Which rom gives the best battery life - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Which rom gives the best battery life currently i am on stock 2.3.4 its battery life is wore charge drop from 100% to 60-50% in just few minutes and i would also like to know that why my internal memory was showing only 1.97gb total space when i unlocked the boootloader and installed CM7 ICS.
Now I have flashed the Stock sbf with rsd so i will have re unlock the bootloader which unlocking method i should follow bcoz the last the time i unlocked the phone i was facing some problem like
1 .No boot screen only text screen which was showing os will start in 5 sec and with other options.
2 .The model number changed from ME860 to MB860.
3. Total internal memory in CM ICS was showing only 1.97gb.

with normal use (texting, phone, small amount of games) in CM7 I get about a day. no mods, just the radio in the OP. With alien normal use I get around a 30-36 hours. Heavy use drops down to about 10 hours or so CM7 and 12-15 alien. the 1.97 is normal on CM7. not sure about the rest

my battery life on CM7 (both nightly 20 and ba2tf) is the best ever.
I have tried all of the roms and they all have descent battery life, but the stable CM7 is the best one for me. compared to other blur roms, it's by far the best. I can have my cellphone with 80% + battery life at the end of the day with minimal usage. With some moderate usage (texting and browsing mainly) I sometimes have around 50% charge at the end of the day. even while giving my phone a LOT of usage, I have never had battery problems while running those roms.
sometimes I don't even charge my phone if I only had some minimal usage through the day.

I agree: cm7 is the best. I have the last weekly from CM7 and have a battery live of 72h with minimal or 48h with normal usage.

Interesting... For awhile the wife was running CM7 at stock speeds and i was running DarkSide at 1500MHz. Even with a 50% overclock I consistently had better battery life compared to her, both using our phones about equally as often. When I get the time I'll be doing a more thorough evaluation between our phones with proper battery calibration, etc.

[Q] Whats the best ROM for battery life?

Just wondering because right now I'm using GSB v2.6 and I'm getting max 6 hours of battery life through normal use like checking email, sms, casual browsing, and listening to music.

Have you tried re-calibrating your battery? Made a huge difference for me; it's good to do especially with a lot of ROM flashing, but even with just one it can throw your battery calculations off.
FYI follow the instructions to the letter, otherwise you might as well not do it at all IMHO.
I had the same issue using GSB 2.X. Switched to OMGB 1.1.1 and i now get 15 hours with moderate usage and no tweaks.

