[Q] Splashtop question - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I have a question regarding the stock splashtop app installed on the prime. I didnt know this was on here at first (Asus does a good job at hiding it) and downloaded the non-HD splashtop app that is free on Amazon market today. First off, the HD version looks much, much better. Its quicker too. All around more awesome.
Except... the version on the market has a menu that pops up with some really simple but great buttons. You can bring up a scroll bar, switch between screens if your computer is running a dual monitor configuration and a few other nifty things. All of these can be handled with annoying gestures (really? a three finger tap? Am I the only one who doesnt have three fingers of the same length on a hand?) does anyone know of a way to get that pop-up window back or why its missing?
The market version also has a cursor mode. For some things, this is pretty useful as well. Anyone know if thats hidden somewhere too?

In the screen where you pick what computer you want to connect to, there is a button on the top right most spot that you can tap to and go to the settings. The first option in there is to turn on the hint screen.
Not sure about the cursor mode. I don't think it is in the included version.

Where is this located on our prime, I couldn't find it!

i think i read a comment on the HD version's android market page that the feature is missing in the HD version. I don't have my prime yet but it should be here next week from BB! (Fingers crossed!!).
Post back if you do find it though!
Anyone know if the version bundled includes internet discovery?
EDIT: Found my answer - it does. User manual page 53 http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/EeePAD/TF201/TF201_MANUAL_en_20111206.pdf

Ok, so I was trying out the mycloud program and the version of splashtop on the prime seems to have VERY washed out colors. I then downloaded the HD version from the market and the colors seem to be better.
I opened a picture of my car which is red and compared it on both. On the mycloud program it was clearly orange and on the HD splashtop from the market it was a washed out red. Looking over at my desktop that the picture was coming from, it looks just like my car looks like in person.
I like the program but the colors look like 8 bit, how can we change this??

I have the regular version of Splashtop on my Bionic, and also had it on my original TF but got rid of that and installed the HD version (both from from the market). I never noticed any difference in pixel depth between the two, and neither looked like it was 8-bit. Are you sure it's not something on your host PC or an obscure setting somewhere that was changed by accident?

What is the color space of the image? It may be that the TF doesn't render that quite as well.

i'd never heard of splahtop before but i read about it on another forum, downloaded the streamer app to my home pc and i must say that the remote pc function works extremely well on the prime. i was streaming movies to my prime with virtually no lag or stuttering. freaking awesome.

I just wanted to say that I am able to streama full bitrate bluray rip to my prime via this app, playing on media player classic on the host PC...the host being an old athlon ii x2 240...I am amazed, to say the least, especially since the quality of the stream is not only watchable, it's what I would call very good. It works out just short of what you would expect from a 720p YouTube stream. I have yet to try over the net, but I'm likely to use pled for that.

Splashtop HD Updated

It looks like they finally fixed the issues with Splashtop HD and the 10.1. I want to know if anyone is using it and if so, how is it so far? I'm very close to buying it, but want to know for sure that it is working.
Splashtop Remote Desktop HD
"...** Validated for Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Asus Transformer, Motorola Xoom, Acer
Iconia Tab A500, Acer Picasso, LG G-Slate, and others **"
I saw that in the market this morning. I'm curious if when you access your PC, if it does like other remote desktop type apps and actually shows on my screen at home when I'm away. I'd have to remember to turn my display off, but leave my cpu on if that is the case I assume.
I have it. works fine. I see almost no difference between it and the non-hd version though. hopefully they add all the features they have on the ipad soon.
Does it take up the full tab screen? Does it still change the resolution on the pc?
Has to be some reason for hd version.

So it doesn't support higher resolutions? I'm trying to decide between this one and Remote Desktop Client. It has great reviews.
I own it. It has the option to scale the screen to match the tab, or set it to 1280x720 to fit the tab. Works great, provided the computer is both on and logged in.
Unfortunately, on headless servers the software is useless because the client software requires a user to bbe logged in and active. When an RDP session ends, the software shuts down automatically and prevents login through Splashtop.

