Rooted with eclair and can't get rom manager - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay. I have successfully rooted my vibrant that I bought on ebay with eclair 2.1 update1. I just followed a video by the unlockr guy. The problem is that I am on eclair 2.1update1, so it seems I cannot get rom manager free to install and thus flash clockworkmod recovery because rom manager doesn't support eclair. My question is what do I do from here to get to gingerbread and then ultimately the ics passion rom? I've rooted several devices before and know what to do once I have clockworkmod to boot into from rom manger but I have never rooted a device with eclair. I am admittedly confused and need some help. Thanks in advance for anyone willing to tolerate my inexperience with this particular issue.

Go through the sticky at the top of the page and use the update.zip method to install clockwork

rom manager isnt supporting 2.1 anymore

So to make sure I am clear. From where I am at now with root on eclair2.1update1, just copy the update.zip(the 1.7 mb one right?) from the sticky onto the phone, reboot holding volume up and down and power and reinstall package? I am truly sorry for my ignorance here but this vibrant is just not as easy to play around with as other phones and tabletss I have rooted.

option A update.zip will root your phone .
if you have the Rom you want to flash Transferred to your phones internal SD arlread use option B update.zip and once in recovery flash the Rom .
P.S It is true Rom Manager no longer supports Eclair . Kind of stupid IMO

also you have to do reinstall packages twice

So I just decided to do the odin root method and finally got my vibrant rooted and flashed ice cream sandwich. Just one more question. Is it possible that wifi calling will be added to ics on the vibrant? Thanks for the help guys.

Neobuddy is not able to test this himself, and is working with people in the US to try and solve the issue. Unfortunately he said the issue doesn't look like it's going to be resolved any time soon.

Correct, get the update.zip from the sticky and this will install CWR for you. I use Super One Click to root my vibrant (just make sure to follow the directions, I've forgotten to turn on debug mode and thrown things that didn't need to be thrown!)

WHAT IS A STICKY !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Im a NOOB !

It is a thread that is permanently stuck in the forum. They are always at the top of the section (ie General, Q&A, Development)

You should read up on the encryption unsuccessful bug if your going to run ice cream sandwich. Beware of the consequences at least.

(REQ)vibrant custom bootloader

high community i have been trying to change the ugly vibrant boot splash but i cant seem to find a way .i almost did but the package was removed due to some one complaining about the dev. i know it can be done because im running the gingerbread boot loaders for the vibrant but i wanted to change the image to the google image like in the nexus any ideas?
If you're already on the gb bootloaders you can use this guide. It's in the Captivate forums, but also works on the Vibrant. Worked perfectly for me.

These will not be compatible with CM7 (due to the proprietary fs used on param.lfs)...
straight from that op, if i need to explain why that doesnt work with ICS then you shouldnt be trying to do this in the first place

No explanation needed I know this but I'd figure I give it a go anyways however I'm actually working on a rom that is free from Google in every way . There are some very disturbing things about how Google collects and saves info on us all .if I'm unsuccessful then I'll get a blackberry or just a no frills phone .thanks

ICS Update Un Rooted My Phone... Quick ?

Hopefully I posted this in the right forum, If not please move it!
Ok, So I updated my phone via Kies and got the official ICS update (Finally) for my AT&T Galaxy Note, Problem is, as expected... it unrooted my phone and I'd like it rooted again, I want to keep the new official stock ICS rom and just want it rooted again to delete all that garbage bloatware to keep my phone sharp, any help?
Do i just re-root it doing it the same way I did before?
Will it ruin my new ICS rom?
Can anyone link me to the files that will root my phone but keep the ICS Stock Rom?
I didnt have a single problem Rooting it the first time on ginerbread, but Im not sure what will happen with a different official rom installed. Just dont wanna have to reinstall ICS again or something, when I just spent about an hour setting it back to how I had everything, then remembered updating unrooted me.
Any advice or help is really appreciated!
Thanks!
Not really in right section more like a Q&A section.
However the devs need a little time to sort through all the code but these guys are smart and root will come soon and they will proudly announce it. Just enjoy for now.

ok so just do odin again liek i did before?
And I hope im not asking too much, but can anyone link me to the files I need directly? The last ones I used was from a source outside of XDA (xda was down for maintenance) and I think it gave me a virus on my computer and after doign a system restore today i dont wanna do that again lol. so if its not a problem can someone link me to the right files i need?
Thanks everyone!
Yes.
Now look one post above your last one.
To see the links Mr. Joe is referencing you need to be on a pc.
To install CWM you need to be on a pc.
To root you need a pc.
Mr.Joe would only post trusted links.

I successfully updated my Note to ICS yesterday and want to root it again as well. I looked through the Note section in BigJoe's thread, but can't figure out exactly what files I need. I rooted it with Gingerbread without issue. I've looked through the unlocking/rooting section and the one thread that explains how to root specifically says that the method will NOT work with the official ICS update.
Sorry to sound so dense, but could someone link exactly which files I/we need to root the official ICS via Odin?
What you asked for is in the third post.

downgrading to 2.3 to be able to root and go to ICS?

