I am trying to go back to stock on my S2, I have reverted back to a nand backup. I want to check for an update through KIES but it says Your devise does not support software upgrading via Kies. See attachment. I believe it could be my baseband that it doesn't recognise. I have got the firmware from sammobile but it is all one big tar file called I9100XWKE1_I9100NEKD5_I9100H3GKD4_HOME.TAR . How can I put this on through ODIN? As it isn't separate. I maybe being plain stupid but I am really confused. Any help would be great.
Thanks
just place it in the PDA part of Odin.

your obviously confused ... you can't use the search button
Come on that was a bit harsh. As I did use that but all I got back was rubbish.....
Forget it anyway managed to use Check Fus and used in the PDA. Thanks mattyh77
Kies still says the same thing though bizzarely...
No probs. Be sure to use the thanks button.
Kies doesn't recognise because its not an official operator ROM, I think. That's my experience anyway.
Cheers

I reponded harshly because the question had been asked about 2 hours before yours in the same forum!!
Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies - typed in search and a fair few thread came up....
install a official Samsung firmware and then it will work but the official Samsung firmware which i have installed was on 2.3.3 and then used kies to update it to 2.3.4
Thank You
Seriously, I would forget Kies. Kies is a steaming pile of poo. You are stuck at the mercy of Samsung's servers being updated to say when your particular phone is flagged for an upgrade, and even then, they won't necessarily update you to the latest available version of Android that they have released for all GT-I9100's.
Look at Intratech's Official i9100 Firmwares thread. Instructions are in post #1, official firmwares (from Samsung themselves) are in post #2, "frankenstein" firmwares are in post #3. Read all of post #1 as many times as it takes to understand.
Till now.. (i´m using galaxy equipment for 2 years) and god... kies is the worst thing that Samsung came with..
To do all the things just use Odin, or use the CWM...
For me, honestly.. keys is not an option :O

I got fed up waiting for the latest update on my O2 S2 so thought i'd try the 2.3.4 update. I didn't at this time realise it was an XEU firmware.
Using Odin was straight forward and I completed the flash and started using the phone. I got some unexpected lag and thought i'd revert back to the original firmware but it is this that is causing me a problem.
I attempted the reflash with the O2 firmware (KE7),
I now get the O2 bubbles on start up (which was replaced but a fragmentated S on 2.3.4, official samsung I believe) and in phone settings its says 2.3.3 however when I connect to Kies it says the CSC is XEU and not 02.
I tried the '272' imei trick but only get 1 option XEU.
Can anybody please help me revert my phone back to original???
Here's hoping somebody can help..
Branded rom /provider rom post or how to debrand O2 phone posts from Dev section .
Essentially flash the O2 firmware through Odin

Thanks for the reply. I 'think' i have solved it now. I had flashed it with Odin but only once i had cleared the partition cache did Kies show the right firmware.
It does mean i have lost all of my apps so now am looking at a good backup app.
Any suggestions for a non rooted phone?

You can't backup apps unless your rooted as these live on the root of your phone.
You can root and keep the phone stock and not flash any custom roms.
Im on o2 uk. Had the xeukd1 csc before i switched.
If any of my friends asked me i would tell them to root and install a custom rom and kernel.
The themes and tweaks available are great. The biggest thing for me is the battery life. I now get only 1% battery drain overnight (7 hours) someone else on the same rom and kernel went over 6 days without charge.
Never would have got this before.

Many thanks for the reply.
It certainly sounds very interesting. I am new to rooting only having learnt about the basics of it over the past couple of days.
I presume therefore that should the need ever arise restoring the phone to its original firmware spec (as at time of purchase, and should warranty work be required) is possible?
I think I need to go and read some more on rooting.

Go to intratech's thread in original android development find out what firmware modem and csc you're using download and keep in a safe place. This is then your return to factory settings if you have a warranty issue.
If you need any help pm me as I won't always be popping in to this thread.

