actually you are wrong... the law states that you can not change the esn of a phone period...
In an Order, the commission adopted a rule (22.919) requiring that all cellular telephones for which type acceptance is sought after January 1, 1995, must be designed such that the factory-set ESN can not be reprogrammed. At the same time, the commission stated that it considers any knowing use of cellular telephone with an altered ESN to be a violation of the Communications Act (Section 301) and alteration of the ESN in a cellular telephone to be assisting in such violation. The Wireless Telephone Protection Act (Public Law 105-172) was signed into law on April 24, 1998, expanding the prior law to criminalize the use, possession, manufacture or sale of cloning hardware or software.
The cellular equipment manufacturing industry has deployed authentication systems that have proven to be a very effective countermeasure to cloning. Authentication supplements the use of the ESN and MIN with a changing encrypted code that can not be obtained by off-the-air monitoring.

How do I backup all of my flashed Boost mobile settings?
You folks seem to be a very knowledgable crowd, perhaps you can help me with this.
I just purchased an Evo 3d and had it flashed over to boost at my local boost store. Upon picking it up from them he went over a few things, most of which made perfect sense like not updating certain things because it will set me back to sprint but the one thing that did not is he said no hard resets. Problem being most if not every custom rom either automatically or advise you to do a factory reset from custom recovery. How am I supposed to flash my precious cyanogenmod with that hanging over my head lol? So I've been trying to learn how to flash using cdma workshop and qpst so that I can copy/backup all of the already flashed Boost info so that if things go wrong Im good. Also I hear some of the non-SENS based roms require little workarounds to keep data and mms going which also would probably require a copy of the Boost flash info. Things like the AAA shared secret and HA secret etc.
Any insight to this problem would be most appreciated!

Hard reset and factory reset are different. The factory reset option won't interfere with your boost service....After you flash a new rom all you'll need to do (w/every flash) is ##data# go to advanced scroll to mms url and change it to http://mm.myboostmobile.com or if you're not on a sense rom I think you can go to messages- settings-MMS-connection settings and change the MMSC field to http://mm.myboostmobile.com
That should be it...remember boost uses sprint's network so there is little to worry about as far as compatability.
Lastly to backup your boost configuration..get QPST and use that to read your phones current configuration (network Info) and then save it with qpst and you should be fine.

Mr. louforgiveno: First off thank you for the quick and diligent reply. Pertaining to backup and restore using QPST; should my phone loose its boost flash I would press "Load from File", select the previously saved QPST data file and then press "Write to Phone" and it will restore me to boost mobile settings?
I flash/wipe anything I want from recovery and I have a boosted 3d. I guess it wouldn't hurt to have a qpst backup but have never had anything happen to my boost service from flashing/wiping. I use apn backup n restore to restore boost mms settings after a flash, easy as cake. Ics u can't restore apn involves alil more work prior to flashing I believe. As far as the factory reset within the rom, idk, haven't come across the need to use it...

