The same issue ( running SentinelRom on SGI9305 )
Did you fix Permissions?
I believe it needs to be.....
RW- R-- R--
Or
XX□
X□□

In the app permissions chart in any root level explorer....
And then reboot.....

[MOD][9/14/11][FIXED] GB Touchwiz (Stock/PW) Camera v1.0: Power Button->Shutter Key
EDIT (9/14): I've had the wrong link posted for days, but it's now corrected. Sorry about that! If you had trouble with force closes, please re-download and replace the file. (I had the froyo version posted instead of the gingerbread version, doh!)
Current Functionality over stock Camera.apk:
Settings menu option to enable/disable GPS tagging for pictures (ported from EH09)
Power Button in Camera mode becomes functionally the same as the touchscreen Shutter Key
GB Touchwiz Camera Mod v1.0 - APK version
Camera.apk - Download @ MediaFire.com
Installation: Since this is a system app, it cannot be installed using the Package Installer. Camera.apk must replace /system/app/Camera.apk. You can accomplish this many different ways. Two common methods are: 1) use ADB to push it ("adb push Camera.apk /system/app/Camera.apk"); or 2) copy Camera.apk to your SD card, then use a program like Root Explorer to move it to "/system/app/". If you are running a Stock GB rom, you will want to delete any camera.odex files in /system/app/, clear dalvik cache and reboot. For most deodexed roms, a reboot is only necessary if the camera is not working correctly after installation. For more information, feel free to read through the Froyo camera mod thread.

I have tested this on my phone with PWGB Version 2.0 (Beta 3). Please use at your own risk, and please post any successes, failures, bugs, feature request, etc. Also, please post what ROM you are using.
The more feedback I receive, the more likely I will continue this project with new features, CWM files, updated camera files, etc.
Also, since I'm currently broke and looking for a job, donations might tempt me into spending more time around here . Let me know if there is anything that needs hackin'!

I'm sure it would be. Of course, they actually have the source code for MIUI, so they wouldn't need to do byte-code hacking in order to accomplish it.
I would try the MIUI.us forums. Maybe someone would be able to point you in the right direction. Maybe it's already been done...

Copied over the top of my camera.apk file using root explorer. Rebooted and wiped Davlik. Now shortcut is missing so I tried to readd it and it is missing from the app list. My dumbass didn't rename the camera.apk file before copying the new one so I cannot restore original. Any quick suggestions?

CM 7.1 7/17 I can pull the camera.apk from the rom, just being lazy and hoping there is an easy fix.

Haha, nope, that's the easiest fix.
This camera relies on the touchwiz libraries which are only found on Samsung based roms. It won't work on CM7/MIUI/ASOP roms.
Haha I figured. Me dumbass.
I swore my camera had the button feature, but it was not working lastnight. Guess I will restore the file from my rom.

Actually, that's interesting. Powerwash v1.2 was Froyo based. I never considered that the app might be compatible with Gingerbread and Froyo roms.
I guess I didn't need to open a new thread... hmm. Well, maybe I'll do some rearranging sometime soon.
EDIT (9/14): No wonder it worked, I had the froyo version linked! Whoops!
Im running PWGB v2.0 b3 and i just installed this and everytime i go to take a pic either with power button or on screen the flash just goes off then i get a force close message:
The application Camera (process com.sec.android.app.camera) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again
Any ideas?
If not could someone please post the stock camera apk so i dont have to redo all over again.
Thanks
Interesting... that's the rom I used when developing this hack.
How did you install the camera.apk?
The stock camera can be pulled out of the powerwash rom. Or I can upload it later when I'm at the computer.

OK, I look into it in the next couple days. I am working on an old computer so I doubt I'll be building it from source, but I might be able to work up a quick hack.

