Enable dual core all time... - HTC EVO 3D

Hey is there a current method to keeping both CPUs on all the time...I know freeza had some method that's is somewhat outdated (I can't get it to work) but I could've sworn there was a zip you could flash to "turn on" the second CPU...any ideas?
Sent from my MIUI'd 3VO (Finally switched)

This should do it. It will enable dual core all the time. Just note your battery will probably die quicker.
Flash the attached file in recovery. It uses init.d so be sure your rom supports it, most do.

much appreciated...thank you

Get yourself CleanROM DE 2.0P1 and then go to the dev forum and read. You will learn how to flash yourself to using both cores all the time without killing your battery and a fast and smooth phone!

Is the difference that noticeable?

Well 2 cores running all the time... Do the math and you'll see that your phone will not last as long as before.

Not near my phone right now, but doesn't System Tuner allow this? I think there is a setting to force both cores online?

Awesome Freeza. Will this also work with MIUI? I'm about to try it with CM7. I'm pretty new to non-Sense roms, so I'm not sure which roms are AOSP other than CM7.
Im using on cm7 with no probs yet. Been running both at 1.8 for several hrs and no reboots, freezing or any other issues. Loving it

Hey Freeza, is this a kernel or a mod?
Also how do you control the frequency of the second core?
Thanks for all your work man.
Do you seriously see any difference with the second core turned on?
I don't think I notice anything except more instances or hitching and lagging. Run a quadrant with and without dual core enabled cause mine don't change field the better typically.

You have to edit a certain file through root explorer to change 2nd core speed. I dont recall the name of the file but there is a thread in the mods and themes section by freeza about this

You'd need to edit /system/etc/init.d/10dualcore (since this is for AOSP and to take effect every boot), or /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cpufreq/scaling_freq_max for it to take effect manually.

I see a significant increase in system/app responsiveness and all lag (aside from apps that just can't help but lag, and not processor related) is virtually non-existent. I'm also using this on the stock kernel, so I'm not overclocked and it is working out fantastically. Around 5 days uptime right now and counting.

MIUI already should use both cores I think? Mine seems to at least. Maybe it depends on the kernel you use. I like Chad's AnthraX kernels

I might be wrong here, but I think any ROM released for a dual core device is already going to be utilizing both cores.
you can download system tuner and go into the tweaks section. hit the cpu tab, and make sure a bunch is running in the background. then rapidly slide the notification bar up and down really fast. you should see a second cpu bar come up.

OK so you can try this although I can't guarantee that it will work or that MIUI even has a inti.d folder. I'm assuming it does.
1. download attached file
2. rename attached file to "10dualcore" (remove the .txt)
3. copy the file to your phones /system/ect/inti.d folder
4.) reboot
5.) check with system panel (free) see if dual cores in working.
Thats it, see it really wasn't that hard. If it doesn't work then I don't know what to tell ya.
Thanks, it worked

The New Kernel

Just dropping a line mentioning it; the new kernel has the same battery life in my use. It does make things even a little bit more smoother and runs a touch cooler over the older ICS kernel, as the cpu is always scaling back and forth constantly.
Really REALLY need kernel source.....
My phone is also running cooler with the new kernel. I am also getting a stronger wi-fi signal with the new RUU.
I installed Micro CPU Monitor to see what the processor is doing. I'm stock on the latest leak with no problems. It does seem to bounce around a bit, but at least it isn't all or nothing. I also noticed when doing nothing it kinda stabilizes at a low value.

Don't use SetCPU to monitor it's speed, use a tool that only monitors the speed that can't change it. With SetCPU, you see the perflock kicking in and changing the minimum value.
I do agree, once we have source we can get some kernels out with perflock disabled and have better control over them.

I am finding this latest leak is more stable and the phone is running much cooler. I have no facts to base this statement on, other than how the phone is running when I'm using it. There are definitely less hiccups and my data connection appears much more solid.
I agree. Better life and cooler. But it does seem a little more laggy sometimes

Yup. I took the zip from Nilsp's thread and flashed it. It rebooted to bootloader to allowed a PH98IMG flash. Unsure what effects it would have with doing a "fastboot flash boot" command.

Duo core mod

I hope I'm not repeating a post, and if I am please be kind enough to direct me as I have trouble searching on tapatalk. I'm a bit confused on this whole duo core thing. When we're stock, are both cores being used? If not how does the above work? I don't need a super detailed technical explanation. I'm just wondering exactly what this mod does. I flashed it once out of curiousity over the slim Rom and I didn't really notice any difference. Now although this is probably not a valid test, I also noticed when using fpse (psx emulator--awesome btw), after playing a few minutes, I get an error message stating "please enable 'force monocore mode.'" This was AFTER flashing the duo core mod.
Thanks guys!

[Mod] Thermaconfig changes for Better Performance

Hi All,
There are modifications for the thermald.conf, which controls your CPU and GPU after a certain temperature.
I've modified the file to fit different profiles that'll work for people. So without further ado, here are the profiles.
Remember to backup before flashing, and not responsible for bricks and blah and blah. However, if something goes wrong, you're more the welcome to message me for help.
Stock
This is the stock file with no change.
Stock Therma
Optimized Stock
This is a slightly optimized stock that deals with the overheating and throttles the CPU and GPU properly.
Optimized Stock
Gaming
This prioritizes the GPU for gaming over any other feature
Gaming Therma
Gaming (Plus Battery Saver)
This prioritizes gaming; however, also throttles your CPU to help save battery.
Gaming Therma + Battery Saver
Better CPU
This is probably the best battery saver; however, it drastically throttles the GPU.
Better CPU
Full Power
Ignores any throttling rules, but battery drain will happen. And phone will overheat quicker. However, you'll experience the fastest speeds.
Full Power
Best Battery and Overheating
This sacrifices performance to optimize battery and subdue the heating issues.
Best Battery
will wait for braver souls then myself before trying. But awesome work man! Does this work on both ICS and JB?
Cant even try this "Server Offline. Please hang tight while we get this resolved." Once its fixed I'll try some of them out

it's just goo.im doing site maintenance. It looks like it's a ll back up.
I also tried it. And it's been working great. I haven't had any over heating issues. I don't know how well it works with the conversion; however, the nexus has the same configuration that can be modified.

Yeh they should go to system/etc if u are correct about them Goin to app instead then they won't do anything. I think he just took the zip from someone and tossed the files in there. Also if you are running JB don't flash this the file name is wrong it has to be
thermald-8064.conf so you guys should wait for him to fix it and personally I would wait on flashing this unless he tested it first.

not even close, all it does it either slows/lowers down or doesnt do anything to CPU/GPU or screen brightness depending on the temperature of CPU/GPU. Basically its system underclock depending on temperature.
This shouldn't really be under Dev... It is something that has been known about for quite a while and even has a tutorial posted under the App section for a while now. It was never released like this because it can very well allow the phone to fry itself.
Disclaimer (I have been using an edited thermald with all governors disabled for a couple months no with no issues.)

I think there's a slight misconception on folder structure. I could have named it whatever, but the updater script pushes it to the correct folder.
I have tested, and it works wonderfully. However, the risks are always present if you choose to set the temp tires higher or remove the throttling.