Lost flash after updating to 2.17 w/o HBOOT 1.50
So it finally happened, I lost my flash. Everything was going fine, even downgraded to 1.4 hboot using recent XDA method, but after that I saw an updated firmware without the 1.5 hboot update by xHausx and used it thinking it would be fine since all the other PG86IMG and RUU's have flashed perfect.
As I posted earlier, I backed up and everything with qpst and CDMA-WS but after restoring from backup it looked like it put everything back (it even said BOOST at the top) but I was wrong. When ever I try to dial out it tells me my account cannot be validated and of course I have no 3g either due to lack of service.
I've looked over every setting using every # code and I cant seem to find anything wrong with the configurations and APN restore does nothing.
I was very paranoid about modding a flashed phone at first so I was very thorough, besides backups I also took many notes on the info the # codes and qpst/cdmaWS provided before making any changes at all.
Which makes me ask if the fact that QPST keeps changing the ESN is creating and issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Where did that joker come from?
Here is a thread I started and had closed about ESN: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1685610
That explains it enough. Flashing to another carrier does not change the ESN. Boost, Cricket, MetroPCS allow non-carrier ESN's on their network, that's why flashing is allowed. You can technically flash a phone to Virgin Mobile, but, here is where the problem is: Virgin Mobile does not allow non-Virgin Mobile ESN's on their network.
Did that idiot get banned?
Ok so I rooted my phone like 6 months ago and have had A LOT of problems with it. I have only had a small number of ROMs work properly. Another words something on every ROM has been missing such as MMS, Bluetooth, 4G, WiFi, Mobile Hotspot, etc. I have been running ZR3DX 2.6 version A and everything has been perfect except for the 4G function. I decided to change my kernel and now NOTHING WORKS AT ALL. MY friend and I worked on my phone for 7 hours yesterday trying to fix it. The phone won't take any RUU ROM or anything else. We were able to change the Recovery from Revolutionary to the new Teamwin touch recovery and finally get my Eternity Virus Infected ROM to somewhat work. I can make calls, text, and have some data. A lot of things are not working: Superuser, MMS, Bluetooth, WiFi, 4G, Hotspot, Screen Shot. I have tried everything that I can think of and my friend has also tried everything he knows. Does any one have any ideas to try to help get this phone working again and taking ROMs?
Did you super wipe between flashes? Sometimes the leftovers from previous Roms can cause issues.
Sent from my ICS 3VO with Tapatalk 2
Yes, are you fully wiping before flashing? Are your radios and firmware updated? And just to be sure, you are CDMA correct?
^^^^this^^^^^
or if you want to use ruu.exe, make sure you have stock recovery and not cwm,twrp,4ext,amon ra....and you should also have locked bootloader to use ruu.
I'm currently S-OFF using NeoMAX 2.0, and I've been having a problem where my data shuts off when my screen is off. I know there is the Power Saver Settings app that allows me to toggle the settings. But no matter what I do, my phone seems to ignore the settings I set in that app.
I'm also only able to get 4G after enabling 4G and then rebooting. Then I have 4G until my data shuts off, then it reverts to 3G, and then I have to toggle 4G off then on again, and reboot to get it briefly back.
Also, my wifi doesn't automatically turn off, regardless of the settings in the Power Saver Settings app.
I'm wondering if I'm missing something, or using the Power Saver Settings incorrectly.
One thing I've noticed is that the Power Saver app isn't listed in Super User as an approved application. Not sure if it should be there or not.
Also, I'm not sure if this is related, or if it even matters, but when I flashed the ROM, I did a clean wipe. Several times. Also, whenever I freshly flashed the NeoMAX ROM, my dialer crashed whenever I used the numpad, and I had to flash the GB-firmware patch [from Scott's ROMs] to get the dialer and SDcard to work. (Does this mean my Kernel flash was not successful?)
Current Setup:
NeoMAX 2.0
Kernel 3.0.16-gd0049f1
Baseband: 1.22.10.0310r
Build Number: 3.14.605.12
Amon Ra recovery
Any suggestions as to what I can do to fix this?
Thanks for helping out.

I don't think you should be using the ENG Hboot with an ICS ROM. There is a thread in Development that will provide you with the correct firmware/Hboot/radios for ICS.
I am pretty sure that you flash the ROM of your choice and then flash the Hboot package as PH98IMG by rebooting into bootloader before running your ROM for the first time. You may have to flash your recovery of choice back after that.
If you still have radio issues, you can create a nandroid, and do a factory reset in stock recovery (may also need to be flashed) and then restore your nandroid.

This definitely happens to me on my Sense 4 ROM as well.
I can't help but feel like, if you EVER select 'Power Saver', even if you un-select it later, the 'Always-On Mobile' stays off (even though you can't get to that as a feature on its own).
Fail.

The "power saver" options ONLY take affect when the battery falls below a certain percentage..I've heard 14% or 20% . They have no effect on everyday operations.:good:
...i've never seen them kick in below 14% myself, though.:laugh::laugh:

Thanks WookieFan! That did the trick. I wiped clean, reflashed my rom, then before it booted, I flashed the combo ICS combo zip. Also, for future reference, I didn't have to reflash my recovery. It stayed intact when I flashed the firmware/hboot/radio zip.

