I think he means the T-Mobile version. For the T-Mobile version, no there isn't any working way yet available.

I am not sure I follow you. I have a t-mobile version of the phone running cm7. If connected to wifi, I can make a call without the simcard installed(using sipdroid). And I receive incoming calls and make outbound call through the native dialer. I then have the option to use google voice or not, and if I choose not to use google voice, I then choose "internet call" and the native dialer places the call. I have done it on both wifi and 3g. If on 3g it uses my data, if on wifi it uses neither my data nor my minutes.

The issues with the app appear kernel related, which means we'll likely be at the mercy of source releases unless someone gets very lucky. If it's any consolation people are having issues getting it to work on the G2...
Most likely by the time it's "fixed" for the G2, and the MT4G is actually available the solution will be imminent.

it works in the rom leak for the N1 too,if anyone wants to try porting it. it's the MT4g rom ported to the nexus,it's in their android development section.
I'm not sure what exactly you mean by WiFi calling (VOIP, SIP or something completely new and/or different all together) but Skype now works using the JP* Froyo builds out there. The only thing is it restricts you to WiFi only if it detects that you're in the US.
I hope that helps.

This is kind of like the wifi calling that Blackberrys have but different. Say you are out of a network area maybe out of country or in my wife's case at work in a hospital if you have wifi access then this app will allow you to make calls over TMobiles network using your plan minutes. This is not free calling nor will you be able to switch back and forth. If you are on a call using the wifi app and you leave the range of the wifi signal your call will be dropped.
There is another thread in Themes and Apps that has the apk. I have it on my vibrant but I don't think TMobile has released it fully, kind of like Media Hub was at first, so right now I haven't heard that it's operational for anyone with any phone.
Oh and I've heard people spreading rumors that you'll have to pay 9.99 a month but according to tmobile's website it will be free as you will be using your own minutes. Here is a link to the official tmobile Wifi cslling Faqs page http://support.t-mobile.com/doc/tm24195.xml

wifi calling will be awesome for out of the country calling!!!!
I can keep the same number, and same calling rates!!!!
VoIP using Google Voice+Sipgate+SipDroid
So if you want to do free VoIP calling (not using your T-mobile voice minutes) within the USA you
1) Get a Google Voice account (if you don't already have it)
2) Get a free Sipgate account (gives you a phone number that can be called)
3) Get SipDroid to conenct to your Sipgate account
This is what you do
Setup your Sipgate account.
Install Sipdroid to your phone and connect to Sipgate
- set your Sipdroid to only be on when you are on WiFi
Setup your google voice to forward to your Sipgate phone number
When you make outgoing phone calls use your google voice
Voila! You now have unlimited incoming and outgoing phonecalls through GoogleVoice and Sipgate over your WiFi.
Technically you could do this over 3G as well. Not sure how the quality is though.

I just signed up for sipgate, but they only offer 60 free minutes with the free account.

Is that free outgoing minutes? If you utilize Google Voice what happens is that Google Voice first calls your Sipgate account and then calls the person you call. Which means that your call with be an incoming, which makes it free. You have to utilize Google Voice for this however to work properly.
Is there app or a way to be able to use google voice to make calls while in airplane mode? I get a cant make calls in airplane mode. So the phone is holding me back google voice looks like it wants to in background but pop up windows stops it.
My idea is i want to be able to when in low signal area with good wifi like work or home, be able to switch to airplane mode, forward calls to google voice, and be able to call out if needed like normal.

Airplane mode turns off all of the phones radios, which includes the mobile network. No data or voice can be sent/received.

Google Voice does not currently support voip. Gizmo5 is the native, legacy voip support vendor, purchased by Google, that you could have used until earlier this year. We are all waiting for Google to announce services to replace Gizmo... There is definitely something big in the works. In the interim, you can subscribe with an alternate Sip vendor (callcentric) who will change your caller ID for your outbound calls if you ask them to over the phone. I am not up to speed with which sip client works best on android and would imaagine google will eventually release their own.

yea mean over wifi only, when you hit airplane mode, all turns off, but you can turn wifi on in airplane mode. or maybe even if there is a turn cell radio off mode. and i can use forwarding app to google voice.

Skype now works with Atrix at 4.1.83 (Android 2.2.2) and above. You can configure your Skype accont with Outbound Caller ID to match your cell or Google Voice account. Inbound calling is another thing of course.

hi all,
couldn't find an answer to this one although i'm pretty sure the answer is no.
is the SGH-I777 workable to get wifi calling going like T-Mobile phones, or is that strictly a T-Mobile thing and we don't have the app and/or hardware for it?
thanks for the info!
To my knowledge you can't use wifi to make calls from your phones cell number. There is an app I use that will allow you to make wifi calls from a Google voice number. Check out Grooveip. It is a payed app, but it does work for wifi calling. With a rooted phone there may be other options that I am unaware of.

Nope. You'd need to use grooveip (uses your google voice account) or similar apps.

So I just got my phone a week ago and played with stock before going straight to CM10. I went back to stock because of some issues I was having.
In stock, I set up Google Voice on the phone as well as the Internet Call Settings in the dialer with SipGate as my provider. I have SipGate set to receive calls only and Google Voice for all outgoing calls.
My expectation was that I could go to the dialer and dial any # through Google Voice using my wifi at home or whereever, just not using any cellular services.
If I go to the Google Voice site and call from there, it does ring my phone (to bridge that connection) since I have SipGate set up to receive the forwarded call. I just can't call out from the phone.
From what I'm gathering for your reply is that even though I have Google Voice set to make calls through the phone, you're saying it won't work?? What is it about Groove IP that allows you to make calls with the dialer that Google Voice cannnot even though it's settings has that option?
It boggles the mind...
Oh and I went back to CM10 just to see if it was an issue with stock. Stock would start to dial, but exit immediately. I think I saw a little notice about service being out of range or something (again, no SIM). I actually did get a free TMo SIM that I used on my old Nokia XpressMusic 5800, but left it unactivated. A SIM was required to use some features.
In CM10, it doesn't even start to dial, but just says "Mobile network not available" even though I set Google Voice to make the outgoing call.
