Hey guys not sure if everyone similar to, me has this issue but my phone signal is awful and I can never connect to my mobile imternet except for a few occassions.
I recently came over from an iPhone 3G and have found that my phone signal is terrible in comparison.
For example
Location: In my bedroom
iPhone 3G:
Mobile signal: Full bars
Mobile Internet: Full 3G, All other networks available
Samsung Galaxy S2:
Mobile Signal: Maximum of 2 out of 4 bars.
Mobile Internet: None. Cannot pick up any form of mobile internet.
Notes:
- By mobile internet I mean non-WiFi connections.
- On O2-UK network
- Pay monthly Contract, 300 minutes, Unlimited text and 500mb Mobile Internet
-Not using a case on my phone
-Had phone for 2 weeks
- iPhone 3G was PAYG: Unlimited texts and 500mb Mobile Internet
- Had no other issues with phone

I've tried to foresee any questions but I'm sure there will be stuff I missed out,
Thanks for reading,

check if your APN is correct. when I first had sgs2 I was with o2 and i had to manually setup the apn.
Thanks for the reply
I have two options...
O2 Mobile Web
or
O2 MMS POST PAY
I was on mobile web, changing to MMS POST PAY did not solve the problem.
I have the option to manually add a new APN, it gives me a list of loads of things to enter like proxies, ports etc.. Is this what I should do?
Flash some different modems. Always worth a try.

I've managed to get WAP over GPRS working now - these intructions from O2 are what I followed - except that I first deleted teh existing connection (Right-tap on it and select delete):
Xda II GPRS WAP manual settings Pre-pay
It is not possible to select the 'Prepaid' option within 'My Xda' Connections in the O2 Active UI on the XdaII - 'Postpaid' is selected as default and cannot be changed.
To use the XdaII with an O2 Prepay SIM then the WAP settings will need to be changed manually - note that it will not be necessary to carry out a hard (full) reset in order to complete this.
IMPORTANT - once the WAP settings have been changed, if a hard reset is carried out at some future point, then the settings will automatically be re-configured back to Postpaid and they will need to be manually changed again..
XdaII Manual Setup - GPRS WAP (Prepay)
Tap Start > Settings
Tap 'Connections' tab
Tap 'Connections' icon
Under 'My Work Network' tap 'Manage existing connections'
Tap 'Edit'
The 'Select a modem:' drop-down box should be set to 'Cellular Line (GPRS)'
Tap 'Next'
Access Point Name: payandgo.o2.co.uk
Tap 'Next'
Usernameayandgo
Password: password
Domain: leave blank
Tap 'Advanced'
On the 'TCP/IP' tab, only 'Use server-assigned IP address' should be selected
Tap the 'Servers' tab
Only 'Use server-assigned addresses' should be selected
Tap 'OK'
Tap 'Finish'
Tap 'Proxy Settings' tab (*Note, the soft keyboard may be hiding this tab - tap the keyboard icon at bottom right to clear this away)
Ensure that 'This network connects to the Internet' box is ticked
Ensure that 'This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet' box is ticked
Tap 'Advanced'
In the 'WAP' field (Server) enter: 193.113.200.195
In the field to the right of this (Port) enter: 9201
Tap 'OK' and exit
Once you have installed the settings into your handset and saved them, please switch off your handset and switch it back on. This will activate the settings for you.
you can still have full internet on o2 p&g, mines working fine
so you can actually use Interent Explorer to reach html pages?
Can you check out your settings and see how they differ from what's in my last post? Then I'll see if I can get this working too...
Just a quick not here. Try changing the http port to 8080 instead of the default 80 (thanks to gugi_sat). All works perfectly for me now Just need MMS now.

Can any one help me do settings for My Siemens SX-56 Settings for Ufone or Telenor (PAKISTAN) Settings. I have tried to do the settings by accessing the web pages of the said companies but its General Settings and i seem to get lost with the complicated way the settings provided by Ufone.
I also need to know how to send mms which i could not figure out at all.
thx

