[Q] Phone Freezes on Touch-Screen Firmware Update!!! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I punched in this code: *#*#2663#*#* to update the firmware for my touch-screen and touch-key.
When I hit "Touch Key FW update" it updated really fast and everything was great!
When I hit "TSO FW update" is said "Now Updating... Warning! Do not turn off!" And it STAYED THERE FROZEN...
It said "Do not turn off!" So I left it until the battery died!
Then I plugged it in to charge it, and now the back button and menu button BOTH don't work at all! I tried two more times to "TSP FW Update" but it's totally permenantly frozen!
I tried flashing the stock firmware!
I can't get to the menu to do "factory reset!"
What do I do??

Have you tried using a USB jig and reloading firmware using Odin?

I have completely reloaded the firmware twice since then from a stock rom. I used Odin for it. My operating system works fine, generally, but the menu and back keys will not work.
But, are you saying that I can use Odin to specifically reload the TSP firmware? Because I haven't done that. If that's what you're saying, do you know where I can get TSP firmware?

Never heard of that and you dont need a uSB jig anyway as you are loading firmware ok .
I would download correct stock firmware .
Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .Or need to return to service or decide if its hardware/firmware problem .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .
Still problems use usb jig to set rom counter to zero if rooted or custom roms used ..
Return to service centre .

Hi,
So this issue has been fixed??

Hi all. Well... It happened to me too. I followed an advice to remove 4.3 lag by updating this, and lost all touch.
The screen won't even turn on now, but I know the phone is powered up because when I plug in a usb cable I get the windows popup.
Wow this sucks so much and I'd like to ask for any advice if there's a fix for this. I'll try to check if I can enter recovery and reflash the rom, but I think all my buttons are dead.
---------- Post added at 06:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:59 PM ----------
Update: after maybe an hour it came back to life. I had good battery so I guess it was downloading/updating stuff, during which I had no control of the phone.
As far as the experience enjoyment, I give it a 2/10, would not do again.

So it was in that "Now Updating... Warning! Do not turn off!" mode for a hour and after that all was normal again? Is the wakeup problem solved with that?

Hi there pattmayne and particularly anyone still getting mileage from their GT-I9000M,
I had this issue with Galaxy S Vibrant (North America) - GT-I9000M (the M is significant). I thought I would explore the *#2663# option and hey, why not update everything while I am there. I lost the use of my Menu and Back soft buttons and no amount of flashing or factory resetting seemed to help.
I found a promising solution on an obscure board (to me : forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2181386) as follows :
- Run the TSP FW update,
- Although it may appear to be stuck, wait a good number of minutes to be sure it has done what it needs to do,
- Interrupt the « update » specifically by removing the battery,
- [wait a few seconds for memory to discharge],
- Insert the battery, start up again, and run the other update, TS FW,
- Voila !
In order to access the special code, I had to flash back to stock and for some reason, I decided to flash back to Froyo instead of Gingerbread. The result being that from 2.2-Froyo, the TSP FW update actually worked, so I did not have to bother with pulling the battery. I am very happy to have my phone back in one piece !
I much prefer Heimdall over Odin, however I did have to do some research to find a decent Heimdall tutorial.
You should be able to find the stock files for Froyo by searching for GT_I9000M_UGJK3_UGJK3_BMCJK3.
If you can't, ping me and I will get around to providing a full write-up on how to mod your GT-I9000M (with many thanks to those that have gone before me).

Hi, i have more or less the same problem with my Galaxy S4 GT I9505. After updating to lollipop (5.0.1) the back and menu buttons were not working anymore so i started searching for some solutions, and i saw the updating touchscreen firmware option and now the fit touch is not working anymore as the buttons. I read that making that i could have fried the LCD Touchscreen. I dont hope so, the LCD is new, I've re-flashed to 5.0.1 as a reinstall. And theres no solution. I need help, i cant afford another 65€ in other LCD

There is a 26 page long thread over on the S4 forum about exactly this problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3250132
It is doubtful that anybody on the S2 forum will be able to help you as anything that works for the S2 probably won't work on the S4......
Sorry fella, your best bet is to post in the thread I linked you to.....
Good luck.

