Hello everyone,
I found it very strange that Samsung developed a wonderful device like the galaxy tab 10.1 without including the option of having a stylus with it. I think this is not a technological problem, because they have later developed a smaller device (the galaxy note) with a stylus (SPen).
Anyways, I have two questions that I would greatly appreciate if anyone can answer them:
1- Is there anyway to force the galaxy note's SPen to work on the Galaxy Tab 10.1?? May be a "naive" solution is to copy somehow the Note's ROM to the Tab?
2- Does anyone know if Samsung will develop a newer model of the tab 10.1 with a stylus/SPen?
Thanks in advance.
No, nope, never ever ever.
The S-Pen uses a Wacom digitiser layer in the screen that detects the pens presence hovering above the screen. In other words it is a hardware thing.
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 does not have this digitiser layer and so can never use the S-Pen.
Hope that answers your question!
Thank you guys for your QUICK replies
Why I need a stylus with the tab? Well, beside the usual stuff (internet browsing, etc), I want to use the galaxy tab to review PDF articles/papers (e.g. this article). These articles usually use small font size (less than 12). I need a stylus with a fine tip to write my notes on these articles while reading them. The types of stylus that exist in the market (e.g. the Amazon link above from joemill) have a huge tip that prevents writing notes accurately. In addition to having a fine tip, the SPen also provides other great features with its side-buttons that I hoped I could use with the tab.
Now based on your answers, I should not be waiting for Samsung to release a tab with a wacom digitizer layer, right? and if this won't happen, can someone suggest an alternative solution?
Update:
After Googling for awhile (after knowing that GalaxyNote uses Wacom digitizers - thanks chaosdefinesorder), I found that there are some tablets out there that have Wacom digitizer layer (or a similar technology): (1) Lenovo ThinkPad (Android - 10.1 inch screen), and (2) Asus Slat (Win 7 - 12.1 inch screen). The main problem with them compared to the Galaxy tab is that they are heavier and larger in size.
Why can't Samsung just integrate this technology in their tablets >:-(
It would be nice if samsung would add this capability to their next version of the Galaxy Tab. I use mine for taking notes and marking up PDF files in meetings. Can you suggest a PDF editor that works well for the 10.1 Galaxy tab in the meantime?

Ultimately its a Galaxy Tab vs Nexus 10 question but before you all yawn, for the purpose of this comparison, lets ignore which tablet is better in every respect except sending the screen to a TV in the room.
I'm figuring out a solution for a company with 5 meeting rooms in new premises. They have all their content on Google Mail / Drive and want to present to customers or have internal meetings and look up mails / watch Youtube videos / have video conference meetings on Hangout / Skype. They want to 'upgrade' from a desktop PC linked to a wall mounted TV. They want to buy cheap LCD TVs. The rooms all have a wall mounted power socket and ethernet port and wifi in the room. All directors have Samsung Galaxy 3S phones and all staff are being encouraged to move to this phone.
[I started by buying and testing one of those mini-android HDMI sticks but there are loads of security issues. This is a non starter. The Apps administrator has banned these devices. I can detail the security issue in another post if anyone wants to know.]
I have settled on a tablet solution. Its portable, secure and cheap.
Here is the problem...
If I go with Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 then I get Allshare Cast. This means with a cheap dongle available now, I can retrofit a cheap TV and get pretty good screen share.
If I go with Nexus 10 I get Android 4.2 with multiple share, and Miracast but I am worried Miracast is gonna be like WiFi N where its not really available for another year or so. I cant find a dongle that is actually for sale and I saw a review on the Nexus 10 which said that Miracast is not on the device even though the OS support it.
I was wondering if I could get 'Allshare Cast' working on the Nexus as a stopgap until Miracast works?
Alternatively, I get the Galaxy tab now and then upgrade to Jellybean 4.2 in due course?
Last question... Will Samsung Galaxy 3S phone be able to send to Miracast screens via the Allshare Cast function. (will Miracast support All Share cast)?

This Galaxy Tab 10.1 (first gen) does not have Allshare Cast and will not be getting Jellybean. Need to ask your question in the right forum.
