I'm sorry I just need to get this off my chest;
I knew the charging port was relocated but didn't think it was going to be an issue having it on the side - I've never owned a phone with the port on its side. I absolutely hate it and at times feel as if I cannot use the phone when charging. I typically play Live Hold'em before I go to bed, while on its charger, but this is almost impossible now.
My main concern or fear is breaking the port when charging... At least when it was at the bottom my middle finger would support it in landscape mode or gravity kept it from shifting when in portrait.
Anyone have the same thoughts, or is it just me ?

Not just you. You won't break the charger though. You will get used to it.

im sure there was a design reason to move it there..I like it there on the side.
I got used to it. Just dibs it kinda funny that the battery is on the bottom and the charge port is kinda up top.

Cant you just rotate the phone so the charging port is upwards and the screen should then auto rotate?
Is better on the side
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
Most software won't rotate the screen that far. It is terrible when you're trying to watch stuff in landscape mode.

I take it you've never played Live Hold'em - No option to rotate (landscape only with charge port on bottom)
Get a right angle micro usb adapter. They moved it because there is no room on the bottom because of the battery size and location.
At least its not on the top like Samsung. The reason I heard is from the needed extra space for the larger battery.
Edit: Whoops Chris already answered.
honestly the top makes the most sense. not in the way if you have it in your car's cup holder and you can hold it landscape comfortably as well...

+1. I prefer it on the side. I use a universal mount for my Evo on my windshield. I use the device in landscape for navigation. On the OG Evo, they meant the charging cable was on the side, being pulled down. Now it is straight down, no shearing forces on the charge port. And again, when playing landscape games, it is straight down (I don't have any problems holding it....)
Again, OP has his 0.02, I have mine. I'm certainly not saying he's wrong (if he doesn't like it, he doesn't like it), just adding that not everyone hates this change, and in fact some of us prefer it.
I love it on the side a lot more than on the bottom. And I hold my phone landscape for gaming a lot. In fact, on the original EVO, I hated it on the bottom when playing any landscape game. It was as if I had to wrap my fingers around the charging cable in an odd way to hold it. Now, it just drops downward and out of the way.

Exactly my thought. It's well placed for landscape games. It was annoying charging and playing landscape on my Epic. I had to go around the plug and would push against it at times.
I think that was their reason(minus batt location) that the gravity effect and landscape gaming/viewing movies. I don't personally like it but I understand it. I have big hands so the OG Evo putting charging cable between my fingers was never a prob, actually grew to like it like the op.
Love it as well. Easy for me to plaY games and charge.

Yeah. I'm not the biggest fan of the side port either...it seems that there will be a lot of stress at that angle
Still a good phone though
Ok then... Why did they put it back to front? Every other phone charging port has the wide side at the back. Are they just messing with me?

This is probably why they removed the kickstand. The phone has the HDMI out port on the side that should be the bottom (if the stand is in use). I've found this to be a major flaw in the Motorola Photon aswel.
razr finally released in my country today

Can you guys that have it do me a favor? How's music playback during multitasking? The DROIDX2 has horrible skipping/popping during music playback if you try to do anything else at the same time. I may be upgrading to the razr & want to make sure Moto fixed the issue before I jump into it. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, it's on the x2. Don't know if it's on the tegra2 or the ram.