I've gotten over 30 hours before with GSB, immediately after a recalibration.
Your best bet for battery life is setcpu settings. As long as you're using froyo and gingerbread you'll get a boost.
I suggest Tazz as his ROM's have always worked for me. My setcpu sleep profile is:
min 19mhz
max: 480mhz
governer: smartass
and in advanced settings I have:
polling interval: default
Whatever the next one is: 98
Ignore smart or hwatever the third one is: 1
bias: 4
edit: With this I can get a good day or two of moderate use.
I found on GSB that that 19mhz is too low and the phone does not always wake from sleep. I followed workshed's suggestion of min 480 mhz with max 710 using CM7's CPU settings and all worked very well...that is until 2.0 when battery life went to hell. I recalibrated but i think the problem was my exchange mail app.
Oh, and with smartass you shouldn't have to set sleep profiles. Supposedly it's "smart" enough to figure that out
You can also try collins battery tweak, I use it on tazz gingerbread and it works awesome my phone used to die pretty fast before I tried it and now that I put it back on my phone I am very glad I did.
Im running GSB 2.8 but for me, all seems to be going well.
In one day, off a single charge, I've gone 12-14 hours at a time!
Make sure you always charge correctly, and don't abuse the phone's battery all the time!
Been trying out various ROMs and lately, I've settled on FroShedYo's Final V11 with CM6.1 as my everyday workhorse, stability over speed, and with a bit of battery calibration - getting an average of easily 20 to 30 hours off a full charge on OEM 1500 maH battery originally for the HTC Ozone (so it's about 15% higher capacity than stock's 1300 maH, which I keep as a spare/backup.)
With a bit of tweaking on CPU clocking (Ondemand), turning off vibrate & alert sounds/LED's, and email checks every 60 minutes (1 account only + Gmail pushed) and minimal widgets open, etc. - I can leave the house at the beginning of a long day, go about daily business, voice calls, check email checks, quick news & weather update, etc. and still have 25% to 50% battery life after an extended 12 to 15 hours day on the move, depending on how the device is used. I get a poor 3G signal at the house flipping to 1X often & back, and wifi OFF on the road (BlueTooth ON for driving but no Maps/NAV (ON at home.) In short, plenty of variables on how the battery is getting drained - in standby mode, clock speed is lowered so I could still be over 90 to 95% battery after 2 years but it will slide downward with active usage. After wiping/flashing & reinstalling all the APPS & fine-tuning the settings, I do a NAND backup and then do the battery calibration - and after 1 full cycle, I've been consistently getting these standby & usage time - which I can live with (C2C flashed and extra goodies on a 16GB SD card.) Yesterday, it was showing over 50% after 15 hours of light/moderate usage.
I've tried the latest nearly finalized GSB/GB Roms & variants, they are faster & fancier, but FC's, GPS issues & other minor bugs plus "not as good" battery life had pushed it back to 2.2 OS on the Eris. OMGB 1.1.1.1 and the Condemned CM7 just out this week are pretty cool - but battery life really slide quickly - unlikely to see more than 10 to 15 hours of usage out of a standard/non-extended battery.
The other one that I like is the Nonsensikal 2.2.1 ROM, troublefree, stable & reliable - the edge on battery yielding to FroShedYo's version ( keep that on another 8GB card along with the newest GB releases for "playing")
Otherwise, the xtrSENSES 5.x and xtrROM 5.x are fine as well for everyday use - performance & battery life-wise over the latest stock 2.1 ROM.
Those are my two cents for what it's worth, great work being done here and it's giving new life to the Eris, not quite EOL for some of us - played with the TB in the store, nice big screen & fast, but I'm not about to wear a "brick" phone going out on the job with an extended/bulky battery just for bragging about 4G/LTE. Mobile devices have come a long way, I still got my original analog MicroTac XLT with a 2200 maH tipping the scale at 10 oz in my bottom storage drawer.
On the sideline for a "polished" GB/GSB ROM with the bugs resolved and better battery life, and I'm off to flashing it on my spare SD to test it out. for the "adoption" usage.

[Q] Best radio+rom+kernel for increasing battery life?

