[Q] Reset Xperia Ray without Loosing Root and CWM Recovery? - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

I have Xperia Ray with 2.3.4 latest firmware which is rooted and CWM recovery installed. Its on Stock and bootLoader is NOT unlocked..
Its getting slow after I flooded it with too many applications.. Now I want to reset it but RETAIN ROOT and CWM Recovery.. is it possible?
EDIT: How the **** did I act so Stupid and Noob..
*face palm*
Its in CWM Recovery Wipe Data/Factory Reset.
Problem Solved.. thank you..

As with another android, yes you can. It wont erase them. They will be gone if you reflash with seus or flashtool(if you go with stock rom that is). Btw have you tried to follow my tutorial below? you might not have to reset then.

Hey thanks for the Reply.. Actually I just want to restore my Xperia Ray without flashing any ROM... Just want to make it clean..
Btw.. why isnt there any stock optomized custom with Stock Kernel here in Ray Development section?
I want stock Rom with stock kernel with all bloatware removed and should be superfast..
any Rom of this kind available here?

Help needed--Custom ROMs, Bootloader??

hi everybody!
I need an help. Sorry for my bad english, I'm only 16 and I'm Italian.
I have an Xperia Mini, it's my first android phone, so I'm not very good at android modding! I downgraded it from ICS (Official) to Gingerbread (4.0.2.A.0.42 build) and I rooted it. Then I installed ClockWorkMod recovery. I don't have an unlocked bootloader, but I want to flash a custom ROM based on gingerbread. If I flash it, can I go back to stock rom with CWM's restore function? And If I can't, can I use flashtool to flash it (I have the .ftf file that I flashed for downgrading)?
Thanks very much.
Welcome to our forum
You can flash a gingerbread custom rom for locked bootloader with cwm, but be sure it is for locked bootloader!
If you take a backup in cwm, with backup/restore -> backup before you install the custom rom, you can restore this backup to go back to stock. Flashing the stock ftf will also work, you have to decide if you want to restore or flash, but if you take the backup in cwm it will backup the whole firmware with all apps etc :good:
Thanks! :good:
But do I need to flash a custom kernel? Or can I keep the stock kernel?

For locked bootloader custom roms it's the stock kernel :good:
For unlocked bootloader roms you need to flash a custom kernel, but this is only possible on unlocked bootloader

another question...i choose this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2030659
but the description says..."it should work with any ICS kernel...I currently have this kernel...2.6.32.9-perf [email protected]#1
can I flash this ROM? And if my phone gets Briccked, can I repair it with CWM or it won't boot into recovery?
Sorry for my bad english :crying:

Normally it should work, but the problem is there's not specified if it is for locked or unlocked bootloader. It's stock based so it could work on locked, but it is recommend to flash a kernel. You could try it, but it could be you get a brick
When it's bricked, (mostly) you can't boot in recovery so you have to flash the stock rom with flashtool
Another little advice: If you install an ics custom rom on a gingerbread phone it could end in a brick. I had this when I was on locked bootloader, so I updated to ics (while keeping root, how to do this is in my rooting guide) and installed it again.
You can try an ics custom rom on your phone running gingerbread, just install it. But if it won't boot, flash the stock gingerbread rom and update it with root to ics
Ok. But before installing a rom, I have to do a full wipe, and wiping all will delete the CWM recovery?
I think I'll first upgrade to ICS officially. Can I use pc companion? or I have to flash the .ftf file of the stock 4.0.4 firmware with flashtool?

Read the instructions in the thread, generally you have to yes as it avoids any conflicts.

1.) make nandroid backup
2.) factory reset/wipe data
3.) wipe cache/partition
4.) format system
5.) wipe dalvik cache and battery stats.
6.) flash ROM
7.) flash supersu fix, there are lots of links out there just incase you have problems with root. this will solve your problem if u have locked BL
8.) if you lose CWM, you can use led deletes x-recovery tool to install cwm after you boot your rom
BUT TAKE NOTE THAT THERE ARE CERTAIN THINGS YOU MUST DO IN "SOME" Custom ROMS like Hasa(flashing lockscreen after 1st boot)
MAKE SURE TO READ THE THREAD's INSTRUCTIONS FIRST
Ok i read all the guides...now I'll update to ics and root it. Then I'll install a custom rom.