I can help you with the GPRS and MMS settings for Ufone. No clue about telenor.
For GPRS do the following: (I'm assuming your device has WM2003SE)
- Start > Settings
- Select the Connections tab and click on the Connections Icon
- Click on the Advanced Tab
- Click on the Select Networks button
- On the Network Management screen, under the first dropdown list (for
"programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using",
click the New button.
- On the next screen, enter an ISP name, e.g. UfoneGRPS
- No other settings needed, save these settings and clic on the Tasks Tab
- Now here you will see your UfoneGPRS connection listed with a bunch of
options
- Click on the Add a new modem connection option under UfoneGPRS
- Enter a name for your connection e.g. UfoneInternet
- Select CellularLine)GPRS) in the Select a modem setting, click next
- Enter ufone.plinternet in the Access Point Name box
- Click Next. No further entries needed, click Finish and save settings.
Your connection is now set. Click ok to get all the way back, on the today screen click on the signal strength icon to display the connection bubble. It should display your newly made connection name with a "connect GPRS" lick. Click on it and you should be connected to the Ufone GPRS network in a few seconds.
Good luck. Lemme know how it goes.
p.s. before you can use GPRS and MMS you have to call the customer services at Ufone and ask them to activate both of these services for you. It takes some time for this to happen e.g. you call them today and it will start working perhaps the next day.
For MMS do the following:
Again like the above you have to create a new connection by first creating a connection name and then a new modem connection for it. Lets say you called the connection "UfoneMMS"
These are the settings for that modem connection for UfoneMMS
- Connection Name: Ufone.mms
- AccessPoint: ufone.plmms
- Everything else: default
After this, go to pocket outlook, in the settings, do the following:
Create a Message Server as folows:
Server:
Name: UfoneMsgServer
Gateway: 172.16.13.27
Port: 9201
Address: http://www.ufonemms.com:80/
xxxxxxxx=9999999
(the xxxxxxxx and 99999999 are your MMS account username and mailbox ID that Ufone creates for you and you have to obtain it form their customer services peeps).
Then in the main settings, set the following parameters:
- Connect via: Here you select your connection name e.g. Ufone.mms
- Connect to Server: UfoneMsgServer (the server you just defined)
One last thing, I dont know how important this is but they always say to do it..
In the Slect Networks screen (where you first defined your connection), click on the Dialing Rules buttons and click "use dialing rules". Then setup new Dialing rules for say, Mobile as follows:
Dialing rules: Dialing patterns
Local: G
L.D. : G
Intl.: G
You should be all set up.
I have heard that recenty they changed some MMS related configuration so you might wanna chekc up with them to see if all the above parameters for MMS are still valid. I had them all setup and working perfectly for a while... but I havent used MMS in a long time so I dont know whats been happening recently.
If you have any trouble, lemme know. Everything should work, its working on my machine.
Access point is ufone.plinternet for lahore connections and
ufone.piinternet for islamabad connections and I think it differs from city to city be sure to check with ufone
APN
What is the Access Point Name for Multan?
please help me.

If you have struggled to enable MMS on you XDA I then read further...
My XDA
OS: PPC2002
ROM: 3.20.06 ENG
ROM DATE: 07/30/03
RADIO: 4.21.00
Service Provider: OPTUS (Australia)
Software you need: EZWAP ver:2.5 (search google for a download)
Other things before starting: I am under the impression that you need to ask your service provider to enable mms on yor account before it will work? I got my sim-card in Feb 2004, and never asked optus to enable mms on my device (i only asked them for their server settings - which they couldnt give me cuz they suck) Mine works, so i'm assuming its enabled by default. Just ask them anyways.
And finally before we start: This xda is not (to my knowledge) cooked in any way. It is just as i got it.
I've tested this 3 times now, and it worked perfectly every time. Since i'm using optus (prepaid) and i couldnt find ANY details anywhere on the net for optus network MMS settings, i'm posting it here for all who are just as fed up with the lame-ass customer service as i am.
(This is quite a long post, but im taking it hell into detail here. Another thing.. its written in dumbass language so if i say something like "click OK (top right of screen)" then just think of all the newbies )

This should work now when you send or receive MMS messages!!! yayy!
Here are a few problems i've picked up; they might happen to you and then again might not... if anyone has a solution for them please let me know
1) When you get a mms message, it will display a notification on your screen. When i choose to 'get now' it just does nothing. I have to go to my inbox and the message is there, then select to download. Not a big problem, but kinda irritating? I think someone else in these forums had the same problem.
2) Whenever i used my phone on my XDA it doesnt allow me to 'close' the phone-application. thus its always running in the background then. It's like i'm just swapping between the today screen and phone. ANyways, the problem is this:
the MMS works as long as i havent used the phone. It seems that the phone application (or connection or whatever) is conflicting with the EzWAP software, or the GPRS connection or something. The only way i can get MMS to work after using the phone is by doing soft-reset. Then everything works fine. I'm guessing that if your phone is closing properly then you wouldnt have this problem at all.
If this has happened to anyone (the phone not closing) and you have fixed it please let us know!
3) This is unrelated to MMS.
I cant do a soft-reset when my SD card (1GB Ridata 66X) is inside the unit. When i do this, i just get a blank white screen. When i take the card out and soft-reset then it works fine. Any ideas?
Thats it, happy MMS'ing!!!
The cost (for anyone interested) of sending a mms message to myself and receiving it was AU$0.60 in total. This is on the OPTUS network, using prepaid.
ok, if this even helped ONE person then i'm happy

