class 4/10 wont have any effect in speed while you working on phone..
class 2 will be slowly cause you record HD video...
4 and 10 are the SAME...you wont see difrence...
only and just ONLY situation where you will se difrence of class 4 and 10 is while your phone is connected like mass storage on your PC...
Lets little explain...
Movie which got 1GB...
Transfer from PC to SD card class 4 or from card to PC will need 126 Seconds to transfer..
1024 / 4 = 126
Same movie with PC to sd class 10 or from card to PC will need 102.4 seconds to transfer..
1024 / 10 = 102.4
But on phone you will get same performance if you are using 4, or 10.

thanks a lot man! but does this mean when you are using the phone, the internal memory's speed performance is the same as using micro SD class 4/10?
huh dude, i would lie to you if i answer anything about that...
But i said what i know
I'm using Link2SD for almost every user app, and I don't feel like my phone is slower. Now having 150 user apps installed with 150MB internal memory left .
class 4 1min copies 245.760mb
class10 1min copies 614.400mb

But try same time write and read.....
Sent from my MT15i using Tapatalk
write and read are in same ratio...
4MB write / 4MB read ( in class 4 )
old (DUAL PRO) cards had difrent ratio...
The class number specifies the write speed, read speeds are usually much higher than that. What SD lacks is the random access speed, it's only good at sequential writing/reading.

Btw, isn't 1024/4 = 256?

Where the hell do you take this information?
Why does my Neo get read speed of 9.2MB/s and write speed of 5.7MB/s onto my Class 4 microSD card then?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#Speed_Class_Rating
Here, look, it only defines the write speed requirement.

Mine gets 5.1MB/s write speed and 10.9MB/s read speed class 4.
Hey guyz.. look what I've found here about internal memory's speed:
http://ancillotti.hubpages.com/hub/Cards-or-internal-memory
The access speed is also quite different. In the case of cards microSD cards have Class 2 (minimum of 2 MB / s writing rate) class 4 (4 MB / s) and class 6 (6 MB / s). A class 6 card offers typically around 6-7 MB / sec write rate and 9 to 11 MB / s read (strange as it may seem, many cards class 2 and class August 4 GB or more also offer rates close addition, although in this case there are no guarantees). Access to the internal memory on the other hand is almost always much faster, with Samsung offering Galaxy S 14 MB / s write and 19 MB / s read, for example.

Im buying a newer memory card for my phone ..
ill choose between:
Transcend 4 GB Class 6 microSDHC Flash Memory Card TS4GUSDHC6
A-DATA Turbo 4 GB Class 6 microSDHC Flash Memory Card
All i need is 4GB i wont store music or anything ...i wanna know will higher capacity be (by any means) faster than lowr ..? ..i mean shud i get 8GB? will it make it faster?
in theory they should have almost identical speed. class only determines minimal write speed (class 6 = 6 MB/s) but it can be even doubled. it depends how lucky you are
edit: here you go http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#SD_Speed_Class_Ratings
Another note, cheap cards (or nameless) even at class 6 will almost always be slower than a card from a good brand
Hi, I've recently purchased a class 10 16 gb sdhc card for my phone on ebay. I got 15MB/s write and 15MB/s read using the SD Card Speed Test application and i got 2MB/s write and 10MB/s read using my stock Class 2 8 gb sdhc card. Now I need to leave feedback and could anyone from this forum please tell me if this is a good speed for a class 10 card or did i get ripped off?

Yeah you got ripped off because class 10 should give you 30mb/s read write

Thats the speed of Class 10 dude !
you got what you paid for
but you can get better result by modifying buffers
you mean use a script to change the reading speed? yeah i know. and thanks for the replies guys i was just making sure no need to make fun of the noob greenstuffs :/
yep, thats what i mean,
it will speed up, read and write both ways !
Your write speed is really good, got 15MB/s, too with my Kingmax 16GB c10, but only once.
To improve your read speed you should install the app "SD increase", then you should get 25-30MB/s read or even more. My Kingmax is cheap (32€) because of that I "only" get 25-30MB/s read using the SD increase app.
When I changed the cache myself I got 40MB/s read, but after a reboot the changes are gone so I prefer the SD increase app.
@ zmbutt:
I think his write speeds won't increase (much), 15MB/s are already really high and not really affected by the buffer size.
it made no change at all :/ i got mine for $35 AUD lol
i have 2 gb sd card that came along with the phone. i presume its a class 2 card. however i get write speed of 9.6 mbps and a read speed of 12 mbps...what should b the class of this one...what i saw on the internet is that class 2 , 4 and 6 have write speed od 2,4 and 6 mbps respectively...is that correct??

