when I first turned the tablet on. Did you go through that initial setup as well? Did it fail to connect from the beginning? I never had to "turn mine on" from the start. Did you disable the wifi radio at some point for some reason?

Thanks will try but I did do a factory reset and data wipe (hold down vol down and power) and that didn't work....

I don't know linux but I think there is a command called dmesg or something like that that will log the last few things that are going on. Maybe with a terminal app you could get a log right as you try to enable wifi. Some one might know the.command.

I'm not good with the command stuff, but ill try anything to figure this out...
Anyone knows if/how I can use 'wireless tether' on my phone to get a connection using the Bluetooth option instead of WiFi? Thanks.

If it didn't work on the initial boot when you got it, then I would assume there's an issue with your wifi radio. I would call ASUS and RMA it. No reason it shouldn't work from stock. Software won't fix that.

Or hope best buy B&M have them by next week and exchange it...

Random Wifi Disconnection

Anybody have their SGS2 disconnect the Wifi randomly, even when the phone is under active usage (no internet usage though). My Wifi sleep policy is set to never so it shouldn't be the culprit although it seems like the case.
Anybody encountered similar problem? Or is it due to an app of mine or I got a faulty set?
Never.

Hmm I suspect it has got to do with my apps or something but I just couldn't single out the culprit.
Mine has done that since I got it two months ago. It stayed that way through four stock firmwares and all of the Lite'ning Roms. I typically have to reset it to get it working...

I noticed that Wifi Sharing is taking up the biggest portion of my battery life and I suspect it is the cause of my problem.. Any idea how to solve it?
Ooh dude, so many threats about it! Use Bloat Freezer or Titanium Backup to 'freeze' Wifi Sharing. This disables your phone from detecting and launching the program until you want to 'unfreeze' it again.
It's a way to actually turn off applications.

Wifi randomly disconnecting. For me, turning it off and then back on again fixes it, but only for a little while. It's an issue I've had since the phone was new, despite trying four different factory firmwares and 5 custom roms.
The wifi sharing bug is a different issue but you will need to root your phone to fix that. No root, no fix. I suspect the official 2.3.4, when it's released, will have a fix for that though.

Thanks. But it's weird that I can hardly find anybody else sharing the same bug except for you. I suspect it may be related to some apps or we got a bad batch..
There are actually quite a few, but most don't start a new thread to try and report it. I've seen several threads discussing it and it's also mentioned in a few of the custom rom threads in the development section.
I'm going to start trying different modems and see if that fixes it...

I'm having the same problem here. I've tried 3 stock firmwares including the new 2.3.4 firmware. Like the other guy says, you can fix it by turning wifi off and on again. I'd still like a proper fix though.

I had this problem with my nexus s, being a network engineer it seemed to me to be like a dhcp problem, I went to my router and low and behold my phone had been given about 20 IP addresses. I gave it a static address of 192.168.1.5 correlating to its Mac address (subnet dependent of course), and it worked fine after that... Give it a try guys I think it's a router compatibility problem, or just gremlins in the tube

Try giving it a static address to see if it solves the issue. Are you still connceted to the router when the data stops transmitting, or do you lose the icon at the top and disconnect completely?

Well, about that... I'm now running Lite'ning Rom v2.0 with KG1_CF-Root_CWM_kernel_by_sorg (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15541364&postcount=1118).
I have also changed my router from g back to mixed (b/g/n).
My problem seems to have gone away now. I'll wait and see what happens, but will try your suggestions if it comes back.
When I was having issues, the wifi icon at the top was still there and also showed that I was connected. My mobile data connection was not active. Everything seemed to indicate that I was connected to wifi, yet when I tried to connect to market, RSS feeds or the XDA app it said that there was no connection.

[Q] ICS

with the new ICS coming just around the corner, I have tried to do so research on it, but still do not know a couple of things, is it smoother, and there seem to be a wifi issue, sometimes I have to keep manually connecting to the wifi after unlocking the screen, will that still be an issue. I think for me that was one of the big issues sothey must have fixed it with the ICS update.
Wifi has not been resolved. I am fine when not hibernating but even with it set to stay on it always disconnects when the screen goes off or in the cradle. Sucks but nothing I lose sleep over.

