[Q] change the default in cmw - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is there any way to change the default in cmw 5.0.2.7 that define sdcard as external sdcrd?

I'm not sure if it is possible, but I'm curious why you would want that.

because sd card is defined to be the external card, when i tray to mount from usb without external card in the phone, it prints some error and i can't mount from usb.

Ahhhhh. Very good reason. I had this issue too. With some versions of ClockWorkMod I had this issue and with some I didn't. I'll tell you if I have this problem with my current version tomorrow.

EDIT:
WTF, I have the same problem as you know. Don't know which "update" caused this, but I cannot use the internal storage directly from cwm anymore. Would have to use adb, but that's rather uncomfortable.
I hope this gets fixed or that somebody knows a workarround.

switch to speed mod kernel if you can (its doesn’t support miui and cm).
it "fix" temporarily my problem (its have cmw 5.0.2.3)
but i still trying to find a way to flash only cmw.
or to change the defaults of cmd 5.0.2.7.

I don't think I should flash another kernel. I had the best experiences with Siyah. It's annoying, but I have an external sdcard inside. It's not necessary for me, but would certainly be a really nice thing to see in future versions.

edit solved (Entropy Came Through Again!) $30 bounty for a fix for my issue!!

I am shocked that i cant seem to find any solution to this, even more so i am shocked that i haven't come across users that are even looking for a solution to this isssue. Anyways here is goes..
Our phones have an internal and external sd card. That great! actually it blows in my mind. I wish we didnt have internal sd because it just screws everything up when you are trying to do what i want to do. I have a 32gb external sd that i want to use as the main storage for nandroids, downloads, ti backups, and all or atleast most application external data. I have to keep deleting backups one after another because i my internal sd card is always full, and when it comes to my nandroids its a pain to have to move them from internal to external sd and then back when i want to restore (which it also causes issues for me and i get a md5 mismatch in cwm). There has got to be a way to use your exteral sd card as the main storage, CM7 has a solutions to this but it only works at boot so it doesnt mount the external as internal within recovery, which i can live with because cwmr 5.0.2.7 allows you to backup and restore to either the internal or external. The issue with this is no other rom does this so if i am on another rom besides cm7 then and i want to restore a backup that i did on my external sd with 5.0.2.7, i have to move the nandroid from external to internal to do so, and when you are moving it from one to the other on your phone it takes forever because it is usually 700+mb.
This whole internal sd and external sd is really pissing me off. This phone (which i truly love and is by far the best phone on my market) and my other phone, droid bionic are the only two phones that i have every owned that have had this issue. All other phones of mine (HTC) have never had an internal sd card.
If someone can come up with a fix or point me to a fix that will accomplish what i am looking for I would quickly pay (or donate) $30.00. Its not a lot of money but its enough to buy some accessories and for me, paying $30 is worth it. Again i need a fix that will work in recovery(cmr 5.0.2.7 does this) and at boot.
Edit. Nevermind, it seems the only way to fix this issue the way i need it is if we get the new cwm 5.0.2.7 recovery. Just waiting on entropy to try and get this in his kernal. Once he does that i will be donating again to him instead
Pretty simple, in recovery.fstab swap what internal and external point to, compile, flash, FIXED.
can you provide some instructions? What does this do exactly.
Thanks
Google "fstab" and "linux mounts" and you'll find an answer... but be careful because as there might be unexpected consequences...

I'm not an expert, but when I first ran CWM the entire phone storage was unmounted and just internal storage. I had to mount it SD. Couldn't you just go to cwm and reverse that?

Well I dont know nearly as much as you, so googling those terms does not help. I appreciate the gesture but i am going to need some more help than that unfortunately.
Does anyone know the block id for sd-external?
did you take a look into fstab? it should be pretty apparent from there. if not, then just issue mount command from console - it prints out all currently mounted devices, including sdcard.
don't forget to send DG $30 for the hint

recovery.fstab? correct not vold.fstab, right? And what is the external sd mount id?
I just want to be clear that i want it to mount the external sd as internatal in recovery not just at boot so vold.fstab will not do that
Entropy just included a fix for this in his new kernel 111311. Just flash it and voila.

Yes i know but thanks.

Any ideas ?