That would make a lot of sense with what I see.
EXCEPT
It does look like WiFi automatically shuts off with the screen off (or after 15m) when I have Power Saver On, and when I have it Off, my WiFi always stays connected (as I have set in my WiFi settings). This is a repeatable experiment, on my Newt's XXX 3.1.x ROM...
Maybe different on different ROMs too? Hard to tell! I first thought THAT was why Data was going off when screen goes off (sometimes, -- behavior just like every other HTC I've had with 'Always On Mobile' set to Off). However, the Always-On Mobile behavior seems to be Off all the time, regardless whether I have Energy Saver on or off. Confusing!
My data shutS off late at night when screen is off.Starting maybe around 12? no matter what I do. If I screen on it fires right back up. Then come morning it works like normal around 5 Am ish. It's a off peak thing I think.

I have a rooted Evo 3D running ICS 4.0.3 with Sense. Blah blah blah.
Anyway, I depend on Wifi a lot cause I dont use data. Its absolutely no problem when Im at home.
But when I go to school, the Wifi is almost useless. But its weird, because I can get on the Play Store, and download apps, but that's it. How much sense does that make? Sometimes I'll receive Google Voice messages, or email alerts, but I cant send a Google Voice message, browse the internet, open an email, or play those games I downloaded with friends. I have no idea what this could be.
Before the Evo 3D, I had the OG Droid, which did everything just fine. Which makes me wonder even more why this happens.
Anyway, Thanks in advance!
Which rom are you running? Have you tried to flash another kernel? Have you tried another rom? Are you sure that your schools Internet is not safe guarded or blocking what they would refer to as warez sites?
( Don't ask me for help as I couldn't care if your phone explodes, eh! )

Im running the stock ICS Sense rom from the OTA update (4.0.3). And I know that my school's wifi doesnt have these things restricted because on my previous phone (OG Droid), everything worked fine. I could browse the web, send GV messages and everything.
Not sure if this helps, but Im rooted with S-Off on HBoot 1.58.

OK. So you've tried different ROMs and get the same behavior. And I'm assuming Wifi works correctly everywhere else or you would have mentioned it. So, I'm leaning toward something with the school wifi. I know that my work wifi only lets students out through port 80; nothing else.
Having said that, I do find it odd that basic web surfing and Google searching doesn't work while the other stuff does. You'd think it would be the other way around.

Im seriously stumped. It doesnt make sense to me. Im able to download all the apps I want, and get notifications, but nothing else. So I dont think its the port, because Im obviously getting some sort of internet connection. I've done endless amounts of Google searches and cant find anyone who has had this problem. I know there a web filter, but it only blocks certain inappropriate sites.
But what puzzles me even more, is how my previous phone did everything just fine. So I dont think its the WiFi.
Im probably being a bit repetitive, but my mind is just blown. It literally makes zero sense to me.
Try this.
NVM. Since your problem is WiFi related this probably won't help.
It sounds like your school uses some kind of proxy for security purposes.

You may need to set a proxy when you make the wifi connection to your school's network. Those settings are available by checking "Show advanced options" right below "Show password" when you first connect to the access point, or by long pressing the SSID of the network while connected and selecting "Modify network". Some people have also reported solving Internet connectivity via wifi issues by clearing the proxy settings if they were somehow set by accident.
You will probably need to check with your school's network administrator to confirm that and get the proper settings. I'm not sure why the OG Droid didn't require similar settings but it might have been able to pick up the proxy automatically like Internet Explorer does on a PC.
BTW, unless you checked the option in the Play Store app settings to download via wifi only, you may be getting your apps and notifications via Sprint's cellular network without being connected to the Internet via wifi at all.

I make sure that the Mobile Network option stays off. I know for a fact its via WiFi. And I did some research to find that this should be easily fixed. But having the crappiest luck sometimes, the viperROM I'm running managed to hide the RSTP/HTTP Proxy settings (Not sure how or why) making them inaccessible. Even worse, I cleared all my backups on my SD card to get those 2 gigs of storage back, so I cant restore to my stock ICS ROM from the OTA update while mainting root and S-OFF. At least not that I know of.
Sorry if I seem like kind of a noob, I got this phone used like 2 weeks ago. I still have a little to learn about it.

Sorry if I seem like kind of a noob, I got this phone used like 2 weeks ago. I still have a little to learn about it.

To be 100% sure that only wifi is active you can put the phone in airplane mode, then turn wifi on after that takes effect. I know that works because I do it all the time myself. I'm pretty sure the RTSP/HTTP proxy settings only affect the data connections through the Sprint network and not wifi.
You can flash the RUU.exe to return to stock without losing S-OFF, then flash a custom hboot and recovery and root the stock ROM. I outlined this process for someone else that was S-OFF in this post, which is part of my guide for rooting and getting S-OFF.
Edit: According to this thread, RTSP/HTTP proxy settings can affect ALL traffic. I'm still not 100% sure that they apply to wifi.

