[Q] HELP!!!! - HTC EVO 3D CDMA soft bricked - HTC EVO 3D

Can anyone point me in the direction of a Stock RUU for HTC EVO 3D CDMA hboot 1.50
This is the scenario...
My phone is booting up into Hboot on its own. I have tried using the PG86IMG.zip and it loads, however it just loops and goes back to the bootloader.
This is how it looks...
Loading (PC86DIAG.zip )
No Image!
Loading (PC86DIAG.ndh)
No Image!
Found PG86IMG.zip
Checking
This is when it returns to the bootloader.

Hello,
Try the following
1) Remove the PC86IMG.zip file from your SD Card (or remove the SD Card)
2) Reboot your phone
3) After fastboot goes through its check, navigate to "Recovery" using the volume buttons. Press power to select it
A) Did it pull up the recovery? If so flash a new ROM AND CLEAR ALL DATA
B) Did it not go to recovery? If so you will need to install the Fastboot/ADB Binaries and Drivers to flash a new recovery. Once a new recovery is installed, a new ROM can be flashed.
Let me know if this does not help

Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A

Google "rootevo3dnew.zip" and you should find a site that says something like evohacks.com or something like that. Download that package and extract it to your computer. Now follow these instructions...
1. Go into the extracted folder, find the clockworkmod recovery image and rename it "cwm.img" (for easier typing).
2. Next, open your command prompt and redirect to the root evo 3d folder. (Or ifyou have windows vista/seven, hold shift and right click the evo 3d folder an click "open command prompt here"
3. Turn on fastboot USB on your phone since ur in the bootloader.
4. Next type fastboot Boot cwm.img and it should boot clockworkmod. Wipe your device Amanda flash a Tom.
This is all assuming you know how to work adb / fastboot and have a windows PC, hope it helps.!!

[Q] Brick?!? Need some help before i make things worse.

I need some help and advice.
I was on Virtuous Shooter 1.0.2 Rom and tried to install a kernel from the CDMA section.
Before i flashed it i made a nandroid backup, so i could allways go back (I thought).
But after flashing the Kernel it didn't go to the rom, but to my recovery.
So the rom booted just fine, only my recovery was broken.
Then i tried flashing a new recovery by using Rom manager. The phone crashed while doing this.
And now all i can do is boot into the bootloader and fastboot.
Should i use the revolutionary tool again when in fastboot? Or can i do a fastboot restore like this:
Manual Nandroid restore
Make a Nandroid backup, and copy the folder off your SD card to your desktop.
cd ~/Desktop/path/to/backup/
fastboot flash userdata data.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
I don't want to make things worse now, so i could use some advice.
I'm at work now so won't be trying this in the next few hours.
Thanx already
Download and flash an RUU
1. You now need to pick the RUU you wish to flash, a good source is this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1208485
2. Once you have downloaded the RUU you would like to flash, run it (it can take a while to load), and stop when you get the welcome screen, which has a picture of a Evo 3D on the left and a red caution notice on the right.
3. Move this window out of the way (it forces itself into foreground), then open up windows explorer and go to:
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Temp
4. Then sort by Date Modified. Find the newest folder with a long random sequence of numbers as its name, go in here and you should see, three files and a folder: corecomp, dotnetinstaller, IBSEW64. (the files may be different on 32-bit OS), now go into the folder which has another long random name.
In there amongst a lot of files (use search if you need to), you will find rom.zip. This is the rom we want to flash!
5. Copy the rom.zip file to the root of your SD Card
(i.e. if your on Windows, X:/ [where X is the letter of your EVO 3D's SD Card])
6. Rename the rom.zip you just put on your SD Card, to PG86IMG.zip (ensure you do not rename it to PG86IMG.zip.zip or it wont work!)
7. Find the "HTC Android ROM Update Utility" Window, and hit Cancel.
Flash RUU (rom.zip)
1. EITHER:
1a. Shut down your phone, then take out your battery and put it back in.OR:
1b. Make sure fastboot is disabled in settings and shut down your phone (This can be done via Settings > Power> Untick "FAST BOOT" at the bottom.)
2. Keep hold of the volume down button and switch your phone on.
3. When it asks "Do you want to start the update", press Volume Up to accept (this can take a while and its normal for the system part to appear to go in a loop several times)
5. Press Power Off to reboot to first time setup.
6. Your phone is now debranded!
7. Remove PG86IMG.zip from your memory card
Thanx, sounds good, but what does this do?
I don't need a new rom, i need my recovery back, so i can restore my nandroid, i believe this only gives me the rom part?

