[Q] Status 0 installing .zip in CWM - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am having a problem when flashing any .zip inside the /sdcard directory. CWM keeps reporting status 0 and aborts the installation. I have tried creating a soft link to the directory so that CWM would read it but installation will never succeed. I am currently using GingerMod and have tried formatting both phone storage and the external sd card. May I ask what is causing this problem and if there is any solution to it?
Thanks in advance.

From the GMod thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20993382&postcount=2207
@ABOUT STATUS 0 ERROR:
this is sadly a combination of a Kernel and a Package problem...
The binary for the updaters are old, so with the kernel will not work..
BUT
if you change kernel will work
I'll revise them when have a day free, for now use the unmount/mount system trick or change kernel

[Q] E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip-Samsung Vibrant

Hey everybody,
I apologize in advance if this post is a duplicate but I have tried searching for a solution and still lost. Here is what I did: I used the Odin to restore stock rom, then re-rooted using the one click method, then downloaded a rom from theunlockr.com, then used rommanger to install it. My rom has gave me no problems but now when I try to reboot into recovery to install something else(Like the 2.3 keyboard or a lagfix) i get this error:
E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(No such file or directory)
Installation aborted
Can someone please help me? Thank you, BTW I have a Samsung Vibrant running axura-froyo-rom
I had the same problem too.
When I put update.zip at the root directory of internal memory... once I restart the phone (not get into the recovery mode), this file is missing / dissapear. So... I always got this message too :
E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(No such file or directory)
Installation aborted
anybody can help us pleaseeeeee
I got my phone to factory settings using odin then i rerooted my phone and flashed the same custom rom back on and it worked. Try reflashing your phone, backup first, might work.

how to use factory setting using odin ? tick the "re-partition" box ?
can you explain to us step by step please ?
I'm so frustated
Did you guys delete the update.zip after rooting?
If you do not see
sdcard/update.zip using a file manager, download the update.zip from my noob guide, move it to internal memory and then try to flash CWR.
Also, look in the bottom of the noob guide (last few posts) for a solution to a RECENT issue with CWR... I assume whatever Koush did in the last update is causing this problem? BUT, there is a fix posted by another XDA user... just a matte of downloading the file and putting it in the right place.

listen to s15's post....he knows what he is talking about. i followed his noob guide in his sticky and everythign worked perfectly! his vids are also very helpful. one thing i have found that works a lot as well is if you download ROM Manager from the market and then click on "fix permissions"... don't know if this would help in this situation but i have had that fix weird stuff.

yeah this, the update.zip is ESSENTIAL for your phone to run the clockwork recovery, it stores all the things needed, and when you click "reinstall packages" your system goes in update.zip and looks for what to boot up and finds CWR and boots that so you see that screen.
Don't delete it if you did.
i have tried numerous times to root, but cant seem to get update.zip file in right place, can anyone help? thanks. challenged noob!!

When you usb into your phone it needs to be in the initial area of your sdcard.
You might have a bad update.zip file. Two things, verify the md5(if possible) from where you got it and check the properties and make sure it's not names update.zip.zip. The later is very common.
Try this method too btw, when I Odin back to stock I always use this one to root again. Follow the 'Automated Method' area.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786877
you will need these drivers AND set your phone to debugging mode (settings/applications/development check USB debugging).

hey all,
Newbie here trying to flash a ROM, i am running into this same error, i have tried everything here and i have one question (might be a stupid question) but my root sd folder is called SD/, not SDCard/ ...is this a path error?
Please note it file must be in the internal card, not the SD card.
This step drove me nuts.
"2. Copy the update.zip (and the ROM) to the INTERNAL SD (not the external SD Card). sdcard/ " (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732458)
i ran into the same problem...how do i get from 3e to CWR?
here's what's shown in my vibrant directory: Android, DCIM, external_sd, LOST.DIR
i dont have an internal sd (the card) so it's not shown?
the path i got error on: /mnt/internal_sd/update.zip
1. when i tried to "reinstall packages" i keep getting the error that the update.zip file cant be found. should i create a folder for it or something? i think it's a matter of pathing but i cant find out the right place to put the file...(to get from 3e to CWR)
2. i see people suggesting boot with odin or sth like that...does that solve my problem and how do i do that?