Hi everyone, this is my first ever post on the forums so don't be too harsh on me lol anyways, my question is what is the best ROM + radio + kernel combination to get the longest battery life out of my stock thunderbolt battery? Currently I am running DasBAMF 2.0-5 the MR2.5 radio and the dream kernel. I haven't really noticed a huge improvement in my battery life since I flashed this rom a few days ago. I have seen people who claim to be getting 10-15 hrs on one charge. I don't think I need that much because I charge overnight every night, but it would be nice to know how people do that. also, what are your thoughts on juice defender? thanks!
I am currently using CM7 R1.2 w/ the MR2 radio and I get very good battery life. 10 hrs plus with minimal use on the regular battery.
I've been running Gingeritis 1.0 with JuiceDefender Ultimate and I've been getting anywhere from 16-20 hours on the standard battery with regular use (facebook, email, words with friends, browsing, etc.). What I find most helpful with this rom is the brightness slider in the dropdown quick settings. Unless you're outside on a bright day or it's absolutely necessary, keep the brightness as low as you can comfortably use. I've found this to be huggee in the ongoing battle to get better battery life.
And if you can tolerate life without 4G, use an LTE toggle app to keep your phone on 3G. This also helps a lot.
i like the Inj3ctTh3ory rom so far.
It looks to me that all MR2 radios use more battery. The best battery performance for me was on BAMF 1.7 and MR1 radio. I would use 2 to 3% battery on standby overnight, with the phone on 3G. I am on BAMF 1.8.6 now with the OTA radio and the overnight battery usage is up to 10%. I will keep testing, but I think stripped MR1 ROMs have the best battery performance.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
BAMF 3.0 RC4, imo 3.4.0, OTA MR2 Radio... constant 40-45 hours on the extended battery.
How I maximized my battery
In terms of my battery I just wanted decent battery life without using a tone of extra apps to do it. I'm using the CM7 RC 1.2 with the MR2 Radio getting about 20+ hours of battery with standard use. I am not using Juice defender or any battery saver apps. I am just using Tasker to turn on and off my Wi-Fi when I'm not at home, because I hate doing manually
One thing I did do to maximize my battery life is after I flashed my new ROM I did the following after searching multiple forums for battery optimization methods
1. Charged my Battery to 100%
2. Did a Bump Charge Cycle 4 times, and then turned on phone
3. This step is probably key. Downloaded the Battery Calibration App. You can find the app in the Android Market.
4. Plugged in the charger until the Battery Calibration App read 100% and 4200+ mV. I found that even after bump charging my BW battery widget would say 100% and the led would be green. However when I go into the Battery Calibration App it would say 99% and the mV would be about 4160. I just plugged it in and waited about 30 - 45 minutes and it would finally be fully charged at 100% ~4200 mV.
5. Press the Battery Calibration button in the App to clear the batterstats.bin and unplug the phone. Do not shutdown or reboot.
6. Let battery drain completely without plugging it in (USB and AC)
7. After it completely dies Charged battery straight until 100% with no interruptions.
I'm getting good battery life without having to use juice defender or anything, and that's also with streaming bluetooth music everyday driving to and from work for a total of 1 hour. I also keep the radio at 3G the entire day unless I really need high speed data. And unless I'm in the car, Bluetooth is turned off. I'm pretty sure these steps should work on any rooted phone regardless of ROM.
I tried many different rom and kernel across the forum... I dun see any differences in term of battery life, just go with the one you love.........weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
My bolt gets better life running Ziggy's kernels for some reason. Not sure why, but it does. I've tried every sense ROM out there. +1 on the post above. Go with what works best for you and the way you use your phone.
courtesy of my rooted bolt
I've found cm7 (cm7 kernel) to have the best battery life for me, getting up to 28 hours with light use and no 4g. I find the auto-brightness on cm7 to work much better than on any other ROM I've tried, and for some reason all other ROMs drained the battery around 50x faster while idling. I can leave my phone unplugged overnight and expect to lose maybe 2-3%.
There certainly is no universal solution though. That is the only certainty
Whatever rom/s you test with...make sure you try various kernel versions (lean kernels mostly) to find what works the best.
I've tried them all,
GINGERTH3ORY V5.0 DreamKernel is my favorite one. it's super fast and very responsive.
Battery life is best on this one .
I use speedtweak batt saver ondemandx.
I'm on Bamf 1.8.6 remix right now with the OTA MR2 radio and getting about 14 hours on 3g all day and 8.5 hours if on 4g all day. Still looking for something better.
I have had a lot of luck with Inj3ctTh3ory. I have only had it now for two days but I'm already impressed with how long the battery has lasted. I have not experimented with any Kernel/CPU combo's yet but it's performing so well now I might not mess with it.
ROM and kernel linked in my sig. I'm using the 1.4GHz extreme UV with interactivex speedtweak, I love it. Bulletproof stability and with mild/moderate use I can make it through a 9hr work day with 50% left on the stock battery. 4G left on, everything syncs every hour. I don't get 4G coverage at work, I don't know if that helps or hurts, but I do leave it on.

[Q] whats the best battery effective kernel?

this is the only reason i hate CM7. it drains battery like hell. yes, im already using "conservative" cpu governor and have JuiceDefender installed.
when i was on the stock LG rom, battery life used to be about 3-3.5 days on normal usage. after flashing with CM7 (the latest stable version), i need to charge it every night. if i do a lot of net surfing, battery will last for only 15 hrs.
is there some other gingerbread rom with which i can get back the normal battery life?
ive never tried this rom but ive read that rjtchn's cm7 has good battery life. the last time i checked his rom isnt on xda but u can google his rom