Don't use a RUU too much work for no reason.
Simply do this
In future
1. Wrong Section
2. How comes that you are flashing a CDMA Kernel?
3. You also flashed a cdma Recovery lol

I was aware that it was from the CDMA section, but as most of the development is going on in there, and on my previous phone the kernels worked on both models. I tried a CDMA kernel, if it wouldn't work i could just restore my nandroid. But i didn't expect the kernel to overwrite my recovery.
And for flashing the recovery, i just used the normal ROM Manager option of flashing a recovery, Rom manager doesn't name a GSM or CDMA model, just HTC Evo 3D recovery, and that screwed up my rom.
Nandroid restoring now
thanx all who helped me :-D
I have come copied the ROM.zip to the SDCARD and rename to PG86IMG.zip
However each time I go into bootloader, it doesnt ask me to Update. It will automatically detect and start loading the zip (with one error image not found or something). You can still see a blue status bar on the right side but once its completely done it doesnt appear anything have happened. Rebooting the phone proves nothing was flashed.
What am I doing wrong? Do I need a FAT 16 SDCARD or goldcard to do this?

flash image gui clockworkmod 4.0.1.4 proper kernel and more noob questions

Alright let me give you some background.
Evo 3d which is rooted
Flash image GUI
Clcokworkmod 4.0.1.4
I'm trying to flash the above clockworkmod back onto my evo 3d so I can flash the viper rom without that exact version Of the clockworkmod the recovery apparently will not boot.
I had it originally but downloaded rom manager and updated the clockworkmod to
5. I don't have my comp with me where I'm at just my phone so I'm trying to flash the clockwork 4 on my phone without a comp. Flash image GUI is what I have and I have the clockworkmod 4. I'm not trying to do anything special with a kernel but the program keeps asking for it. Question what is a kernel and second which one should I use with the flash image GUI combined with the clockworkmod 4 version with my evo 3d sprint to flash clcokworkmod 4.0.1.4 on my phone properly
I don't know if I can bump myself but ahem bump. Thanks in advance
I'm not entirely sure of what your question is, but usually you don't "flash" a recovery. You move the Recovery zip to the "Home" of the sdcard (not in any folders) and rename it "PG86IMG.zip". You then power down your phone, take out the battery, put the battery back in, and then press the power button and the volume down button at the same time to boot into Hboot. It will ask if you want to update "PG86IMG.zip" in which you press the power button on "Yes". After update, power back into the phone, open up your file explorer, and rename or delete the "PG86IMG.zip" file.
EDIT: After you delete this file, you can hold down the power button and click "restart" and then select "recovery" and it should bring you to that menu.
If this isn't what you are asking, please re-phrase your question. It was hard for me, at least, to understand it completely.

Unfortunately with newer HTC devices, having root access is only half of the process to fully unlocking the device. The other half is disabling the internal memory write protection, otherwise known as NAND lock or s-on/s-off.
In order to give you exact suggestions, there is a piece of information needed. You mentioned everything except the internal memory write protection aspect. Have you unlocked the internal memory write protection? If so, did you use revolutionary or the official htc method?
General suggestions, when the device has the stock recovery loaded and you have unlocked the internal memory write protection, there are three main ways to flash a recovery.
1) Using my FlashImageGUI app (I'm def biased but I created it to fill a need/serve a purpose!)
2) Using the bootloader by loading a PG86IMG.zip file into the root of the /sdcard and rebooting into the bootloader, it will automatically scan for the PG86IMG.zip file on boot and prompt to allow loading.
3) Using the fastboot via usb. From the bootloader screen, plug in USB then select fastboot. Using the fastboot binary on the host computer with this syntax: fastboot flash recovery c:\downloads\cwm-recovery.img
Also, the latest version of Clockworkmod Recovery is 5.0.1.0 and can be downloaded and flashed via the ROM Manager application, in the market.
Hope that helps and appreciate the support using my app!

If I already flashed the ICS leak , now locked bootloader , S still ON.
Would it be 5-9 then step 13 ?

If you are on the ICS leak, I believe the new HBOOT that comes with it does not support flashing recoveries. I could be wrong though.
If you want to S-Off, follow from step 5 and onward.
If the new HBOOT supports flashing recoveries, do as you said, 5-9.

