I found a bunch of places that people had modded the Rosie.apk to remove the text below icons in Rosie. I tried flashing a few zip's that were supposed to do this but it ended up just making Rosie FC because it wasnt for the Rezound's Rosie. I am running Ineffabilis v1.0 and saw on the MikMik Forums this has been done on many othe Phones/Rosie's. If someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. I tried moving the resources.arsc from a no text Rosie into the stock Rosie but that didnt work out well. Thanks for any help.
Go into tweaks ....its in there

when people reference "Rosie" they are usually talking about the sense UI "dock". its the bottom bar on your screen.
I'm sorry maybe I wasn't clear about what I am trying to do. I know there is an option to "Hide Navbar Label" but I want to remove the text below the icons on the home screens. I know Launcher Pro and a few others have this option but I would like to do it with the stock launcher. This is what I am describing LINK.
Here's a Rosie.apk from BAMF ROM, with the text removed.
Well I gave that a shot and unfortunately it does still contain text under the icons. I appreciate the effort though. Hopefully other people will want this MOD and it will be a little easier to come by. If I knew what to edit I would gladly do it myself. Thats the one last thing that would make my setup perfect. It seems like I can find it for every HTC phone but the Rezound and they refuse to work on my phone.
I will double check that I uploaded the right one but that's what I'm using...
This will have my modified phone icon, but I can reupload an original theme version at a later time. I pulled this straight from /system/app, so if it doesn't work, it's something you are or aren't doing....
http://db.tt/eEqKH87O
Well I guess it must be me doing something wrong. I have tried both Rosie's posted in this thread and for some reason I can get them to work but the dastardly icon text still exists. I am using one of the Beats skins, would that have anything to do with it? I am kind of at a loss as to what I can do. If there is a certain way to apply the Rosie please let me know. Unfortunately I feel like I'm losing the battle no matter what I try.
Try the default skin and see if anything changes. Also, how are you installing the different Rosie? Did your phone icon change to mine after you installed?
Yes the phone icon did change. I guess I will try using the default skin, switching the Rosie and going back to the beats skin. I cant see the beats skin being the reason the text would stay there but who knows. Ill give it a shot and keep you posted. Thanks for all the help.
*EDIT* Ok so I tried again after switching to the HTC skin and no dice. I have never had this much trouble with any mod on any of my five android phones. I have been insalling them by moving the edited rosie to /system/app and fixing permissions all via root explorer. I could try going the ADB route but I dont know why that would be any different. What was your process in getting it to work?
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/27022937/BAMFSettings.apk
See if there's an option in here to disable it. I don't see one on my phone, but I recall possibly doing something besides installing the different Rosie...
Alright I tried that too. It wasn't in BAMF settings and I have basically tried everything under the sun to get this to work. I could easily use LP or ADW but I like all the sense widgets. I guess it just wasn't meant to be. I do appreciate all you assistance. My Rezound just doesn't want to cooperate. Damn icon text! Damn you right to hell!
One last thing...you should do a nand backup and hard reset, just to see. There is absolutely no reason that Rosie I posted doesn't just work. I stuck it in a new ROM I flashed last night and it worked from the get-go.
By hard reset you mean format/wipe everything? System, cache, dalvik etc... or something else? Its funny because I even put the Rosie you uploaded into the new BAMF Rezound cubed before I loaded it and for some reason it still didn't stick. There must be something that I am missing. I am no android genius but I am fluent in ADB and have dealt with about ten different android phones. I just cant believe this is giving me such an issue.

Yes, hard reset = full wipe (lingo from my WinMo days).
I don't know what to tell you. I loaded my phone with CleanROM and had it up and running for awhile before discovering BAMF ROM had the textless Rosie...all I did was DL BAMF, stole the Rosie and dropped it in...did a restart with dalvik wipe and all was well

I also pulled the Rosie.apk and bamfsettings.apk from BAMF 1.01 and, after copying over the original to somewhere safe and checking its permissions, I dropped the 2 files into /system/app, fixed permissions, rebooted into recovery, wiped cache and dalvik and rebooted normally.
You will lose any non-HTC widgets on your home screens, but you can set them back up.
BTW, Bamfsettings is, itself AMAZING.

You can drop apps in /system, first, change permissions, then transfer them to system/app without ever having any disruptions in data/home screens/widgets/etc. This goes for all apps...
Your Rosie is now textless?

Does anyone know if it's possible to use the stock notification bar/drop down on Eugene's Frankin-Twiz? I would assume it's just a matter of grabbing it from one of the earlier roms, but I'm not too sure on the specifics of how to do so.
I assumed it was just a matter of editing the framework-res, but like I said, not too sure which file(s) it would be.
Am I completely wrong in thinking this is possible? Thanks!

