JKay theme for KJ1 Galaxy S2? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I have a SGS2 running rooted 2.3.5 Android firmware with a KJ1 kernel and want to run JKay's theme but it says the new version only works with a deodexed KJ1 kernel and I think mine is odexed since its just rooted, not a custom ROM?
Any idea how to do this? Or is there a way to de-odex my phone???
Cheers

Why did you make a new thread, when you can post in/read the JKay mod thread?
[Theme/Mod/Apk] XWKL1/KK5 - JKay Deluxe v13.4.1 - How the SGS2 should be! 2012-01-02
All the information you need about supported ROMs is listed in the second post. As you have found out, KJ1 odexed is not supported. To use the mod, you would need to switch to a ROM which is supported.

Sorry mate, I'm new to all this Android stuff and haven't quite got it all figured out yet! So the only way to get my KJ1 device "deodexed" is to flash a custom ROM?
What ROM should I flash, and will this change anything else on my phone?
Thanks

anyone?

It needs a deodex rom, the kernel is something else.
Flashing a new rom will change your OS, I suggest you read this thread and this thread so you know what you are getting yourself into.

Or you could deodex the firmware yourself.
Haven't got the link but a search for "deodex on Windows" should turn up the thread.
Edit: here it is.

Thanks so much. The guide to deodexing it myself looks slightly complicated. I think I might just install the Insanity ROM and then install the Jkay theme - this will work, no?
Cheers!!

Or you read a bit in the first 2 posts of the Jkay topic and come to the conclusion that it is also available for odexed roms, like the standard stock from Samsung.

there's only a download link for the KL1 odexed ROM ??

I'm running rooted XWKL1 (which is odexed) + Jkay, which, according to the second post, also works for KJ1. It's all there.

It works for KL1 odex, but only for KJ1 deodexed according to the 2nd post?

You're right, good spot.

[Q] With regards to the broodcomb thread...

First of all, this is the thread I'm referring to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233328
Am posting here because I don't have enough posts to reply to the thread. Really doesn't make sense that the forum requires 10 posts before I can reply there.
I'm really confused with all the links on the OP. The instructions aren't clear enough for a noob like me. Would appreciate any help here.
Basically I want the fastest/smoothest experience, so no TW for sure, and OC if possible. Am not really sure what deodex does for me so not sure if I need deodex or broodcomb...
So correct me if I'm wrong here.. Never done this before so I'm just picturing it in my head(getting my tab tomorrow so just wanna make sure I get things right) this is how I should do it..
1. I will need to download this and install through odin no matter what... Hmm what does CSC: CPW and XEU mean anyway?
Stock Rom [ODIN] special for XDA Members only ( CSC: CPW and XEU )
2. This is where I get lost. Do I choose between these 3? If yes, what's the differences between them? And where's broodcomb?
CWM KH7ROOT
Stock Deodexed Rom special for XDA Members only
CWM Rom by mabalito
3. Install the non tw update/ themes/etc..
4. where in all these do I fit in the installing of pershoot's kernel? Can OC be done only with pershoot kernel? Does 3G work with pershoot's kernel?
I appreciate any help you can give me. perhaps someone can do me a favour and post this up in the thread so that others can answer it.
Thanks
Ryan
any kind soul out there? I just need someone to help me copy paste my post over to the thread so that others can answer it.
I'm running the stock KH7 rom and it's much better then the KG9 that i had before.
As far as i know, there is no rom for p7500 that doesn't have Touchwiz. In that thread there is just a theme that looks like vanilla Honeycomb, so it doesn't give any performance boost.
Besically you need to install the stock KH7 first (using odin) and then install custom recovery if you want to root or use other modifications posted there.

I've got my tab now and have been messing with it for awhile without much success. I tried this...
1. reboot into cwm recovery
2. install deodexed stock rom via cwm
3. install cwm non-tw (from the thread)
and that resulted in a reboot-loop. So I can't go straight to cwm and have to install stock using ODIN first? okay help me out here a little, I'm still not sure what or where ODIN is...
okay I managed to get it to work after many tries. I used odin(which i think i didn't need to).. then installed the deodexed stock rom, pershoot's kernel, and non-tw..
Like i already said, first you need to install stock KH7 using odin.
Glad you got it working.

Would i be asking too much if i asked for an odexed version as well?

It's for Arabic, Hebrew and Farsi users.
I tried to flash the deodexed version on my THRITY TWO GIGABYTE VERSION of the GT-I9100 running 2.3.3, I9100XXKG1, 2.6.35.7 I9100ZSKG2-CL361136, GINGERBREAD.ZSKG2 which I bought in Taiwan from a Taiwanese carrier, so it's NOT THE CHINESE version with it's unique characteristics (sorry to holler). I rooted it last night with Chainfire's method and simply replaced the kernel KG2 kernel with his and got CWM running and did a backup.
Tonight, I won't use the "n" word, but I tried to flash this as my first ROM from your rather thin directions. I put your ROM as a .zip in my /USB storage folder, booted into CWM recovery and flashed it using CWM. I did not wipe or erase anything as I haven't gotten around to upgrading my Titanium backup to pro and doing a super thorough backup yet (paid market not working here in Taiwan). All seemed to go well. When I rebooted it took a long time. Once booted it kept telling me phone.android.com was "force close". In "about" it showed 2.3.4, and all the following 3 categories to be KI4.
I rebooted into CWM and restored my original setup (shouted above) with no problem.
1 Could there be an issue because I have a 32GB model and the partition table isn't "normal"?
2 Do I need to flash a modem or something else, so that is why the radio was force close?
3 Should I have wiped anything? Non-Wipe to me meant, don't wipe anything since this was seemingly near "stock".
4 Am I stupid?
5 All/combo of the above.
I realised I didn't say thanks to Wanam....Thanks
My money's on the non-wipe thing. The android version you had previously is way too old compared to this one, totally different base (well not totally, but still).
So yea, i'd suggest a wipe.
BTW I purchased Titanium backup before paid market came to Greece. There's a paypal purchase option, google it.
I'm currently on KF1, can i just flash this with no wipe ? And can I just reload my old CSC ?