I have a similar setup where that issue affects me. I also wish it could zoom if you did want to use a higher resolution.
It is very fast, you could watch a movie from local network fine but with a little bit of delay.

yes, it does support higher resolutions.
The resolutions are
800 x 600
1024 x 768
1280 x 720
Best fit to this device
Native of the computer
So basically it does any resolution if you choose native of the computer.
Is there anyway to zoom using this version?

Any recommendations for this app? I've been using VLC for the past while, is this better?
I use this type of app numerous times a day to get info off my companies servers as well as use our company data software.
I have used this for the past 5hrs and im impressed so far. Works well. Maybe a little lag once in a while...but im assuming that's from spotty 3g service (tethered to phone).
I got this app yesterday so I could stream live TV from windows media center on my desktop. The video was surprisingly smooth. I would say it ran pretty close to 30 fps with some fps hiccups from time to time. The audio was great as well.
I haven't tried using VLC but if you're looking to watch other things than video files, this app works great. Other remote desktop apps come nowhere close to the video and audio performance of this one.
Ever tried 2X ?

What makes this better than free one like 2X ? Really would like to know.
Also I found a hack that lets windows home edition work like a terminal server which is saweet!
Even lets you connect console and have more than two users just like terminal server.
EDIT: ah I see now 2x won't play video over rdp... Window is black in player
Splashtop doesn't use traditional remote desktop protocol, it uses its own streamer that you install on the computer/server. I've never seen regular remote desktop or vnc server/client stream this well, especially with videos.
I have no experience with 2x but no video or black video window on client/secondary monitor is usually due overlay issues. Try changing video player setting away from overlay.
What kind of upstream connection do you guys have? Splashtop HD works amazingly well on my local network, but once I try using remotely I find it's performance leaves something to be desired. It works OK, but is generally slow and I wouldn't even think of doing any audio or video with it. My upstream is capped to around 100 kb/s or maybe a little higher, so I suspect that may be the issue.
Does anybody know of a solution that works better with such bandwidth constraints. I'd like to be able to remote in on my tablet and from my computer at work.
Splashtop is great on a LAN, but not as good over the internet. My cable (comcast blast) upload is ~3.7 Mbps at home, and the DSL download at work is 3 Mbps. And even then watching videos is not good. The audio portion is fine, the video portion is about 3 frames per second and less.
For watching video over the internet, Plex or Playon should be better. With Plex, you can adjust for your bandwidth. I think Playon detects your upload and adjust accordingly.
I couldn't get Plex to detect my server over the internet to test on my Gtab 10.1, works on a regular computer browser so it's not a firewall issue. Playon works fine for streaming. But I suspect your 100kbps could be problematic.
So between LogMeIn Ignition, 2X, Remote Desktop Client, and Remote RDP, which do you all recommend?
I plan to use it for repairing/diagnosing software issues from my house instead of having people bring me their computers.
I'm (generally) not that interested in watching video via remote desktop of any sort. It would be nice if I could use spotify from work sometimes though. Mostly I just want to have access to my appications (not to mention unrestricted internet access) on my home computer.

[Q] How can we solve the remote desktop right click problem?

So I got my dock today and I've begun sampling remote desktop solutions including several RDP clients, VNC clients and Splashtop HD.
So far Splashtop seems to be the clear winner in terms of video performance, which is important to me as I'd like to at least be able to do simple things in games with high video demands (check the auction house in MMOs for example). The problem is that when I plug in a USB mouse or use the touchpad with Splashtop HD, there is no right click support- right click seems to be bound at some level to back in Android. I have not pulled the trigger yet on Remote RDP (paid) because I already own splashtop, so any comparison between the video on the two would be great, also.
So, questions:
How might it be possible to change the way android sees a right click from the mouse? If it were possible to make android see a right click as a random rarely used character like ` (tilde), there are ways to tell your desktop to interpret such a key as a right click (mousefighter comes to mind).
If the above proves impossible or unwieldy, is anything comparable in terms of video to splashtop?
I agree splashtop is pretty incredible from a video standpoint. You might try gotomypc? I believe they have an android app.
I didn't know about this right click issue, I've been using splashtop but I don't have my dock yet.
I'm sure there is a workaround...
TF201 | XDA Premium
i use pocketcloud. The free version only allows one config but i just reconfig when i need to. It has a nice mechism for different mouse and keyboard functions but i have not tried an actual mouse with it. Not sure how good video and stuff is since i just use it to admin servers. It does pass windows sounds though.
Plz post in the Q & A forum..
Pocketcloud Free does support right click from an external mouse Sadly, de paid pro doesn't I hope they will upgrade soon.
I don't know if this would theoretically help, but in ICS there's a setting to change the touchpad right-click to long press rather than back. Doesn't seem to work for me though...