Stock Galaxy S II (No root) stuck in flight mode

I got my Galaxy S II about 3 days ago and love it. Apart from some annoyances (I'm looking at you Touchwiz) no problems... installed Launcherpro and here we go
Today I woke up and bam. Flight mode.
Factory reset
Wipe USB storage and SD card
Wipe cache from recovery (stock recovery)
No change.
So now I have a very fancy Samsung Galaxy II Player. I called tech support and they asked me to try another sim (which I had done) then told me to clear the cache (which I had done) blah blah... then they ended up telling me to send it back to Amazon as faulty.
Great, just great.
Anyone else had this problem?
Nope, haven't had this.

I'm wondering... if I flashed an update.zip from stock recovery if the issue might go away... it's clearly software.
Just need to find an update.zip file....
Also something quirky is happening with regards to lock screens. Had unlock pattern enabled and then switched off however it still remains on but only needs a press on the screen to unlock.
Personally wouldn't try flashing if it's being funky. Last thing you want is to get stuck with non standard firmware if you still need to return it.

I have the same problem with the phone that I bought today (a problem I noticed after 15 minutes of purchase). Tomorrow I bring it to a Samsung service center to confirm it as DOA so I can do the replacement for the operator ... I am disappointed that I was wasting my time on these things ...
p.s after I try code *2767*3855# a have no problems for last hour...
today i have problems again and I replace my galaxy...I hav new one without any problems...
I have a somewhat similar problem.
My Galaxy S II randomly goes into flight mode every now and then. It's not a permanent thing like what you guys experience, but it is an annoyance.
Couple that with the "wifi sharing" bug and I think we can say that Samsung has some faulty radio firmware in the Galaxy S II.
flash the generic xeu of ke7 from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
this was tried but didn't work. Even a new radio package was flashed . Didn't help.
SGS2 running India distribution 2.3.3, unlocked. Not rooted. Stuck in flight mode, becacuse IMEI # cannot be read. Help !
could it be efs partition corruption?
It probably is /efs corruption. How do I recover it ?
Posting on behalf of my brother..
He to has this problem. Nothing we do fix's this resetting to factory defaults changing sim card formatting memory card..
Since it's done this.. it uses the battery from a full charge to near empty within ~5 hours
Bought 29th Aug 2011
They wont honor the warranty even though it broke down at only 2 months old.

Have you gone through Samsung directly? (Register on their website and request a repair).
I had this problem just now. Couldn't get it out of flight mode. Saying no sim etc...
The way I fixed it was to remove the sim and battery, replace them, turn the phone back on, the hold the power button to bring up the power options and press turn off flight mode. It now works again.
Not good that after I googled this problem it seems to be quite common.

I have this issue too, bloody annoying. I did a kernal update and I hope that fixes it. But will give your method ago.
My post is here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21557309#post21557309
I had an interesting problem. My phone sometime stuck on flight mode. I had to restart device 4-5 times to disable flight mode(flight mode menu becomes transparent or untouchable). After a while button becomes enable and phone starts normally. But it's annoying problem.
Now I'm using Lite'ning Rom v1.1 XXLPH. Even in stock LPH,LPB, KK5 2.3.6.... every firmware I had same problems occasionally.
What's the problem? There is nothing wrong with IMEI (but I can't see IMEI in flight mode).
go in it recovery and clear data and then go to fix permissions

So is there a simple solution for this anoying problem, or it cames back every time ?
With Android 4.0 or 4.1 is the same?
I need to know as I am thinking of buying one that as this problem, at a good price.
Should i buy it?
thanks

Any layman ideas?

[Q] HOW to Update or reflash Galaxy s2 Bootloader

i have a problem with my galaxy s2 exactly like this: got a wierd problem. My galaxy S2 refuses to shut down.
When I shut the phone down without a USB cable connected then the phone turns black and the 'menu and 'return' button lights up then the phone vibrates. at this stage before the buttons turns black and the phone was totally shut down. now instead the buttons are still lit after the vibration and then the phone starts up again.
With a USB plugged in after the vibration when shutting down I get to the screen where the battery indicating charging is shown, but as soon i remove the USB cable the phone starts.
The power button is not stuck.
It's not rooted: cleared the cache in 3e recovery. No change.
I fully charged my battery. No change
I drained my battery to 0%. No change
I tried another battery. No change.
Well i thing i should Re-flash a Bootloder or install another one, is there any idea how to do that throw ODIN1.85 Please please please help me im just

English is my 3rd Langue so Please try to explane with a Simply English Brothers and sister. I feel sucks No one can fix my Problem here in Kosovo.
If you are going to flash New firmware via Odin from intratech you will automatically get the right (older) bootloader that lets you clear the flash counter with the jig.
If you have already flashed KI3 or KI8 from somewhere else chances are you will have the new bootloader flashed on your phone.
If that is the case intratech has the older bootloader that you can download and flash via Odin without having to flash the full firmware again.
Read the 1st few posts in his thread carefully for the exact steps to follow.
Good luck.

Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant T959 totally bricked.

Please Help me out.
I was using CynogenMod7 ROM. Could not write on my external SD card or mount it .
So decided to go back to Stock froyo firmware.
Tried ODIN to flash to my stock froyo firmware.
Had done it many many many a times earlier with success.
But ODIN could'nt complete the process, it kept on getting struck at Kernel and Factory some times.
Later thought there might be something wrong with bootloader.
Downloaded stock froyo bootloader.
Tried to ODIN the bootloader and got Struck at SBL many times ,Kept on trying then got struck at PARAM.
Removed the battery.
From than on NO Response what so ever combination buttons used.
No battery indicators,No light on Home keys, No signs of any power. Nothing Visible on screen & keys.
Tried usb JIG - no response.
Tried Ultimate UnBrick Resurrector-No response.
No lights .
Please solve my problem.
This may not work because I discovered this by accident. I bricked my phone so bad it looked like it wouldn't even turn on too. So, hopefully this works. Make sure you have your samsung drivers installed. Open Odin and connect the USB to the computer but not to the phone. Do a battery pull and do the three button boot, simultaneously connecting the USB to the phone. Most likely, nothing will happen. Hopefully, the phone will connect to Odin. Then, click start. That's right. Don't put any pit or tar files in, just click start. Hopefully, your phone will reboot to the vibrant screen and is stuck there. If it does, now you can reboot to download mode and Odin whatever files you wanted. If it doesn't work, just keep messing with the three button boot. I apologize for wasted time if it doesn't work. These steps are what I personally did on my phone. Hopefully, it works for you.
Sorry to say but I believe you have hard bricked your phone. If installing bootloaders goes wrong then your phone can turn into a paper weight. You could maybe try a jtag repair but I'm not sure it would help. You could call samsung and ask for a replacement, tell them you updated with kies or something but that's not exactly the truth

OK first, the stock images are 2.1 eclair not 2.2 froyo. Are you sure you have the right files? Are you sure your phone is a t959(3g, no front camera)and not t959v(4g, has front camera). Second, it sounds like a hard brick, if all else fails go to www.mobiletechvideos.com and check out the unbrickable mod and JTAG repair.
If you get your phone in DL mode and you have the correct Odin images, check the repartition box as well as others and run it.
Good luck

Remove battery and sim and microsd. Leave out and press and hold power for 30 seconds or so. Leave battery out for a few minutes.
Put battery in and if you are on GB bootloader hold volume up and plug in USB. Might get you to download mode.
I did that with a friends phone about a year ago and got lucky. Odin recognized it. I read that somewhere here on XDA. May be a shot in the dark... but when you get desperate any new ideas to try can be a relief right?
Good luck to you.

I called Samsung and told them that I was just trying to upgrade to 2.2 with their software and they replaced my PCB (printed circuit board) for no cost (including shipping). I have no idea if they tried to figure out if I had really used Kies (if they could even figure it out with the state my phone was in) or if they just replaced the PCB blindly. Worth a shot, I'd say!
Thanks for your concern.

When you pulled the battery, after it hung up with Odin, you corrupted the primary Bootloader, because it wasn't completely written in......Last weak possible option is to try every rocker/battery/cable sequence ETC, to get Odin to handshake with the phone!!.....If there's still no sign of life after doing that....Your only option will be to have it JTAG,d in order to rewrite the primary bootloader file back in it.....it'll never power on unless the primary bootloader executes properly!!....you can corrupt the 2ndary BL and the phone will only be soft bricked, but a primary BL corruption is phone DEATH!!....Only place I know of that's reliable is: mobiletechvideos.com....send it to them, they'll rewrite the primary BL back in it and I think 2.1 or 2.2 for you and mail the phone back to you!!....Good luck let us know if you got it powered on with any combination, as that could save another Bricker from having to send it out!!

