Home key responsiveness - HTC Rezound

Hi, I'm considering trading my razr for a rezound (mainly due to form factor).
One issue that I've noticed on all of the display models I've tried is that the home key doesn't always recognize my touch. Sometimes it would take quite a few tries before it would vibrate and do anything... maybe holding it longer or pressing down helped, but I suspect I was imagining that part. The other soft keys seemed fine.
Does anybody know what I'm talking about? Is this a known issue? Is there just a trick to it? I didn't see it mentioned here previously, but I've experienced this at at least 3 different stores, so it's not just one bad device. Concerns me as this is quite a frequently necessary function. When you're demoing a phone and can't get it to go to the damn home screen, it's hard to convince yourself to commit to that phone for the next two years...

uh, i've never had a problem with responsiveness on these capacative buttons lol

Neither have I.

Same here. Response is great. I dint use the home key much but when I do its on point.

Mine always works fine.

I've never had a problem either. Those demo phones get beat up sometimes, so I wouldn't go by that.

Touchscreen sensitivity app

I had a galaxy's, and recently I bought a Atrix.
I noticed that Atrix has a touch screen less sensitive than galaxy.
I've downloaded from the market "sgs touchscreen booster", this is an app to manage the touchscreen galaxy.
I tried it on 'Atrix and it works fine for me.
Now I am satisfied with the touchscreen.
If anyone has the same problem, I advise him to try.
Sorry for my bad English
I can not tell if it is even working.

you are awesome!
I had the touchscreen bug where my screen would go unresponsive, was going to bring it in today (concerned about my device having the france rom on it.) and this app got it working again perfectly!
will be sure to buy you a beer on payday if this holds up.
just installed.. seems to be much more responsive to me.. have it set to "optimized". will try them all out..thx!

Same. I still, along with (I think) everyone, have the issue with multi-touch when you hold fingers down for a certain number of seconds and the screen equalizes it, forcing you to wait a few seconds and try it again. This really annoys me on games like Jet Car Stunts, when, for example, I hold the accelerate button but eventually I have to let go and press it again to keep the car accelerating.
yeah that apparently is a feature and done by design from what I read. the problem i had was worse in the sent that imagine the screen going nuts after 5 seconds of activity.
Is there any way to increase the multitouch number. This app says it can but it doesn't work I know this is for the galaxy but is there any other way?

I was getting so annoyed of this phone because when i tried to typed i couldnt type one work without making a huge mistake because the screen wasnt picking up everything i guess. if i typed hey fast it would just type "hy" or something. but when i did this and put the sensitivity up to 80% and left the rest on default it fixed it. now i can type fast without any mistakes and it seems as it fixed multitouch problems as well! This app is definitely recommended.
I've always thought the Atrix screen could do with a higher sensitivity, after using the iphone. It might be all in the mind, but this app does seem to help. It is particularly noticeable when typing, I no longer have any missed letters where I haven't pressed hard enough.
Thanks for sharing this app

Power botton

My power button is acting like its being pushed 2x every time i hit it. I turn my screen on and it turns it off. Is this a known issue? Lets hope not a hardware failure because of 1.5.

This happens to me as well. I don't think it's software, as it happens in recovery as well. I've accidentally formatted as a result.
Same. Not the format but came close to flashing a mod ghastly isn't supported by the phone. ****ty button design if you ask me. Volume rocker is a ***** to use. And the power is too sensitive and finicky
Hi all,
I have the same issue also. Anybody already resolved this issue? Thnx!
the og evo's power button and rockers were perfect. Pretty amazing that they made both worse for the 3d. That power button sometimes makes me want to switch phones. Awful. How that made it out of testing I have no idea.
Seems to have been a software problem. I get this problem only on certain tons.

Search Button Half Lit On Boot Up

Discaimer: I'm apologizing in advance of this seems like a stupid question or post.
I noticed that my search button partly illuminates when I first turn on my phone if it's completely off. Once the phone is fully booted and my home screen comes on all of the other buttons light up properly as well as the search button.
It just seems a little odd, but isn't causing any problems. Anyone else have this? I'm just hoping it's not a sign of potential hardware problems. (Yes I have insurance but enjoy full root with hboot 1.4)

Mine too. I was always kinda curious about whether it was common or not, but it never really bothered me too much
Yes, its normal. They should have got that fixed before finalizing this model.
Via My HTC Evo 3D On The Now Network From Sprint.
Mine is the same way as well. It's a light leakage. If I use one of the kernels with dim LEDs, my buttons look like ass because of this. Most people can lower their value to 2 (in ..../button-backlight/currents), while I can only lower mine to 14 before it starts looking dumb.
Mine is most prominent when in recovery. Only time I notice it.

I've noticed this too. It does make the phone look like crap when the LEDs are off.
It's light "bleed" from the screen to the search button. it most visible in recovery, probably because your screen is completely white and it's easy to see the white light bleed.
Kinda sad that HTC didn't fix this issue before releasing the phone.. Cheap internal build quality, perhaps?
I think it may be due to the fact that they used some sort of clear plastic to put together the inside. If you open the batterycover you can see what I'm talking about.

