[Q] Android & Ethernet / USB 3.0 / eSATA. Is it possible? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What I ask myself is weakly present.
Interested in whether it is possible to have a android device (for example for SoC Nvidia Tegra 3 (a forthcoming) or the Samsung Exynos 4210) which will operate the hardware decoding, gigabit ethernet, USB 3.0 (or at least 2.0), eSATA and output image and sound HDMI, and if you play in a certain application on the device will contain the content source encoded in DTS, DTS-HD, DD, DD TrueHD sound, in the same encrypted transfer it to a device on the other side of HDMI cable (passthrough)?
Device about which I'm not there, it is conditional, in fact the question is whether it is possible to create such a device. While on the Internet seen such devices. Among them, of course, none of them had all of the above, but there was some support for Ethernet, USB, HDMI, but how it works there I do not know.
There are currently about USB and Ethernet I imagine this case was this: on-board controllers are soldered above-mentioned interfaces, after which the linux drivers for these controllers is compiling android .. right?
P.S. sorry for my and google translate english =)

[Q] USB Video Capture via USB OTG

Does anyone know how I can use a standard USB video capture device (such as Hauppauge USB-Live2) on an Android device (e.g. Motorola Xoom) via the OTG connection?
Why? Reverse camera for a car, game console input etc...the uses are endless.
Do you think its something feasable or should I get a dedicated monitor for tne job?

Micro usb audio connector

Is it possible to use the micro USB audio connector for audio? After rooting, the audio application of the android does not recognize the mp3 files to play. Why not let it do so?
I think that would require USB host mode like on the Samsung galaxy. I think that means needing extra hardware doesn't it? -otherwise I would expect every phone to be capable of it
edit: It is possible but you can fry stuff. Info on NookColor forum
USB host = great possible enhancement?
I wanted to post to proper thread, however I am new here I was not allowed to post on developers forum. So I hope that this post will still somehow find its way there. It also includes your original question.
Since some USB features are now claimed to be working, I wanted to ask directly poping out questions:

Is it possible to...
1.) disable on-screen keyboard while using USB one?
2.) connect USB soundcard like: http://www.usbgear.com/computer_cable_details.cfm?sku=USBG-X2X&cats=121&catid=121%2C136%2C134
To allow listening mp3, Skype calls.... ?
3.) connect USB Ethernet card like: http://www.usbgear.com/205528.html
4.) to connect other cool usb stuff like: GSM, printers ... whatever
thanks you developer guys, I hope I'll once manage some time to learn more about the system and developement so that I could contribute too !

Currently the answer to all of the above is no
The USB host mode patch was done for a specific project (USB keyboard support) and while I have been spending some time playing around with Bluetooth I'm not aware of any other dev(s) working on expanding this atm.
Stuff like audio, networking and Bluetooth requires _a_lot_ more than just the kernel accepting to communicate with the device.
thats shame. allowed skype calls would be great
Skype calls are working on my nook with OTG + USB audio card on usb host mode. But it is a bit difficult ))).
To update these older posts:
Yes, it is possible to disable the soft keyboard when using a USB keyboard.
See NullKbd in the signature.
Yes, Skype works fine.

Where is the difficulty?
Do a logcat and look for overruns and errors.
There were a few mods done to make Skype work.
so an external usb sound card is working?
Yes, an external USB audio adapter can work.
As a portable solution it's a bit cumbersome.
I don't know what current they usually draw, but my cheapy one draws 75 mA.
A desktop solution with powered hub (charging the Nook), a USB adapter and speakers works fine.
Would USB headphones work directly on that port? I have USB OTG cable and some USB sound card somewhere so I can check with regular 3.5mm jack headphones without trouble when I find some time to do it but I just wonder if anyone tried USB headphones on it and what they think of it. Is it worth of a hassle to buy one for NST?
Some USB devices use a multiplexor on the USB micro connector and can send actual analog audio down the connector.
Many Androids support USB host mode and can support an audio USB adapter, including the ones that go for < $10.
The NST (earlier Nooks with OMAP processors) don't have complete software support for USB host mode but can be coerced into working.
The Glows (later Nooks with IMX processor) don't have complete software or hardware support for USB host mode but can be coerced into working.
The Glow4 (7.8") has audio.

