[Q] How to find my WPA passphrase - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a file in the files structure that houses the WPA passphrase. I have looked around in \system\etc\wifi but none of those files seem to be what I am looking for. I have a feeling it is encrypted in some file but I thought I would ask if anyone knows. Most of the devices tell me that the passphrase is unchanged when i go into the settings of already configured networks. This does not help me if i forget what the passphrase is. Thanks in advance.

If you are rooted you can use WiFi key recovery from the market to recover your passphrase. I have no idea where it gets this information though, you could always ask the dev I imagine.

you will need root to read /data or adb.
the wpa psk is clear text in
/data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf

That helps for my rooted phone but not for the stupid Kindle Fire one of my co-workers has. That is the device I am really trying to extract the passphrase from. I will look at that app for my phone though.

Well you need root either way. :/

Figures, guess I will have to figure something else out.

you MIGHT be able to do it with adb without root
if you have adb on a computer somewhere try
adb pull /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf

[HOWTO] Use WinSCP for Android

Coming from the world of apple iphone I am learning everything new here. One thing I loved about iphone was the ability to use WinSCP to modify root files. I understand that this can be done on the phone with in andriod but I have big hands and find it easier to use Winscp and mouse to navigate files on the phone.
Note: Mod if this in wrong section please help move
*Prerequisites: ROOT
*Tools required: SSHDROID (from market place it is free). Winscp
Install SSHDROID
Install WInscp (your pc will restart after install)
Connect your phone to your local wifi
open sshdroid, allow SUPER USER
in winscp type in ip address of phone (can be found by going to with in sshdriod screen)
Default User name is "root"
Default Password is "admin"
recommend changing... both user name and password
USer name can be change when first logging in winscp, password can be change with in SSHDROID in setting.
there you go you can now explor root files with in winscp with mouse and keyboard.
update : pictures of it working
nice, i never really bothered with this before, but its a good idea and probably worth the short amount of time required for setup, i'll try this later.
Yeah, Thanks... I remember when I came over from icrap, I was looking for a way to SSH, but gave up and just used rootexplorer for everything, and adb. This will definitely help though, especially since I like to edit the build prop on the pc.
**Edit**
Works great... so much easier to browse now. IMO
does this work to show system files? I use Samba Filesharing from the market to view my files through integrated windows networking (samba), but the system files don't show, just the sdcard.

Yes, he says it displays root files, and system files fall under that. I haven't tested myself so I can't personally testify but I'd be inclined to trust the OP on that.

Thinking it has to do with permissions, I just don't know what. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks! Worked flawlessly! I was looking for this since i moved over from iphone..Very handy and quick!
I can confirm that using SSHDroid in combination with WinSCP, will preserve the file time stamp (modified date) when copying files from Windows to Android 2.3.5 or Android 4.4.2. Most copy methods will update the file time stamp. (I don't think it makes any difference but both of the devices were rooted.)

Wifi mobile AP keeps resetting?

Every time I try to use it, it always renames the access point back to "Android AP" and wipes the password as well - anyone come across a fix?
I'm running the official 2.3.5 firmware.

I am not quite sure what your problem is.
Do you mean tethering?
And your phone does not keep the AP name and password for its own WLAN hotspot?
I am sure that there are some tethering apps on the Market.
Maybe one of them can help you to configure a customized AP name and password and saves it for later use.
Yep that's it exactly, tethering. The AP name and password keep resetting!

This is because the permissions for the wifi settings got messed up so it can't write out your new permissions. The error handling isn't too good so it doesn't tell you about it
To fix, in a rooted terminal run this command:
chmod 770 /data/misc/wifi

[Q] ZTE Warp N860 - AAA Secret Password Help

I'm trying to view my AAA password on my ZTE Warp but haven't been able to find a method that will work. I've tried the usual methods: 1) QXDM via the command "requestnvitemread ds_mip_ss_user_prof". Results in "error response received from target". 2) QPST EFS Explorer, but the nvm folder is locked so I cannot access. 3) CDMA Workshop via reading nv items, but 466 and 1192 both show "Access denied". Hopefully someone can offer some help on this?
AAA password for N860 ZTE/warp
I know ths post is from November, I just had to go through this myself. You can use "logcat" to read this. Start logcat then enter ##3282# open data profile tap on password keys you can then cancel, go back to logcat, read through and you will find the dialer info ##3282# soon after that you will see the HA ,AAA passwords in hex format, problem solved
Thanks for the suggestion. I will try this.
*update: This method worked for me, but only for profile 1 AAA password. Thanks joey716. Still searching for a method to access profile 0 AAA (32 character hex)
did you ever get your aaa key and ha key from logcat??? i need some help