[FIX]Remove Home button delay *Perception Edition*

Hello XDA since I'm not able to post in dev section ill post it here..I was frustrated that after flashing Perception v1-RC1 the dreaded home button lag came back and Yoderk's Fix in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295754 will make your phone crash nonstop so I modified my android.policy.jar and made a CWM zip to get rid of it.
Tested with Perception v1. Might work with odexed stock roms. Use at your own risk.
Credits to Oliwe for his guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227479 and to Yoderk for pushing me into figuring out myself.
Let me know how it goes!.
Tested for a full day and no issues so far.
Nice! Threw up the link in my thread so people can find it a little easier. You may want to post it in the Dev section.
as soon as they let me post there hehe. thanks.

Don't know what it means, but its a good thing. I think its usually "de-odexed", though. I'm sure its explained somewhere, I know its in one of the stickies in the Captivate forums.

To be honest I highly doubt this will work on stock roms as they are a KH7 i777 base where as perception is based on KI3 which is for the i9100 (International GS2).
Odexed Roms
Did anyone find out if this is working on stock rooted ODEXED (not de-odexed) roms? Im waiting for CM7 to finish cooking and am staying ODEXED w/root for a while, but that lag is killlling me. Anyone? Anybody?
There's no way it'll work on odexed UCKH7 ROMs, and it will likely not work on deodexed UCKH7 ROMs either.
HOWEVER: Those who have Hellraised XXKI3 ROMs may have success with this mod.
Or try installing one of the JKay Deluxe V12 themes on Perception if it's XXKI3-based.

Normally on the first page of a rom thread you will get a description what is the rom. For example MIUI is well MIUI. Hyperdroid is sammy deodex rom with of course modifications and tweaks in the build to make it better than stock.
Sensation rom is sammy deodex no aosp nothing like that. And when you normally look for an AOSP rom it normally would say it in the heading of the thread anyway.
On the kernel thread it has a guide of what roms the kernel works on and which ones it does not. Siyah works basically with any rom. CM7 to AOSP to sammy deodex. Regarding Simone's kernel which is the NEAK version or something like that it is based on only sammy stock deodex roms and that is mainly the ones in original development and android..just look out for deodex, sammy and stock rom
AS above its all a question of reading the info on the first page of the kernel post .
Plus if it does not work flash another one .
the Neak kernel should be ok been on mine for a few days .
Speedmod likewise ok have used it before .
jje
Thanks everyone for their wonderful help!
I have got one last question
Speedmod kernel says "it is only for Samsung Gingerbread ROMs. It will not work with CyanogenMod or MIUI ROMS!"
does this means it will not work with sensation rom?
Edit: ok looks like the different versions are just the updated ones
But still the question is if it supports sensation rom?

With all of this information, you should be able to deduce that the Speedmod kernel WILL work with your ROM. If you still don't understand, I'm going to suggest you don't flash anything to your phone, for fear of ending up with a paperweight.

[Q] New to GSII - Differences of rom version and fast how-to!

Hi everyone! I've had for an year an amazing Nexus S (aw.. so google..) and now I'm a very happy owner of a GSII (so freakin' fast!). I thouhgt to keep the telephone with the original rom waiting for ICS but... when I saw the so HEAVY personalization by samsung! Sigh... it's so Gingerbread! it even seems ICS!
Now the question.. I've seen so many acronyms near the roms. What they stand for? I mean like XXLPQ, LPQ, LPE, XXLPH or stuff like that.
And what if I would put on a rom that is PURE GOOGLE? I saw the WanamLite, is it stable/fast/daily-use? Do you suggest this or other roms?
How to install cooked roms? With the NS you have to unlock the bootloader, install the cwm and you're done. Do you have to unlock the bl with the GSII? Can I install the cwm with rom manager and then I'm done?
THANKS A LOT!

galaxy phones can be tricky if you came from a nexus. Basically you have to read the FAQs, but in terms of flashing stuff the biggest difference is that the recovery and kernel are linked. You can't flash a separate recovery, and that's why you can't use clockworkmod.
There is no bootloader unlock thingy also. But you'll need Odin instead.
Keeps these points on mind and then read the FAQs again. And good luck!

Check out galaxys2root.com. It has detailed video tutorials on everything you need.
I bought my GS2 only 5 days ago and already went through installing Resurection remix 9.4, 9.6 and 9.7 and loving it
I've just installed the Omega V5.0 ICS ROM and its awesome, and is based off the XXLPQ firmware
Method,
I started from a 2.3.5 firmware, rooted it using a cf-root-sgs2_xx_oxa_ki3-v4.1-cwm4.zip and odin.
I copied the Omega zip rom to my sd card, rebooted into clock work recovery (the chainfire kernel installed clockwork automatically)
Followed the instructions for doing the thee wipes on the Omega home page.
and did the install from the sd card.
Hope that helps some...
Obivously every custom rom has its own instructions.