Thanks for the quick reply!
I installed by placing on SD Card and then using Root Explorer to replace in system/app
I tried to extract the camera apk but the file is a .tar odin file and i couldnt find an "app" folder anywhere in it.
I tried the camera.apk from ComRom GB and it works half the time.
One thing i did do after flashing PWGB Rom was run the permissions.zip from the op because i was having problems with Google Maps..wonder if that has anything to do with it....

I agree and have been looking for the mail.apk that comes with JB, im assuming you replace the original crappy Sammy one with the apk using a root explorer type app.
The black and white of the Samsung app is just not readable in my opinion; the stock JB is great
yes you can change it through root explorer or es explorer, you can find the apk of the email for ics or jb, then you have to replace also the exchange.apk as if it supports the stock android apps. make sure you fix the permissions too. I'm using stock as I hate the sammy mail
Ok i've uploaded them for you,
Make sure to backup the exchange.apk and mail.apk
use a root file explorer,
/system/app/
Place them their and make sure you fix the permissions.
thanks. are they ICS or JB?
I zipped the original ones with root explorer then deleted and pasted the new ones. but before I could set permissions my phone froze completely and I cannot do anything more now.
any advice?
They are ICS, but they are almost exactly the same as the JB,
you need to replace them after backing up, make sure that you set the permissions the same as every other apk in the system/app/ folder, after you finish everything restart your phone and it should work perfectly, if anything doesnt work perfectly, then go to recovery and go to fix permissions, it should sort everything out.

Hi, all!
I need expert help and advice in trying to get a certain GalleryGoogle.apk (Gallery + Camera + Video Camera app) working on my phone.
This GalleryGoogle.apk was included inside a package called "4.2 Google Apps" I found here on XDA.
Its a cwm-flashable .zip that includes GalleryGoogle.apk along with DeskClockGoogle.apk (Clock), GmsCore.apk (Google Services) and also LatinImeGoogle.apk (Android Keyboard with gesture typing).
All those apps I tested to be working on my phone, except the GalleryGoogle.apk. The Camera, Panorama and Gallery itself work but whenever I go to the video camera, as soon as I press record, it catches a frame, then force closes, recording a clip that's barely a second in duration.
The reason why I'd like to replace my phone's stock Gallery.apk is because I'm creating a ROM and I'd like to give the camera the PIE-like UI. Now I'm not quite familiar in compiling/decompiling apks so I thought I should ask for all of your help.
Also, I'm not sure if it would be any help, but the cwm-flashable package also included a folder named "lib" which includes the following files:
libjni_latinimegoogle.so (I think this is for the keyboard. The rest, I don't know what they're for)
libjni_filtershow_filters.so
libjni_mosaic.so
liblightcycle.so
I've put a MediaFire link for a .zip file that contains the following files:
Phone's Stock Gallery.apk (Odexed)
Phone's Stock Gallery.apk (Deodexed)
GalleryGoogle.apk from the 4.2 Google Apps.zip
4.2 Google Apps.zip that contains the lib.so files
I hope you guys can help me out with this one!
I'd also try and see if I can grab a logcat for the force close I was getting whenever I try to record a video.
just bumping this up... :/
Did you push all the apps into system/app and give them proper permissions? And the lib files are necessary for the app to work. So place it inside system/lib and give them the correct permissions too

What build of jb are you trying to put the 4.2 camera on? I'm currently trying different gallery apk from 4.2 on my 4.1.2 ROM. I tried many gallery apk files and found one or two weren't compatible and forced closed on me.
Have you tried using a different gallery apk from another 4.2 ROM? And did you wipe data and cache before removing the old gallery? Have you tried wiping the cache, dalvik and fix permissions from CWM after putting the files in your system?
This is the gallery apk I'm using http://db.tt/wfjAV9j1 pulled from slim bean 4.2
I currently trying to figure out how to get the night mode under ISO setting working on 4.1.2

It's 4.1.2 jellybean. Wiped data and cache always and also fix permissions each and everytime. I tried the apk you attached, unfortunately it did not work for me as well. Camera and Panorama works flawlessly. Video Camera is the only thing not working. What's interesting is only the rear camera doesn't work on video recording, but the front camera works.