Gtablet as a carpc?

Hey guys, I've been toying with the possibility of using the gtablet as a car pc. There are a few points to consider in my research.
- HDMI format can handle 8 channels of uncompressed audio. Can the gtablet output 8 channels of audio and have the power to handle processing (EQ, crossover, crossover slopes, time alignment, etc?)
- We would need to find a way to convert the hdmi cable to an analog rca cable. There are several devices that can do it, but none that I can see that can convert more than just 2 channels.
- Can the gtablet hand more than one bluetooth connection? I would like to connect a gps and an obdII device.
- There is a frontend on the android market called andcar, and it looks like it could be usable on the gtablet.
- Another option is to use a usb to rca dac, unfortunately all the ones on the market do not have android drivers to support it.
I would stay away from using the built-in jack on the gtab because, frankly, the audio quality from the jack is just not that good.
Any tips/ideas/suggestions?

[Q] USB Infrared support in Android

There may be device or rom specific answers to this question, but I wanted to know if there was support for USB infrared receivers built into stock Android, possibly at Kernel level?
The context is that I have a USB IR receiver that I've used in Windows for XBMC that I've tried connecting to two of my Android devices (Galaxy Nexus and Nexus Q) via a USB OTG cable and pointing my remote at it doesn't seem to automatically work like a Bluetooth remote does, but it could be that it's receiving the IR commands and I need an android app to convert the IR signals into something Android understands.
Anyone have any information about this?

I'd like to put my money down BUT!
I'd be very interested in one of these devices BUT they must be able to playback all 4K HDR streaming services which are supported on a Nvidia Shield plus the 4K HDR content available on YouTube (Shield doesn't have required codec).
It's simply a shame that the copyright policy (not Android TV certified) and or codec licensing costs are stopping the recent Android devices from showing off their full potential.
I'd even buy a Xiaomi Mi S with its locked bootloader (side loading is allowed) but reviews indicate the dated hardware is poor (hit/miss) at 4K HDR @60Hz playback. I'll just have to stick with my Roku Ultra ($69 CDN) which has no issues with 4K HDR content from any streaming service.
Even the overpriced Nvidia Sheild (2019) tube can at the time of release only support 4K @30fps with it's AI up-scaling tech. A feature that may have justified it's cost compared to these various Chinese streaming boxes.
I'm sure the dam is going to burst soon and Nvidia will pay dearly with lost sales. It's fairly obvious that the hardware is available now. I'm ready to spend money but I need a compelling argument with something substantially better than my Roku Ultra. Note that I'm not a gamer but primarily a 4K HDR home theater user of streaming services.
This box has no GMS license, so security problems do not let streaming apps provide 4k content for these devices, but there a lot of other functions this box can do much better than others on the market. Hope developers will see this and will be able to solve this problem with major streaming apps, but the price will be higher for sure.

New Firmware for Ugoos AM6, X2 and X3 Models
Most significant update, which is important for users - Brand New Ugoos Remote app!
This service consists of two apps: one is server on your Ugoos device and the second for your Android TV.
In order to activate it, you should proceed: Settings -> X2/X3/Ugoos Settings -> Wireless assistant -> Ugoos Remote. Btw if you prefer our classic Fireasy it is available.
After reboot, Ugoos Remote App will be active and appears in app list, if you open it, you will see status info:
For Remote app you can scan QR code up here on the screenshot or proceed here: https://ugoos.com/public/remote/
Then you need to follow several steps to connect both devices. First, you need to choose what kind of connection you prefer: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Depends on your choice you need to pair your devices in few easy steps.
After choosing connection type, you will need to find device in a list and connect it.
App connection window and final adjusted app looks like this:

Usb 3.0 port is fake
Very surprised nobody tried USB 3.0 port (marked as OTG): IT DOES NOT WORK.
I explain: if you plug usb 3.0 pendrive when device is running, maybe you will have success… but external 2,5" HDD/SDD won't work. I say more: try to switch off the device, then plug your working-before pendrive and then switch on… IT WON'T BE RECOGNIZED. You will need to unplug and plug again.
Checking internet, this USB port seems to be made to plug temporary and low-power pendrives for debugging or firmware flashing. It is not a daily working USB 3.0 port. So be careful by choosing this device if you need USB 3.0 connection.
BTW, it is not a settings failure: Customer service will give you instructions about how to set them (choosing "host mode" in USB settings) but it seems to be hardware limitation (I guess something related with no power feed on port).
Great device, but with a great mistake too.