I've experienced the same rarely with the Atrix on stock rom. I don't think it's tegra related but poorly implemented kernel cause i dont experience such issue on faux123's custom kernel.
I love it, 99% perfect.
Thinner than I thought and a bit wider than the bionic, but feels strong, solid, and light. It is ridiculously thin- almost hard to believe
Screen is FAR better than the bionic, but you can see a bit of jagged edges if you really focus in. it is not an iphone 4 retina, but real world it will prove to be more than adequate.
Motocast is available for mac, downloading off the website now.
Has the motorola bluetooth skip issue when paired with alpine bluetooth in my car (i had the same issue with bionic). Hopefully a new rom/ BT stack (CM?) will fix down the road. Not a biggie.
Call quality: excellent.Best I have ever experienced
Speaker- loud and clear
Email gestures is a cool feature that wasnt in bionic rom. Funny thing is that it only works under the email accounts, not universal inbox view...
Gmail is available in universal inbox with its own gmail logo, yet not all features from gmail app are included in the motorola email app (make sese?).
I do see it getting a bit warm, but so did the bionic (and several other android phones). Its a catch 22: with LTE radio, and such a thin profile with zero heatsink or dissapation, heat is inevitable. You are basically one kevlar membrane away from the heat source. Warm, not hot- but after prolonged heavy use I can see it getting hot.
Smartactions is really cool and intuitive, however I wish locations were based on GPS rather than wifi (on other devices, leaving gps radio on in standby used less juice than leaving wifi in standby, constantly searching.)
I am grasping at straws to find ANY issues with the device. Slight wiggle to power button, I dont like the VZW logo (was able to get it off with a penny on the bionic, this is under the glass). screen might be a little blue/green tint at lowest brightness compared to bionic.
All in all, it is the best device available today. I can see the allure with the Galaxy Nexus, but lack of SD card is a big issue with me, as is the general plasticky feel of samsung phones. The build of this thing is awesome, as there are no real moving parts (aside from power button and volume rockers). I hate creaky phones, this solves it. Hopefully someone will show how to easily remove the battery (i dont have the guts)
I'm very curious about battery life once you guys have some time to work with that part of the device. My one remaining fear is that once fully charged, it's drained out in a short amount of time. There's not a lot of battery under that non-removable back cover, and I'd rather not find myself constantly plugging a charging cable into the thing to keep it alive more so than simply using it.
I'm just about sold on this device, but, I'd like some real world input from the present user base on this subject before I drop the cash.
Thanks!
Anybody play lane splitter? My kids and i loved it on the evo 4g. However, on the mopho, i can only pop a wheelie for 10 to 15 seconds before it stops. I thought maybe the program was defective, so i got a screen testing program, touch test, market://search?q=pnamerg.hermit.touchtest , and i was able to reproduce it. It's like the i am letting go of the screen. Is it the mopho, or is it just my phone? Ant thoughts?

I just played it and had no problems
it messes up because the Photon has a "water detector", this same water detector to prevent false touches - happens to screw you over on games by eliminating your held touch point after X number of seconds.
any game where you have to maintain a touch on the screen has the same issue.
So I need to alternate fingers to keep the wheelie popped. easy enough. The accelerometer seems to be more sensitive than on the evo 4g too. So the game is a lot tougher on this phone.
For the past couple of months, my screen has been detecting too many inputs on the top half of the screen, primarily in the middle of it. One finger seems to produce up to four inputs sometimes, depending on the amount of pressure. I'm not mashing the screen or anything, but I do play the occasional game of pew-pew.
I've tried a keyboard recallibration and a full wipe to no avail. Currently running ViperROM, but I don't think that's the issue. Any suggestions before I try my luck with the repair plan?
I have the same issue. Looks to be hardware related.
Try uninstall third party lock screen...
I'm using sense for that.
I had that issue for a while. I had to completely wipe and change roms. I think I found a lock screen was to blame. as the other poster pointed out.
Using LeeDroid, I got rid of the sense lockscreen and went back to the droid one. Nothing seemed to change.
When this first happened on a previous ViperROM build, I had been using it for a long time. After doing a full wipe and upgrading to the newest version of it, the problem came back immediately. So, I really doubt it's got something to do with that.

Download multitouch test free from market.. run it .. set phone on table and watch it.. if u see circles while not touching it.. then you my friend have a bad digitizer (screen)... I've had 3
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
That's actually how I noticed the extra inputs to begin with. They only show up while touching the screen.
Edit: A little weirdness. I accidentally left it under my laptop for a few hours. Now, I only get one extra input instead of three. It seems to detect up to four just fine, though.
I found my problem related to this was using a screen protector, the anti glare and clear had these phantoms touches, even from breathing on the screen wrong.
Removed since its got gorilla glass anyways, no more issues.

