My galaxy s2 has had battery issues the day i got it.I was getting around 6-7 hours then, thought it was some issue with firmware checked the battery usage and everything seemed fine expect for few times the android os seemed a little high , so i installed a custom rom , tried sensation and villianrom and a few others .Villianrom seemed to help battery a little but few days in and battery is again draining like fuel in a f1.So i decided its nothing about the firmware and all , maybe i have a bad phone or battery cause its draining like 1% every 2 -3 mins while browsing or doing anything as a matter of fact i get about 4-5 or at best 6.5 hours but thqts rare.I mostly use wi-fi so it definitely uses less battery than 3g . So now my question is ... As i have rooted my phone do i get
The warranty assets as my phone is like 4 months old.I know about unrooting but will that do the trick ?
And btw apart from battery issues , which seem like i have a unique case , my experience with the phone has been amazing this is definetely the best phone on market ;-)
Please respond....and also share your experiences with battery backup of s2 .....thankyou. cheers B-)
*i forgot to add that another thing that i have been noticing is the high battery usage by the display , it sometimes is as high as 80% even on low brightness to which i have found no cure...no matter what i try it lowers sometimes to about 30% or more and is back again to higher, this has furthered my doubt that i have a faulty piece. Pls comment.

I'd say 1% every 2-3 minutes sounds about right if you have screen fairly bright.
Did you do a back up before installing custom rom?
If so install original rom back, then I think you need a usb jig, which is available from ebay. This will reset your custom binary counter so the warranty peeps won't know you've flashed a custom rom at some time.
I'm quite new to this so hopefully someone else may reply and correct me if wrong.

Unroot and reset custom rom counter to zero with USB jig .

Its in the first instance user apps that need sorting read the battery faq posts .

Display uses the largest amount its relative all the figures say is that of the battery percentage used display has used xx amount . Could be battery used 5% of that 5% display used 50% as little else was used .

I've only tried 2 custom roms, miui and criskelorom, and I think using criskelorom combine with neak kernel is my best so far

Ok so im quite new to android so im not 100% on the ins and outs on how what uses what battery and when.
Im running skyrom v9 and my battery was crap. To be honest its never been good. So i tried speedmod kernel and still got the same results.
Now iv disabled lockscreen widget and seems my battery is much better so iv put it down to that been the killer.
Iv read some people are using this app with no issues. My friend tried it with the same rom and kernel as me and it was fine.
Question is are these phones like performance independent? Like will each device act and behave differently to different thing or shud one sgs2 be the same as another sgs2 that is set up the same?
Long winded but i got there
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
They're mass produced, they should be exactly the same. There may be really really slight performance differences. And tiny differences in screen quality. But this may depend on the batch.
What would be the case most likely would be the fact that you have a faulty battery. But it seems you were able to fix most of your problems by getting rid of an app.
There's a lot of things influencing battery life, dude! Every little thing you do and use can get the juice sucked dry in a couple of hours.
I thought as much. Just seemed odd. And although getting rid of that app seemed to work, its now gone back to its useual gonna die soon self. Gonna try another battery i think.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
In a way they are all different .
Different users with different apps and settings plus a different and varied level of user intelligence . That means phone A can be poor for user ZZ but give it to user YY and its working well .

Well only thing i have left to try is battery. Im just waiting for my other to charge then i will swap and test it. Best i have had my battery is loosing 10% an hour. Which imo is a bad crack.
When i go to my battery stats it says cirtain apps are using x%. Some of the apps iv never ran. And some like maps for example is using battery. I stop the maps app and still its using battery. Why?

A good test is to stick it in flight mode and shut down as many apps as you possibly can. Then just leave it in standby for a couple of hours. You should really only lose 1-2% of your battery. If you do then you know something on the phone is responsible and you can start looking for and freezing the suspects.
I've had mine in standby for about 9 hours now (since I unplugged it) and it's at 91%, after only a few texts and emails. That's with data on most of the time and a little wifi earlier. I'm on 2.3.5 and KH3.

