I'm guessing you mean the boot animation (after the Samsung Galaxy Tab screen)?
system/media/bootanimation.zip
If you're rooted, and have write permissions set, replace the file with another of your choosing.

Samsung uses a proprietary .qmg file, but I haven't found where it resides on the Tab. It isn't in System/Media like it was on my old Captivate.
Actually I know how to do this. Samsung uses proprietary formats, but for splash its not qmg. That is for boot animations. I am working on this for everyone. I do not own a Galaxy Tab, but someone has donated a large sum of money and is loaning me a tab to work with so I can perfect a flash able zip for this. It should only take me a couple of weeks, consider it a WIP. I will post the zip or other instructions when I have it done

I wonder if we can use this and tweak it to work for the tab

Depends... Does the galaxy tab have a S4 processor? When I get the test tablet I will have to examine the kernel to see where the splash screen is stored. If it is in the same place all it will take to get that script to work is a few minor script modifications because that particular one uses a assert get prop to make sure its d2vzw or another compatible device. (ie d2spr, d2att, d2tmo). I will post my results when I have it all done. I know its possible, but I could also make a flashable zip with a script that points to another location for the splash screen so you could load it in system/media with the boot animation and change it at will very easily like you can a boot animation. More information to follow. Please be patient

All I can seem to find on xda is the i9000 galaxy s boot animation. I'm looking for the vibrant t959 galaxy s boot animation zip and I can't find it anywhere. Could someone please post a link? The obsidian rom is totally awesome but the boot animation is hideous.
You don't like the Obsidian one but you're comfortable with the stock T-mobile jingle? *barf*
Chacun a son gout, I suppose ... you would have to download one of the stock UVJFD zips (not ODIN) and extract a few things ... The two qmg files, the startup/shutdown songs, and the shutdown images folder.
Please reconsider what you are about to do to your phone. I created a nice little update zip with a complete i9000 startup/shutdown sequence. Just look under my profile for my "quintessential" patch.
Best,
DCC
UPDATE: Just to be clear, what I consider complete i9000 is the spinning Samsung S which forms from pieces on startup and breaks up into pieces upon shutdown (all 60 frames). How on Earth do you not want that??? I'm just messing with ya!

I really like the animation of the stock boot but I can not stand the stupid "Hello" screen and the jingle that comes before the sweet S animation.
Is there a tool for this or a way to adb a new one? I was able to do it on the G1, the mytouch and G2. HELP, I have searched and searched to no avail. I have to get rid of that boring splash screen that says Samsung Vibrant.

Im no help, I just wanted to add that I am interested in changing the splash screen as well. I know its gotta be possible because Ive seen it done with the DoW kernel where "vibrant" was replaced with a pretty sweet picture of a dragon. Just thought Id chime in.
Should be possible somehow... i added a rom to my friends captivate (i know different phone) and its splash screen was changed to go with the rom... so there SHOULD be a way to go in and change it... heres a link to a video of that rom, you'll see what im talking about..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnZSQsfVhFk
I realize it is possible. I am just wondering the steps needed to do it. Usually a image editing program is neede also.

I think you're referring the the boot screen. He's talking about the splash screen that says VIBRANT in plain black and white.
The boot animation is different from the splash screen. The splash its the Samsung vibrant screen you see before the boot animation. You will probably have to chmod the directory before you can change anything in there
Sent via my Samsung Galaxy S
I have sent
a message to the creators of the D.O.W. and have had no luck receiving anything back.
Opening a DOW zip file has the directory as such:
kernel_update
redbend_ua (307kb)
zImage (5685kb)
system
bin
sqlite3 (24kb)
etc
vold.conf (1kb)
vold.fstab (2kb)
build.prop (3kb)
So it would appear that it's either zImage or redbend_ua.

No, I was talking about the splash screen, not the boot screen. Instead of having the black and white vibrant screen, they have a picture of a bomb going off on the DOW Kernals. Download it and check it out.

all

I know that it was a lot easier on the HTC devices and that's what I'm coming from pesonally. But I'm actually pretty certain that it is compiled in the zImage file. Which would mean that it would have to be decompiled, edited and recompiled with your desired image. It sounds like a lot of work but I'm sure that once you get everything set up it would be a breeze!
hmm
So what would I use to open this zimage and edit it?

