Transparent status bar in CM7?? - Defy Themes and Apps

Is there anyway to do it? I tried mods for other roms but could not boot up I was using MIUI till now and I have switched back to CM7 again. A transparent status bar will make my phone perfect, well almost

I think you have to wait for CM9
it may be included in it

Look in this thread. In the first post there are three ways to get the statusbar transparent... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1243590
I have not try it yet , but i will...

For sure it can be done; I've been using transparent statusbar for months now.
I even did it on the latest CM7 Defy+ nightly builds.
I've tried the Z25 patcher, but that didn't work for me so I now do it manually.
So I'd refer you to this thread from krd_medico for a guide on how to do it.
It's all in there and it looks worst than it really is; it's not that complicated and when you've done it sucessfully once, it will only take 10 minutes to do afterwards [because this is nightly specific and have to be done after each new nightly install].
I've also written a new guide about it and might post it later as well...we'll see!
Cheers.

Wows, thanks but that is complicated!

np.
Then you might also want to read my thread here, where I've tried to streamline the process a little.
On Post#2 there I also explain how to get transparent statusbar on any CM7 build. It's a long post but believe me, it's not that hard to do. And if you use my theme provided on there, it ends up beeing a matter of just adding a minus "-" sign and change a 2 for a 3 in one file really...
It is even easier to do if you have have a red lense Defy or a Defy+ since you can use the excellent Dec13th CM7 Defy+ nightly (for red lenses only) as described in the post#1 and go from there.

all that + you can only use ADW, because it's the only launcher that supports transparent SB..

LOL...just get any ADW theme, or get ADW EX & you get a lot of transparent things more for your cm7, no need to through all that...

Well, like I already wrote above, the "all that" only takes me less than 10 minutes to do and is really not a big deal. And since I'm perfectly happy with my own transparent theme, I really don't see what is so funny here...
I might remind you that I took the time to write that guide for the benifit of everyone and to show how to get transparency on ANY theme.
I just went to the market and searched for "ADW transparent" and I couldn't find a single theme showing a transparent status bar in the picture previews of the 4-pages of search results. So it ain't so simple to get a transparent statusbar isn't it?
So why don't you try to be a little more pro-active/helpful here then and make some useful theme suggestions maybe? [instead of what looks like you making fun of me...]

yes, it will if you do what matchung wrote on the post just before yours and use a normal CM7 nightly (not a Defy+ one).
I'd strongly suggest you to try the latest one from Epsylon as it includes the ICS' screen transition AND screen rotation animations.
Finally, go on my thread and look at this post; I've included the SystemUI.apk that has to be changed (specific for that last nightly).
So all you have to do for a transparent statusbar (on the 3 default CM7 themes, my theme or possibly other themes -depending how they've been coded) is:
- Install that nightly and then place my modded SystemUI.apk on the root of your sd card [/sdcard/].
- Open up Teminal Emulator from the app drawer and type the 3 following commands:
Code:
su
cd /sdcard/
mount -o remount,rw /system/
cp -f SystemUI.apk /system/app
--> pull the battery out and back in + reboot IF you get into an error loop; otherwise, again with Terminal Emulator:
Code:
su
cd /system/app
chmod 644 SystemUI.apk
chown 0.0 SystemUI.apk
- Make sure that: Settings_ADWLauncher_System Preferences_Wallpaper Hack
is UNCHECKED IF you use the default ADW launcher OR (quoting matchung here "... on Go, with high quality drawing option checked." if you want to use GO Launcher.
- Reboot.
Still so hard ?!?
PS: I did that SystemUI.apk mod quite quickly and set the statusbar transparency at 10% (and the one from the drop down notification panel also to a pretty low value) --> which is not ideal to my taste.
But you could change all that by following the post #2's intructions - if it's not too complicated for you
Or you can try to install/use my theme included on there and see if you like it.
Cheers!