The phone is the same, it really is all in the user settings and usage styles. If you want to prove this, just reflash any ROM and kernel (they are not that different) and do a full wipe of the phone. Don't set up a Google account or any email accounts or install any launchers/apps/widgets. Use a plain black background/lockscreen. Just use the phone, SMS and other stock apps for a while. You should be getting around 3 days or more of battery life with moderate usage.
I've gotten 3+ days of battery life before, but nowadays I get less than 1 day. So when I read that other people are getting great battery life, it's not because their phone is different than mine. It's because I need to use Exchange for my office email, or because I want to run a certain widget, or have some extra notifications, etc. So all you can do is keep experimenting, updating, etc. until you find a combination that works well for you.
Hello
I've been having some battery problems with my sgs2. I've bought it in june of 2011, it is my first smartphone and I was immediately pleased with it. great phone, everything working properly. since it was my first phone I was a light user and the battery could last me 2 days, sometimes it even got to last 3 days. However, at the beginning of the year I felt a sudden drop in battery performance, coming to last only 12-15 hours with light use. by this time I became more of a medium-heavy user and under "normal" use the phone would be dead at 10 hours, maximum.
I bought a new battery, official samsung 2000 mAh, and the performance became slightly better. It would at least last a day of work, but the performance was never as good as the original 1650 mAh battery when I first bought the phone.
by this time I began experimenting with ROMs, ressurection remix, miui, and now pfittech. but as time passes the performance is always dropping and today something strange happened. I locked my phone at 17% of battery, and after a while I checked it and the battery was at 18%. I checked again and is now at 19%. Right now it's 21%. What the hell?
can anyone help me? any help would be much appreciated.
p.s. i've tried calibrating the battery and I've read in the forums that on JB it's not necessary because the phone now clears battery stats when they reach 100%. I've also changed the stats with extweaks to absolutely no effect. I've been reading many topics on this but nothing quite seems to fit my situation.
mate u have to reset gauge in extweak then kill ur battery and pull off for 5 min then charge that should do

Hello all
I am using Mega 5.8 for 15 days now, everything is great. . Battery too is fine works for the whole day and some more but I find it strange that after reaching 20% the battery dies within minutes and phone shuts down. I thought that might be due to new battery but after 10+ recharge cycles this behavior have not changed.
Can anyone confirm that its a common thing with Mega 5.8 or there's some issue with my device.
Also while we are at it any idea when we might get 4.3 update for Mega?
Thankd

Thanks for the heads up gx3k , but just to clarify i am not new to rooting . Have galaxy S2 which is full blown modified .
I downloaded battery calib app and deleted stats like 10 times...tried to manually delete the stats bin folder....but nothing has worked . I feel the culprit is the rom .
Haven't rooted the phone but don't believe this to be a calibration issue.
May be its firmware but how to confirm unless we get an update.

Same problem with me
Just try this . One you are in middle of your discharge like around 50% just remove the battery for 20 secs and put it back . You will see in battery you have already lost 10-12% of battery . I think this is the case of either wrong battery reporting or bad batteries. Just have to wait for a custom rom to cross check this .
GalaxyMega 5.8 battery life
Same thing here. Already tried calibration. Didn't help.
Was charging it. Removed it from the charger at 60%, I removed the battery and put it back in. The battery % then showed 74%.

As for me when the level goes between 20-30% which is usually on the 3rd day I recharge the battery.

Whatever you do "DO NOT SHORT YOUR BATTERY TERMINALS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE" That's a fire hazard. Lithium Ion batteries can generate massive heat very quickly and have been known to explode on occasions.
Practise good battery management by charging your battery whenever possible and keep it on charge for as long as you can. This will condition it to give maximum performance.
Remember you can't get a battery to give any more power than it has from the charge you give it.
Calibration does nothing to the battery it only allows the software to monitor more accurately.
Lithium Ion batteries should never be allowed to discharge below a preset level as they will then die and will not charge again
lol im about to create a thread about this issue, i thought its only me who experienced this issue,, i've encounter this problem as well,, everytime the battery reach the 15% or the low battery warning, it drains very fast from 15 to 1% it just like about 2 minutes then my phone shuts off due to very low battery level
oh yea,, try the *#0228# it shows the real battery %. in my experience,, from 40% battery suddenly drop to 18%. btw for the calibration apps from the playstore, it just delete your batterystats.bin which have no benefit at all. anyone who encounter this problem please share your experience
I installed Battery Notifier and adjusted the low battery alarm at 25% . It is just a workaround but it serves the purpose.

Hardware or software I don't really know.
As I use the mega 5.8 as my daily phone I see to it that I dont go below 20%. And evry other day or a maximum of 3 days I always recharge my phone. Perhaps other users have a similar routine so very few if any, complain about the issue on this thread.

I have had my Galaxy S2 for almost 2 years now and I'm still going with the stock battery and it have worked great but some time around the start of Novmber I rooted and installed CM 10.1 and since then it feels like my battery life have become worse.
I now run CM 11, but it's still the same with battery life or even worse.
My phone never last a full day with normal usage. Today it went from 100% to 9% in less than 5 hours with only ~37 minutes of screen on time.
Todays usage: http://i.imgur.com/Adl7YQv.png http://i.imgur.com/G80vf2e.png http://i.imgur.com/YtcqKh7.png
Also, when listening to music on Spotify (offiline playlists) it draws battery like hell, it lasts maybe 3-4 maximum of listening. And when playing games with the charger connected it drains battery faster than it charges the battery.
What could be the problem here? Would really like to fix this problem but I do not want to go back to the stock Samsung software. Please ask questions if you have to (if you need some more information or such) and I'll reply as fast as possible.

