[Q] Problem with custom ringtones - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Hi all, please forgive me if this has been asked before. I could not find any info on it. I am having a problem using custom ringtones on my AT&T SGS2. When I create a ringtone and put it in the media/audio/ringtones folder it shows up in my sound settings fine. When I select a custom made ringtone for my default ringer the phone won't make any sound when someone calls me. Everything else works, I can accept or decline the call, but no sound. The strange part is if I use that same ringtone for an individual contact it will ring fine when that person calls me. It just won't work for a default ringer. Any ideas?

If they're not already created, create two folders on your internal sd card. name one Ringtones and the other Notifications. Then any sound file you drop into them will show up in your lists when you go to change the respective tones.

I have already done that. They show up fine. The problem is that when I select one of the files as the default ringer it won't make any sound. But it rings just fine when set to an individual contact.

Just download ringdroid and make a ringtone from any music files you have on you're phone.....then when your done hit save and set as default. Done!

In your first post you said you put the files in media/audio/ringtones folder. I have heard before that putting them there won't work if you want to use them as tones. The ringtones and notifications folder would have to be in your main directory on the internal (or external) sd card.
I have heard of people dropping sound files into the media folders with no success when they try to use them.
I don't know. maybe I am misunderstanding your problem though.

I was able to get it working with ringdroid, thanks boobie watcher! I just opened the ringtones i already made in ringdroid and then saved them. Works fine now.

Something to share...

Hi to all members! I would just like to share to you the ring tone I'm using on my xda. Kinda different from all other ring tones commonly used. Here I used Windows XP Speech module program (in Control Panel, you'll find this menu). Go to Text to Speech tab and just type in any message you want, and let the computer speak for you. Just use Windows Recorder or any other sound recording program (i.e. Nero Wave Editor) to capture the digital voice generated. Enhance the sound and save it as .WAV file. You can download the sample Uhhh, planning to attach the sound file (my ring tone) but, there seems to be no option for attachment. Anyway, after you created voice ring tones, load this as your ring tone, when you receive incoming calls, your friends will be surprised and think they're at the Airport (something like "paging Mr......, you have an incoming call").
On the other hand--the SMSExport I installed in my xda doesn't seemed to work..it cannot even "see" my previous and new text messages. Is there any other way I can export my SMS text messages to computer (possibly upload using ActiveSynch), so I can have them printed or archive to disk? Tried also, Message Master Client Server, however it can't transmit SMS using SIM card install (or the xda radio system itself). You have to use an external phone (via infrared) to transmit SMS. Anybody can help us out on this?
Finally, I still have other things to share, but I cannot dig them out from my hard disk...perhaps next time..
Regards to all!
Mel

Contact custom rightone

I've recently moved from Diamond to Hero and now trying to set custom ringtones to each contact (still using VoiceRing program that scans your MSOutlook contacts and creates Mp3 or WAV files with spelling of contact names).
I've created /Media/audio/ringtones folder on my SD card, put all sounds there, spent 1 hour manually editing contacts information to set individual ringtones (all new ringtone files were available and I could assign it to the contact) and as a result I have always default ringtone
UPDATE: somehow it works for some contacts, for doesn't (still have default ringtone)
Any suggestions?
same problem here too. Custom contact ringtone does NOT work. Always the default ringtone rings.
Have you found any solution yet?

Hello,
I'm new to the forum and had the same problem with my Telus HTC Hero. I joined the forum just to share my solution.
1. Using another phone create the contact and number of that phone.
2. Assign your ringtone to this contact and call the Hero.
3. When the Hero rings notice the format of the phone number calling.
4. Edit that contact to match the format that was on the Hero screen.
My contacts ringtone didn't work because the Hero's format was XXX2123434 and I had (XXX) 212-3434 in my contacts mobile number.
I changed all to match the Hero and now ringtones work as they should. I hope this helps you and all with the same problem.

Thunderstick and custom ring tones

Sometimes my custom ringtones don't work, play a different tone or seems to play the last callers tone for the new caller.
Is there a fix?
Try this. Create folder on root of the sdcard titled "audio". Inside this folder create 2 others seperate folder. 1 name "notifications" & "ringtones". Inside the apropiate folders place the alerts tones of your choice.
Tried that, still not 100% working correctly.

[Q] new to the Evo3D, noob questions

im new to the world of android and i have a few noob questions that i was looking to get some help with. any help will be greatly appreciated.
1. how do i get custom ringtones for text messages? i can set the ringers for contacts and incoming calls but is there a way to change them for texts?
2. is there any way that i can use google voice on my phone without having to port over my sprint line. i just want to add a second line to my current phone. or does anyone know of a free voice over ip app.
thanks in advance for all help.
To get custom ringtones for text messages, go into your text messaging app, menu, settings, notifications, then notification sound. From there you can change it. If you use an app such as ringdroid, you can create your own ringtones and they will appear in the notification sound menu when you copy the file from /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones to /system/media/audio/notifications, using root explorer, etc., then reboot.
Also, you have to be rooted to access the system files using root explorer.
if you go into the notification setting that way it one gives me the choices from the ringtones that came with the phone. how do i assign rings that i download as i did for incoming calls without rooting my phone.

[Q] Custom Ringtones/Vibrations?

I have the Motorola Photon 4G, and the one thing I miss about my LG Rumor 2 (Yes, very old) is the ability to set a custom vibration for SMS, MMS, Calls, Email, and other various things. I also miss being able to give contacts certain ringtones. Like for my GF it would play a melody and when my Mom or Dad called it would play a siren. Is there app or mod that can do this for me? I would still like to use the stock dialer and contact manager though.
Any help?
You should be able to set a ringtone for each contact in the Contacts manager. That will apply for the calls from each person.
This app will allow you to set a tone for incoming text messages and the "Plus" version of that app will work for text and MMS.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.smssounds.lite
For ringtones, make a new file in your sd card called ringtones, put the ringtones inside and set it from your settings>sound
For vibrations, I'm not sure.
This will only work for ringtones, not message tones, Unfortunately.
Are there any other apps out there people would like to recommend?
,ake a folder in sd card with the name ringtones and put all ur custom rings in there .den u can hav em and about vibration i guess there is no such way....there are sum apps available which just sets the vibration times...