I've been searching google and the search funtion on this site for just over 3 hours now, and it's quickly cheesing me off...lol
I'd be sooooooooo happy and appreciate any help I can get.
cheers everyone
Matt
I cant help you with your connection settings but with regards to the java thing..
I dont think that the browser has java integrated....
The java thing you see in the start menu is a standalone app for running java based stuff........... as far as I know.
I tried that speedtest site and I couldnt get it going......
sounds to me like the 3g toggle is set to off. (that or you simply aren't in a 3g area.)
you say you can get to mobilegenie, so obviously the connection works. its the same connection whether 3g is on or off, so messing with the settings is unlikely to have any effect.

forget that that's wrong, (well, not strictly wrong, but potentially inaccurate enough to ignore)
its
settings menu all settings connections
I deleted all of the bull **** settings that orange gave me, deleted all my data controllers etc, hard reset, let the phone detect settings automatically.
Now all I do if I wanna use 3G mode, is simply click on or off in comm manager.
But, I have NO clue what roughly download speed should be for 3g....but i used uk broadband speed checker.....always been reliable for me, for years.
My resuly while in 3G mode while sitting on my bed (lol) was 376 Kbps download speed.
I have no clue...is that ok? acceptable for 3g?
cheers
Matt

First off where are you at? Edit, figured out you were in the EU ...
Is this a EU or a TMOUS HD2
If you are in the EU and Have a EU version then 3G should work fine ...
If you are in the EU and have a US version 3g may not work fine ....

I'm in South Wales, UK...near Cardiff......my phone version??
ermmm, well in "about phone" it says:
T-Mobile Leo (which I can't understand as i got it on contract from orange....why would it say t-mobile??
cpu: QUALCOMM (R) 8250B
speed: 1024 MHz
Ram Size: 576MB
Data Bus: 32 bits
----------------------------
Software = Elegancia 9.5 rom
Radio = 2.09.50.29_2
protocol version 15.36.50.07U
manilla version = 2.5.20121412.1
OS Version: 5.2.23569 (23569.5.5.0)

This all sound ok and normal?
I'm lost as to why it says T-Mobile Leo...REALLY lost, coz it was bought from orange shop, orange contract......just threw contract sim away and installed a 3g orange pay as you go sim..

Well that certainly looks like a TMOUS Leo ....
Maybe someone can wade in here, but as far as I know, the TMOUS version will not get good 3G in EU ..
easy way to tell if its normal or tmous,,,, is the send key green? is the end key red? if they're both white then its regular, red+green= imported tmous.
the definitive way is settings about phone hardware info flash size. 512 regular 1024 tmous.
it could easily be that the shop simply bought a box of hd2s from t mobile uk, inter store sales, maybe a freelance shop, whatever
oh hang on, cooked rom. no doubt based on tmous stock to unlock the ram, which could be why it's showing as a t mo.
got the box in front of me..says: HTC HD2 T8585..thats about it...will have to open box for 2nd time ever and have a look.
were the 3g download speeds ok?
Matt
ah its hard to tell speeds and what you are vs what you should get. 1 bar 3g is preeeety slow, indoors, sat next to a large electrical output (your pc) maybe a desk lamp, all these things affect speed.
The bbc did some speed tests last year, and orange scored an average of 1.1 Mbps( a third of their advertised speeds), and they likely did static tests, maybe outdoors, probably in main city centers with decent 3 or 4 bar reception at least, so your 376 Kbps, 33% of their average, sounds reasonable. Its not a very exact science, mobile speed testing.
TMOUS has disabled all icons showing things as "E", "H" and "3.5+" etc. Your acess depends on the band you are on (compare specs of the phone with the same in your country). Install custom rom or just toolbar and all icons shall appear correct. If you need apps PM me
I cant send and receive any SMS msg... i tried
Open the Dialer
- Type *#*#4636#*#*
- This will open a "Testing" Window. Select Phone Information
- Scroll Down till you see "SMSC". Press Refresh to show your current Message Centre Number
- Press Update to manually change it.
When i click on refresh its show me 00
Preferred Network type:
GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)
Toggle DNS CHECK: 0.0.0.0 not allowed
I dont know whats happens...
CALL is normal
But everyday i always receive ADs from the operator.. Like Promos etc in SMS msg..
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
Just out of curiousity...
Go to your home screen
Hit Menu, Go to Settings, Go to Wireless and Network, at the bottom hit Mobile Networks, then make sure Data Enabled is checked.
Get back to me.