Hey all, I know i'm kinda late to the party, but I found a nice little Bluetooth keyboard that has an integrated stand. It works really well for the Tab Pro 10.1 even though it's technically made for the iPad.
Here's a link to my review (with pics). http://www.amazon.com/review/R2XJOV3VU2D9EX/ref=cm_cr_pr_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00HAZOSWY
Looks like a great option. I wish I had found this thread months ago. I've had my Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 for almost a full year now, and while I love the performance, functionality and portability of it, I agree that it has been missing a keyboard.
It seems Samsung has abandoned the Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1. After months of searching I could not find a single custom keyboard option. Instead I could only find general/basic Android keyboards.
I've tried several Belkin options and some Logitech. Which do okay. Now I'm waiting on a keyboard from WayTools called the Textblade. It is a stand alone option, that is super thin and portable. Since I travel for work and run between classrooms at my University Portable is very important to me. I cannot fit my tablet, books, notebooks, keyboard, laptop, mouse, and etc. So I'm cutting down removing the 5 lbs laptop and 1 lb Belkin keyboard for the aforementioned option.
Thanks for making this post.
You're welcome.
Is that Textblade keyboard made specifically for the Tab Pro or is is a generic Android device?
Unfortunately it is generic but portability is the main selling point. See https://waytools.com/hands-on
Funny, I just pre-ordered a TextBlade as well. Looking forward to it!
Hi XDA people! I got a Tab Pro 10.1 as a gift a year back or so, I've been enjoying it with games or playing HD movies on my TV with HDMI adapter. I've also used it to study a lot, mainly just read while in bed. Very comfortable way to get A:s on your exams. However for the next semester I'm going to have to do way more written work, essays and such. This semester has only been exams so haven't really had any need for a case/keyboard. I've Googled a bit and found absolutely no case with integrated keyboard that fits the 10.1, nor do I think it might be the best idea to get as I need to do a great deal of work next semester.
I was wondering if it's at all possible to get a case the tab pro 10.1 and then a seperate keyboard for it? Or should I just invest into a laptop? I'm very greatful for any tips I can get!
Regards /Rob.
Samsung has neglected the Tab Pro 10.1
Unfortunately, I've been in the same boat as you. Looking for a year now for a folio/keyboard case for my Tab Pro 10.1.
There exists some options on eBay but nothing specifically made for the Tab Pro 10.1. I even considered a Logitech Keyboard case made for the Tab S since the dimensions were so similar but in the end i decided against spending $99+ on something that probably wouldn't fit right.
I've given up that search and opted out for a stand alone keyboard. I've tried several Belkin models and i'm now expecting a keyboard from WayTools called the Textblade. Very slim and portable. I plan to make this tablet and keyboard my daily drivers for School/Work.
If anyone is interested in this, I can create a mini tut how. You will need root on the other android device but not on Yogabook. I am guessing that I am the only one who uses it this way.
I use my Yogabook to draw on my Note 2014 10.1 for example. Sounds like a stupid idea, but it is not. For instance I can keep the screen at any distance I want, I also can use the pressure sensitive pen on the screen of Samsung Note without disconnecting my Yogabook So I can switch back and forth at no cost.
This seems to work with any android tablet well as long as they have proper input. I tested it with my Nook Hd and it works. So if you have a 12 inch android tablet then you will get much nicer screen space and much better pressure sensitivity. The Yogabook pen has much deeper pressure sensing compared to the wacom stuff ships with Samsung line as far a I can tell.
I haven't got one yet but plan to (there are other more urgent pending expenses), but I would love to have this for when I do get it. I'm guessing that not only will it work for other tablets but any other Android devices (like tv boxes).
But anyways, I hope you share (and that the method survives the nougat upgrade if/when it comes).
Apologies for the thread resurrection. Did you make progress with this? And if so, how well does it work?
Can I, for example, use Sketchbook or Squid on one Android device, and just use my Yoga Book as an input device for it, much as one would use an Intuos tablet on a PC? Can it operate with the Yoga Book's screen turned off?
Hi,
I have a tab 4 (sm-t230 Not tab s4) and I'm looking for a stylus pen which I can draw with and create art - does anyone know of any compatible pens? I just wanted to try it out on my old tablet first before I invest on a more expensive one?
Thanks