why do you need this? if you have unmount issues, just buy a new one.. i bought a really cheap 8GB one in Indonesia (pure win for 10 USD) and it works perfectly (except i have organization issues now)
Class rating is just the minimum spec. Consider yourself very lucky to have one that exceeds the spec so much.

Pardon me, but I don't understand. Is this a question or a comment?
By the way, capitalization makes a difference.
9Mbps would be slower than class 2.
9MBps would be faster than class 6.
hey all, i was just wondering if anyone knows the differences between the tests that crystaldiskmark does to test the speed of a storage device.
there are 4 different tests: sequential, 512k, 4k, and 4kQD32. read and write tests for each type of test.
thanks!
EDIT: heres a screenshot of my results:
I can't tell you about all of them, but sequential writes are what your card class is all about. A class X card is supposed to write a minimum of X MB/s. Your class 6 is writing well above its rating, congrats.
The other I can mention is 4kQD32 writes -- according to the Nook Color folks, it's very helpful for performance of SD installs of Android, so if we ever get an sd install here, hold on to that card. Higher class cards, 6 and 10, often do horrible in that 4k writes category. Class 2 and 4 Sandisks seem to have the best track record, but your transcend isn't half bad, and my best 4k writer is a no name card that outperforms my other 2 sandisks and a samsung. Source.

All right thanks. Its weird though I was just trying to copy a huge amount of files to my sd card (about 6.5 gb) and it was writing at like 3 mb's per second. Does the size of the transfer affect the write speed since this test was only using a 50 mb file?
Sent from my Nook Tablet using XDA PREMIUM
Copying lots of little files, in my experience, goes slower than copying a single large file. When I copy a video onto my card, I get close to the max speed. When I copy directories full of files, anything goes.

Ok well I guess this sd card isn't all too bad then... really wanting to get a 32 gb card but trying to wait until I can get a better deal for it... you think a sandisk class 4 32 gb is good enough for games and videos?? I haven't seen any class 6 32 gb cards anywhere... not even sure if they exist...

I have a SanDisk Class 4 32 gb card for my Nook Tablet and it seems to work fine for games like GTA3, Angry Birds, etc. as well as .avi movies.
I tend to agree with Nookie. Depending on its actual performance (sandisks often outperform their minimum write rating, but not always), it might be frustrating to copy the files over, but viewing videos and playing games will work just fine even on a class 2. Fast sequential read speeds are easy to come by, and frankly they don't have to be all that fast to view even HD video. Your games are going to load into ram and play from there and perform just fine.

Don't know how much will it cost.
Priority is card speed. Higher class is faster: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#Speed_Class_Rating
dont know the cost...my advice go for sandisk HC mem card class6 or a class 10...ur phone performance vl increase gradually ..
iam using a class 6 16gb my xpm is pretty faster than before.

Phone performance isn't affected by SDcard.
The only difference you can see is when you read/write files from SD, nothing more.
Web browsing doesn't get faster with higher class SDcard. Calling doesn't get better with higher class SDcard.
And Class 4 is enough for Android, I've never had problems with it and the speed is enough for me.

If you want to copy about 4 GB of data to SD from PC with class4 card and then copy same file/s to class10 card the time is a lot shorter with class10!
This is why many people use higher card class.
And when you want to have system in externel memory* this require minimum class6 card to avoid lags.
* e.g. HTC HD2
my Sdcard is 16GB class 10 (sillicon power) and write speed is 8 - 9 MB/s and read speed is 16 - 17 MB/s , this is very nice SDcard

I agree with u...but music player and video playback performance increases...and also after a reboot when u have apps installed in the sd it loads faster in the app drawer.
