Somehow I can't copy MKV to my Prime. Avi works? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

could someone help me I don't know what it is?

I had the same problem. I narrowed it down to the file size. Is the file more than 2GB? When copying two MKVs the difference between the two was that one was 2.2GB and the other, the one that worked, was 1.41GB.

Yes it is 8gb^^ full hd bluray rip I just read that it has a limitation for 4gb only? is that true? if yes is there a way I can change that?

Can't confirm a file size limit. Transfered an 8.73gb 1080p mkv file to my prime and it is a) on the primes internal storage and b) it plays flawlessly with dice player
Transfered mine using the usb cable and my pc is running win7 x64 professional.

thanks I tried it with a zip and that works 16gb but MKV doesn't work and I don't know why

what os are you using? are you transfering the files via usb or wifi? maybe someone with the same system specs as you can help you out

How did you try to transfer it and what did the error msg say?

Format your SD cards/USB sticks to exFat or NTFS, that should do the trick.
The problem is the partition table, Anything upto FAT32 cant go larger then 2gb I think.

I have the Asus eee Pad transformer Prime 64gb verion and windows 7 64bit.
Im triing to put the movie on the internal storage, I don't have a other sd card.

And I'm triing to load it over the Usb Cable
And the error is that it says well I have to translate it, it says that windows-explorer doesn't work anymore and needs to restart

Its a windows 7 thing. I've had the same problem trying to transfer large mkvs to my home server. Some things to try:
in windows explorer, go to tools, folder options, view tab, first checkbox says "Always show icons, never thumbnails", check it
some have had success changing the file extension to jpg...
others have had to uninstall divx

Using USB you only have the option to save it to the SD card. This would mean you would need to format as NTFS to not run into the FAT32 file limit.
I would transfer this via wifi if you can save it to your internal storage; however, if you plan on doing this a lot you should save yourself the trouble and just properly format the SD CARD to NTFS.

You can transfer files to the Internal Storage using USB. It would very very stupid if you can't.

Yes, but way more no. You are right, that it says sdcard on the prime. But that is just a case of really bad naming. When you go to the stock file manager on the prime you'll see that it distinguishes between "sdcard" and "removable" on the highest folder level. If you however access the "sdcard" folder you get to the internal storage.
As far as transfer speed goes nothing can beat the usb connection in my experience. My wifi (n standard) isn't even close to being as fast as the usb connection.

Help me ! I can't copy file from PC to Samsung T959 !

I'm using the Samsung Galaxy S T959 2.1 of TMobile
I have installed on my computer samsung drivers for mobile and Kies.
My computer is using Win 7 32-bit
Everyday, I plug the cable into my PC and choose Mount, after that I copy data from PC to Samsung normally
Today, when the cable attached to the PC, then select Mount, also appears that 2 drives H & I but I can't copy data to SamSung. When I copied, the PC alert :
Copying
Discovering items.....
Time remain : Calculating
Data Transfer : Calculating
How then is run from morning to noon without the copy is complete, although I only have a 1MB image file. Reset your computer and the SS, but still the same error.
So my computer is corrupted or SS that you failed? I try to connect your computer with the N95, the copy machine is normal.
please help me how to I can copy data normally ?
i had a problem copying files to my vibrant, I formated my internal 16gb memory and it fixed the problem.
i think its
settings>sd phone storage>format.
I would uninstall kies. I never use it. After you do that plug in the phone and you should then use the top pull down menu and it will have a connect usb icon and button. hit that it will then say connected and it will open 2 folders F and G or something like that one is the internal sd and the other is the external And do what the posting said format the external sd card if it is new or you have not yet. you can do it on the computer it would be fat-32 ONLY
If you have wifi you can use the app Wifi File Explorer. Costs about $1 for the Pro version. I use it all the time for transferring files. Very easy and works great. You access your phones storage using your PC web browser. No cables, no problems.

Thanks! I just tried that App. It works great. It doesn't seem to see my MicroSD card though, only the internal memory shows up (on my Vibrant).......unless I am missing something.

Shows up on mine. Look for the sd folder. If you see "Up To Parent Directory" at the top of the directory list click on it because you're not at the root directory level. From root you should see sd/.