You definitely have an internal sd card. Use Astro file manager or something similar and put update.zip on the root of internal sd card, meaning not in a folder. It should look like sdcard/update.zip. If you are having the 3e mismatch recovery issue read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423

i go to the link that you linked and ran the script. then i download the update.zip file at the noob guide with a slimbean 4.2.2 rom and addons. this time i would just put it in the root folder (technically not in any folder). when i try to reinstall packages, the screen shows that it is "replacing stock recovery with clock work recovery"... but then it would go back to the 3e.
so...i guess putting the files in the root folder is correct. but someone it still wont let me get tot CWR...

You have to reinstall packages twice for it to work properly. It is normal to not work the first time, just reinstall packages again and you should be good to go. If you keep having issues you should just flash back to stock 2.1 with Odin and go from there.

[RECOVERY] Official CWM 3.2.0.1 Update (Support for newer NCs!)

CWM has been updated officialy to 3.2.0.1! See the Changelog and FAQ below for more information!
Changelog:
3.0.0.5 - Initial official release for the nook. Only supported ext3. Had bootloop errors with the 1.1.0 update. (Note: Unofficial builds supported ext4 but not both at the same time)
3.0.0.6 - No significant changes to 3.0.0.5 officially. (Note: Unofficial builds supported ext3 or ext4 but not both at the same time)
3.0.0.8 - Broken build. Blame the samsung phones for messed up additions.
3.0.0.9 - Adds official support for ext4 as well as compatability for ext3. (i.e. No need to swap recovery for different ROMs). Fixes "Always boots into recovery" with 1.1.0 updated u-boot.bin
3.0.1.0 - Adds support to for /sd-ext to recovery.
3.0.2.8 - Sets /system to ext2. You can now backup and restore your stock roms! Delete/Update all 3.0.0.5 threads to point to 3.0.2.8 for all rom types. Rom Manager now pushes a recovery kernel as well as the ramdisk!! No need to manually install recovery kernel. Just flash the lastest from RomManager and you are done!
3.2.0.0 - Support for newer nooks with the 5G /data parition! New .32 kernel is included which fixes the freezing after formatting /data! (/data format issues. Don't Use)
3.2.0.1 - Fixes a bug with 3.2.0.0 (actually a build issue) where ext3 (/data and /cache) wouldn't be formatted properly (they were but CWM was bombing out)
*Recommended *
RomManager can now push the recovery kernel. No need to manually install via CWM or ADB! Flash from RomManager and rock and roll.
Q: Why should I upgrade?
As of the official version 3.0.0.9 there CWM supports both ext3 and ext4 ROMs with a single recovery image. This means no more of this swapping back and forth between different versions of CWM! 3.0.2.8 sets /system to ext2 to allow for proper backing up and restoring of stock roms!
This version also fixes issues with the 1.1.0 version of u-boot.bin. Some with this version may experience that your NookColor will always boot back into RomManager. This is now fixed (as of 3.0.0.9)

Q: I upgraded CWM and now my market doesn't work.
Installing CWM doesn't alter any rom or data files which shouldn't have any affect on recovery. There is something else that may have affected your market.
No worries though you can try the following to try and fix it:
If you are using CM7. Upgrade to the latest nightly (which will be after tonight: 3/3)
Try clearing the following: For "My Apps," go to manage apps, market, uninstall updates, clear market cache. Then delete data for Google Framework Services.

Q: I have upgraded but now I am having issues?
So some of you are still having issues with this new CWM version. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give me the following information:
What you are trying to do/accomplish. Be as detailed as possible
What rom you are running and what rom you are upgrading to (if applicable)
IMPORTANT! Grab a recovery.log from your nookcolor. You can do this either through adb or through the advanced menu. If I don't have this then there is little I can help with.