Hi matchung, thanks for this tip on Go-ex-launcher, i was not able to see the transparent bar in home screen, sometime it wrks, sometimes not, so the checking "high quality drawing" in Go fixed it

[MOD] I9000 *matte* skin and accurate battery *10/5/2010*

First and foremost, this would not have originally been possible without all the hard work zimphishmonger and the3dman13 did to bring fighspit's original battery mod to the vibrant, please see the original thread here, and give them some thanks! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756441
I'm also borrowing zimphishmonger's warning, as i think it works to keep warning messages standard across all these battery mod threads.
WARNING: ALWAYS make a nandroid backup prior to installing any modification, including this one. You are making the decision to install this on your own, and I am not responsible for anything nuclear that may happen to your device.
UPDATE.. I lost count (10/5/2010)
So I dig Eugene's Frankin-twiz rom's, but I still want to keep my accurate battery mod, and well, I think his glossy-black skin is ugly. I also think the stock vibrant touchwiz skin is ugly (for the love of all that's holy samsung, why did you decide the vibrant would be the ONLY galaxy s phone to get your stupid glossy version of touchwiz?!)
So, I ported my battery mod to frankin-twiz and at the same time, ripped all the matte (non glossy) drawable's from the I9000 touchwiz skin, and added in my colored status/signal, mms, calendar, music player, and gmail icons, restored the black background for the power control widget, added HTC's weather icons to GenieWidget.apk, changed to the stock I9000 bootup and shutdown animation and sounds, and of course, I probably missed something else too, lol. You can see some (semi-outdated) screenshots here: http://picasaweb.google.com/113127051130934911253/AndroidStuff?feat=directlink
Also, if you find yourself being a typography nerd like me, you can use this zip to switch the default system font to Comfortaa I take NO CREDIT WHATSOEVER for making the original font, or the android port, I only re-packaged the files into a Clockwork-mod zip file for the vibrant. This will also change the lockscreen clock font to comfortaa, but ONLY if using the default android lockscreen.
Comfortaa system fonts: http://www.4shared.com/file/hYu1TYHL/Comfortaa_system_fonts_ONLY.html
New for ftwiz_final: I'm including an extra version with the samsung calendar AND the AOSP mms app, per Eugene's thread, since it resolves issues with being unable to send sms/mms messages. I'm also including the newest version of my battery mod (this is the version I personally like best and use daily), based on the upright/vertical icons, but with colored borders/outline, and a smoother charging animation (thanks to untermensch!) This can be applied on its own, after you flash either of the other versions. If flashed without flashing one of the other versions first, it DOES NOT contain the gmail/calendar/mms/music player icons, or the startup & shutdown animations and sounds. You can see a screenshot added to the post below too.
Download links here, ftwiz_final ONLY:
Removed, sorry, too many people use other people's work without giving credit, and it leads to way too many headaches, he-said/she-said, ignorance, etc.
Everything should flash via clockwork recovery fine, place the zip on the root of your INTERNAL /sdcard directory, reboot into clockwork, I recommend wiping the cache & dalvik-cache, then install zip from sdcard, locate the specific zip, reboot.
Enjoy, cheers everyone, and if you come in here posting bugs/whining for help without first making sure you cleared your cache and dalvik-cache, then I'm just going to ignore you,
Looks Great!!!
Thanks alot works well on my phone
i love it! not a big fan of the round battery icon, so this is great
Great work! Glad to see everyone is making their own customized battery images. We are gonna have a battery collection soon.
just a quick update to the OP with a new version with some colored/themed status icons.
cheers

I did, switched from the green circle. The battery indicator works fine.
I used the circle one but saw this with the other colored icons and thought they were cool. Seems that they don't quite work properly. Stock the GPS indicator shows in the notification bar any time it's on. With the new icons from the op the indicator is only on if I'm in an app that is using the GPS. I'm going to flash back to stock then to the battery only mod (i figure I need to to switch the other icons?)

Hi,
Thanks for trying it out. I have no idea how there might be issues since this is literally just img replacement from the segmented green circular battery mod, so however icons should work with that mod, is how they should work with this mod.
Maybe run a fix permissions from rom manager and see if that helps?
Also, my GPS icon has never worked like you described, even stock, (in other words, mine isn't always visible in notification bar, even when not in an app actively using gps, its displayed only when using an app that needs GPS, and disappeared when exiting the app.)
If you want to try and modify your own framework-res.apk with these files, I may upload just my png images once I'm done replacing/coloring all the icons I feel like modifying.
Thanks again for trying it out though, cheers
Lastly, I got bored and colored the wifi icons, cell-signal icons, and vibration indicator icon, I'll post the framework-res.apk in the first post, but won't package a new update.zip until I decide I'm done modifying icons, lol.