[Q] Strange SD card problem

Hi
I had some really strange issues with my SD card files and I was wondering if anyone could help.
Let's start with the start .
I'm running a GB ROM (OneDroid GB06) with Franco's kernel from 02 oct. Using a 16Gb class 6 SD card from A-Data. Partitions made with CWR version 3.1 (I think).
Anyway the problem is like this. I am using my phone as a voice recorder with AndRecorder Free from the Market. Usually record 10-15 minutes (up to 15MB) interviews and sometimes I record like 10 of them without downloading them to the PC. The problem I had was that after I recorded a few of them, when I connect the phone to PC with data cable, I can't see the recorded files in Explorer.
At first I had an issue when connecting the phone in USB storage mode it told me that I had some errors that had to be fixed. I could not see the files I needed in explorer and after dissconnecting from PC the files were gone from OI File Manager as well. I was however able to find them in the LOST.DIR.
I took the card out, put it in a card reader, backed up my files and did a full format and put all my files back. No more "need to fix" messages when connecting to PC, however I still cannot see the files that I record in Windows Explorer while connected in USB storage mode. In Oi File Manager I can see them, play them and even send to Dropbox via WiFi. Or if I take the card out and put it in a reader I am able to see them in Explorer as well.
Anyone has any idea about this? Kernel or ROM issue?
I used the same program (AndRecorder) before on 2.2 and I'm using it on another O1 running official 2.2.2 and never had a problem like this.

Few times the same problem happens to me I am using a sandisk 4gb SDHC card and i clicked some photos from the camera and those photos were visible in the gallery but when i connected to usb storage on computer, photos were not visible... I'm also using FRANCO.KERNEL for gingerbread 2oct but with stock ROM..
First - install Root Toolbox or Dual SD mount widget and try double-mounting the card when connected. If it fails try copying the parent folder to PC or try to list via typing (Should be on the sdcard directory you store the files) dir /a:h or dir /a:s in cmd (Should be your last hope, though).
Otherwise, try setting up a FTP Server and make sure the card is using a FAT32 file system.
Ianis, thanks for the solution, but I just want a way to make it work as it should, not to try and go back in DOS mode just to copy some freaking files.
Did you try:

mounting TP storage via USB with OSX?

My PC running windows7 mounts the Transformer Prime just fine and I can access its internal storage without Issue.
At work, we are forced to use Macs running OSX lion 10.72, however my Prime does not mount on the Mac's for some reason, and I cannot see the internal storage on the Mac's.
Did anyone else try mounting the TP internal storage on a Mac running 10.72?
Does it work for you? Does the prime use a standard EXT3 or NTFS partition?
Is it formatted in such a way that Mac's don't recognize or is something wrong?
The mac can however be accessed wirelessly by enabling SMB file sharing for windows.
File Manager HD now see's the mac just the same. I just can't seem to mount the TP storage with a physical connection to a MAC over usb... hmm
You need Android File Transfer installed on your Mac.

Thanks for the tips!

you can't mount it as a drive as it uses MTP not USB mass storage
if i recall the the way ICS works is the internal storage is mounted as MTP however external storage such as microsd is mounted via USB Mass Storage...thats the reason that the GNex has no usb mass storage support and only mtp, since the gnex has no external memory slot.

Ah. Not familiar with MTP. I just got this thing. Android file transfer doesn't always stay connected. It freezes on me on my Mac sometimes. When I try to start over and just rewrite over files I copied, it will give me **** about not being able to copy a file and drop off. Doesn't seem reliable. Could be the tablet though.
MTP can only transfer one file at a time which is why many people don't like it, to only advantage it has is that it transfers files faster but I would much rather have the ability to transfer more than transfer slightly faster
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
I'm not sure this is possible, but could you use an FTP client to send files to the tablet like FileZilla? Would that be faster / more reliable on a local network connection?

It's possible. You would need to install an FTP server on your tablet. There appear to be a number available on the market.