Here's basically what I did:
After creating my logcat file (which was saved to my sd card) I connected my phone to computer and copied the file to my pc. Then I opened the file with notepad and in the menu bar selected Edit > Find. In the box I typed in "aaa" without quotes, then clicked Find Next. Notepad then takes you thru the logcat stopping everywhere it finds "aaa". It takes a few clicks on Find Next, but soon you will see something like "init AAAPassword=xxxxxxxxxxxx" . And you should see your 12 digit AAA password instead of the xxxx's. Do the same thing for your 32 digit AAA password. If you look just before those entries you'll see "init HaPassword=736563726574". That's your HA password, which should be 736563726574 like mine. Write them down and you're all set. If you are still having trouble pm me.

That is what we are trying to retrieve, Profile 0 AAA key.
I bet there is a way to unlock NVM folder with a method like HTC phones.

On some HTC devices, you create a folder with a "Specific name" in the root of EFS, reboot the phone and NVM folder is accessible. Some samsung devices, you can dump a partition and extract it with magic iso, and see NVM folder, other newer Samsung devices, you downgrade the Modem/Radio and you gain access to EFS file system via QPST.
So I bet there is a method like those mentioned above for the ZTE warp.
Hopefully, someone finds it and post it online. I've tried everything to my knowledge without success.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I've even tried the above methods plus a few other things and no luck.
I was finally able to get my profile 0 AAA password on THE ZTE Warp. I did it with CDMA workshop. All I did was read/save nv item 1192. Opened the file with notepad, and there it was! What's weird though is thats one of the first things I tried a long time ago and it didn't work, just said access denied or whatever. But for whatever reason it worked this time. The only thing I can think of that's different is the rom I'm using.

Please tell us more, because I tried it and it failed.
What OS / Build are you on?
Where you rooted when you were able to read 1192?
Thanks

Ok, phone is rooted and running this rom : http://androidforums.com/boost-mobi...0-based-viii-ii-full-install-1-23-2013-a.html
Like I said, I tried to read my aaa with CDMA workshop (v2.7) months ago, and it didn't work. I got the "access denied" message for nv 1192. And it worked for me now and the rom is the only thing thats different I think. Hopefully that helps for now. I'll update this later when I get back to my computer.

LG G8X Thinq(Sprint) adb shell

So i got the new G8X and have been trying desperatey to just access the system files to remove some bloatware.
Problem is it only gives me access from \User\0 and on. I tried to delete them through adb on windows but everytime i try and run adb shell the phone automatically disconnects.
I know i have all the updated drivers cause it recognizes the phone through windows and adb when i type adb devices
but as soon as i execute adb shell it disconnects. Does anyone have a solution for this?
Any sort of feedback would be greatly appreciated. i Have a 30 day return policy in effect if i cant gain access to any of that i plan on returning the phone.
Thanks for reading
Edit: Im dumb switching ports and usb cable resolved issue.
If anyone hears anything about root access please advise. Thanks all
I have had my phone on ADB and sending and reading data from it two nights in a row, I have not seen this problem at all. I can run adb shell no problem. Sorry! I know it's a stupid suggestion, but can you try a different USB cable/port on your PC?

As simple as your suggestion was it lets me command it through cmd now., switching the cable worked.
Still through the phone itself i cant access system directories. and its not like i cant change things it just flat out wont let me view them at all.
The end goal is to get root/custom recoveries so i can install magisk and xposed, if you hear anything let me know. And thanks again!

I use Solid Explorer. So, some of the files you can physically see in the explorer, but if you try to open it, the text is garbled. It was only after I started doing adb pull that I could actually see/read the files themselves.

Help with electrum wallet (will send btc)

I have an electrum wallet on an old android phone, for which I have forgotten the pin. Seed is also gone. The pin is a 6 digit number. I have found a script which was used to bruteforce it and send the funds into another account..
The problem is that I cannot figure out how to run the script on my phone. I am using android studio and uiautomator. I need to find a way to run the script on the electrum wallet app so it can bruteforce the pin.
Any advice is welcome. There is around 0.1 btc in the wallet so I promise to send 0.05 to anyone who figures it out.

The phone is an LG G4 running android 6.0
Cheers!
Have you tried pulling the wallet file off the device to your pc? It's probably easier to crack it from there.

okok no worries, it won't show up if you don't have root
So basically make an adb backup of the device then extract the file from there then run btcrecover on the wallet to get the pin. This should be overall way quicker than using uiautomator.

I will give it a go as soon as I can and let you know.

I made it to the tar part using this guide and I have given the file to one of my programmer friends but I haven't heard back from him yet.
