default lcd density? - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

I recently acquired an htc flyer. I also own a galaxy tab 7. I noticed that everything on the flyer's screen seems smaller than that on the galaxy tab, suggesting it has a lower default lcd density than the tab which has 240 as default. I ask because on the tab, adjusting to a lower lcd density often causes some apps from the market to become incompatible with the device. doe this mean that the flyer will sometimes encounter this due to its default lcd density?

Flyer LCD density should be 160

!!!ATTENTION!!! -Do this only if u got Problems and know what your are doing by ur own risk- !!!ATTENTION!!!
Hi,
maybe it helps u if u got some issues.
1.Boot into Android
2.Open CMD with Administrator rights
3.cd in to folder where ur adb - fastboot (Android sdk) files
4.Start following comands in cmd:
$ adb pull /system/build.prop
Open the file with Notepad++ (Windows users). Find the line starting with ro.sf.lcd_density and change the whole line to:
ro.sf.lcd_density=160 (if its not DEFAULT 160) <----Then save&exit file
$ adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 /system
$ adb push build.prop system/
$ adb shell mount -o remount,ro /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 /system
5.Reboot ur device
Gratz your DONE!
Now u got Default DPI 160 for your Flyer.
Had Problems with changing DPI to 120 on Flyer and this helps me to get back in to normality
Cheers

Rooted Hero can't delete bootanimation.zip

Hi,
I have rooted my Hero with the tutorial on villainroms page but when I try to delete the bootanimation.zip with astro file manager it doesn't work.

Did you remount the system partition as RW first? The app should let you do this
I have just done what was said in the tutorial so I don't think that I have done what you say and actually I don't quite know what that is.
I made myself a bootscreen and I tried to use that but it didn't work so I downloaded a bootscreen available on the web but that didn't work either.
The bootscreen I have at the moment is from here called drawing-froyo maybe it has to do something with that.
Nah, nothing to do with which one you have.
You need to find out how to remount system in astro (google maybe) and do that.
It will then be easy to overwrite
You could use adb, or downloader a popular root explorer for your pc to browse your phone

Could you provide the adb command to remount with the proper permissions?
Command prompt:
C:\ ..\> adb devices <-- this will detect your phone connect to pc
C:\ ..\> adb remount <-- remount the phone
C:\ ..\> adb shell <-- command to enter shell command, the drive letter C change to # meaning u have enter shell mode
# su <-- superuser permission
# mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system <-- changing permission of read/rewrite
# cd /system/media/bootscreen/ <-- change directory to /system/media/bootscreen/
# ls -l <-- list of apps/files in current directory, this is not important, just to ensure the file u seek is there..
# rm any_files_u_wanna_delete <-- remove aka delete command(make sure u already backup or pulled it before doing this)
# exit <-- exit shell command, type it again until the # change back to "C:\>"
C:\ ..\> adb push C:\any_files_u_wanna_push /system/media/bootscreen/ <-- push ur files, with directory of the file to push then directory of where the files should be pushed in
C:\ ..\> adb reboot <-- reboot command, reboots the phone, unplug it and see it runs.. if the bootanimation didn't play/just stalled, try redoing all these steps with the old bootanimation, or do a nandroid restore.
as far as I know, bootanimation in /system/media/bootanimation/ folder is not in zip files, it's in multiple files(in my stock 2.1, it's boot.gif, boot.mp3, boot2.gif, boot_animation.xml and boot_bg.gif). so I bet, u have to extract these files from the zip and push it one by one.
Good luck on adb

[q] problem editting build.prop

cannot edit build.prop. i get an error when trying to edit it with es file explorer (there was an error when trying to save this file.)
any help? ive edited it before, but i dont know how. im pretty sure i did it this way but im not sure why its not saving properly this time.
running calk+clemsyn rom/kernel combo.
thanks!
Copy it to another folder edit the copy and then move the edited file in the correct folder.
tried that already, didnt work. got another error
I use Root Explorer to do any editing.
Any other suggestions? I'd rather not have to pay for it

If the build.prop you want to edit is in /system, then you'll have to mount /system read-write before you can modify any files there:
Code:
$ su [I]Become superuser. Prompt will change to '#'.[/I]
# /system/xbin/mount -w -o remount /system
[I]Edit the file[/I]
# /system/xbin/mount -r -o remount /system
You must have the Superuser app from Market and busybox installed on the gTablet for the commands to work. If you can't edit the file in ES File Explorer because of permission errors, copy the file into /mnt/sdcard via the command line, edit it there (or on the PC after removing the card), then move it back into place in /system and restore the old permissions:
Code:
$ cp /system/build.prop /mnt/sdcard/.
[I]a) The build.prop file in /mnt/sdcard should be editable now in ES File Explorer.
Edit the file, then do:
OR
b) Unmount the SD card via Settings > Storage, then remove the SD card and
edit the file elsewhere. Plug it back in, and, after it mounts do:[/I]
$ su
# /system/xbin/mount -w -o remount /system
# /system/xbin/mv /mnt/sdcard/build.prop /system/build.prop
# chown root.root /system/build.prop
# chmod 644 /system/build.prop
# /system/xbin/mount -r -o remount /system
All this is much easier through adb if you have that setup.
Note: Do not type the prompts--the '$' and '#' characters--in; they're just there to tell you what the Terminal screen should look like.

Did you have ES file explorer in Root mode?
In Es file explorer
Settings->Root Options -> both boxes checked, (HiAPK mode for first box)
I usually copy the file to sdcard and modify it, get ES explorer in root mode and copy it back. Do a backup before, in case you mess it up.
I usually use a terminal in su mode for editiing/copying, but that might not be needed.