Great tutorial Hasoon but shouldn't you mention in steps 3, 11 and 12 that once you've finished flashing the ph85img file and rebooted in each case that that file should be deleted to avoid any conflict with the next step renaming to ph85img? If noobs already see a ph85img file, they might think the correct one is already there instead of deleting the old one and renaming the next step file ph85img which would be a totally different file. Just my thoughts to avoid any confusion which inevitably will happen. lol
Unlocked via HTC DEV my old info wasnt working for whatever reason.
Followed steps recovery flashed , superuser flashed.
Titanium cant get root priveleges. Updates SU DLd busybox.
Not sure if Im rooted or if the app is wonky.

Download Root Check Basic and take a screenshot of what it says. Let me see if the files got the correct permissions.
Weird , BusyBox was not launching anything. Rebooted now it does says SU not giving permission.
SU switched from Prompt to Allow no difference.
Update stops at checking for root.
RootCheck "sorry this device does not have proper root access"
For clarity S On , Bootloader is unlocked , CWM is installed , I flashed SU zip twice. ICS leak installed prior to all the above. S On, rooted , custom rom prior to ICS update.

Thanks but I think that the directions could be even more explicit.
Using the all in one tool, it is not clear whether the phone needs to be connected to usb (some people may forget), and it's not clear what mode the phone needs to be in. Does it need to be in the bootloader menu by pressing vol down and power? Or can you just plug the phone in via usb and start it working?

You need to SuperCID for Non T-Mobile Amaze Users. Otherwise, it isn't really necessary then.

Tried to root my phone, can't boot anymore, how do I get it stock?? [Very worried]

So I tried to flash a rom and hit some problems, now when I try to restart my phone it gets stuck on the "verizon 4g lte" screen and wont load past there. When I open bootloader there are 3 warnings at the very top:
*** TAMPERED ***
*** RELOCKED ***
*** Security Warning ***
How can I get my phone back to stock? I need this IMMEDIATLY if possible!!
Also make it as simple as possible, I'm new to roms and roots and flashing.

as it was stated, you need to unlock your bootloader again. A recovery image is a image that we use to flash and wipe roms and the phone. Amon RA, TWRP and CW are the ones we can use for our phone. I personally use TWRP and Amon RA depending on my mood. You can find them here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1425091
Towards the bottom of the list you will see recovery. You will need to flash one of those in order to flash a custom rom.
Also make sure to read the tutorials towards the bottom. before you start messing with your phone you should be familiar with everything. If you do something wrong and brick your phone, its hard to recover from if at all and you would have an expensive paper weight

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1425091
Towards the bottom of the list you will see recovery. You will need to flash one of those in order to flash a custom rom.
Also make sure to read the tutorials towards the bottom. before you start messing with your phone you should be familiar with everything. If you do something wrong and brick your phone, its hard to recover from if at all and you would have an expensive paper weight

Second, I don't know how to use these files and after reading the thread it still didn't help.
EDIT: After unlocking the only two notices on my hboot is
TAMPERED
and
UNLOCKED
EDIT2: I found my SD card adapter.

1. you need to download fastboot if you have not already. You can find that in the android sdk
2.) once fastboot is downloaded boot your phone into bootloader and select the fastboot option and plug your phone into your computer
3.) place the recovery image in the same directory as fastboot and use the command prompt (windows key +r then type cmd and hit enter)
4.) change directory to where fastboot is and run this command
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
where recovery.img is the name of the recovery file that you downloaded

yeah no problem.
If you go back into the bootloader and select recovery, this will bring you into the Amon Ra.
Download a rom from the forums, I personally like Neo's Roms, Infection 2.8.1 is a good choice. But download any rom and put it on your SD card.
1.) select USB-MS toggle and then select on of the options
2.) copy downloaded rom to mounted sdcard
3.) once copied, hit the power button to unmount and then return to the main menu
4.)select wipe from the main menu and then do each one of these 3 times
Wipe All data/factory reset
Wipe /data
Wipe /cache
Wipe /Dalvik-cache
Wipe /system
then go back to main menu and then select Fash zip menu and select where you placed your rom and then flash...once its flash go back to main menu and select Developers menu and selet reboot bootloader
open the rom using a zip program and pull the boot.img from the rom and place it in your fastboot directory
once you are in the bootloader it should go to fastboot usb automatically and then run these commands
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot reboot
it should reboot and load your rom

I have no idea why this isn't working
http://gyazo.com/2627f9963c95e7dc9a03cb118f139aac.png
I did your steps in order, but my phone has been stuck on rebooting... for over 15 minutes as you can see from the CMD. On my phone I just see the booting logo spinning.
I used this rom because I want jellybean: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2113140
Any ideas?
Also, what do I do with the MD5? I didn't use it.

the reboot step isnt 100% needed, its more for ease of use...just pull the battery and power on
Also did you flash the boot.img file?