First, you can go back to Froyo by flashing the stock ROM through KDZ. But all your data would be wiped out. Take backups.
And regarding battery backup, I think 25 hours of battery backup on moderate-heavy usage is fine. I'm not sure whether we can get 3 days on froyo with the same usage. I didnt use froyo much as I immediately rooted my phone and flashed CM7 based ROMs.
On Andy's ROM with Andy's kernel, I can get 25 to 30 hours with heavy usage, with 6 hours of sleeping period in between. So it is 20-24 hrs of almost constant heavy usage.
void. #forever
I'm using void. #forever with Franco's v18 BFS kernel.
I had 2 days & 20 hours with moderate calls, SMS & browsing. I think I could have reached 3 days until an exercise app surprisingly kept my phone awake & drained the remaining battery.
Using GB 2.3.3 - at the moment for testing purposes GingerCriccoROM 1.2 and latest Franco GB kernel. 3G data always on, sync on, (fb, twitter, gmail, email etc. autom. check every 30min.) Calls, sms, browsing, pretty heavy use and i got after first full charge and battery stats wipe 1d 14h - still 6% left. OC 480/729 smoothass. Still testing - at the moment i have 30% battery left after 1d and 7h.
i run void #forever and franco kernel
it usually last about 2 days on average (48+hr), i dont use the phone functions that much, mostly just browsing the news and sometimes GPS when i get lost out there, but i keep wifi/background/sync always on since i rely on gmail/gtalk/gvoice heavily
horrible battery life
flashed rjtchn's cm7 just now. And havent even restored backups yet. And as I surf on xda now on my wifi, battery is decreasing by 1% every 2 mins in front of my eyes.... it was 100% at 5.35pm and its 89 at 6.04pm now..... WTH is happening? Also to mention, I had bought my phone only a month ago with incredible battery till I started flashing Roms...
I'm using. Rover theme. Does that have. Anything to do with battery?
I had wiped battery Stat when my phone was in 100%, then I flashed the rom, rebooted, and then connected to USB mass storage for 20 mins to do transfers. ( it got charged again). Anything wrong in this process?

I am wrestling with battery life. Not being able to run 24hrs on one charge seems silly to me.
To use some round numbers, from best to worst given my standard usage patterns: {0}
48 hrs (2% per hr drain) -- stock LG 2.2 ROM rooted, crapware removed, SetCPU onDemand 122-600. Consistently runs 48hrs on a full charge.
24 hrs (4% per hr drain) -- stock ROM as it came out of the box.
18 hrs (5-6% per hr) -- CM7 RC1 unchanged. It seems closer to 5% per hour when I set onDemand in CM perf settings to 122-600 and tore out the launcher (using the delightful Zeam instead)
I can go to sleep with my OptT on the bedstand and wake up 8 hrs later and it's dropped from 100% to 60%.
I did do a brief test of Void forever and like the cleanliness of it. But development appears to be ended so no hope of BT working well or battery optimization. If I had an extra T500/509 I'd send it to the dev so he could continue testing. I did run it for a few hours but after I tested BT I didn't have the heart to go install all my crap on it for extensive testing. {EDIT: going to try it out today and see if I can hit 48hrs with it}
I am a big CM fanboi so I would love to hang in there with Mik until BT and battery are better. I mentioned battery drain in a (pre-CM7RC1) thread once and it was not well received, so I haven't mentioned it again until this thread.
If BT and battery don't eventually get improved (and I assume they will) I'll stick with the stock, rooted ROM.

Same here! Just remember to change the governer to sth like on-demand or conservative!
Well... reading you guys talking about 2-3 days of battery life makes me think that I'm either doing something wrong, or my battery is a bit damaged, 'cause the only way I could think my Optimus One would last for 2-3 days would be with no use at all.
I got this phone from a friend who had owned for only 2 months and the phone was already rooted and with a custom ROM already installed (Light 2.2.2 which is fairly close to stock). With that ROM the battery would last for a day max.
Shortly after I started installing other custom ROMs and testing them:
- Devoid Froyo Final: The most responsive ROM I've tried, but I had horrible battery life with it, with only around 18 hours of bat with moderate use and 3G on.
- OpenOptimus: Seems a bit laggy to me, and battery life was not even better than Devoid's
- LOL 1.4.2: I finally settled with this one. The ROM is pretty responsive (although not as snappy as Devoid) and at least with this one I can have a full day of battery life (sometimes a bit more).
I must say that I always keep an eye on apps running in the background and stop those I know I don't need always running. I also use Titanium Backup to "Freeze" apps that I know I won't use on a daily basis (like Google Maps and Navitel GPS).
The other thing I'd like to mention is that I keep GPS off (unless I specifically need it), but I always have data ON, either via Wifi when I'm at home, or 3G when I'm out of home. My Wifi Sleep Setting is set to "Never".
The only two apps that I know are working regularly on my phone are:
K9 Mail: Receiving mails for 5 Gmail accounts (all configured as PUSH so that shouldn't drain much battery)
Whatsapp: Receiving messages from friends and family, but that app is also PUSH so battery drain should be minimal also.
Overnight drain with Wifi On is about 5%
What do you guys think?
BTW... probably during this week I'll flash one of the 2.3.3 based ROMS (GingerLOL). I hope that being a "LOL" Rom it would be as stable as my current one.
Not a long test, but I did put all my apps back onto void #forever for an apples to apples test.
Set it on my nightstand and we both slept for 6 hrs. 100% down to 66% in 6hrs, for a drain rate of 5.7% per hour. Gack.
I suspect the real killer is the broken CM7 bluetooth stack in our devices at the moment, but since I use my phone gets used as a wireless mp3 player most of the time I really need it. When CM7 for OptT gets a fix for BT I think It will be nearly perfect for my needs.