Try
Code:
/system/xbin/mv /mnt/sdcard/build.prop /system/build.prop
instead of plain 'mv'. The default Android mv command is idiotically implemented. (See this post if you're interested in the details):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13956585&postcount=4
Using 'cp' command instead of 'mv' should also work; this way, you'll also have a backup of build.prop in /mnt/sdcard/.

Thanks, I tried two other applications and they didn't work. Was able to edit with Root Explorer. didnt fix the Netflix playback. Bummer.
***** changing the Nexus S to HTC Vision and samsung to HTC did the trick.
Root explorer will work, and is a great app. Worht the money.
Also, ADB from a PC will work as well. Just install the android sdk and use ADB.
From windows cmd prompts the commands are just adb remount (to remount as root) then "adb pull /system/build.prop" (this will pull it to the sdk platform-tools folder that adb.exe is in) and then edit to your hearts delite.
"adb push build.prop /system/build.prop" to send it back.
I was able to use ES File System by unchecking the Mount File System option in the Root options menu and then rechecking it. I imagine that it forced a remount of the file system in a writable mode.
This worked on our nabi big tab hd24
We now have true multiuser, where everyone has their own login, files, emails, bookmarks, web history, etc; as it should be.
I first did a factory reset, then installed kingo root, then another reset, did the build prop edit this suggested (es file explorer did not work) but build prop editor did....
We now have the nabi big tab hd 24 running as our primary desktop workstation computer...
No we just wish for a room update to be made available with the latest version of Android.
4.4.2 is getting old, and as is common little manufacturer long term support...

[Q] ADB Shell

Hi guys,
So I'm in a spot of bother with my Android Tablet (Sony Tablet S) - I deleted the default launcher from the /system/app folder and when I power my device on I get a constant stream of force closes. It can't be used, all I can access is the settings menu.
I'm trying to push a launcher across into the system/app folder - it's rooted, and ADB is working.
Now here's the trouble.
I start CMD from platform-tools folder > adb devices > my device is listed.
adb shell > adb devices > no longer listed.
Any commands I enter in the shell, I "su" and its granted permissions, then adb push 1.apk /system/app > error: device not found. If I try the same without adb shell, then it's permission denied.
I'm pretty desperate to get this working, but any ideas please? I've contacted Sony, I hope that they will repair this, at a cost or not.
Thanks.
When you are in the shell, you don't need to type "adb" anymore, maybe that's it. "push" must be used with adb though, but not in adb shell.
For the permission problem, is /system/ mounted writeable? You could try running this line (not in shell):
Code:
adb shell mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
This should mount /system/ writeable. Then, try again with adb push. This might differ from device to device though, I don't know if it will work for you.
Other than that, I recommend you pose your question again in the subforum specific to your Android device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1294
Thanks for the response.
I've just run that, and got mount: operation not permitted.
Ok, try it again as follows:
Code:
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
Ok, when I run that it works, but as soon as I push, I get device not found?
Anymore suggestions please?
what exactly do you type in when you push? Do you push after entering "adb shell"?
I've made some progress!
I've mounted the /data partition with busybox and now have GoLauncherX.apk in there. But I'm still getting all of the force closes and I pressing the home button, I can't get to the home, it's almost likes it's not installed....
I'll keep trying but it could be something else at fault.
You might need to reflash the ROM. To find out how that is done, check the subforum appropriate to your device.
If you deleted the stock launcher from the system partition, I would suggest you try to get it back there first.

permission denied - trying to push apk to /system/app

I know there are a ton of these topics here, Still having problems.
I'm trying to push a apk to /system/app
First I used adb shell and used su to remount /system/app
example:
Code:
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p9 /system
I did this part successfully.
Here is my proof:
/dev/block/mmcblk0p9 /system ext4 rw,relatime,barrier=1,data=ordered 0 0
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
The problem is I don't know how to push a *.apk thur a "adb shell". If I try, I get "push not found"
They only way I know how to push is using a regular linux terminal.
example:
Code:
linux_user:$ adb push /path/to/apk /system/app
however this only works on my Evo 4G (custom rom). On my Samsung Epic 4G (stock rom) I get a permission denied.
I tried adding a su like:
Code:
linux_user:$ adb [color=red]su[/color] push /path/to/apk /system/app
however, that does not seem to be a valid command.
I think I know what my problem is but I don't know how to solve it.
I think the problem is the default user is not #. For example in "adb shell" the default user is
$
and after su
it becomes
#
how do I fix this without switching to custom rom?
I hope I explained this in a way someone can understand.
Searched all over these forums and could not find a solution.
As a work around I installed an Android Terminal Emulator
then from the Android Emulator,
su
cd /sdcard
install name.apk /system/app
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Best work around I could think of. Did I use the correct syntax? the emulator did not have adb or push.
Use Root Explorer
Try To put Your APK in system/app
change ro to rw
Then set the permission as same as other app in the system
then reboot...
I hope it will help your problem....

bump need help urgent
your touch is not inverted, your screen is inverted!
if the screen is inverted only on the OS (Lineage):
* enter recovery -> adb reboot recovery
* mount system -> adb shell twrp mount system
* remount system as rw -> adb shell mount -o rw,remount /system
* pull /system/build.prop -> adb pull /system/build.prop
* search for ro.sf.hwrotation
* change the value by 180 (eg. 0 to 180; 90 to 270, 180 to 0, 270 to 90)
* save and push it back to /system/build.prop -> adb pull build.prop /system/build.prop
* make sure the permissions are right (0644) -> adb shell chmod 0644 /system/build.prop
* reboot -> adb reboot
if the screen is also inverted on the recovery mode, you have to search for the build.prop of the recovery and edit that in a similar fashion

Doing that (ro.sf.hwrotation 180) only makes my screen upside down, as i said the screen orientation is fine however the touch is reversed.