I got it too and my phone is a recently assembled device on one of the latest h boot builds. Doubt this will be fixed so i guess we live with it...
Same with me I thought only i have that issue.
Seems like HTC did a bad job in this area. I also have hardware build 0002 so I guess it's an issue with that build.

[Q] I'm irked by this, and don't understand it.... (screen responsiveness and heat)

So, most of us have had our OGs go a little crazy responsiveness wise while plugged in and I've figured out that it's from the heat from our phones... Whyyyyy in the heck does the heat from the battery cause random presses on my phone? That's so dumb.... But, I know it's the source now because now that i've dropped my phone and have to get it replaced it has been getting super hot, and the spots where it gets hot will actually press buttons on its own. It's pretty weird because i can't use those parts of the screen anymore, it just won't respond to touch anymore but when the phone starts getting warm it'll do all sorts of stuff on it's own. Do you think it has to do with LG's "zero-gap" screen?
Yes.
The screen is super sensitive. It may be the biggest issue sadly.

Unfortunately, today, after no heating issues, my phone has developed a thin horizontal strip of screen that does not respond to touch. The issue seems to have materialized out of nowhere. No drops, no heat.
The strip is about an inch up from the bottom of the phone.
Luckily, the strip is thin and does not adversely affect my user experience enough to be a hindrance. Although, the fact in itself is bothersome. Hopefully, this will not spread out more throughout the rest of the phone.
FWIW, the strip is right across the Google search widget.

That sounds like the issue I have although mine only occurs on the home screen. I can't press any of the bottom icons unless I move higher. It works fine everywhere else.

This phone definitely has some quirks to it, but it really is the best phone i've ever had. It's the smoothest and fastest i've ever had, if it does start to bother you or gets worse, i'd take it to AT&T and just get a new one, not like you did something to make it happen so why not take a replacement?

I'm not with AT&T so I got my phone on ebay. I've read that LG will fix it with a proof of purchase, though. Gotta search the threads and possibly contact LG. As of right now it's not a major problem.

My issue isn't affected by charging, though. I'm charging now and no issues other than that one strip. And that is there regardless if it's plugged in or not. That's also the only area affected. No lag, stutter, slowness.

Yeah, that is a common issue with all Android devices. I've read that it is a voltage issue with the USB cable, charger or outlet. If it's happening, try a different cable or outlet. That usually solves my issue. I had the same issue on my SGS3, my old HTC Inspire, and my wife's Pantech Burst... But it was by far the worst on my Motorola Photon. Random touches would happen while the phone was plugged in and it became unusable while charging.

My OG doesn't get hot at all, at least it hasn't happened yet. But I do get occasional scrolling issue, it would go from scrolling the entire page buttery smooth to crawling 2-3 lines at a time, and instead of scrolling the page, it'd open the app where my finger started to scroll. Turn the screen on/off usually fix the problem, but it gets annoying after awhile. I thought it was quick memo causing it, that was the first time I noticed it but then it started to happen randomly when the phone is on charge, I don't think I've seen it happen on battery though. So maybe it is related to charge/voltage issue.

Mine by no means got hot, until it was broken, but it did get a little warm just like any handheld device does after some use. Seriously though, if Sprint did get an update to fix it, then i think AT&T needs to step their game up..

[Q] Trouble with the home button?

Picked my One up today to replace my freshly broken Nexus 4. So far so good, but this home "button" registers about one out of five presses. Anyone else seeing this behavior? The back button works fine every time.

The sensitivity is a bit low for it to register perfectly. Happens on mine.

I have no screen protector and my home button doesn't register often either. Also when trying to touch places in the standard browser it doesn't register immediately. Starting to think there's a defect in screen or software.

I'm having the sane issues it does it with the back button as well. Did it before I put the screen protector on it. It doesn't help that they sit so close to the screen. When I start tapping frantically trying to make it work I end up pressing whatever is right above it on the screen. Thinking about returning it to try another but if it's a common problem I don't want to waste my time. It's not too bad usually at least one of the two buttons will register if the other one won't

I had the same issue on my device. It took three swaps to figure out it wasn't the phone but, the Zagg HD screen protector I had on it. Once I took it off, everything started behaving as intended,
I noticed last night that my Zagg screen protector still had some water bubbles (very tiny ones) near the home button. So today after another night the bubbles are gone and the home button works well enough I can assign a double tap short cut.
Never had any issues with the back button, just for reference.

I'm almost 100% sure it has to do with the screen protector.
I was using an Otterbox Defender case which has the screen protector with the soft keys uncovered. I was using the phone without a hitch. But this morning I decided to use a different screen protector other than the one provided by Otterbox and that screen protector covers the soft keys.
Now I'm having issues with the sensitivity of the soft keys.
Somehow covering the soft keys with the screen protector affects the sensitivity level of the soft keys. I'm thinking of uncovering the soft keys just to finally confirmed that, that is the problem.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Same problem on Sprint variant. I went to the store and the display model also had same problem. Neither had a screen protector.
This is either a widespread hardware defect or a widespread software problem.
Some have said the latest update to the Taiwan variant fixed it.
RE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245637
I have had the issue as well and I believe it's software, rather than hardware. If my back button freezes and I turn the screen off and then back on, it works fine. It only seems to do it when I "overload" the back button in an app that needs it a lot, like this one.