[Q] Bricked I9100 - seeking expert help

Hi Guys,
I would like to pick your brain as I have run out of options here.
My I9100T stopped worked funny way.
Phone - Samsung Galaxy S2
Model - I9100T
Sammobile official unbranded Australian ROM (XSA) for I9100:
PDA: I9100XWLSH
CSC: I9100XSALSA
MODEM: I9100XXLS9
Version: Android 4.1.2
Added: 2013-02-25
Rooted - SiyahKernel S2-v6.0beta5
1. I haven't been using this spare phone for over 1 year. I have decided to I can use it for my other simcard. Phone turned on and worked perfectly. Until I have decided that I have lot of junk in it and I want to wipe it quickly with factory reset not from CWM but from the phone menu. What happened is that phone started wiping some of the files and then screen stayed black - turned off (no vibration). Since then I wasn't able to turn on the phone as but I could charge my phone. By confidence I have found out when battery is out at least 30-60 min and when I put it back I could turn the phone on. However I wasn't able to pass "Samsung I9100" logo as logo will disappear and phone will just have black screen - switch off without vibration. I left it couple of time for half day just in case but with no result. I guess this is not eMMC brick as I had 4.1.2 ROM.
I am able to access download mode same as recovery mode. I have tried flashing brand new stock ROM from Sammobile as Kies come up with some error that my device is not supported. No luck with stock.
2. Then I have tried to restore I9100T in error with my I9505 backup in CWM. I know silly. But what can you do with human error. Restore failed and situation is pretty much same. Only difference is that I can't charge the phone now.
I have tried following things which I was able to google:
- tried different battery
- flash stock ROM from Sammobile (there is some incompatible error with I9100T model in Kies so I have downloadedd ROM from Sammobile)
- flash CM10
- wipe all Dalvik cache, cache, data, system ...
- used nuke scripts to wipe everything on the phone
- through CWM created 2nd ROM and flashed stock ROM
- swapped 2nd ROM with 1st one
- tied latest stock ROM 4.1.2 but tried old stock 4.0.3 and 4.0.4
- flashed new bootloader for I9100
- used .bin files to repartition the phone
I have no luck as phone is booting up to the recovery mode. Then when I have restarted it I can't turn on the phone unless battery will be removed for approximately 1 hour.
Second variant is that I can see android logo and bar underneath so I can see that phone is initialising new ROM but after few second phone goes off to black screen (I have tried to leave it couple of times for half day). Same thing if I will try to turn on the phone I will need to remove battery for approximately 1 hour.
I am running out of options here and I am pretty much ready to try crazy stuff in order to restore the phone. Could you please share your expertise or your opinions as I am not sure if it is soft brick or hardware might be affected as well. But I still have hope hehe.
Please share your screenshots here from other smartphone for better understanding. So,
1. You are rooted right?
2. You restored factory settings from your S2 settings knowing that you are rooted, right?
3. You can access download & recovery mode?
4. Can you charge your S2? Does it show charging while dead?
Have you ever trim your device?

1. No, now it's pure stock ROM.
2. If you mean if I have reset to the factory settings knowing that phone is rooted then answer is yes.
3. Yes, I can access both.
4. Yes and no. I will explain below.
Yesterday I was able to turn on the phone and it started 4.0.4 without any problem. I have done nothing with the phone since my last post. Phone works fine except reboot, charging, power functions.
- If I try to reboot the phone, 2 soft buttons (menu and back) at the bottom of the phone will light up and nothing will happen with phone. I have try to leave it for hours.
- Power off works fine.
- When I powered device off or I have try to reboot it I am unable to start it again straigh away. Battery needs to be removed for about 1 hour and then phone will start.
- Charging works but again if battery is removed for 1 hour and placed back. If I power off the device and try to charge it dosn't work.
- I have try to upgrade the official ROM 4.0.4 to 4.1.2 over OTA and KIES but it failed because after reboot screen is black and soft buttons are ligh up.
Do you have any suggestions?
Access download mode and flash a stock ROM for your S2. Find it on sammobile.com. During Download Mode, connect cable and flash it through Odin.

Thank you for suggestion but I am not really sure what do you mean by Trim the device. I have done some googling but I haven't got far. Could you please explain bit more or share some link.