[Q] external hdd write problem

Hi,
I recently bought a Archos Gen9 ICS.
Using the host cable I can copy from internal memory to USB (fat32) without a problem. This also works when connecting the USB using the 3G input.
However when I connect an external HDD (ntfs) using the 3G input it's recognized, but I can't copy files to it. In the default file manager I don't even have the "paste" button when I select the drive. Astro said something about the drive being read-only.
(btw...copying files to the usb-stick didn't even work with astro...it always complained about not being able to create a new directory. Anyway if the default file manager works, that's fine by me)
What could be the problem here? Is it file system related or...?
Hope someone knows the answer.
Thanks in advance!
neva
Write support on ntfs file system isnt given.
You could reformat your hard drive as fat 32 but i wouldnt do so.
You would lose support for big files over 4 gb, you would lose all your data, etc.
it is kernel related, perhaps it might be possible to trick your archos if you feed it with ntfs-3g, but i dont know if it is possible. It would be tricky, you would have to find arm binery therefore. There is a thread here on xda in same subsection gen9 android developement.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1463679&highlight=ntfs-3g
You could try that and report if you successed.
Greatings.
Thx for your quick reply.
I didn't know that ntfs write wasn't possible at the moment...
I'll probably convert my hdd back to fat32, or buy a "bigger" usb stick

Mass storage mode

Anyone come up with a solution yet for USB mass storage mode to access the external card?
I recently bought a 64gb microsd card and the SGS3 has no option for mass storage mode to access it. Trying to load lots of music files. Very frustrating
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
You're not able to open windows explorer to drag and drop you music to the SD card? When you click on your phone in windows explorer, it should open up another page to choose between your internal and external storage.
If you mean when connected to a PC, select camera mode when connected, in case the drive isnr compatible with mtp. You should be set then.
I can drag and drop. I was trying to use Double Twist program on my laptop to sync music so I have my itunes playlist intact. For whatever reason Double Twist doesn't recognize MTP or PTP connections on the sgs3.
I've run into a couple other situations with apps that don't recognize the external memory card. I think Quick Office Pro was another app I had trouble with as well.
I really miss the AOSP USB mass storage mode
Yes, not having UMS really sucks. I constantly have to switch between camera or media mode in order to transfer files. I'm 100% a custom ROM would fix this, but it should've been there out of the box. I wonder why samsung removed it.
Can't find Externel SD Card on my PHOne
I installed a 32GB external SD Card on my phone - when I plug in my computer I can see it just fine - I see T999 and Card as, connected to my computer via USB - this looked really different from how I have seen the external SD Card presented on other phones???
Plus - when I open ROOT Explorer or ES File Explorer to try to manage files on the Ext SD Card - I can't seem to find it anywhere - I can see the "SD Card" - which is the internal SD Card that comes with the phone- I have music files I have already put on that along with a ROM and Kernel Zip File that I flashed recently - and which I added prior to getting the 32GB external SD Card.
FYI - On my phone, When I go to 'Settings" Storage - I can see there is an SD Card with 29.71GB of available space (I don't have any files on it yet) - So I know the phone can recognize it - I just can't find it using any of the file explorers - is there some setting I have neglected to turn on ?
when I installed an SD card on my wifes EVO LTE I see both internal and external SD Cards - with names like SD Card - EXT SD Card -and or SDCard2 all depending on what program I was using to locate them -
on my new GALAXY SIII, right now I only see SDCard and can;t locate th external SD Card - any suggestions? (I feel like a real noob)

Yeah I gave up using DoubleTwist because of the outdated/slow support like what you are having and how it doesnt work well with mp3s over 10 mb. I switched to Syncr to use iTunes as my playlist manager and it works perfect. Syncr had support for the S3 almost the next day.

Unfortunately it only works for the international version (already tried it). I would hope that something like this could be created/ported for the US variants. I'd do it myself, but this kind of stuff is way over my head
Maybe one of our great devs could make this happen???

yes, you can use CWM (ROM Manager) to flash ROMs on the external card (although I prefer booting into Recovery and flashing the zip files manually).
Root Explorer Problem
I am having a similar problem. My phone recognizes my external SD card (64 GB Sandisk Ultra).
I can transfer files from my computer to my ExtSD via usb.
When I go in to my my files on my phone it shows ExtSD Card and SD Card, but root explorer, ES file, and Astro will not show ExtSD.
I have been looking all over for a solution but have yet to find one.
I finally realized what going to mnt/extsdCard meant. Feel pretty dumb.
In case people haven't seen, there is now a way to mount the external card in mass storage mode for US/LTE variants of the SG3:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768752
It won't let me see hidden folders in camera or media sharing mode. I hide folders with a "." in front of it, so like /.Wallpapers/ won't show up. Any way to fix this without renaming it?