I use an unlocked Sprint phone in India, with the following specs after the update (via the link from HTC).
Operator: Reliance Communications in India
Android Version: 4.3
HTC Sense Version: 5.0
Software Version: 4.13.651.3 CLS310297
HTC SDK API Level: 5.45
Kernel Version: 3.4.10-g3d7f5f9 / [email protected] #1
Baseband Version: 1.13.11.1105
Unlocked / S-ON / Unrooted (root gone after update)
After almost 20 days of usage post 4.3 update, I discovered the following issues. Are they confirmed issues or related only to me? I tried searching various threads for solutions but could not find ones pertaining to few issues listed below.
1) Weak signal strength - I live in the same house, but now not only are the signal bars almost nil (which I gather indicates data signal), I get call drops due to loss of signals and most times people complain of my phone being unreachable.
2) Mobile Hotspot - My mobile hotspot sharing keeps switching off. First I thought it must be due to poor signal strength, but I have checked in different places including places where there is full signal strength. But it just doesn't seem to stay on. And most times, the moment Hotspot gets connected, the data signal goes off, switching off the hotspot.
3) Heats up - My phone heats up tremendously every time mobile data is activated instead of wifi. It happens while trying to switch on mobile hotspot, playing music or videos too. It becomes too hot to hold.
4) Personalise default ringtone - Both ringtone and notifications reverts to default tones - 'Sense' and 'Teal', within half hour of changing to other tones. I have tried with built in tones and downloaded tones, and even with other apps such as ringtone makers to change the default tone to something else, but they just revert to the Sense and Teal.
5) Beats Audio - The Beats Audio keeps coming and going while playing music. Earlier I never encountered that problem, but now its consistent. Sometimes I have to switch it off and on manually to make it come back; other times an incoming message ringtone activates it while listening to music.
6) Poor battery life - Earlier I used to charge my fully charged phone only by evening after extensive usage during the day. Now by lunch time, I need to put it for charge again.
7) Root gone - After the update the root is gone and so has custom recovery (TWRP). I have unlocked the phone again, but unable to reload TWRP with Goo Manager or other methods. How to get root back?
8) Task killer - I miss the simple X next to each app to kill the app. Currently I use Clean Master, but it actually does not clean. I kill the apps, but they seem to be still running. How best can I kill those apps?
9) Contact Images - The images synchronised with Facebook are highly pixelated. Only when I open the contact, the images becomes clear. But after a day or so, they go back to being pixelated, even if those contacts haven't changed their profile pics on Facebook.
I am yet to explore fully to discover if there are other issues with this update such as roaming data etc.
Please help with solutions.
For signal, try toggling from CDMA/LTE to CDMA only and see if that helps. For root, you must first install a special TWRP recovery, the goo version will not work. Use the one in Captain_Throwback's thread. Install via fastboot.

Your firmware is messed up, your battery and antenna algorithm is screwed for some reason, maybe bad root or unlocking.....etc
You have two choices:
Backup 'n' Reset or...
Backup 'n' flash a new firmware which is the real fix if it was a software program.
Don't forget to hit thanks button if this helped you.
There is also a newer RUU that was issued. This has the roaming data enabled. Install this first then follow my steps above. The download is located here:

Scroll to the bottom of the first post in the OP to find the download.

I'm at work, just jumped on to say that I can't get text messages or phone calls. I can send them but not receive. I've done all updates but no go. I'm on V3.

I have been having a similar issue (more intermittent) but when I do the code I never get a menu. It just freezes up a bit and then goes on like nothing happened. (I guess I should note that I'm on 5.5, so maybe I shouldn't get involved here.)

Let me start by thanking you. I just did! I took back-up and reset the phone. Most of the problems listed above (1,2,4,6 & 9) solved.
3) still heats up. 5) Haven't got chance to try out Beats issues (its apparently a known issue). 8) Nothing can be done about missing X in task killer.
As for point 7) on Root, where can I find only the flashable TWRP for USB fastboot? Will it work on existing RUU downloaded from original HTC link?