Hey again,
Glad I wasn't screwing up phone's, lol.
Anyway, I'm still working on changing all the icons, can't seem to decide where to stop yet, since now I've started modifying icons for other apps, gmail, mms, google voice, trillian, etc. And of course, now that I've gone with a slightly brighter green in the other icons, I may go back and tweak the color of my battery icon to match.
Anyway, here's a screenshot of some of the icons I'm mostly finished with (though for some reason I'm not digging the alarm icon, anyone have color suggestions for it?)
cheers,

Yeah...sorry about that. Anyway I hate that stupid icon to begin with so maybe something totally different? I did a GIS for alarm clock icon and there are a lot of possibilities. I think that maybe the stock one with a red square and white clock could be good.
Edit: Maybe something like this

If you don't already have it, I suggest you install Koush's Clockwork Recovery. You can install it quickly by using ROM Manager.
Once you boot into the recovery ROM, you can back up your entire phone using Nandroid (highly advised) and then you're free to experiment to your heart's content.
Now back to your question: you can save the file to your internal SD card and search for it using the 'Install from SD' (or something like that) option in the Clockwork ROM, install it and reboot.
Good luck, friend.
What's the right way to revert this? framework-res.apk restore?
Updated OP with newest mod.
I think I'm done with this for a while now, though I might zip all the png files if someone else wants to try and make this into a morph when the app gets updated.

Hi,
Yes, restoring your backed-up framework-res.apk will restore the battery mod. If you used the newer zip that also includes the Gmail icon mod, then you'll need to restore Gmail.apk too /system/app too.

[MOD][CM7][Theme Chooser][22/2] Battery icon with percentage

Hi everyone,
Here's a battery icon mod (default gingerbread icon and cyanbread) with percentage
I got the images somewhere on xda, can't remember where.
Anyway, I resized all of the png's to mdpi size and added the animation/percentage modded xmls and compiled.
This is now Theme-Chooser compatible!!!!
Installation:
-Download the attachment
-Install apk as usual from a file manager
-Open theme chooser. Pick the one with the big blurry battery with 99 in it.
-Hit apply, then hit "apply anyway"
-You may need to reboot to properly apply
OLD:
This also includes my pattern unlock fix. (Actually I made the mod over a customized framework I use, and its late so I'll upload a version with only the battery mod later there's no point really... waste of time uploading with my slow connection. So you get both like it or not )
Get it here.
Screenshot below.
As usual, MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP FIRST!! Then flash in recovery and reboot. THIS IS ONLY FOR NIGHTLY 51 but it may work for a few others!! (should work between 50-57, confirmed on 50 and 57 see below for compatibility, try at your own risk)
Enjoy!
Updates
[20/2] Added patch for new nightly #2
[17/2] Added patch for nightly #59 RC1.
[14/2] Added a patch for the modded notification drop-down in the screenshot. (this can be flashed even without the battery mod)
[14/2] Added battery mod to Cyanbread! Its included in the zip now, just switch to cyanbread and you're done (Fun fact: I had to add 200 lines - one for each png - to the redirection xml to register all the png's) (also, sorry if the cyan is slightly off when compared to the original, it was the best i could do in photoshop [I hue'd all the green images])

Update: Made the mod for cyanbread!!
Hi guys,
I tried that kitchen on my Wildifire CM7 build 52 (gingerbread):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=724778
http://circle.glx.nl
Modified only the battery icon.
Firstly it seemed to be working properly, but then my phone started crashing from time to time - terrible lags and very long response. It takes few minutes to reboot the phone when lags start.
I dont know what is the reason for lags - maybe it is because of CM7.
Can someone put the file in other place, because dropbox is banned at my work?
Thanks, nhnt11
Here ya go
Doesn't work on #59.I'd like to see the transparent bar
Yup. Framework mods never work when the rom's size changes.
Anyway, workin on patching the new framework now. will upload soon.
edit: for some reason its refusing to compile. even without any changes. strange...
edit2: figured it out. it was using the latest version of aapt which was in my SDK path... i redirected it to the one thats packaged with apktool and it worked. patch coming up
Update to nightly 59.
RC1 coming soon.
edit: 59 patch works on RC1
Doesn't work on #60.
Bar isn't transparent and the icons for apn, brightness and torch isn't available.
I'm looking forward to the next update, looks very awesome!
Update to the new nightly #2. Probably no more updates for a while tho as i have exams
Love the Battery Icon. I know you mentioned you have finals, but if you have the time, could you update it to work with Shinzul's [ROM][gginggerbread-6] - Wimax for cm. Will post the link below in case you don't have it. I believe they used CM7 nightly 40 for the rom. Love having Wimax on my Evo again. Thanks!

