[Q] Photon Wifi tethering Issues? - Motorola Photon 4G

Hey all, I'm new here, and just rooted my Photon yesterday thanks to help from this forum. Having some problems with the WiFi tethering connecting to my Wii and PS3, been able to connect to my computers with no problem tho. I've done some research and see that it's due to the AdHoc aspect of things.
I'm just curious if anyone has found a way around this?

How did you set up tethering?
I have tried all the tricks I can find in the forum, and still no luck. My computers can see the Photon, but there is no throughput.

WI FI Issues
I'm using Wi Fi tether with no problems as long as I leave it unsecured but when I try to secure it won't work. Any suggestions?

Tether Gtab to phone for internet access? is it possoble?

Just wondering if its possible to take your droid phone and tether it to the Gtab like you can with a laptop in order to get online.
You need to download the drver for the pc to get something like pdanet to work, so not sure about this

Sure. For Android phone, tons of apps on Google market can let it become Wifi hot spot. Then your gtab can pickup wifi signal to connect to internet. You can check <G Tablet Themes and Apps> section on xda-developers.com.

If you search this forum for wifi tethering, you will find a lot of information on different ways to accomplish this. A little reading goes far here, redundant posts do not. You can find Search field on the top right...
Did search, didnt really find a useful answer.
I have pdanet on droid x2 and am able to connect laptop to internet.
I tried connecting phone and tablet with bluetooth and no luck.
Since I dont have a micro usb to mini usb cable to connect the two to try that im asking if it works. Only cable like that I found was on ebay from hong kong
You will need to do WiFi tethering, not bluetooth or USB.
It seems to do WiFi tethering, if you don't have native phone support you have to root and use one of the apps that provide ad hoc support. I have read all the bluetooth stuff and no one seems to get it working.
Wireless Tether and Barnacle Wireless Tether
I used both of these apps on my rooted Droid X to create wi-fi hotspots and connect my gTabs to them without having to do anything special. I've used VEGAn 5.1.1 and VEGAn Ginger as well as the CyanogenMod 7.0.3 (Stable release) and it's worked with all of them.

[Q] Portable Wi-Fi hotspot tethering, slow and constant disconnects

Upgraded from SGS to SGS 2 over the weekend and love the new phone. The only thing I am having troubles with is the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot tethering. If I use USB tethering it works perfectly but if I use Portable Wi-Fi hotspot with my computer it is slow/clunky and often reverts to "limited connection" on the computer and then under the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot heading on the phone it comes up with Error (in blue).
Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions or idea's?
For all of those who wish to post "Just use usb tethering" I will thank you in advance so you don't have to post!
My preference is to use Portable Wifi hotspot.
There must be some data network problem with ur network carrier,,,mine is working just fine,,
but it happens when 3g strength is bad,,
Thanks for the reply but if this was the case then the internet on the phone and with the USB tethering would be the same and they are not, so I am pretty sure it is just related to the wireless tethering. Hope this helps explain why I think you are on the wrong track. Cheers.
I've been meaning to post about myself too. Tethering sometime is very slow. But when I tried download using the phone, the speed its great. Must be software related problem.

Yes I am not the only one there is a thread over at the Vodafone Community (AU) site that a couple of other people seem to be having the same problem and it appears Voda have acknowledged there is a problem.
This happens to me too. Using Villainrom 2.1. Same problem when I was using Litening 3.0.
USB tethering is ok, but WiFi keeps disconnecting. Didn't have this problem with my old Galaxy S.
Also, do anyone else notice that when USB tethering, charging doesn't work very well.
Samsung and Voda have acknowledged that this is now a known issue and they are working on a fix however there is no ETA at the moment.
This problem seem to have gone away after I flashed to KG3. Will continue to monitor if it still happens.

Hey that sounds great. Could you let me know in a couple of days how it all goes.
Just one other thing, through testing found that the first time it connected it worked perfectly but reboot the phone (and in this case several laptops) and the problem started.
Thanks again for the feedback.
Been using WiFi hotspot on KG3 past couple of days for many hours at a stretch (need to keep charger plugged in, of course). Running beautifully. No disconnects or hangs. Sometimes with 2 or 3 devices connected to it.
Same to me!
I have 2.3.4 KG2 with CF-Root and have no stability issues on Wifi hotspot tethering.

But does this transmit in infrastructure, like for ps3 to recognize?

When I tried it I could only get Ad-hoc connections. My ROM on my Transformer didn't support Ad-hoc so I couldn't complete my test.
yes it doesnt work yet it only does ad/hoc and isnt good
All of the wireless tether for root users are ad-hoc. Only the built in tether from Froyo and later are infrastructure.