Looking for a rom I can install via Odin . Needs to be a tar file but I cant seem to find one at the moment......any pointers very welcome.
Thanks
sr
You don't have custom recovery working to flash .zip?
Can flash stock firmware found on Intratech thread. Will lose root, but can flash CF-root kernel from Chainfire thread to get root again...... All with Odin.

Sorry
...quite new to all this. I have installed a rom on the sd disk but when I go to install zip from sd card can't see it !!
If its ok could you explain your method ....as Im a bit of a thicko !!
thanks
sr
Depending on what version of cwm 4 or 5 you have will make a slight difference but essentially these process.
Place the Rom zip on your internal sdcard not the removable external sdcard.
Navigate to flash .zip from internal sdcard in recovery. If you are changing versions if android or. 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 or flashing between different Roms, maybe best to factory reset, wipe.cache, and wipe dalvik (in advanced) from within recovery. Immediately flash ROM, and then reboot, give it a few minutes. You will lose your data etc, but will help to ensure you don't get boot loops or force closes etc

...for the prompt reply, problem is I can only get rom onto the external sd card. Can't see a way of getting it onto the internal one !
Guess this looks like my evenings planned with the wife moaning at me!
sr
Boot up. Connect USB to PC and transfer the file.... If your still not sure if your putting it in the correct "sdcard", power off and remove extrenal sdcard.
You could also connect cable to PC in recovery, then "mount USB storage",. Transfer file to USB storage, "unmount", then flash from internal sdcard (look for the USB storage within).USB storage is just a sub directory of the internal sdcard.

Me again..
I have the phone working but the PC will not recognise and storage on the phone which means I can't update etc. Do you have any ideas of what is needed to fix this. At the moment the only thing that I can use is Odin. I did have another rom on the sd card but cant open it.
Sorry about this !!
Steve
Have you installed Samsung Kies? You need the diverts from that installed to PC. Just remember that you need to close kies before using Odin.
Edit :You have selected connect from the phone (maybe have notification on phone status bar?)
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Phew....
Managed to open another rom zip and installed, things back to normal (and before the wife gets home) !
One last question .....I install roms on the internal sd as I can never see them when installed on the external sd, guess I am missing something simple ?
Thanks for your help this afternoon

[HELP] How to get Recovery to show Zip files

After rooting my Flyer via revolutionary, it has a custom version of CWM recovery on it. But this version won't allow me to flash anything from zip. I have attempted to update recovery via ROM Manager, but the flyer is not listed in the device list when I select. Is there any alternative clockwork mod recovery available at the moment? Google has only pointed me back to the same revolution version. I've also tried an older version but it will not flash after parsing the file.
Is any one else getting these problems?
Thanks

What exactly do you mean it won't let you flash anything from zip? What happens?
Hey globatron...
I was hoping you would see this, when I put any thing on the flyer to flash, be it a battery mod, rom, theme etc, cwm does not 'see' it, it returns a zip file not found error. I've tried to ext-sd as well as internal memory, just no luck...
Sent from my GT-P7500 using XDA App
ok, I was hoping it would be something like this. There are a few things to try before assuming that it's the recovery. If recovery runs running I personally doubt it's a recovery problem.
Ok, point #1 is that you were correct to think it might be ext_sd, it is, you can only use the external SD for flashing.
You need to make sure that it is formatted fat32, but I doubt that is an issue or it would not have mounted.
If you're transferring to the sdcard via mounting under windows, make sure you "safely remove" before attempting to flash or it might not flush to SD and you'll see no file, the same applies to doing a "umount" first in linux.
One way of being sure it's really there is to push with adb, but that is not necessary if you do the above. You should not use unmount usb storage in recovery for this purpose, you must unmount from the PC side first.
Hmmm, OK I've sent the data in many ways, as you have suggested, via adb push & including Bluetooth, but the thing is, not even all of the sdcard contents show up on the drive, should I try a different SD all together? What if I download directly on the flyer? This is boggling me, desires and gtabs are for more straight forward... lol
Sent from my GT-P7500 using XDA App
Maybe try reformatting the sdcard, or as you said use another card. You you could try a direct download to the flyer also.
Could it be the folder structure? Will try a different card and report back, Captain!
Sent from my GT-P7500 using XDA App
OK, did a full format on the card, didn't work
Wiped the partition and recreated it as fat32, loaded the zip files and she's all good, busy flashed zips as I type!
Who woulda thought huh...
Thanks for all your help Globatron!