Dont worry to much about the MD5,I havent used one if forever. Its basically just a security check to make sure that the file you downloaded didnt get corrupt. But with modern technology and internet, its less likely to mess up while downloading. Still possible, but not likely

It's still just sitting on the boot screen.
If you didn't see my edit, there is an md5 file I can download, but I didn't use it because I don't know what to do with it.

It sounds like you have a ph98img file on your sdcard. Remove the sdcard and Mount it in a PC and remove it. Then remount in the phone. Should allow to get into recovery and fastboot then

thanks for the help, before i got your message i got around the issue in a different way just trying a few things. I figured out the phone would boot into recovery with no sd card in it but i couldnt flash the rom again without it installed so i put the sd in partially and then held the battery against the contacts with out inserting it completely then booted into recovery, push the sd in the rest of the way and i was golden for there.
but i happy that someone knew wat it was on the sd card that was giving me the problem ive got that deleted now thanks for the help

[Q] Can't get apps to run as root.

I want to flash this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2400838
But I don't have 4EXT, and as far as I can tell in order to install it I need to install the .apk from here (http://www.4ext.net/) and run it as root.
The problem is, apps won't run as root. If I try to update the superuser app it says it fails to get root.
I've got the SOS X rom on there now, twrp 1.1.1 recovery, and HBOOT-1.58.5858
It's S-OFF.
I also tried flashing a stock root rom to see if I could get superuser to work, but it had the same problem. And I've tried a couple different HBOOT versions.
Any help would be much appreciated!
First and foremost, that ROM wont work with Hboot 1.58. that Hboot version works best with Sense-based Roms, but it doesnt play nice at all with JB Roms. flash Hboot 1.04. sense-based Roms will still work. its the most used Hboot for the Evo 3D.
Second, you can flash the recovery from boot loader if you have the proper zip file. if not, you can also flash it from your computer using fastboot.
i am not sure why your root does not work. it could be a file system error. i can't tell.
anyways, ill guide you on flashing the Hboot and the recovery.
Hboot: (you know this already, but just in case )
BACKUP BEFORE PROCEEDING
take the Hboot file i included, and rename it to PG86IMG. after the rename the file Should be just PG86IMG.zip
put the file in the root of your Phone's SD card
turn off your phone, or remove the battery, or anything.
boot your phone into boot loader by pressing and holding Vol- + Power till you see the boot loader screen.
it will seach for a PG86IMG file to install. it will find the file you dropped into the SD card.
it will ask you if you want to install it, fallow the on-screen instructions to select yes.
it will install
afterwards, it will tell you to hit power to reboot or something like that.
after that delete the PG86IMG file from your sd card, or else it will prompt you to install it again when you use Hboot the next time
this is the same procedure for any and all Hboots. if you need another version later on, go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30014044&postcount=7
Recovery:
BACKUP BEFORE PROCEEDING
now, if you find the recovery itself in a zip file, you can install it from boot loader by renaming it to PG86IMG and doing exactly like the Hboot.
i only have the img, so i will tell you how to do that.
from a computer, you will search for the android SDK. its about 100mb. hopefully youre using Windows, and if so, there is a mini SDK that is really small. this mini SDK contains what will allow you to use Fast Boot and ADB.
Here you can find the mini SDK http://androidforums.com/faqs/443072-adb-guide-updated-12-05-2011-a.html
take the folder sdk-tools and put it on the root of your hard drive or anywhere. put in the folder the recovery.img file i included
open cmd on windows, or terminal on linux. type in "cd C:\sdk-tools" if on windows.
hit enter. after that type fastboot and hit enter and see if something comes up. if it doesnt, you got the path wrong. i cant really go into much detail explaining this is coming out of my memory so excuse me.
after you do get the path right, just boot your phone into boot loader, select fastboot, plug your phone to your computer and you should see Fastboot USB on your phone screen highlighted in red.
after that just go to the command window on your pc, and type "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" no, theres no typo there. if you get lost, let me know and ill help you out
hopefully you will stay with 4ext since it performs better than twrp. at least in my case.
once it finishes installing youre done. you have 4ext and an Hboot version that works with the Rom you want to install.
now to the Root access problem.
try flashing a rooted rom, see if it works. if it doesnt, or you already tried. then try wiping everything and reflashing.
if still no go, then let me know and ill see how i can help you.
Thanks so much! This is exactly what I needed.