That's incorrect. Both my gf and a friend are on an Evo 4G with wireless tether for root, on Sense, and have infrastructure wireless tethering.
Well I apologize. If you are still stuck with an original Evo 4g then it supports it... http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/0...otspot-infrastructure-capabilities-on-evo-4g/

Not Really, unless Jun 10, 2010 (Over a year ago is recent) From what I understand it it the Moto Drivers that they can't seem to figure out infastructure mode. Tonight my buddy and I have a plan to see if we can get infastructure mode to work. If it does I post the trick.
Well My first Idea didn't work, But has anyone looked at porting this method over to the Photon, Looks like if you had the right tools u should be able to update the directories to work with the Photon. I might be wrong, sometime I wish i had more time to dig in and teach my self more advanced Android programing.

My bad, thought it said 2011. I'm glad I'm not the only smartass in the Photon forum. Just get defensive sometimes ..

No access control either
This version also reports that the Photon kernel doesn't have what's necessary for access control, so that will have to wait until custom kernels flow in from the geniuses (of which I am not one!).
I also have been unable to connect when any kind of WiFi encryption is selected; only way I can connect with my Mac (which is the only way I can test) is to disable encryption.
Our power went out, so along with no router, there was no cable. I knew from this thread that the newest Wifi Tether wouldn't work but I downloaded it and tried it anyway. No joy.
Next up, I grabbed Barnacle Tether. It's got only WEP encryption but I was up and running and was able to stream an entire move from Amazon's video streaming without a hitch. So, that works! Give it a shot...

I had no luck with Barnacle - any settings that need to be tweaked to make it work? WEP is better than nothing!

I streamed Limitless to my Dell XPS m1330. My wife and I had forgotten we were even doing it - there was absolutely no stutter and no re-buffering. When the movie was over I remembered and was really impressed.
I don't know much about the settings, ad-hoc vs infrastucture, etc. All I know is that the wifi tether did not work for me. As others said it looks like it is transmitting but I can never find the SSID. Barnacle fired up and worked right away - no tweaks needed on my laptop.
edit: We just knew with no house internet access and no cable we could and wanted to watch a movie with my phone. I was originally going to buy it on the Android market and connect the HDMI from the phone to the TV but I don't have the mini-HDMI cable. Also, my TV is older so no DLNA. Only other option was the use the hotspot so my laptop could access the web and stream. BTW, when I accidentally clicked on the wrong window (I had the Android Marketplace Movies window open, also) it said that the movie streaming from Youtube was not set up or allowed for my country. That was wierd - the only thing I could think of was some IP address thing due to my using the wireless tether from Barnacle.

I don't think so. I just changed the stock SSID (to "MoPho", lol) and set up a WEP password of my own, 5 characters. Clicked START and it was up and running.

[Q] No progress to connect Adhoc netwrok for S3?

HELLO PLZ HELP ME OUT..
After 3 days of research over internet i finally can tell that i have successfully rooted my SAMSUNG S 3(i9300) ver (4.1.1) but still i am not able to find any strong development on ADHOC enabler of galaxy s3.
I am not able to connect My rooted Samsung Galaxy S3 jelly bean with WiFi shared via Adhoc method from my laptop (Vista Sp-2) or can say that with Ad-hoc network. I tried to root my newly purchased S3 and installed WIFI adhoc enabler and also replaced the wpa_supplicant, But still adhoc network are not working.
I followed this method but no success on Samsung Galaxy (i-93000 V 4.1 Jelly bean )
Please help me out its very urgent as i am not having Wifi connection I am using USB 3g Internet
No solution that I know of...
There are some work arounds posted for WiFi tethering, but I have not seen a solution that provides ad-hoc wifi support for Galaxy S III or Nexus 7. Since these devices have been around for some time now, this is either not a important problem (perhaps work arounds make it less of a problem) or a very hard problem, or even worse... both.
I would like to connect to the Brookstone Rover 2.0 for example, but cannot unless I can solve the ad-hoc WiFi issue. The workarounds are not of any help so far.
I have not jumped into a deep technical review of the issue so I cannot comment. I was hoping someone already had this worked out or was working on it. If not then I will start looking more closely at the problem.
Still no response
Plz help me out still i am not lucky enough

Sorry for reviving a very old thread but I too have a s3 (i747m with JB 4.1.1 stock rooted) that I've tried getting adhoc working. I've also tried everything the OP mentioned with no luck. I have a laptop (running WinXP) in my company truck that's has a 24/7 cell data connection. With my iphone5 I can connect using adhoc no problem but the s3 will not even detect the ssid. I've been reading for the last 3 days and haven't found a solution to this. I'm hoping someone has finally released some sort of patch. Failing that I'm due for a computer upgrade soon so hopefully I'll get win7