I highly recommend getting this utility for formatting Sd cards. It's much better than the Windows or Mac built-in format and can fix things when they are really messed up.

ClockWorkMod 5.8.4.7 not seeing external SD card??

Title says it all. I would like to keep all of my saved tons and backups on my external SD card but CWM doesn't see or give me an option to backup or flash from external. When I first rooted the option was there but after I installed CWM ROM manager and had it flash to the newest version 5.8.4.7 it stopped giving external card options. Anyone else have this issue?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
Yeah, same problem here. I had to flash the touch 5.8.4.5 touch recovery that is in the S3 forums. Only issue is the date is wrong when backing up.
Sent from my CM10 powered SGS3 i747.
I might be facing the same issue. Here's another question. After updating to 5.8.4.7, did you loose access to seeing your externeral_sd while in your phone? I haven't been able to access it at all since doing the update. Going to try to touch recovery soon.
What happens when you try to mount it from the mount options menu?
Sent from my htc_jewel using Tapatalk 2
Doesn't see it in cwm for me. Whether I mount or unmount. I can see my external when using root explorer or an earlier version of cwm. I paid for the touch as well and it still doesn't see it.

[Q] Clockwork Recovery only see's my internal storage.

For some reason unknown to me, CWM only see's my internal storage. Also, when I try to Wipe Dalvik Cache, it gives an error:
E: unknown volume for path [/sd-ext].
I am wondering if maybe this is maybe causing some sort of issue even though I wipe everything three times...

I am starting to think this causes some serious issues with roms that I install - cause I am betting that it is not properly wiping the internal storage....

I wouldn't sweat it. I've had this issue as long as I can remember flashing on my note (a whole two months) and it hasn't caused any issues that I've noticed. If it's a good release, mine works the same as everyone's. Same with a buggy release, same bugs as everyone else. The sd-ext issue when formatting dalvik cache hasn't caused any (extra) bugs for me.

I would use TWRP instead of CWM.
Did you try to fix permissions though in CWM?
I did try to fix permissions, and it said it succeeded, but still hasn't resolved the problem.
I'm not sure if it's an issue per se, based on one of the above posters. But it is annoying none-the-less, so if someone knows a way to fix this I'd be much obliged.
Also, what is TWRP?

The best way I can think of twrp is its cwm except for a lot more functionality with a more friendly user interface. You can flash it via goo manager app in play store which will overwrite your cwm as your active recovery.
As far as the card is concerned, I would start by...
Backing up w/e before starting
Plug into PC via in phone or memory card reader. All that is important is that your PC can see it.
Use the windows built in diskpart utility to clean it partition it and format it.
Let me know if you need the diskpart syntax, its from command line.

I assume that doing this will leave CWM so that I can re-install CM10?
Is CWM stored on some other storage then internal storage? Some other memory chip or something?
I'm having this issue with CWM too, it's kind of driving me nuts cause it used to see both cards just fine before, and I don't like filling up my internal card with all my roms & radios. I'm kind of scared to use TWRP again though after what happened with my GSII. In short- I have reason to believe TWRP bricked my phone. I had just gotten my Note & was getting my GSII ready to sell(clearing data, formatting storage, etc). I booted into TWRP(which I'd been using for months, so it wasn't user error) & did a factory reset there too just to be safe. It seemed to work fine & gave me the "rebooting" message, and then.... nothing. Black screen. No boot, no recovery, no download mode, no signs of life whatsoever. I had to send it to Samsung to be fixed.
Now, it could have just been coincidental timing, but I'm now understandably hesitant to use TWRP again. Has this happened to anyone else? Sorry to hijack the thread.
In CWM, have you guys tried to mount sd card.

There's an issue with the External SD listing coming up under the root emmc folder, rather than under Internal. Have y'all checked there for your External SD? This applies to CWM and TWRP.

Was getting ready to Nandroid and flash a new ROM, but now got a new issue to deal with.