The wifi issue is easily solved by downloading "Advanced Wifi Lock" from the market. Just install that and it's instantly fixed!

Issue hasn't been resolved YET. ICS has not been released and as far as I am aware 3.2.1r2 was the last update issued anywhere and the WiFi issue was only just starting to become apparent when that was pushed out. Give Sony a chance to work it out.

But the issue if its even called an issue, the feutre I would like is when Im downloading something the needs the internet I would like for it to keep the internet connection active/on while it goes into standby mode where the screen goes black on its own depending how many minutes if you have the timer for, or if you manualyy put it in lock mode by hitting the power button one time.

Which firmware version are you on then?? Mine is THMAS0032400.
Here I am again, and mine also have the "never disconnect wifi" option selected and works ok. I put a big file copying from my lan, then the tab entered in the standby mode, and after a while I checked again and the file was copied, so no connection dropped in my case. And I also remembered that even in standby I hear the new emails notification and the green light starts blinking also, so no drops here.
Mine has THMAS0112400, 3.2.1 r2, kernel 2.6.36.3, Portuguese edition.

GPS Kit Issues

This might be a duplicate thread, i looked but didnt see one... anyways....
got my dongle today. nothing but problems. i had 5 random reboots in the little over 30 minutes that i had the dongle attached. There was also a HUGE reduction in overall performance. The weirdest thing is that it kept getting stuck in landscape mode after the dongle was removed. I had to reboot to get it back to portrait. Also drained over 20% of my battery in those 30 minutes.
the GPS did work extremely well though.
Has anyone had any of these issues?
You running latest firmware .21?

he must be or else the dongle wouldnt work. i would highly doubt the dongle is causing reboots. cant really see any reason why it would. i havent had any of those issues. device performs just fine with dongle on or off.
I'd say op best bet is to reboot. cut power off n leave off for a few seconds then cut power back on and see how things act. if things still acting funny, try a soft reset. you do this by putting a paperclip in the little hole underneath the memory card slot. you will see the prime reset and reboot. then try dongle and everything else then.

Glad it seems to work so far. Alot of times, a reset will clear up any software mishaps that happen. Same as with installing some apps. They usually tell you that if you experience issues, try rebooting/reseting to clear issue up. The device restarts with the program or whatever more settled in.

Kinda/sorta..lol. soft reset is a more drastic reboot, IMO. its usually used if the prime freezes up or starts acting up alot. You even have another kind that I believe is called a cold boot or a hard boot or something. That involves holding power button and volume down at the same time(while power is still on, I believe) until prime reboots. Then keep hold it until you see some lettering across the top of the screen. Then let go. Then it'll say device will reset/reboot if nothing is pressed within a few seconds.
I always do it in order if the previous one didn't work or fix problem. A regular reboot(power off then on again), then a soft reset, then a cold/hard boot.

Then you submitted it 10 days ahead of its actual release, you should really only be counting from the 16th. That means it's only been 7 business days since the dongle has been shipping. That's not much.
Plus it seems to me that everyone who registered early seems to be in the same boat. I ordered 4/17 and am also in the same boat; something makes me think they're going to try and deny it or something since I listed the date I actually received the Prime in the mail as the purchase date. Not really, lol, I'm sure I'll get it, just wish it would hurry up >.>
On the 30th (1st for me) is when everyone should start making a real fuss. 10 business days is plenty of time to get something like this shipped out.

The main problem is your location. When the boat leaves China, first it has to navigate past the troubled waters by the Koreas and Indonisia. Once clear of that, it will wait for a Naval ship to be near it in case of Pirates by Somalia. Once clear of that, it has to time it's trip around the African Cape with good weather....Once past that...again wait for Naval protection as it goes up the Abrian sea, thru the Suez Canal. After it clears the Suez, it again has to be careful of the flareups in the Mid-East. After it clears all that, it's clear sailing (or steaming) to England. However, once it gets there, it is again delayed because it has to wait for a slot to clear in port since all the slots are taken up with ships unloading parts and equipment for the Olympics. But first, Perishable food comes first.
Hope this helps explain the difficulty you have.