Xperia U Debranded stock b.1.89 and b.1.100

Hi, its my first (time) thread, so be gentle
This are a debranded STOCK ISC for Xperia U, so only the branding is removed, everything else is there.
They are rom.zip preroted, with cwm included and cwm flashable.
For all bootloders.
Code:
Im not responsible if you brick your phone, and if you do.. ITS YOUR FAULT
Instructions:
Put the zip on you sd-card , boot in to cwm, do all the wipes, install the zip, reboot, DONE!
You can (should) do a factory reset after a couple of (10-15)minutes , let it settle first.
6.1.1.B.1.89
6.1.1.B.1.100
6.1.1.B.1.100 on dev-host
CREDITS
lee480 for the b.1.100 ftf
saeed-constantine and Shisma for the b.1.89 ftf
atis112 and munjeni for the cwm recovery for locked BL
reserved for future use
Thanks man

@pirej, i was waiting for this, thanks!
could you maybe provide a list of system apps that are safe to uninstall with the description of their functions - something like the list for sola in general thread? It would be useful sometimes while debloating the system .
Cheers and have a calm sleep

There is no problem with the link..
I try to download and i downloaded 28% in 1-2 minutes
i could download it without any issue.
installed it , reboot it , used it for a while.
it's quite fast, stable.
yet, i couldn't make google play work. it worked for a little time, then when it asked to be upgraded (hangouts thing), it wasn't loading anything, a bunch of server errors, etc.
went back to my old backup. if i had some more time, i would try harder.
anyway, thanks for the convenience
OK download.......

@pirej
Your debranded .89 fw still has your son andrej in the wallpapers
Hahaha , never mind .. i guess people will download the .100 version , not the .89, i just put it there to have them in one place.
The v.89 was made from a backup of an working MY installation, then cleaned up... 99% obviously
And the v.100 is made from extracted system files from the ftf, so its 100% clean , i just debranded it, and i added root and cwm to it, so.. no pictures there
I'm interested in installing .100, can I do so on a custom ROM? I mean, I'm using eXperience v2.1, based on .54 firmware. I already got CWM etc. Can I install .100 directly via CWM or shoud I reinstall .54 stock first, root, cwm and then .100?

Just wipe everything and flash . My way of flashing was: factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, format/system, then flash the ROM.
Cheers
@pirej, there is still a EA app in your ROM. Isn't it a bit of branding?
Cheers
This is the rom my wife wanted. Thanks!

xperia mini pro almost bricked because of a custom rom

Hello guys, please forgive me if any of this has caused the slightest troubles to you
So,
i just rooted my phone a day ago and installed clockwork mod too...
i am a total newbie and don't know anything about this.... So i went searching for some custom mods for my sk17i or Xperia mini pro...
And i found one on this site http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102979
So then i installed it from the instructions given on most of the websites... i had a kernel of 4.1.b.0.587 on the phone and i don't even know much about flashtool...
Now the rom is installed or whatever it is but the UI has completely changed and it's not like the pics on the site... It's just completely black... And the worse part is that i can't even access my settings menu on the phone... So now i am blocked from doing anything... i cant even start usb debugging and take off the root....
please tell me some roms for the phone or any other way this can be undone...
Oh and btw i also tried installing some roms from http://get.cm/?device=mango because i thought cyanogen is pretty famous...
But none of them gets installed... and i even tried placing them as updates but no luck :crying::crying:
please help... thank you so much

Hmmm...if i understand your problem correctly, you ROOT and install CWM on you Mango, then you flash custom mods...problem appears after flashing custom mods right????
Hmmm....okey, for you info, those custom mods are for CM10 Roms ONLY and i believe you haven't flash CM10 Roms FIRST before you flash those mods...you can't use those mods on STOCK ROM (GB and ICS)...its designed for JB rom only....No wonder your phone got black screen...you trying to flash some mods that isn't COMPATIBLE with your roms...you need to flash STOCK Roms back if you want to fixed your problem...
for you second question...did your phone BOOTLOADER is Unlock??? if is not then sorry you can't CM Roms without unlocking the Bootloader first....CM Roms mush use CUSTOM KERNEL not STOCK KERNEL and after Unlocking you Bootloader then you can flash CUSTOM KERNEL and CM Roms...

As far as I know, the kernel should be in the rom.zip (it's the boot.img). Extract it and flash it using flashtool or the fastboot tools
Otherwise search for a kernel for android 4.2.2 in Dev section and flash that one. Should work too
Sent from my Nexus 4 running Android 4.2.2
One thing to remember is, before flashing a custom ROM or MOD, ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP.
To be on the safer side, backup every week or so and keep the last two or three backups.

Your phone got almost bricked,No it didnt, First thing before installing a custom ROM clear your system, data, cache partition..did you do that?
ok so you have CWM installed..follow this exactly
Start CWM by pressing vol down when your phone starts up,Select Mount USB Storage under mounts and storage, connect phone to pc,transfer ROM zip file to sdcard then
format /system ,/data,/cache ,now select install zip from sdcard and select your ROM zip file from sdcard
Reboot System..
You should be clear now..
Hope i helped..
Regards..
PS :Certain CM ROMS can be highly unstable so i recommend checking out the bugs and everything before you flash a CM rom..otherwise ICS is always smooth and stable..and have got a lot a lot of mdpi roms on xda..thanks to devs..
EDIT: if u r on a stock kernel, then unlock your bootloader by following steps at unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com then flash a custom kernel that supports JB..look over at the index thread created by predator at the dev section..
then follow my steps above..
DO NOT FLASH CUSTOM JB ROM ON STOCK ICS KERNEL.IT WONT WORK.