Void #forever is truly the best rom I have ever tried.... The best thing on it is that its "void" and u can choose which stock aps to install. Thnx a lot guys for recommending me this rom.
Rjtchn's rom had better performance. Quadrant score was 1005 without overclocking(i don't remember the exact). Void's score is 840. But it has incredible battery.
Its the first rom I have ever seen with cell standby having the max bat. usage on 2g network. (all others had android system). That means just by putting on flight mode, things would go even better

I was researching another issue and so set my phone (as described below) down for 20hrs 23mins and it is now at 84% battery. 23.3hrs / 16% battery usage = ~0.75% per hour.
Compare that with 5-6% an hour I was getting with CM7 on the bedstand. I suggest that CM7RC1 is , despite it's general wonderfulness, not providing 6x the performance for 6x the battery drain.
I am a CM faboi and have done the "buy Cyanogen a beer" thing on his site. I eagerly await CM7 going gold for our devices, and I hope the battery/performance balance is on parity.

Best rom in terms of battery life?

What the title says.

all roms are gonna be similar in terms of battery life. Battery life really depends on what measures you take to reduce idle usage.
-download "green power / premium" and set it to turn off data while the screen is off
-keep wi-fi, btooth and gps off when you're not using them
-use "setcpu" and create a profile for when the screen is off, limiting processor load
-download "battery calibration" and charge phone to 100%. Use the app.
I do all these things (I use battery calibration after flashing every new rom / kernel/ ect) and on CM7 with a 1.3ghz OC, I got 18 hours of battery life with high usage. I've only used 5% of my battery in 4 hours with little use (mostly idle)
I've tried pretty much every ROM. The one I got the best battery life out of was pi crust 0.7. I'm currently on Aura 1.1.3.8 bloat with the stock att kernel and battery life isn't horrible, but nowhere near as good as pi crust.

+1 on πcrust 0.7 I can can 30hours + on a single charge with moderate use. Over Clocked 1.1hghz and Under volted slightly.
Yeah, I used to be on Picrust and the battery life was really good. I got tired of the stock experience though so I installed Alien w/ theme. The ROM is really good, but the battery life is not consistent. Sometimes it's as good as PiCrust and other times it barely gets through the night.
if you do the things I told you to, the alien rom will get much better battery life. I used to be on alien 4 and got 30+ hours on a full charge
Ninja SpeedFreak gives me by far the best battery life over anything else. 40-50hours. Tried Alien, RedPill, Aura Debloat, Aura Accounts, PiCrust, Froyo stock, GB stock (Bell). Nothing but SpeedFreak will consistently get me more than 20 hours.

battery life

Simple question for all the experts...
If two different Roms are running the same Kernel, should the battery drain be that much different?
Im running REZRom currently and thinking about switching to Bamf 2.1. i'm sure both roms are smooth and fantastic I just want the one with the best battery life.
Any advice would be great, thanks in advance.
You should get good battery life on either. That is depending on your usage and setup of course.

Battery life with same kernel should not vary too much from ROM to ROM. Depends on how much "stuff" is running in bakground that might be using the battery up. The kernel makes the biggest difference since it controls the whole system. I am personally using Scotts CleanRom Developers Edition (Senseless) and it is great! I get a solid 13+ hours with moderate use (some calls, lots of web, and a few games) and thats on 4G for 11-12 hours of it! If you use wifi you probably could squeeze another hour or 2 out of the battery...
This is on clean rom dev edition. 2 hours screen on time so far with standard battery. I use 3g normally unless I need 4g. I also use juice defender ultimate and keep data off while not in use.

While there are a number of tweaks and apps you can use (like SetCPU) to improve battery life, it's true that the kernel has more to do with battery life than that ROM itself.
Sometimes a rogue app can prevent the cpu from idling or prevent the phone from entering deep sleep mode. This happens on mine occasionally, and you can usually tell from the extended battery graph because the phone will show as awake for large periods of time, even when the screen is off and it should be in sleep mode.