What a Patronising post
I am 45 years old not 5
Like I said They should not have announced etc untill they was in position to deliver
A soft reset didn't solve the reboot issue for me. Whenever the dongle is in, my tablet is liable to reboot, whether it's actively working or idle. Reboots appear to be independent of power mode and whether satellite location service is on or off.
I noticed early on that it also wasn't autorotating, but I think only before the first reboot. I didn't notice any extraordinary battery drain, although I didn't have it on for all that long.

Its not rebooting or anything from what I've seen. Gonna reboot it again and let it settle to see if it does better.

The person I talk to on the other end hears what I say 3 to 5 seconds after I say it into the phone. This has been going on for days now and also happens with a friends Amaze at his own place.
What in the world am I suppossed to do now , since its impossible to have a normal conversation with people.
Anyone else have this issue? I am about this sell this phone now. I am not rooted and stock so I cant revert back to GB

I read that app only works for when you pick up the phone and there is a delay. Ill give it a try though. It gets extremely annoying talking to someone and then they start talking thinking I am not talking and my 5 second delay cuts them off.

ya ik what you mean try it if it works your all set if it don't i'll look for something to help you out im just on www.xxxxda.com lmfao just waiting on new energy ics rom update i hope
Yep, an issue since the first ics leak and I have no clue how to fix it. Me and GG have been complaining about this for awhile
Yup... Known issue since the first leak... It gets worse as conversation goes on. I just said **** it and installed quick-sense and selected to remove WiFi calling. I can't believe tmo put the option in a device on gb, it didn't work, so they update to ics, and don't fix it? Smh fail

Word.
Anyways, I talked to the tech department about it and the girl knew everything about it.
She set me up with a service ticket and they would check things out, but we both dont think much of it.
Shes going to call me back in 3 days. She said that its not a device issue, that its an OS issue, which I already knew.
She said after the 3 days we will probably do the warranty exchange. She doesnt know if the replacement phones will have will ICS or GB though but if its GB, dont update to ICS because its a known wifi calling bug. That is if they even have the amaze to replace with. I dont mind waiting because I am curious what there going to say.
So you're going to exchange your phone because wifi calling doesn't work properly? A little extreme, no?

I dont get service in my apartment. I rely on it to make all my phone calls when I am home. Without it, its almost useless. Having a conversation where the person on the other end doesnt answer you for a few seconds cuz its delayed is pretty annoying. Not to mention when they start talking again because they think I havent answered, and then it cuts them off, and there is a WTF moment lol
Yeah this is annoying I've had people click on me because they think I'm playing with them or calling to mess with them.. Hopefully tmo fixes the issue soon

Yeah I just dont wanna go through the trouble of signal booster when Wifi calling is supposed to work just fine yano? The girl said alot of people have been calling with issues about the new update and there working with HTC to try and correct them.
I am running stock on my phone. I was thinking about messing with the phone but I dont like the idea of messing up the warranty when I use it a few times during the year

this is good news. guess this means we'll possibly be getting another leak soon...
Anyone ever factory reset the phone and see if the issue gets fixed at all?
Of course I told them I did it to avoid that nonsense, but now I am considering it. Just dont wanna lose all the work I put into with using facebook pictures for peoples faces when they call. Apps I can always re download
Whats even more annoying is I had the phone for 1 month and havent even begun to pay me 20 dollar a month for 20 months payments! So in the end if they send me another, Im paying for a refurb phone lol. Honestly thinking about when the GS3 comes out, selling my amaze, paying off what I owe with the money I get for it, then restarting a payment plan all over for the GS3. Yeah thats overthinking right there.