Many thanks for the help thus far.
I'm sure i'll be in touch to quiz you about a few things via PM.
Thanks again.
Before I continue I just want to say that I have looked around, used the search button, but haven't found anything that will solve my problem.
So I was fairly unpleased with the custom rom I had flashed on my Sgs2 and wanted to flash my stock firmware (2.3.3 XWKE2) and so I went into the official thread for firmwares.
At first I tried out a 2.3.4 stock firmware, but kies would'nt let me update so then I continued looking and found a stock firmware that matched the one my phone originally had (android version 2.3.3 XWKE7)
I checked the codes and downloaded the NEE one since I live in Sweden. Flashed it with no problems but then when I went on Kies to try and update again I got "Your unit doesn't support updates through Kies"
It then also said: I9100XWKE2/1910OXXKE2/I9100XXKDJ/I9100XWKE2 (KOR)
Why did it say KOR? I thought I had downloaded the Swedish/Nordic firmware?
Can someone help me flash the real original firmware for my phone so I can update through Kies?
And your posting this in the dev forum because...?

Well, KE2 clearly isn't KE7, so it's doubtful that you flashed your original firmware.
This is stock Nordic KE2, taken from this thread.
If all you want is stock firmware, install this then connect to Kies and it should update to the latest Nordic firmware. Then back it up!! I'm in Norway, can't remember what is the most recent version, been on custom ROMs for a long, long time... Lykke til.
What custom ROM did you try, and why didn't you like it?

But my phone originally had the KE2 on it when I bought it. Couldn't wait for the Swedish release for KE7 and began flashing custom firmwares.
That is the exact link that I downloaded, from that exact forum. That's why I find it weird that Kies doesn't recognize it.
The custom ROM I tried was a leaked version of 2.3.5 from Frankenstein. I was about to download and flash another ROM but every time I asked for someone's suggestion they would always say the taste differs from person to person. I then responded that I just want a high performance and quick ROM, and never got an answer so that is why I wanted to flash to an original Firmware from Kies.
You ask 10 people which rom they consider good and you will get 10 answers, some of the most popular being:
Hyperdroid (personal fav): great base, great kernel, OTA app for mods/updates
Villanrom: Older base, very stable, some limitation of available mods due to the older base
Checkrom: Never been my cup of tea but people seem to like it, it has the kitchen app for mods
That is the exact link that I downloaded, from that exact forum. That's why I find it weird that Kies doesn't recognize it.
Flashing firmware means somewhere you changed codes and KIES dies not recognize .
A removal of KIES plus all registry entries may solve the issue .

Do you mean uninstalling it completely and re-installing it?
I'll try that and see if it works.
You need to have a "stock" combo of stock firmware, aka a modem, "PDA" (kernel+rom) and csc that where shipped together, otherwise KIES wont recognise it.
I tried uninstalling and re-installing it but it didn't work. Still get the "Your unit doesn't support programupdating through Kies" message.

Where can I find all that?
When I look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
All I can see is the one I used and that's just a PDA file
You require your saved original rom or one that nearly matches it .
From the branded /providers roms post .
Carrier branded .

Was it a file with one big .tar in it? if so thats everything.
Why do you want to update with KIES? Just use odin to flash a KIES release, there all in that thread, and its counterpart with the carrier branded firmwares.
Note, kies wont be able to updates "frankenstein" releases which are mix/match.

Yes it was a big .tar file!
I really don't know how to explain it. I love this phone, and want to get the most out of it (custom roms, overclock, root) but I'm not that good with all of these different concepts and there is always that fear of bricking the phone.
Also I go to college right now, and am a bit behind so I really don't have time to go through the xda forums on a daily/weekly basis, so I thought that when the new firmwares (mainly a official/perfected version of the ICS) updates are available I could just log on to Kies and update them while saving my self some time.

KIES is pretty crap and does this all the time, I have never had an update though KIES so im out of ideas
The one big tar file should have been right though, unless you picked a mix/match one.

Nope, did not pick a mix/matched one from what I know. I'm gonna try one of the firmwares from the previous link you sent me. If it doesn't work there then I'll just continue flashing through Odin.
Quick question though, it says:

Yes,no need to root
and remember one thing that don't tick re-partition in odin
One thing, when I debranded an Orange phone it wouldn't boot past the Samsung screen, Its better to power of then hold power, up and menu go into that menu and do a factory reset first.

Install updates via ODIN = YES
Via KIES who knows all depends upon the phones codes matching a firmware on the server .

The above post is the only mis-giving I have to flashing this phone.
After reading virtually all of Intratech massive thread on this I'm still the no wiser.
My basic question is the same as the one posted in this thread. If I have a UK branded phone and then flash it with "official" unbranded UK firmware will I be able to update it in the future over the air or with KES? There doesn't seem to be a black or white answer to that only a suck it and see one.
I guess I've been spoilt using Sony phones which were easy to update and got even easier when Wotan became free. You flashed them and there was never a problem updating with SEUS.