Hello,
Have done some searches and I just wanted to see if this is right as my Note was rooted with Gingerbread 2.3 and I stupidly upgraded with Kies to the official AT&T ICS software and lost my root. I have just a few questions.
Would the only way to get a rooted stock ICS rom on the phone (such as those available in the forum) be to downgrade to Gingerbread and root (which I have done before) then install one of the custom "stock" roms to have ICS but have root access? Or am I completely out of luck on rooting a stock ICS Note?
If so, could someone direct me to the thread with downgrading to gingerbread, as a search has not helped me to find instructions for doing so, and with all of the information on this site, I believe it has to be there and that I a just missing it?
Feel free to delete my post if I am completely lost and have posted erroneously in the wrong forum or anything to that effect.

Root with odin like you would on gb but on ICS. Just try the cm9 roms though, it will change your life
You do not need to downgrade to GB to root. What you need to do is boot the phone into download mode, and use Odin to flash a custom recovery (such as CWM). Once you have the custom recovery flashed, you can boot into recovery mode and flash the Superuser or Supersu zip file to give you root. Using this method is the most foolproof way.

and, you would get better answers if you would post a question in the Q&A thread, not in general...
Look in the custom rom section of this loser's thread...he is such a loser...make sure you flame the hell out of him, but here is his link....
go the custom rom section...you will the awesome ics offical already root...and debloated, and one thread has the pure virgin stock ics ....blah blah blah....

[Q] Most efficient way to root my Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-19300 international?

I'm somewhat of an android newbie right now, I've had my S3 for about 2 months, First of all i was wondering if rooting would void the warranty, that being said what's the best and most efficient way to root it? Thanks.

Use Odin to flash CF-Root, really easy stuff.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238
When you need repair or anything, you have to use Triangle Away to reset binary count and set it official status. So technically, rooting does void warranty but it can be reset.

Everything you need to know about rooting and factory reset is explained in those links! Good luck and have fun!

Thanks a lot! I'm going to give it a try right now.
By the way, if i do manage to root, would I be able to do the official Jelly Bean update once it comes out?
EDIT: The rooting process does seem simple enough, the ''THIS IS A DANGEROUS OPERATION AND COULD POTENTIALLY BRICK YOUR DEVICE. PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK. A USB JIG IS PREFERRED IF YOU HAVE A WORKING ONE.'' on the Triangle Away page has me concerned though.
I'm surprised that nobody is never talking about this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488.
Worked like a charm in a few minutes, nothing to care about, installs drivers, no need to download Odin, and you're rooted and recovery installed.
A must in my opinion.
What are the differences between installing that and installing CF?
I used the toolkit. Complete root newbie 3 days ago, I now have ROM Omega v28 running Jellybean 4.1.1 flashed siyah kernel, switched my sd card with my 32gb ext card so now I have much more space for storing apps and games and over clocked device to make it run faser
Flashed a fair few mods so my s3 looks ace and performs like a dream
Root using the toolkit 5.0 as in the post above it only took about 5 mums and that was only because I was really slow and cautious.

Would i be able to install Cyanogen mod if i root it with toolkit?
Yes you would. The method you use to root is just that, a method to give you the super user access you need to do all the weird and wonderful things you can do with a rooted device.
Once rooted, using the toolkit will install clockwork mod recovery on your device and you would use this to flash the ROM of your choosing. It takes just a minute or so to flash the ROM too, I was surprised and pleasantly so at how quick and easy it all was.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Argghh, is there any full guide on how to root, install jelly bean then flash the cyanogen mod?
I used the following you tube guide.
Just don't worry about the toolkit versions being different its just been updated since then
It literally takes minutes..
Watch the video a few times over like I did though.. And the toolkit tells you what to do next.. It's all very clear.
Once done, install root checker and it will confirm if you are rooted
With the ROM I don't think you need to install JB, the ROM should be ICS or JB and come included with the ROM
I was determined to go with CyagenMod but I went for Omega.. So glad I did...

Once rooted to flash a ROM you just save the ROM zip file to the SD card
Boot into recovery (power button, home button and volume up) and just choose the option 'install from SD card' find the ROM zip file, confirm the install and sit back and let it do its thing.

odin and cf root for sure
I have successfully rooted my device, thanks for all the people that helped me root it. Now, should i go for omega or cyanogenmod? Cyanogen does look nicer to be honest.

For returning your device back to original condition I would recommend taking a look at this guide, it will show you how to re-flash the stock ROM for your device. As far as a custom recovery is concerned I would recommend taking a look at this thread where you can download Clockworkmod Recovery for your device. Let me know if you still have questions .

The first step is to root your device using SuperOneClick, next flash Clockworkmod Recovery following the instructions in that thread, finally download Cyanogenmod 9 (Which is based on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich) and flash it using the instructions in that thread. After that you will have a custom ROM on your device (Note before flashing Cyanogenmod make sure to backup all your apps, media, contacts, etc. that you don't want wiped when installing a new ROM, Titanium Backup is a great application for doing this, things such as your contacts can be synced to your Google account and then restored when setting up your device for the first time after flashing Cyanogenmod 9). Let me know if you have any questions I'll be happy to answer them.

Does the program force close and do you get "SuperOneClick is Not Responding" or similar error? Which root method do you have checked in SuperOneClick?