For some reason, when I load AOKP from moboot, I get two splash screens, one with the unicorn, and then the wide lime green cyanogenmod splash screen with the play triangle. This is before the boot animation. In my /boot, the only splash file I have is moboot.splash.AOKP.tga. Would anyone have any explanation on why this would be? Is the splash built into the rom? Are others able to reproduce?
Its because you had CM9 on your TouchPad before. Theres files left over from in. The files are in the boot folder on the root of your device. I'm not sure the name of the image but you can delete the cyanogenmod one. Along with the file that displays the cyanogenmod option on the moboot screen if you havent already. Someone else will have to jump in and tell you the exact file names to delete.

My understanding is that there may be a 2nd splash screen built into the rom, according to other reports online. Anyone have any insight on this?

In my boot folder, there are no files that mention CM or CyanogenMod. There is only one splash file. It is named moboot.splash.AOKP.tga. The 2nd splash loading screen must be called elsewhere. It is also seen when launching TWRP from moboot.
I've got the same thing. I haven't looked to closely, but I seem to recall seeing three .tga files in there.

I believe the loading splash is independent of the .tga files. I have removed them and still get the "Cyanogenmod loading..." splash. This must be built into the rom somewhere.
I read somewhere else that if you take the rom zip and extract it, there is an image on the root of the folder that is the splash screen. Thats probably it. I havent extracted a rom to see for myself.

You are right, there is a moboot.splash.AOKP.tga file in the root of the extracted rom. I replaced my .tga with this one. It shows this file, the unicorn, but it then it shows the green "cyanogenmod loading..."
It should be noted that the TWRP also shows the "cyanogenmod loading..." when selected from moboot. I'm still thinking the loading splash is independent of the .tga file. Let me know your thoughts.

Yes, i unziped the .zip and there is a .tpk in the root dir. There is still another loading image elsewhere. Does anyone not have the "cyanogen(mod) loading..." on their touchpad boot?

If it is an issue to have two splash screens, in the future I could just include the CyanogenMod .tga splash, and you would only see that. But, I do not really understand why it is an issue?

Thanks, I don't think it is an issue with your rom in particular. I would like to have a custom loading screen for what appears after the .tga splash. I'm referring to the "Cyanogen(mod) loading..." image. Do you know how this is generated?
this might be a dumb question, but do the splash screens increase the time it takes to boot?

I don't think OP has an issue as much as would like to complete a theme for his Touchpad.
I'm also interested in the source of these screens as I've reworked my MOBoot splash, re-rolled my CM9 boot animation, updated the boot .tga files (landscape)... leaving these HP pulsing logo (portrait) and the CyanogenMod loading...(portrait) not to be found.
I'll be looking into the ROM .zip to check deeper.
Mine is the same. It shows the AOKP unicorn first, and then the cyanogen(mod) loading one second, and then switches to the boot animation from the actual rom.
It's not a problem, although it would be nice to figure out where it comes from so it could be customized.
It certainly doesn't effect the use of the touchpad at all.
[BOOT LOGO + ANIMATION] Moto Logos (Multi-Color, Blur, & MOTOX) - Updated 10/12/13
Just sharing some work I did on aligning some boot logos and animations using OEM Moto logos. All of these were converted from animations originaly from Motorola.
These are CWM flashable, and they change the Boot Logo and the Boot Annimation so that they flow into one another.
These are designed to work with GB ROM's, I have only tested them with NottachTrix and CSROM. If you want to use them with other ROM's then extract the bootanimation.zip file from within these and copy it over tot he right /system folder

The fact that you get a blackscreen tells me that you put the file in the right place. That leads me to believe there is something wrong with the bootanimation.zip file you are using.
Did you by chance unzip the bootanimation.zip file itself? And then rezip it before moving it to the Atrix? If so, did you happen to rezip the bootanimation file normaly? I ask because I did that a one point and caused the very same issue.
A bootanimation.zip must be made without compression, or set as "store" not "archive" when Zip'ing. If you answered yes to all of this then the solution is to get a bootanmiation.zip that is compressed correctly and move that to your /system/media. You can do that one of two ways,
1.) redownload my files, unzip the flashable file to get the bootanimation, but do NOT unzip the bootanimation file itself. Copy that bootanimation to your phone
or
2.) rezip the bootanimation file without compression, in 7zip you do this by setting the the pression to "store"
I have made a couple of boot animations for Lollipop on the S4.
These are bootanimation.zip files and not flashable zip files.
They are not qmg files, your rom must use bootanimation.zip files to use these.
Please backup your original in case you don't like them or for some reason they don't work for you. I have tested these on 2 different lollipop roms and they work great for me.
The images below are animated gif files and are set to loop so you can see the animation, they do not loop on your phone.
To install just download the file of your choice, rename it to "bootanimation.zip" and place it where you current bootanimation.zip file is located (usually /system/media), set permissions and reboot your phone.