Also, I see that my lynksys router firmware is from 2008 and has an update. I wonder if updating the firmware mix help. Its just a firm believer when it comes to routers, if it aint broke, dont fix it lol

Yes. I've reset and flashed new roms. It doesn't help. I also have a 4yr old linksys wireless n crap router though... And some ppl say WiFi calling works fine with them. I haven't tried on a netgear

I wonder if people dont realize the problem cause they dont talk on the phone much.
My wireless N linksys router is 4 years old also.

its an ics bug. you could have the best router in the world and it will still lag
Yeah heres my own personal fix. Hang up the phone and call back every ten minutes
So in reality, rooting a phone only affects the manufacturer warranty? Something I will never and have never needed to use.
I have premium handset protection with T-Mobile. If I need to exchange through t-mobile or asurion, all I need to do is unroot it right?
Hmm Now I need to go learn how to do all this to get back to GB.

Anyone else not liking the wifi issue/bluetooth audio?

Its starting to bug me, especially the wifi while screen is off being disabled when I have not selected that anywhere. Also definitely feels spotty and doesnt load all my data right away when I turn screen on, like its slow. No way I should have to use keepalive app for wifi to remedy this. Bluetooth audio in my car sounds pretty bad. It cant just be my device as others have reported similar findings.
What are your thoughts, will you deal with this and just keep your device?
Have you possibly thought about another device?

This phone is new. 1st software release for our ATT phones. Report those bugs to HTC/ATT, they will address it. Fixes will come in future updates if the devs dont fix them first. All new phones have bugs, all. They normally get fixed
It was also before but all started 2 years ago when they were fiddling with battery to last longer.
When you stream music WiFi to router and then amp when screen is off it can effect constant playback.
But you figured out what's caused it.
Even with mp3 not only heavy flacs.

Yes my bluetooth call quality is bad. My earpiece call quality is fuzzy and buzzes. Am I the only one?
*EDIT* After unrooting, relocking the bootloader, factory reset, all that fun stuff, the call quality finally corrected. Then got worse again. I figured out that it was my Google account screwing around with settings because whether you set it to or not, it tries to restore your previous settings. After wiping out that account and rebooting, call quality is wonderful.

Yes I was getting ready to go to the AT&T store to swap for one with a non defective earpiece. But I wiped my primary Gmail account from the phone, rebooted, plugged it in to charge for a little while so I could do some schoolwork and call quality was fine. So I don't know if it pulled over bad settings from my old inspire or what. Try the call quality while there is no Google account signed in after the reboot.

I tried it without any Google account set up. No luck for me. I even wiped my phone clean and did a factory reset just to test it out. Didn't work. Oh well.

I have no problem with Wifi. Just to clarify: You have the AT&T version, you run the phone as it was shipped and you run no task killer? If the Wifi disconnects the symbol in the notification bar disappears?

Lol, yes correct that how WiFi is suppose to work on devices. I have zero WiFi issues myself. When it's enabled and i connect to say my home wifi it appears on my device and stays connected all throughout my home. Flawless for me. When wifi is disconnected or turned off well of course it is no longer displayed on the notification bar, it's turned off or not connected, why would it still be displayed up there?

I just wanted to make sure that the lack of push notification that some see is really due to a disconnect of wifi. If the wifi symbol is still there and they don't get push notifications it is probably something else...I saw many people complaining about hardware defects and in 50% of cases it was because they used task killers or battery "optimizers" that disabled sync and other important processes.

Well, I was serious. Then after an overnight charge the problem started again. Still fuzzy and buzzy on the earpiece. More a problem with volume than frequency. Its the same as the bluetooth call quality. Reminds me of when A/V pregain is set far higher than postgain for manual distortion control. I think the values for volume amplification are screwed up somewhere. I like the phone, I just don't wanna deal with crappy call quality forever. I could even deal with the bootloader locking if the other issues would get fixed (well. I already have my code.). Got five days to make a call on keep it or exchange before the no questions asked 14 day exchange window for AT&T closes.
UPDATE: Update on the earpiece. I was just about to swap it out but then during the call it stopped buzzing and became clear. It did this when I took it away from my face and did something onscreen during the call. If it was a hardware issue, it would do it every call and during the whole call in my opinion.

Just curious, have you checked the following settings: Click "Settings" > "Wi-Fi" > "Menu" > "Advanecd" > "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" > "Always"