Your HDD consuming too much voltage, this USB port is not designed to spin all hard drives, just add additional power and it will be fine. host mode in USB settings is for USB 2.0 which is can be used for debugging and reflashing, not USB 3.0

That's not right. I mean, in same device USB 2.0 has enough power to run these 2.5" HDD/SDD. USB 3.0 should have, at least, same power or even more to accomplish standards.. And USB mode in quick settings (not full settings) is to manage USB 3.0 mode, not USB 2.0 ports. You can read a clear CAS about that: https://medium.com/@prat.saengchan/ugoos-am6-android-tv-box-47f3b933209e
Designers made usb 3.0 port as OTG/Debug/Flashing target, not for customer use. So it has heavy issues with external hard disks as well as they will work without any problem on USB 2.0 ports.
So, again, I aware about it if you intend to buy it.

So again, if your HDD consume too much power you need to use an extra adapter for it. I have used both 2.5 external HDD and 3.5 box external HDD and it works fine for me. But for 3.5 HDD I use extra usb power adapter (like 2 USB from TV Box side and one USB from HDD side).
Your HDD may have some individual incompatibility with those USB 3.0 port, in this way can be the problem

So again, I tell you than same HDD/SDD 2.5"-no-extra-power-requirements (I have many of them) didn't work on USB 3.0/OTG port, but works well on USB 2.0 ports. So, power needs are discarded, because *again* all devices work well on USB 2.0 ports of SAME Ugoos device. Maybe is an issue of my unit, but comments before I posted a discussion with "Nancy" (Ugoos support chat) where they described than OTG port is only for maintenance, not common use. So, that's my post conclusions: USB 3.0 may not work with plugged devices.

As far as I know, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 hangs on two different lines (power lines and signal lines)
I don't know why this lady said OTG port is only maintenance because there is a switcher settings (Host - OTG) where you can choose how you gonna use it. However, I think you would prefer a much faster USB 3.0 rather than USB 2.0 obviously.
Experience of using this devices shows that different HDD works different, but I found out that cheaper external cases sometimes make HDD "ticking" but on my laptop is working well. So I found out that using extra power cable may help with this. ( so such HDDs both work with laptop and TV Box) Also better external HDD cases helps with that kind of problems in TV Boxes (better power consumption).

Finally found the bug: You did the point on this last explanation and it was an unlucky combination of hard disk (Toshiba 1TB 2,5") and external case (Ugreen 3.0 Type-C plug). Tested both of them with different pairs worked well, but that combination failed.
On my tests I never plugged off changing devices and that's another effect: it remains some kind of unstable state that makes failed tests with other hard drives and pendrives, even if you reboot or shutdown (blue led). Now I have learned that when this device has drive failure you must shutdown and switch off power some seconds to flush electrical charge after plugging other devices. If not, you may have false fails.
This is a great TV box with great hardware, but I think it lacks with USB power. And another big fail: 32-bit Android? Seriously!?
Anyway, thanks a lot for your comments. It helped me for finding the problem and learning about this device. I hope XDA developers community take a look at this device and try to expand all of its potential. I know there are some custom ROMs over there, but they are mods of official one and based on 32 bit architecture. I dream with a pure-64bit ROM that puts this device in another level.
(Btw last update includes Magisk and other user desired improvements. That's a great step for something more and demonstrates Ugoos don't forget to make updates.)

Hello,
perhaps a little outdated: I got a UGOOS AM6XX box that runs CoreElec. I understand it should be able to boot into Android 9 as well by choice but I can't see a boot menu, however.
I could use a little how-to. Seems there is nothing such from the manufacturer :-(
Could anybody give me a hint please?
Best regards,
Phil

Switch back to Android system you also can from power menu in main dialog window in CoreElec system. You need to choose “reboot from eMMC/NAND” function.