Hi,
do you mean just the matte black instead of glossy bar along the top of the screen? Or the pull down menu showing you current notifications? Or Both?
If just the first, its only one or two drawable files in framework-res.apk, if the latter (pull down on its own or with the top bar too) then its files in both framework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk, not too hard to figure out really.
My beta vertical battery mod for franken-twiz (found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=758797) includes most of the changes, and I can post a twframework-res.apk to revert the rest, but be warned, I switched to the non-glossy touchwiz drawable files that come with every other Galaxy S phone, stupid samsung/t-mobile decided our phone needed to be "shinier" than the rest of the series =(.
Cheers,
=)

Hey thanks for the response! I actually really like your work!
I guess to make it easier to explain, the only thing I don't like from Frankin-twiz is when you pull the bar down, where it says "T-Mobile" and "No notifications" or "Ongoing" ... the text doesn't exactly fit in the area.
And I do prefer the matte look over the glossy, so that's probably why I like your stuff!
Edit: Disregard the question about pushing via ADB. I see your instructions in the other thread.
Okay I got the bar taken care of and it looks great! Thank you for that.
Now I'm about to do twframework-res.apk so that it matches, but before I do, does it go in /system/framework as well and do you recommend clearing the cache partition and dalvik-cache afterwards?
Well I got it and it looks perfect! Thanks so much for your help and work!
Edit: Ran into an issue. Whenever I try to download/install from the market, I get a Force Close on com.android.vending. Any idea why? I wasn't getting that problem before.

Hi,
Not sure about any FC issues, market works fine for me.
That said, however, usually FC issues from mods like this can be fixed by running a repair permissions in rom mamager, then rebooting into clockwork mod and clearing the cache and dalvik-cache.
And also, I ALWAYS recommend clearing the cache/dalvik-cache after any mod.
Cheers,
=)

You could also go into settings, apps, manage, market, and uninstall updates..
I don't understand how this happens to ppl... Happened alot with htc devices but never on my sammy yet...
Edit: Thanks Junk, didn't see your post before my last response. That took care of the problem. I wonder how that happened, either way, thank you!
Now that some cool things for the Fascinate are starting to show up, I kinda pieced some things together from different sources to come up with my perfect rom (for today anyways ).
I have been running jt1134’s Super Clean D101 rom for awhile now. I found that I like some of the Samsung stock apps that were removed from his rom a little bit better. I found that I really liked the stock clock, music player, and messaging (with the swipeable features). So I added those back in.
Also added was the Blue Minimalism v1.3 Theme for a little blue, and the black notification bar with the see-thru drop down menu from the “Blackmod”. It also has the stock, non-puzzle, unlock screen with blue.
The kernel is stock with no oc.
Just trying to share what I like at the moment. I take no credit other than mixing up some ingredients on work others have done. The credit really goes to:
Jt1134. For that awesome clean rom tons of us have been using lately!
Raiderrep. For porting over the blue minimalism v1.3 theme (thanks to the original developer)
Stanrc. For the black notification bar and clear notification drop down menu.
DroidX007. For pulling the stock Samsung apps out for use and for being brave to test the blue minimalism theme out.
This is a clockwork recovery file. Unzip and put file inside into your SD card/clockworkmod/backup file and restore from menu. If someone knows how to switch it over to an update file, or show me how to do it, that would be great.

Very very nice. I don't think I'll be flashing it though. I like the puzzle unlock screen and some of the bloatware that gets removed in this. I also like the neon blue loading screens, but I want to make them darker. I didn't think I wanted anything TW on my phone when I first got it but a few aspects of it have grown on me.
EDIT: We live in the same city :O I think I will flash this. I love blue. But what all gets removed, and what happens if I have certain things frozen with Titanum? Will they just be left alone?
Well man from the Burg, make sure you do a back up first of what you got before you flash any rom. That way, if you ever need to get back those programs, you are safe.
I dont use Titanium but I would assume the files will still remain in you backup folder. When they are frozen, the arent deleted. So as long as you keep that backup file untouched, you should be able to restore those through Titanium as well.
As for everything that is removed, the base rom is Jt's and you can see it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=796171
All the essentials are there. Jt just removed a lot of the stuff that really was bogging down the system. He also removed some of the Samsung TW style apps and replaced them with stock android apps. I put those back in as listed in the OP.
Do a backup, flash it then you if you like it you can start adding anything deleted back into it with Titanium.
Also, in Jt's op linked above, you can get the puzzle screen lock back.

Alright. I hate the bloatware but I'm keeping it frozen so the Froyo update will be easy. I'm flashing now.
EDIT: Finally got it to run. Will this remove my lag fix?
EDIT 2: Why is everything wiped? I was not expecting that...
After restoring, backing up my contacts, and re-flashing, my contacts restored but my apps decided not to. But the phone just feels...faster. Do I need to restore, backup, and flash again?
Looks nice but I am not smart enough to make this work.

Use Titanium to reinstall all your apps. When you flash roms, you get real good at reinstalling your apps and settings. Hint, if you use LauncherPro or ADW, there is a backup function that will back up your screens exactly like you had it!

Battery life on my Fascinate has never been the greatest but I didn't notice a difference when a switched to a deodexed Rom.

I have not tried this rom, but I assume its deodexed because steeeler is using Jt's deodexed super clean rom. with add mods and tweaks like Raidereps Blue Minimalism theme and other sources as well that he listed at the OP. It looks like it should be a pretty straight forward rom its just not a zip file so it will be installed differently thru CWR.