Long press left mouse button=right click in Splashtop. While that's not perfect it doesn't seem to be a particular problem, or at least in my use it doesn't.
I use this, and right-click seems to work just fine. Free and real RDP (not another program that needs to be installed on the desktop) makes it perfect for me.

Don't know how well video works, though. I've never expected video to work over RDP.

Using my Prime with Apple TV

A couple of guys in the office have recently gotten iPads & the boss is now talking about getting a couple of iTV's for the meeting rooms - to compensate for the fact that they never put proper IT infrastructure in there...
Will it be possible for me to connect with my TP? I'd hope to be able to flick through images, show & mark up .pdf's and possibly open some CAD files on the telly screen. Being able to use YouTube & play movies would be a bonus...

One option would be doubleTwist with the optional AirSync plug-in (which adds the Airplay functionality). Otherwise, you could just mirror the Prime's display using the micro hdmi output directly to the television for a wider choice of content.

But this doesn't mirror the Prime's screen, which is what I'd like to be able to do. AFAIK that isn't currently possible. Correct me if I'm wrong. We have an AppleTv in one of our conference rooms at work and I would like to link to it for presentations, etc.
Thanks for the responses. It seems that the solution I'm looking for does not exist. Shame... I will however install one of the airplay apps & see how that works out.

I do actually. Do you understand the question I asked, because your link doesn't answer my question...
If you have a 3rd Gen Apple TV then doubletwist doesn't work with Video. It works well with Audio. I had a case going on with doubletwist where they ended up refunding me the cost of the Airsync plug in as it wasn't working as it was supposed.
I think with 2nd Gen Apple TV you might be alright, but I haven't tried it.
I was trying out an app called 'iMediaShare' or something of the likes the other day. I was able to go through photos, videos, music (as long as it is stored on your device and not in gMusic), and youtube over an Apple TV. Looking through it, I do not see any way to go through PDFs or CAD designs though. For everything, your best bet as of now would be to use the mini HDMI and find separate apps for everything.
I have tried both AppleTV media player & iMedia player, but I cannot even see the Apple TV in the devices list. Its a third gen...

[Q] Telechips TCC8920 CX1 stick and hulu + problem

(running 4.0.4)
Hi, skip to the next paragraph if you only want to hear about the hulu problem. I broke down and tried another Chinese off brand android device due to the price (under $40 with shipping) and I'm actually pretty happy this time. This is the best one yet. Had a couple minor things but I was able to fix them (annoying keyboard overlay kept coming up even with an external kb so I killed the process, then it did the same with voice rec typing so I disabled that process too)... flash was clunky but I was able update it, in the market no less, and it was better. I'll finish the mini review with netflix works well.
But, finally, to the problem. Hulu plus goes sideways once the first set of commercials tries to run after the video starts (re: the commercial/s before the show are ok). It tries to run the commercials at the same time as the next segment of the show. Looks sort of like two separate windows with the commercials on top. Waiting out the commercials does not work / the overlay wont go away. I'll add; the hulu video quality looks great. Much better than my older single core a9 device which seems to have a low frame rate. Also; I'm not trying to block the commercials and I can't find any ad blocker software on my device.
Any ideas? This would be a pretty cool device if Hulu worked on it (read my kindle books on my big tv, surf the web, keep and eye on my email, supports all the meeting software apps and has a good Citrix VM client piece...).
PS
HBO Go also works but video quality is bad. I think it is on HBO's side. They probably have the resolution set low for phones and pads; not high enough for a larger TV.... They just gave in on HDMI video so maybe they'll fix this soon...
thanks
Well; didn't seem to be ad blocking related in the end. I switched to Hulu 2.6.2 and it is working. Down side is screen refresh seems slower than the current version... but it works.