What version of android did you use before brick?
Is it stock or aosp?
Trim is a command that delete or just trim (I dont really know one or both) your unused space. But this command is harmful for some emmc (sgs2, note1 and some more)
I am asking this for superbrick bug on official 4.0.4 kernel.
4.0.4 official kernel factory reset is a superbrick bug.
Sorry for bad english not a native speaker

Galaxy Tab S6 SM-T865N using Odin To flash other country firmware on it

Hello,
I've purchased a Galaxy Tab S6 (SM-T865N) International version, mainly to use it with with 4G in US on Xfinity Mobile. I received the tablet, inserted the SIM card and it was working 'relatively' on the network. Every now & then I would get a message 'failed to register to network', but for the most part, mobile data is working.
Since it is a Korea version, certain things don't work. Nothing major, but I would like to make it perfect. Certain User update posts in the Galaxy store display in Korean Language, and the weather app is slightly limited, with the error 'not available outside of Korea'.
I did some searching and found other firmware available for this exact model on Sammobile. My country (US) is not supported, but I would like to try the UK firmware, if nothing else, to fix some of the language issues. I downloaded the UK firmware package and Odin (3.13 & 3.14.1). I installed the Samsung drivers. I booted the tablet into recovery by holding 'power & volume up' then connected it to the computer. Odin WILL NOT found the tablet. I rebooted into the normal OS and connected it and Odin then found it, but obviously that doesn't work. I can not get Odin to connect while in recovery.
Does anyone have suggestions on what might be happening?
And maybe all this effort isn't worth it either, hard telling whether it'll work better or worse with the UK firmware on it. Any tips?
It's been several years since I did this sort of thing, so I'm a little rusty. I thought this would be a simple procedure.
it sounds to me like you are not putting it into download / Odin mode, but I could be wrong. I haven't tried to use Odin on this tablet yet, but was actually about to do this same thing as well, as my device has an origin CSC of singapore, and hasn't had an official update in almost 2 months, so I was going to flash the UK version as well.

So I just tested it on my tablet, here is what you need to do:
Power off the device
Press and hold the Volume up button and then press and hold the power button
When you see the initial boot screen, release the power button, but keep holding volume button
When you get to the recovery screen, you need to use the volume up / down buttons to highlight the option that has "bootloader" in the title, and press the power button to select it.
Then you should see a screen that says "Download" or something like that.
Plug in USB, and Odin should see the device.
Yeah, you're booting into recovery, you need to boot into Download mode - Hold both volume up and down whilst inserting the USB-C cable to enter Download mode.
Your correct

Your Correct. Device needs to be plugged into the pc for it to boot to the screen that shows all the info. I wonder why they made this a requirement. Its very unintuitive. I also didn't see it documented anywhere. How did you find out about this ? Thanks again for the help!

You wouldn't happen to have that firmwire file handy / a way to share it online would you? Sammobile's free download server is down right now, and I was going to try to flash it this weekend.

Besides i have another issue with my speakers as they are not working for some reason? I tried reset both soft and hard without luck. It always get stuck on rebooting many times but after many times i got it to reboot BUT i can only have sound from bluetooth headphones!!

Did you able to flash that firmware on your tablet?
IF you mean did I succeed in flashing it through Odin then yes BUT unfortunately I couldn't get it to reboot correctly & it takes a lot of time trying to reboot but still no luck. So, I took it to a repair shop & they told me it needs new motherboard !! How can this be even possible IF I still can get it to connect to Odin and download the firmware successfully BUT no luck in getting it to reboot correctly!!

Have you tried reflashing the old firmware of your country? Weird that its not working.
I did try that and managed to flash it successfully to the old firmware using Odin but unfortunately I still couldn't get it past a full reboot as it got stuck after a long time and it takes me to the Android System Recovery screen wherein also tried to 'wipe cache partition.’ and try reboot again but I still end up with the recovery screen!

Can't you put in a warranty claim ? Here where i am based i had a new battery, and new screen installed from samsung! this was a Galaxy S8+ was well over 2 years old they did it for free! New screen and new battery! My Note 9 is going this monday for a new battery my Tab S6 works flawlessly so don't need to send that in! but i'm sure if you ring up Samsung they will replace the motherboard for free as it's not even 12 months old!