So I installed BetterBatteryStats but as I restarted my phone the stats were reset and I can only view the stats for the current session, I will monitor it again sooner and remember to not restart the phone. However, when I restarted my phone it went from about 50% to 15% instantly, how did that happen? It has happened once before while running CM 10.1 also. Could it be that the phone just showed 50% but it really was 15%?
Picture of the battery drop is in the first post as I can't post links in replies (new user under 10 posts).
Also, how would be the best way to share my BetterBatteyStats? The included share feature just left me with an .txt that's a bit hard to read.
From the screenshots i can see your phone is always in search of signal.
Change the modem or pit it on gsm network for the time being
Further, the battery drop of restart is due to chip not behaving. Or battery is dying.
Change the battery is what i advise

It's rather the other way around. I had these drops tens of times. Most of the times, if I leave my phone in deep sleep, it will go up again. So in fact the 15% is 50%(minus a percentage for rebooting).
Look what other people are posting in that thread and read the op before posting. But I think a txt file is good enough.
First try to find an explanation for this battery drain, before buying a new one.

I'm not really sure about how I "Change the modem or pit it on gsm network for the time being", if you could explain that it would be sweet.
I have only used my phone very little today as I have been distracted with other things and I slept all day so battery have been ok. I will return with results another time when I have been using my phone as I usually do.

I have monitored my phone with BetterBatteryStats for a few days now and I have posted in their thread and some people there helped me to reduce battery use from 6.3%/h to 2.0%/h in idle (on 3g with fast dormancy disabled). I uninstalled some apps and disabled sync on some other.
I have a question about Spotify also, when I play music from Spotify it seems like it uses to much battery. I use watchdog and I get alerts sometimes that it uses 40%+ cpu, that doesn't seem right does it? And when I open CPU-Z it shows that cpu is at least 20%+ in use all the time with no other program running, that doesn't seem right either. Anyone have any ideas about this?
After uninstalling Google now my battery lasts a bit longer...

First of all, DON'T buy stuff before you try going to stock rom, you can get back anytime from your nandroid backup. Battery problems are very hard to track, someone already suggested betterbatterystats, try finding it yourself with that, and if you fail you can;
1- Wipe everything and run the phone with only betterbattery stats installed and see the problem,
2- Go to stock rom and see if your problem persists without any apps installed.
Edit: If your cpu is misbehaving (even in stock), there is nothing you can do since its a hardware problem, you need to go to service centre.
Hi there,
I've been having a problem for some time now with stock S3 ROM (4.1.2), and now that I've rooted my phone, I noticed it consists with both CM11 and Revolutionary S5. So it's probably the hardware, but if anyone could give me any kind of assistance or direction, I would be grateful.
Here is a recent shot of my battery life: http://imagebin.org/309592
As you can see, I nearly ran out of battery in 2 intervals of charge lasting about 4-5 hours.
If I use my phone moderately, only using like a few apps for 2 hours, it wouldn't last more than 5-6 hours.
If I only use it to respond to texts and get through the day, it lasts for 8-9 hours.
I've tried disabling all of the extra components for as long as I could, use power saving mode on the stock/Revolutionary S5 ROMs, Greenify etc.
Another problem I have is that the bottom part below the battery gets freakishly hot by just using a single app for 15 minutes or so. It's getting to the point where I'm uncomfortable holding it.
Is there any solution to my problems? Should I get a new battery? Or something else?
Get a new battery.

Thanks for your answer! But here's what I'm worried about, the battery doesn't really get hot (unless I'm misunderstanding something), but rather the part below it (I assume it's the SoC). So will that really fix my problems or is it some chip at fault here rather than the battery?
Also, would you recommend going with a Samsung official battery or an alternative?
Battery is the cheapest thing to try, get an official one.

What applications are using your battery the most?
Have you tried to flash a light ROM? (Bloatware Free)
Try to UC and UV the device and see if it keeps having the overheat problems.

Hi Saad_, here's my current battery status:
http://imagebin.org/309724
http://imagebin.org/309725
In the process of taking these screenshots and uploading them, my battery widget showed that my battery's temp went up to about 95-97F. Browsing the gallery and looking at some site on Firefox brings it up to over 100-105F.

The battery use is normal. As suggested above I recommend you to try it out with another battery since you said your battery's temp is reaching high limits. Try a new battery and check if the problem still exists.

What's a normal temp range for a battery? For reference.
Surprisingly enough, it feels cold/normal, the part below it is what's getting real hot.

I don't EXACTLY know what is a normal temperature on an S3 but my phone's battery is usually at 33 C (92 F) after web browsing and using Viber / Facebook. You need to try another battery in your phone to find out if the problem is with it or not.