Guess what, i forgot to add the themed apps in the first release. That's why none of the apps was themed.

Also, is statusbar transparent?

Yup dialler is as in screenshot, sorry dumb question, which part is the statusbar..? LOL! Far as i can tell the only issue is the white on white in the notif area, i don't have the date showing that would overlap the ongoing icons, as in the OP, IIRC the date is only showing in CM, or i haven't enabled it if at all possible.. downloading 2nd release.

If you install adw and untick wallpaper hack from advanced settings, you will have a transparent statusbar ( the top bar where you get your date/time/data & wifi icons etc ). You can see thru the statusbar. If you have used miui earlier, you'll understand what i am talking abt.
Also is your date shown on statusbar while pulling down notifications?

Oh ok I got it now, no, I don't have the Status bar, as in the pics, the carrier name is the only one there, no status bar icons/widgets.
Nope, no date on the status bar when I pull down for notifications.
You should not see your date. That's how the theme needs to work. And you should be able to see your wallpaper thru the statusbar as shown in the picture below. Use a lighter wallpaper. You cannot make out with a dark wallpaper.
I just flashed the RC2 stock, I was on your original Twisted Inception for the first Special, and leaves the Twisted inception keyboard. It may just be a fluke since it isn't your updated Twisted Inception. No big deal cuz I like that green themed keyboard I posted to go with RC2 anyway. So now gonna try your new themes.

I get it now, sorry bout the confusion, so I checked and the status bar is NOT transparent, tried installing ADW to untick the Wallpaper Hack, didn't change anything though. Still the Status Bar is solid and is not transparent.
I don't think it's a big deal though, but if it's necessary for the theme, by all means just post a build I can test for you.

I dont know why the png's are not changing. Also i changed all network icons to miui style, but it is still green. I'll take a look later.
Ok. Found out why the statusbar is not changing. Its not the themes fault. Usually the statusbar image which is in framework-res.apk is a .9 png ( statusbar_background.9.png ). The theme has this file, but the rom uses a normal png ( statusbar_background.png ). So even if you apply the theme, the statusbar image is not being replaced.
Also found out why network bars are still green. HM has made a lot of changes not found usually in Froyo based roms.
I'll post a final build today.

That makes perfect sense now wish we could have thought of it, since we do know this isn't your normal build with mass changes in it, we just don't know enough about anything to be able to know that lol. Sorry for wasting your time sileshn and thanks for making the unusual adjustments for us.
That's ok guys. I am uploading 3 versions of the miui theme now.
1. Transparent status bar - no date
2. Transparent status bar - with date ( notifications images will overlap date )
3. Non Transparent stock statusbar
As soon as someone checks and lets me know that they all work as expected, i will port the other themes.
Sometimes i get fustrated with things and that's why i was a bit harsh in my comments a couple of weeks back. No hardfeelings, LM.
You know that this is my hobby and i do it because it feel good. And also for a few cups of coffee whenever i get a donation.

Transparent status bar theme

I'm on the quarx 2.16 nightly and was wondering if there's a theme out there that just makes the standard system theme have a transparent status bar (and maybe notification pull down too?)
I tried Orion theme, but don't like the miui style notification area. Is there a way to only use the status bar, but noneof the other mods (like icons, skinned dialer, etc.)?
I kinda like the simple system theme.
Thanks

Simply put no! Downloading a custom Rom is the only option @ this time.

GoLauncherEx have that option, and it's a very nice launcher.
I don't know if there is a theme that does that, :/
Quarx added that feature to his nightlies, and the Orion theme and others w/ transparent status bars work. I'm just wondering if there's a theme out there that has the transparency, but not too many other drastic changes to the look and feel.