Is there anyway to put the visual voicemail back in to prevent the dialer from crashing. If you touch the voicemail button the dialer will crash. That was my issue with JT's rom. I can't seem to get voicemail back in....

Good catch, first time I heard of that problem. I always just use the quick dial 1 to go to voicemail.
I wonder if it has something to do with the deodexing. This is a different dialer than on Jt's.

Put a deodex'ed VVMService.apk back in system and should fix the fc.
I can't get the notification widgets to change. I have changed the widget.txt file in system, customize to be:
toggleWifi|toggleGPS|toggleBrightness|toggleFlashlight
but I have GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth, Data, Flashlight, sound in the pull down. I have rebooted many times but it is still not changing to what it should be. Is there another way to force this?
I'm not extremely sure, but I think you have to have the same amount of widgets in the text file as you original have which in this case would be six. You currently stated having made a text file with four, try adding two more toggles.
Hope this helps.

Can you confirm that you don't need EXACTLY six widgets?
I managed to bork my phone this morning by trying to add a seventh widget and it wouldn't boot fully.
I didn't think to check the permissions after editing with root explorer, but got the phone up and running again by using adb to push back the original widgets.txt while in clockwork.
I then edited it again to have just six and deleted one of the "stock" ones by replacing it with the AutoRotate one. Phone booted fine.
Interestingly, my permissions on the file are rw-rw-rw- so I'm curious what the permissions are that kept you from changing. No problems booting, either, huh?

Is there a way to change the top notification bar on Stock 2.1 to make it look something like Khal's or any of the others out there. The stock one is very vanilla compared to some of the others I have seen. Will update.zip work with an original sbf (or through OR) or does a custom rom have to be in place before you can modify anything like this? I know there are work arounds for some things like App2sd,...but not sure about something like this.

I think you can just need to use something like metamorph, but I haven't tried it. The droidpirate website has a lot of different morphs that can be applied via metamorph.
I strongly recommend you get Open Recovery (or better: Androidiani Recovery) installed so that you can make and restore nandroid backups of system, data, and cache. Themeing can easily cause bootloops and nandroid backups will save a lot of headache.
I personally could not install any metamorph themes while on stock 2.1, but then again I was trying to use owq's gb theme and it would hang indefinitely. Maybe it was just the theme perhaps.
Sent from my XT720 using XDA App
I used metamorph once on stock and got a bootloop. Wasn't sure if anything could be done with the stock. Know how to do it on Khal's rom, but alas that is why it is custom.

I used metamorph on stock 2.1 too. Not every morph worked but I could change my status bar to black or grey...
Cool. Do you still remember which ones you used? I have strolled around DroidPirate, but bootloops drive me bonkers, so I took a break from tinkering for a bit.
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
A fair amount of people have looked at this, so I wanted to shed some light on what I did.
I used Metamorph/Droidpirate and played around with it. It works well but can only apply one morph at a time and it requires reboot after each. Can get tiresome. Make a nandroid before. If you get bogged down or want to start from scratch, just restore your system only part of the backup, reboot and your notification is stock.
And always remember, even a broken clock is right twice a day.

It depends on if you are running a deodexed version of the ROM currently. If yes, then, it should work as you described. If it is still ODEXED, then, no it won't.

Thanks, I did see that but I didn't like the idea of another app running in the background when I could just change one out. If I wasn't unlocked and rooted I would use that.
In case anyone wants it I pulled the .apk out of flex360's rom. Thanks flex360.
This, I believe, also has the ultrasmooth mod.
If posting this is against the rules or whatever let me know and I'll remove it. Just thought it would save people having to download a 500+mb rom if they are running a deodex rom and want the landscape rosie.
I kind of thought this would make the lockscreen rotate too but it doesn't... I have my phone sitting on the kickstand at work and I turn it on to look at the weather on the lockscreen which is why I originally wanted it rotated.

either this apk doesn't play well with viper, or I installed it wrong. I dropped it in /system/app and set permissions, but just got a black screen on reboot. Luckily, I was able to install apex from the play store from my computer, and once that installed, I was able to launch root explorer and change back to the backup rosie.apk I made before I pushed the new one. How are you supposed to install this?
Weird. Maybe some roms have changes not compatible or something. I did exactly what you did and it worked fine for me on the fresh 5.1.1 rom. I just renamed my original and put this one in system>app and changed permissions. After a reboot it worked.
I assume you meant system>app.

If its still odexed first delete the Rosie.odex file in root explorer then place your new Rosie in there. If you have modified the Rosie make sure it is signed. Signature verification has not been disabled in any of the roms that are out I don't believe.

I agree with Flex360. I'm an Android nub learning slowly here. Tried a few of the new roms and his is just...ultra smooth.
Crazy good battery life too, do the one click root. Then install and you are g2g.
Thanks Flex! I can't post on developer yet, 8 more posts! woot.

I really do like his rom but i want the menu mod. If i flash the menu mod i lose the power menu mod and maybe something else...not sure. It's hard to choose, lol. I'm glad we have so many cool ROM options.