I was trying to disable the shutter and focus sound settings of my camera when I messed it up.
Device: Samsung galaxy s2
Android Version: 4.1.2
Kernel Version: 3.0.31-Jeboo_Kernel_v1.2a+..........
Service provider: Optus Australia
Okay! I hope that the above detail is sufficient now let me tell you what I did wrong.
I was successful in getting rid of the shutter sound and I was reading around to find a solution for disabling the focus sound too. Followed this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2058850) to disable the camera focus sound and probably I have lost my camera.
1. I first copied the SamsungCamera.apk file to a my internal SD card folder (Using ES Fileexplorer).
2. I unzipped the newly copied folder using the same ES fileexplorer.
3. Entered the folder name raw and deleted the focus.ogg sound files.
4. Zipped it back together using the ES fileexplorer and named it as SamsungCamera.apk
5. Again back to system\app and deleted the factory SamsungCamera.apk file
6. Copied the edited SamsungCamera.apk to the system\app folder.
7. Tried to install the app -Unsuccesful
8. Camera is not working anymore:crying:
Please help!

That's easy -- just restore the original SamsungCamera.apk file, which you backed up before making any changes to it. You did back it up, right?

Yeah, I was expecting that... Here is the file I saved at some point from the stock 4.1.2:

When you copy it to the /system/app folder (rename it to SamsungCamera.apk), make sure you set the right permissions (-rw-r--r--), and don't try installing it -- just reboot the phone.

Hi, do you think you could please help me.I am having a bit of trouble installing this mod. I saved the zip to my sd, then i put my phone in recovery mode. Then i pressed "apply update from external storage" and chose the zip. This dosn't install it i just get an error. What am i doing wrong?
Edit: Don't worry i figured out what I did wrong i didn't have cwm recovery installed
Will this work for SII LTE SGH-I727R also?
I've been without a camera on my Rogers Samsung Galaxy SII LTE SGH-I727R for months now. It was working fine for a long time and one day just stopped working. I never dropped it and I always had it in a protective shell. Whenever I start the Camera app (or any app that uses the 8mp back camera) it just hangs up and then gives me a 'Unfortunately, Camera has stopped' error and crashes. The front camera still works in applications like Skype. Device is running Android 4.1.2
So far I've tried:
* 'Clear data' and 'Force stop' the Camera (v1.5) app in Applications. The cache is always 0.00 so I can't clear it.
* Software factory reset (several times, sometimes entering setup data, other times leaving it blank, sometimes connecting to wifi and trying to get an update etc)
* Recovery mode and Hardware factory reset
All produce the same error so I was wondering if I should try this camera rom? Will it work for the SGH-I727R?
Was also thinking about flashing it with Cyanogenmod 10.2, mostly to play with CM but also to see if that for some reason fixes it.

I don't get what you mean by almost normal.
What I mean is that it didn't work flawlessly, it froze from time to time, but most of the time it worked good.
I'm trying to figure out how to change the default camera app that opens, from stock camera to Google Camera when entering from the stock lockscreen. I am on @muniz_ri's stock Lollipop ROM (non-MDK version).
On Kit Kat, a default app-picker dialogue box would appear and I could choose which camera app I wanted to default to. Apparently, Samsung decided it would be better to force feed us their camera app.
I tried: Opening Contacts> add contact picture> take picture> choosing stock camera, then: Task Manager> clear defaults> clear camera from list...to no avail.
Anyone know of a way to achieve this?
If you want to, you could try this.
Backup first.
Try renaming the Samsung camera apk to.bak , then rename the Google camera to the original Samsung apk name, reboot, and give it a try.
If things blow up, revert renaming, or restore backup if necessary.

I thought about doing that. But I haven't flashed the deodexed version, and the stock camera is odexed, while Google Camera isn't. I'm afraid that might present a bit of an issue. And also, Touchwiz's camera has deep ties into the kernel.