Q: How do i grab the recovery.log?
Method 1: ADB
After setting up adb type:
Code:
adb pull /tmp/recovery.log
You are done. (This is why everyone should learn and setup ADB. It really is stupid simple)
Method 2: Save from the menu
From the ClockworkMod Recovery main screen do the following
Select 'Advanced'
Select 'Report Error'
There is now a copy of recovery.log on your sdcard. Transfer the sdcard to a computer or boot into your rom and mount your sdcard on your computer.

however CW says it cannot mount system so i'm unable to make a full backup

Either should work since both are ran from RAM.
Can the img file be written to an SDcard? Also, can Nandroids made with 3.0.0.5 be restored using the update?

Yes. There is nothing special about the images written to an sdcard. You can even rename the files to uImage and uRamdisk to have it boot without the two-finger salute on the sdcard.

Error in /sdcard (Status 0) Installation aborted

I'm trying to install a mod from the online kitchen but all i get is:
Error in /sdcard/mymod.zip

Installation aborted
Even if i make an other rom, install an other version of CWM or SU or when I try to install it from the internal sd it gives me the same error.
I also tried to flash a different kernel, but no succes.
Any suggestions?
Flash a new CWM and Root kernel.

strong suspect is your zip file containing the mod. did you try toggling signature verification?
Are you trying from Kitchen or from CWM..
Place on int.SD and flash manually from CWM,
if other files are flashed then definetely CWM is preventing you afrom a wrong flashing...
i've tried to change my batteryicons with this guide and that works:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434061
But i want to do it via the UOT kitchen, because i want the lockscreen mod too.
This is what i did:
I've uploaded framework-res, twframework-res, systemui and applied the battery mod and the lockscreen mod, nothing else. Then I clicked submit to kitchen, downloaded the zip and flashed it to my device throuw cwm, and i got error 0.
Should i try other scripting in UOT?
maybe i'm stupid but can it also be that i'm on stock rom (rooted) ics 4.0.3 xen lp7?
Hey,
If you check their official XDA Thread:

You will notice (In the second post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12049814&postcount=2) that it is only compatible with Froyo/Gingerbread Roms.
You can't use it with ICS mate, and this is probably why you are getting the error while trying to flash it.
and what about this line:
Battery mod for ICS roms (NEW!)
i also tried to do the battery mod only, but still get the error

[Q] Help! How to flash kernel, rom, etc. from totally stock YP-G1? I'm a total noob

Hi people. I've been browsing a lot lately and Reading about roms, kernel, and other stuff related to customization of Android devices. I consider myself enough tech-savvy to understand technical things about hardware on this devices but when it comes to all the thing related to flashing roms and kernels and related things i have no clue of what you're talking about, lol.
However, I'm really interested on "installing" Cyanogenmod 10 on my Galaxy Player 4 just to see what happens and how flashing roms feels like, so i can try different roms later and enhance my device. But no matter how hard I try to find a tutorial about how to begin from total stock (as the device comes from the store) haven't been lucky finding one. As far as I know the first step is flashing a new kernet with CWM, so then i can flash the roms. But I'm stuck on Step One :s
So, if there's a link you can post here to help begin with this flashing trend it'd be great. Or if you can redact a "custom" tutorial for me, a total programming noob but interested as hell about modifying my GP4 that would be a thousand times better.
Also, feel free to recommend me kernels or roms or whatever you feel i could use
Thanks!!!
PD: not native english speaker
I just finished doing this exact thing myself, so its fresh in my mind First, BACK UP!! there are different methods with varying degrees of how much they back up, search the forum for them. Definitely backup the efs. Instructions are in the first post for the CM10 ROM. Then, I began by flashing a custom kernel using Odin. Instructions on how to do this can be found in the Tips and Tricks section of this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27615927
Kernels can also be found in the appropriate section of that post. Make sure you get one for your device. All of them include CWM (ClockworkMod) which is what you need to easily flash a full ROM. The kernel won't actually effect your current operating system accept to maybe improve performance.
Next, download the ROM file(s) onto your device. ROMs are also in the above post. Again, make sure you get one for your device. Read the instructions in the ROM thread on how exactly to flash them, but the general procedure is to boot into CWM by holding some set of buttons during start up (probably power + volume up) and navigate the CWM menu to flash the ROM.