This is the first phone I've decided to go without one on. So unfortunately, I can't say that's the cause, either. :x
Ive got your answer guys! its the screen digitalizier had the same exact problems for months to the point of throwing it, sometimes i would put a new rom on it and it would fix it for a couple hours and then it would come back I called a cell phone repair place in st louis called. CRP they have local shops and a website you can send it in. It takes about 2 hours if you have a shop around you or send it off. Call around to see if you have any cell phone repair shops near you Ok by now, you guys are dieing too know the price right, $89.99 plus tax for local repair was my price. Beware you can buy this part from amazon with a kit for $25 and theres video guides online too but unless your use to this kind of work ,pay for a shop to do it or buy the whole lcd screen which is over a hundred dollars anyway. I hope my advice helped you guys because im so happy to have my 3vo running like new again.

thanks for that - sonic was doing my head in - when i would run it would freeze and jump as if i wasnt pressing a direction as well - thought it could be a bit dodgy but it looks like the multi touch is working (I guess evo 3d only has 4 point multi touch?)
I'm wondering if I have ANOTHER bad S3. First one never heated up at the bottom but had a bad volume rocker that didn't work. Got it replaced and now this one always gets hot at the bottom. My usage hasn't changed... I'm wondering, is this normal.

I just got my phone yesterday so I haven't really had time to use it. However, when I was downloading all of my apps from the Play Store, I did think it was very hot on the bottom half of the back.
That being said, I'm going to go to the store tonight to get my phone replaced due to loose/clicky home button.
Mine only gets hot at the bottom when playing intensive games like Dead Trigger on max, which seems normal. If it is getting hot all the time on normal use that doesn't seem very normal.
Mine gets hot at the bottom with normal use. :-(
warm at the bottom with normal use. nature of the beast. slim, high powered phone, its gonna get hot
Mine gets warm sometimes on its own with the screen off and everything just sitting in my pocket. Without playing very graphically intensive games though, it won't get what I consider hot. At least coming from my old DINC.

Things like this are a big reason why I'm very hesitant to exchange my phone even though it has problems. You might always end up with one that has worse problems than the first one you had.

yeah mine gets slightly warm at bottom under light to moderate use. doesnt really bother me at all.
It's a powerhouse phone that's so slim of course you're going to feel the heat. If anyone thinks they have a problem with their phone download "Cool Tools" and you can check the temperature live.
I know during easy use like sending a text the phone is cool.
Moderate use like surfing the web or watching a video the bottom half gets warm.
Heavy use such as playing Dead Trigger or Nova will cause it to get hot. But just like any electronic device the more use the hotter the temp. Sadly phones unlike desktop PC's don't have cooling fans.
WARM/HOT IS OKAY! STOP FREAKING OUT PEOPLE!
Mine has only ever gotten slightly warm at the bottom, and never hot or noticable. That was while constantly dropping in/out of service and heavy usage. Other than that it has been very cool, even when charging.
Also those with a case will feel the heat differently as well.. If you have a case you're less likely to notice the heat.
Those without a case will feel the effect more.
Either way too many of you freak out over nothing.
I think this is funny because when the new ipad came out (which i love btw) everyone was writing articles left and right all over the internet about it getting hot.
It's normal for it to get warm/slightly hot especially when using it while it's charging. But really anything after a few minutes of use will make it begin to warm up. Then toss in videos or games and it will warm up some more. As phones get more powerful and thinner the more we will feel the heat. I mean these are miniature computers but unlike laptops or desktops they don't have the luxury of a fan and ventilation system. The heat has to go somewhere right? Every dual core phone i've used gets warm. My Sensation actually gets extremely hot (HTC said it was normal), and my Bionic gets pretty darn hot too.
I returned mine because it was getting extremely hot after only 5 mins of lite web browsing. Back to my S2 or Gnex I guess.
I hear what you guys are saying, but my first one didn't get warm. I don't do any intense gaming or watch videos. I use the Facebook app, instagram, I text and make a few phone calls. The second one gets warm and the first one disnt... Same usage

Got mine yesterday, noticed that it also gets warm on the bottom.
Have one of those belkin cases that covers the rim but leaves the back exposed, so I definitively notice it.
However, as some have said, wouldn't worry to much about it.
OP, do you have the exact same settings as in your old one? Mainly motion actions, Svoice listening for wakeup command all the time, etc?
