Tether with Phone+Google Nav=Sort of GPS fix? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Seems I was able to get a GPS signal while connected to my Android tether. Navigation worked like 80% of the time. I might look into tetherGPS as I use to use that for my nook. Might be more stable.Someone else test?

Working GPS Navigation w/o bluetooth!!

Big thanks to lionclaw. TetherGPS allows you to tether your android phone w/ GPS to your nook color and share gps data, no longer need bluetooth. I'm currently running it on my droid x wifi-tethering to nook color on eclair. Works great. All credit goes to lionclaw.

Grab it in the market. Sorry for the quality but you get the idea.
wow, this look awesome
I'm slightly reluctant to try it
seeing as how there are <50 downloads and 0 ratings in the market
but I guess I can always return it
and losing out on 3 bucks really wouldn't be the end of the world anyway

He just got it up today.
No Rush
The author stated he was working on a lite version to try it out so if you are leery to try it just hang on.
This works great!!!
Point Inside is usable now! I was just looking at a map of the Seattle airport. Before this, it would just force close when I tried to pull up a map. Logcat showed it was due to lack of GPS.
I am a happy camper.
Oh wow.. this looks incredible (espcially since i will tether with my incredible! hehe).
One question - does this also still allow internet data tethering? Or does this just piggy back on any tether (Wifi or barnacle)?

You can still use WiFi for data. The server broadcasts to the WiFi subnet (currently coded for /24 subnets).
So as long as the LAN you're on has a /24 subnet and supports broadcast packets you're good to go. Just connect both devices to the same network. It also works fine with the device tethered to the phone using android-wifi-tether. I haven't tried any other wifi tether apps, but so long as the above conditions are met I don't see any reason why it won't work.
I'll probably add a server configuration to allow for different sized subnets or the ability to send directly to a certain IP, if people want those options.
Thanks for the feedback everyone
any chance we might see the server running on an iPhone? It should work in a similar way, at least on the Nook Color side...
...and it made some news already...
This is exactly what I was thinking could be done a few weeks ago, but never posted about it. I'm glad someone did it and it works, this is pretty cool.
Hopefully the battery usage is reasonable etc..

Rock on good sir! I cannot wait to try it.....
But sadly, it seems like we must - the Nook (in the market.android.com page) is listed as incompatible. Were you still going to post a client (lite) apk so we can try it out?

Had to get back to work...
The light version is up on the market and at http://www.comptonsoft.com
It includes the full client and a light version of the server that will run for 5 minutes at a time. After it stops its notification will change to "Time limit reached." and stop sending GPS data. You can just re-toggle the widget to start it again.
I'll have a setup/demo video ready in just a bit.

Not unless he was posting here at the same time
But I have to admit, this application matches very well the new version of Google Maps released today that has real time traffic re-routing.

Problem with Bluetooth

I have had my Omate Truesmart for about two weeks now and I have loved it. When I turned my watch on this morning the bluetooth refuses to turn on. It was working last night but this morning it won't stay on. I have tried from the notification bar and from the settings wireless and networks. Neither approach works. When I slide the toggle to on from settings it immediately jumps back to off.

Do you have recovery?
If you have recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache and then try...
You could have same problems like many other.
If wiping won't to the job, it could be hardware issue, maybe to open it and check connections.
But contact Loki first...maybe he has better idea...

Loki suggested on G+ to try disabling Quick Boot, then rebooting.
It's in Settings>System>Accessibility
Yes, you have to turn off quick boot to recover bluetooth, or pull the battery or let the battery run all the way down. Otherwise it doesn't really reboot, and Bluetooth will still not work.

Just for reference. This did solve the problem. I am now back up and running. In regards to network access unavailable I had solved that with mine since I have it paired with Glass I had to enable bluetooth tethering. Then the error went away then the problem is that it always asked to connect and I had to manually disconnect it otherwise it would severely drain my battery.
I have also tried enabling Bluetooth tethering but still cannot connect. I don't seem to be able to connect with my laptop either. I can't send files at all. I might just have to be patient and wait for an update.
I am using the latest cm nightlies and Ubuntu 13.10 if it makes any difference.

Tethering is broken. At this time, with the poor base firmware Omate (and others like SimValley) is being given to work with. we get BT audio and not much else.

I have had Bluetooth tethering working on my stock omate and with the custom rom. I have it connected to my google glass as just a headset and with bluetooth data connection. I cannot get the my glass app to recognize it but I can get the internet sharing working over bluetooth.

That's the only tethering that works. Can't do it they other way (x201 > phone > internet) so it's still broken really.

I see. So it can provide bluetooth tethering but not consume it.
Iconbit Callisto
I've heard that this watch and the TS is pretty much the same watch. I'm having trouble with connecting with BT with my HTC One XL. I tried connecting a BT headset to it and it paired and connected. When I tried my laptop and my phone, they pair, but immediately disconnect; or rather, they don't connect at all in the first place. Has anyone had, and resolved, this issue with the Omate?
The BT issues affect ALL x201 smartwatches. So if it gets fixed on any x201, this forum will go nuts with folks applying the fix.

I saw a video from Cnet with the Omate and that BT icon at the top of the screen showed that it was connected... Can the TS's the people on XDA at least connect to their phones through BT or is that an on & off thing for all of these watches? Ugh.. I wish I was proficient at programming and other things so that I could help out with designing ways to improve on these smartwatches...

Me too! I really don't want to bother with adding a SIM card. The watch is great but I'd really want to use it with internet connectivity. Just curious... if this does work... will it affect my data plan same way as a hot spot? Sorry if its a newbie question.

4.3 Stock tether app

I am running stock rooted 4.3 with the tethering fix from runandhide05. Does anyone else have an issue where the stock app takes like 30seconds to finally allow an attached device to browse. My computer connects very fast but ti says there is no network available for a long period of time. Meanwhile the tethering app doesn;t say a device is connected. I really liked wifi tether for root TrevE mod because its connection was instantaneous. Any suggestions or has someone got the old app to work?
Any suggestions??
Same thing happens with FoxFi...sounds like it's a 4.3 thing...

No it doesn't.
And to complain about something taking 30 seconds to authenticate, assign an IP and allow passthru....
Anyways this is the norm. To verify you can restore to stock, purchase tether package and verify that's normal.

Was not trying to come across bad. It's a proven method that involves changing two lines of code. It gets old when people who don't know how something works try to blame the person who does and their method/code.
My suggestion is a valid and proven way to test something that you may find unacceptable
If you don't want the person who wrote the code then don't mention them in your post. Then others who don't know how it works can continue to speculate on what the "problem" is.