Is Terra Silent compatible with CM10??? Reading the thread of Terra Silent a user made a comment on this asking the developer (i guess) to make Terra Silent compatible with CM10.... :s
ok now i have some problems...
got to flash the Terra Silent Kernel. After rebooting everything was ok. Installed Rom Manager in order to install CWM. Rom Manager installed CMW and then came back to main menu. There was an option for creating a copy of the stock rom, thought it wolud be a good idea to make a copy. When i did it, phone went black and then reboted. after rebooting came back to the lock screen but changed language (spanish -> english). Algo noticed there was missing the google search bar. When entered to the apps menu there were a lot of icons of the android robot with an SD card symbol over. When clicked them it says that the apps are not installed on the system.
installed rom manager again, and went to recovery boot. flashed both cm9 and cm 10 included in the cm 10 thread. Now my playr is stuck in the recovery screen...

You internal SD card is probably switched for the external.
Find "vold.fstab. (system/etc)" open it, and change "/mnt/sdcard/sdcard1" to "/mnt/sdcard/sdcard0."

Wait, before doing any changes like this, have you tried on going mnt/emmc or storage/sdcard1? @TheKryptonite he have a 4.0 and the sdcard is working without changing the paths.

I did this change, switched numbers and now i can see the files on the sd card. Only that before flashing CM 10 the access to the sd card was through a folder calles "externa sd", now the sd card files and folders are scattered on the home screen of any file explorer i acess the sd card with. It's not a big ideal but i dont like it.
When i edited the file you told me there was a 1 after where now says sdcard 1. Shoud that number be erased or better keep it?

I'd keep it.

Can't delete files from my external memory card through file explorer

I have tried a lot of custom Roms. I'm on Neat ROM Lite now. Not sure which ROM changed my file access permission settings to cause this problem but I'm not able to delete any files from my external memory card. I was able to delete when I was on stock rom. The other problem is for a few apps I get an error message which says can't install on usb/sd card. I have posted this in another thread
some time back but got no response. Some one please point me in the right direction.
This is what my file permission looks like.
PS: I am able to delete when my fone is connected to PC via USB. So I don't think it has anything to do with a faulty sd card.

Can you please tell me, how to apply a file permission? I tried checking the box which is not checked in the snapshot shared, but that too gives an error.Says "Operation failed"

download mobile terminal from playstore
Hey I know its been quite sometime now.but as ur advice I downloaded mobile terminal and now have to run the following command everytime I boot my fone:
mount -o rw,remount -t/yaffs2 /storage/extSdCard
Otherwise i do not get rw access to my external sd.Istn't there a permanent solution to this? Also I fail to understand what changed my permissions and why does this persist across all the new roms I flash?

Create a blank file and type that command in it. Now save it and rename it to 95mountsd with no extension
Now, if you have init.d support, place it in /system/etc/init.d and reboot
Command will run on every boot itself
Thank you, it worked. Now could please have a look at my other issue, in this post I'd be really thankful.
Can you please tell me what could be the reason for my default rw settings to change, coz I remember when I had stock os I never had to do all this.

Sorry, i'm not good at hardware stuff
Maybe the ROMs aren't mounting that special kind of partition your sdcard is having
FAT32 format works universally
yaffs2 may not
I'm not sure

Hey I have switched back to stock rom and I've rooted it by flashing philz kernel. Now I don't see init.d in my /system/etc , where do I place this 95mountsd in this case?