Thats the answer simply due to you changing the codes on the phone to something Kies may not recognize .
You can download your current firmware from the stock rom or branded rom posts or use CHECKFUS .
That would enable a flash back to original for a Kies update .
Not many join a developers forum to stick with official release. Its all a pain in the arse waiting for the phone provider to update and asking when its coming to my phone .

Either way even if I have a problem this forum seems to have an answer for virtually all of them.
That's a problem in itself as it becomes quite daunting if you look too hard.

Is it really necessary to form firmware by informing keies of handset stuff? Kies really does suck! Anyhow, OTA says there is an update for SGS 3....so me thinks - fire up kies on the laptop - plug in s3 and ill get the update.... boy was I wrong! Kies (latest version DL'd today) recognises my phone but is stumped whne it comes down to current firmware!
btw, im not running a custom ROM and IM not rooted.... any ideas why Kies cannot discover my firmware?
By the way - I also trolled my way through the best part of 200 posts regearding Kies to discover a solution... i dont have time to troll anymore.

Try a Kies or Samsung forum ..
But the usual is due to non matching firmware codes after flashing via Odin .
Possible due to rooting flashing anything that is not the Samsung update path .
Restore original saved firmware via Odin including CSC or join XDA Developers forum and flash a stock rom .

thanks... sorted... after about 40min after updating kies... it asked me to reboot...lol. Then it was job done - thanks for the responding

Trust me when I say this, do not under any circumstances root or flash custom firmwares unless you're 100% dissatisfied with what you're running now.
/100% dissatisfied flashaholic/rom slut/advisor.
If you have a serial number from another I9300 everything will be fine. Just be sure kies asks the serial number before connecting your device and it will download the original firmware. Took me an hour though.
Also reread the forum rules, this should be in Q&A.
Kind regards,
Thomas

Hi Thomas.
My kies downloaded the latest firmware when I had my S3 connected. But my S3 didn't reboot. I assumed the update is done.
But it's still in 4.1.1 version.
Now my kies is not showing me that update 4.1.2 available.
Can you please tell me how do I update now using kies.
Thanks

Hey guys ! Today I got my International GT-I9300 and I have android 4.1.2 on it. My question is that is there any newer version from Samsung since I don't want to void my warranty by flashing a custom rom. If there is one how do I update it and if isn't any new one are the dates know when Samsung will give them out ?

no, there isnt, sorry. If you wait a while they may release a 4.2 (or maybe 4.3) touchwiz rom, but for now you have 2 options, use that rom, or use a custom rom.
There is really nothing to worry about with flashing roms, just make sure you make a nandroid backup beforehand, the only way to truly brick your phone is to be extremely stupid and flash a rom or kernel meant for a different device.
If you need to bring your phone in, just restore the nandroid backup and reset the flash counter.
Hmm, that's some weird advise you've given there.
Anyway, 4.3 official Samsung rom has been out for a few days now -head over to general forum to read the stickies on how to use odin and the official firmware thread to download the file.
You can hard brick your phone simply by ticking the wrong box in odin, so be very careful and follow the instructions exactly.

really, samsung kies doesnt have it, well at least where i live.
well that is true that you can tick the wrong box and brick, but, like flashing the wrong file, you'd have to be stupid when all the tutorials say that it bricks your device.
Simply .4.3 is rolling out officially at some stage you will get the update via Kies or OTA .
At XDA we have a couple of 4.3 firmwares that can be flashed .
But that would require you to read the faqs and guides first .
Plus the updates really have to many problems to bother with wait for later versions .

Neat rom lite 4.3 is working very well for what I need, no bugs at all (apart from the wake delay, but it's always done that to some extent).
I agree with JJEgan 4.3 update is rolling out but it is.... well how can I put this nicely the "update is not what we expected" because you don't want to root and flash custom roms I suggest you wait and read up about the new "update" if that's what it isBut at the end of the day it is your device and if you do go down the custom rom route read read read!
I have the I9300XXEMG4. So can I use this guide to get to 4.3 ? BTW the guy at 9:32 the guy says that by flashing the firmware his counter didn't go up is that true ?

4.3 is due to roll out for the international s3 anytime now depending on your carrier, I wouldn't go through the trouble of flashing firmware if you dont know what you're doing , I am due 4.3 in a couple weeks according to three