I'm pretty sure that a quick search on xda would have bring you some answers on this...but anyway..Read the second post of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448310
It might look long and complicated but itsn't so; it only takes 3-4 minutes to do after you've done it once...
On the first post there I even gave a transparent theme that I've moded.
Read all: pretty much every themes for cm7 can be made transparent but not every launchers support them and they might also require additional quick settings.
Cheers

Thanks,
I had read that post, but i didn't make it allthe way to the bottom, where i guess the answer i'm looking for is located. sorry. I guess I stopped reading, becasue i tought it would only work on the nightly you mentioned in the post. I was glad Quarx included the ability to have a transparent status bar, so i wasn't sure if changing all those files would be necessary.
I guess I'll get to work, figuring out which combo makes a good semi-transparent status bar. I wish there was a setting to control that (and notification area also?)
Yet another project making me step deeper into the world of Android. To think that when i got my defy (my first and only smartphone) i had no intention of rooting or anything. I guess that's what happens when the phone doesn't work well to begin w/
You can have a look here to get an idea on what to expect.
You know that an apk is basically a zip file right? So you could also get the 4 files with modified opacity (transparency) from my theme there and replace them in the SystemUI.apk of the nightly build you are using.
The only 'tricky' part in all this is to replace that SystemUI.apk on the system once those files are changed [and that you've used baksmali/smali to edit that 1 line in the statusbar.service file]. But really not a big deal with Terminal if you follow my instructions.
Lastly, I'd also suggest you to try Maniac103's latest nightly (Feb20th) because he fixed quite a few things lately and [to save you some work] I've already gave a CWM zip patch with transparency for it here - but read on there, I included 1 or 2 additional things in it like a different font... If just you just want transparency; you can pull the SystemUI.apk from the patch and use Terminal again to replace it on your phone.
EDIT: sorry! I just remembered that the patch doesn't contain those 4 modded png; only the one line change. So my theme would have transparency but not CM7 themes or others [without changing png anyway].
Anyhow: such a long answer...but if all that helped you in anyway -which I hope-, you can click that "Thanks" button
Cheers.

I'm going to grab this in a minute. Mind if I ask how you went about creating this? I tried using the miui builder that's out there but got stuck.
Anyhoo, great work!

kind of mix and match and trial and error
I came from X10 and there's a guide on mixing the roms (it's buried deep in XDA but you can still find it at Modaco I think)
It's important to have a well working rom (in this case CM7) to base on
Need to get it boot up and read the logcat and change from there
Going to try this soon just wondering one thing does changing dpi fix icon sizes and/or does zeam launcher have an option to disable app drawer so its similar to miui launcher?
Wiped and installed it twice to be sure. I don't even get to a boot animation.
It just dies.
It's looking good so far. status bar is across the top too. Looks like it's a bit short on the left hand side cos there's a little square black box there right now. Will install screenshot app to take pic

is that an app that creates the home/menu keys on the right side like that or is that how miui is?

I have not tried various dpi yet.
I don't think you can disable app drawer in Zeam. But if you drag everything out or set app drawer background to transparent then it's quite similar to miui launcher.

Try factory reset + clear dalvik cache after install. First boot may take a while

Thanks, for a while I thought my zip is bad from previous post.
I notice the status bar issue too. May need to experiment with different dpi and see.
Just installed, looks great! I did go into a boot loop the first time I tried to install. I then wiped/installed and wiped again. Booted up quick and easy after that. Other than the status bar, haven't noticed too much quite yet but its only been 5 minutes. Will post again later.
That's button Savior. Wonder if there is an ICS style softkeys somewhere that would work

The newest update to button savior added an ICS theme. Not sure if that's exactly what you are looking for though. I've been using that on my Gnex for a week or so and love it.

More of an actual softkey row across the bottom like there is on ICS roms which don't have physical buttons. Make sense? Ill see if I can find something to show as an example.
Them soft keys. It'll shift the screen up slightly but it'd be decent.

yes the dpi does the trick
Stock Launcher Icons and Status Bar look much better now (but very big)
Use RootExplorer to edit the /system/build.prop as follows:
remove the following lines:
Code:
ro.sf.lcd_density.xdpi=169.33333
ro.sf.lcd_density.ydpi=169.33333
add this line:
Code:
qemu.sf.lcd_density=240
save and set permission to 644 (all read, top write)
Edit: you need also to replace the keyboard file or it appears super big. here is the LatinIME.apk taken from Nook Color rom. Copy it to /system/app folder and set permission to 644
then reboot
Problem
If you install a theme, the sliding down action wont work.
Help---> how can i unlock the nook lockscreen

I installed a variation of the iphone unlock slider, and sliding my finger exactly where the arrow was didn't work, but right under the slider did work. Maybe try sliding your finger in different places on the screen? I don't know much about miui so I don't know if there is another work around....
